<ul><li>Using different time zones for northeastern states in India may improve their productivity. </li><li>Even though the sun rises and sets early in these states, they follow the <keyword id="1650458" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-standard-time">Indian Standard Time</keyword> (IST) that results in poor sleep. </li><li>The states suffer a loss of daylight. Moreover, the problem is during winters when the region has shorter days leading to more electricity consumption. </li></ul>India can increase the productivity of all the North-eastern states by having two different time zones, according to <a href="https://www.dropbox.com/s/5ojttz8d9leco4n/jagnani_jmp.pdf?dl=0">a recent scientific study. </a> The study authored by Maulik Jagnani, a researcher at Cornell University -- has <a href="https://www.bloombergquint.com/global-economics/single-time-zone-costs-india-rs-29000-crore-impairs-education-wages-study#gs.bMyZ0vYl">suggested</a> that using a different time zones for Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to set their clocks on an hour ahead of the Indian Standard time. According to Jagnani, a “back-of-the-envelope estimates” suggest that India incurs annual human capital costs of roughly $4.1 billion or 0.2 percent of nominal GDP [gross domestic product] due to the existing policy regulating <keyword id="70843" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="time-zone">time zone</keyword> boundaries. Currently, India follows a single time zone — The Indian Standard Time (IST) that is 5.30 hours ahead of the Coordinated Universal Time (UCT, 0.00). While India follows a single time zone across the country, the sun rises and sets early than rest of the country. This causes loss of several daylight hours. The problem is intensity in winters when the region has shorter days leading to more electricity consumption. Since the sun rises and sets at different hours in the country, students are likely to get poor sleep, affecting their primary school and middle school. Poor people are affected the most because of this primarily because they live in inadequate physical conditions and have very less to spend on commodities including beds and pillows that helps us to sleep better told Jagnani to <a href="https://www.google.co.in/amp/s/www.bbc.com/news/amp/world-asia-india-47168359">BBC</a>. How do time zone work? There are around 24 time zones across the globe separated by 15 degrees longitude to enable smooth functioning of railways and flight services. There are countries that have multiple time zones like the US, Australia, France and Russia. While some other countries like the US, Africa and North and South America uses Daylight Saving — setting clock forward by an hour in summer and back by an hour in winter to make better use of daylight. India is among those countries which neither uses multiple time zones nor uses daylight saving rather it has set out a single time zone across the country. India earlier had two different time zones that made it easier for the traders to efficiently use daylight. However, after independence, the Indian government decided to set one time zone — 5.5 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time, located near London. The centre’s scheme to make people pay taxes for their income under the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=street+food&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Income Declaration Scheme</a> (IDS) is coming up with great results. 
The roadside <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=street+food&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">street vendors </a>in Mumbai selling<a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=street+food&amp;sortorder=effectivedate"> vada pav</a> and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=street+food&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">chhole batore</a> have declared Rs 50 crores property and cash. 
 The eatery owners will have to pay tax of Rs 22.5 crore on this previously unaccounted income, people aware of the matter told the <keyword id="6474066" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="economic-times">Economic Times</keyword>. 
 The IT department on tip offs have conducted raids on 200 eateries including a well-known vada pav centre in Thane, a dosa centre in <keyword id="6354719" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ghatkopar">Ghatkopar</keyword>, a sandwich centre in Andheri and a jalebiwallah in south Mumbai. 
 
"The owner of a juice centre in Ghatkopar has declared about Rs 5 crore in cash and property under the IDS. Some other roadside eatery owners too declared Rs 25 lakh-Rs 2 crore, one of the persons, who did not wish to be identified told the ET. 
 About Rs 40,000 crore had been declared under the black money scheme by Thursday evening, the person said. Of this, about Rs 5,000 crore was declared in Mumbai, Thane and <keyword id="219220" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="New-Mumbai">New Mumbai</keyword>. 
 
"The income tax officials told us that we must declare our assets under IDS or they would come again and raid our shop. We had asked our tax advisor to help us with the problem, one of the the people who declared wealth under IDS told the ET. 
 
A lawyer said declaration of income under the scheme could lead to harassment, the government's assurances to the contrary notwithstanding. 
 "One of my clients wanted to declare about Rs 3.5 crore but I strongly advised against it, as it could lead to harassment in future. His son is about to get married, so I advised the client to hold a grand marriage in <keyword id="6372909" type="COUNTRY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Turkey">Turkey</keyword> or somewhere and blow away all the money instead, the lawyer, who did not wish to be named, told the financial daily.

Last year the war of the burger makers introduced the world to <keyword id="33542" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Burger-King">Burger King</keyword>’s Black Kuro Burger darkened with bamboo charcoal and McDonald's same version blackened with squid ink. Black buns, black cheese, black sauce, black pepper and black beef buns – the dark secret of finger licking burger was out on the table. 
 
However, the twist in the tale in India lied in the fact that this restaurant has used red, yellow and blue food colors in exact proprtions to make it look black. 
 Talking to <keyword id="105279" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-Times">The Times</keyword> of India, Bangalore-based brand expert Harish Bijoor said it's a ploy to break monotony. "You have yellow and purple tomato ketchups in the US. In Bangalore, there is a restaurant that sells golden dosa," he said.

Since the beginning of his career, Salim Khan had fixed 10% of Salman’s income to be spent for personal need. A part of the balance 90% was used for charity. Now that Salman has his own NGO, Being Human, the rest of his income is spent on the same.

While till date it was the state governments taking decision to ban the instant noodles, it is the first time when <keyword id="75190" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nestle">Nestle</keyword>, the makers of Maggi have officially decided to put their products off the shelves. Having created a lot of hullabaloo over usage of lead in the Maggi Masala above prescribed limit, Nestle’s decision to keep Maggi out of the market is being assumed as an emergency damage control measure. 
 
"The trust of our consumers and the safety of our products is our first priority," the group said in a press statement. 
 "Unfortunately, recent developments and unfounded concerns about the product have led to an <keyword id="6356826" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="environment">environment</keyword> of confusion for the consumer, to such an extent that we have decided to withdraw the product off the shelves, despite the product being safe." 
 
Putting Maggi off the market isn’t enough for Nestle. The Swiss company has asked the local executives in India not to talk publicly about developments. Sources have confirmed The Economic Times, They have been told not to engage directly with stakeholders, trade partners, dealers and distributors without approval. "Any engagement needs to be approved and vetted by the company's legal team only," said one of the officials mentioned above. <keyword id="6356830" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Nestle-India">Nestle India</keyword>'s contribution to the Swiss firm's global revenues is barely 1.8%. The Maggi brand contributes about a third of the Indian unit's annual sales of Rs 9,500 crore. "India is an emotional country... the reaction to this issue can't be clinical or detached, which is how it is coming across so far," <keyword id="5645" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="CEO">CEO</keyword> of a top multinational consumer goods firm told the ET. The financial daily couldn’t reach Nestle for immediate comment. 
 "This was the fastest growing segment for Nestle over the past few years and was reporting positive volume growth compared to the decline reported by the company's other business segments," Abneesh Roy, <keyword id="150418" type="POSITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="associate-director">associate director</keyword> at <keyword id="6375566" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Edelweiss-Securities">Edelweiss Securities</keyword> told the ET. "Hence, in the light of the recent news we downgrade the stock to 'reduce' from 'hold' and rate it sector 'sector underperformer'." 
 
Reviving the brand will involve investing heavily in communications. "Legal costs/promotions will also inch up, which will take a toll on margins," Roy added.
