Singhania said, "In April 2024, the Indian <keyword id="21572646" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="auto-retail-sector" source="keywords">Auto Retail sector</keyword> achieved a robust 27 per cent YoY growth. The two-wheeler (2W), three-wheeler (3W), passenger vehicle (PV), tractor (Trac) and commercial vehicle (CV) segments grew by 33 per cent, 9 per cent, 16 per cent, 1 per cent, and 2 per cent, respectively. While some attribute this growth to the shift in Navratri to April instead of March last year, the overall increase was significant. The commercial vehicle segment showed a modest 2 per cent YoY growth and a 0.6 per cent month-on-month (MoM) decline, indicating varied market conditions. Positive momentum was found in bulk and corporate deals, as well as school bus demand, although elections dampened sentiment, leading customers to delay expansion plans. Limited finance options and regional challenges, such as water scarcity, further impacted performance. Looking ahead to May 2024, several positive indicators are shaping the near-term outlook. Improved vehicle supply and strategic planning in the two-wheeler segment have led to rising customer bookings and better market sentiment. In the passenger vehicle segment, new model launches and favorable monsoon forecasts are expected to stimulate customer interest. Challenges remain, with election uncertainty affecting market sentiment and financial constraints posing growth hurdles. Extreme temperatures and overcapacity in the commercial vehicle segment could further slow growth. Despite these challenges, the auto industry remains cautiously optimistic, with market opportunities arising from rising customer interest in new models. Indian auto retail sector records 27% YoY growth in April: FADA

New Delhi, Jun 12 () With the protracted lockdown pushing the Indian economy into deep recession in the current fiscal, the escalating new COVID-19 cases after easing of restrictions poses further downside risks to the economic outlook, IHS Markit said on Friday. A national lockdown began on March 25 and has continued in various phases into the month of June, albeit with significant easing of restrictions since early May. "This protracted lockdown has resulted in the severe disruption of industrial production and consumer spending, with GDP growth forecast to contract sharply during Q2 2020 (April-June), pushing Indian GDP growth for the 2020-21 financial year into a deep recession," it said in a commentary on assessing the impact of COVID-19 on the Asia Pacific region. April Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) data, reflecting the full impact of the lockdown measures, indicated a collapse of business activity, with the Composite Output Index plummeting to 7.2 in the month - a record low in the 14.5-year survey history and one that was extreme overall. "While both manufacturing and service sectors were severely battered by the COVID-19 responses, the latter posted sharper reduction of business activity," it said. IHS said, unlike many other countries which have eased lockdown measures, India has faced continued escalation in the number of daily new COVID-19 cases. "Consequently, the future path of lockdown measures remains highly uncertain, particularly if new daily cases continue to escalate," it said. New COVID-19 cases are still escalating in India due to large populations and dense urban areas, as well as very weak healthcare systems, it said, adding that this poses further downside risks to the economic outlook. As a result of the lockdown measures, Indian industrial production was heavily disrupted during late March and during April, although a limited restart of certain industries has gradually occurred since April 22. In the auto sector, production largely shut down when the lockdown commenced in late March, with large automakers as well as two-wheeler makers having temporarily closed their plants for most of April before lockdown conditions started to be gradually eased. Firms manufacturing auto components also had shut down temporarily due to the lockdown. The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has estimated that the daily turnover lost for India's auto manufacturing sector for each day of closure amounts to around USD 300 million per day. "Consequently, the COVID-19 pandemic intensified the recessionary conditions in India's auto industry, which had already experienced severe conditions in 2019, with a 12.7 per cent year-on-year decline in passenger vehicle sales, while commercial vehicle sales were down 15 per cent," IHS said. The services sector has also been badly hit by the impact of lockdown measures on retail trade and the collapse of domestic travel and tourism. The May PMI data showed a further severe decline in services business activity despite easing from April's record contraction. New business plummeted further from April, reflecting the extent to which the COVID-19 restrictions had impacted the service sector. Escalating new COVID-19 cases pose further downside risk to economy: IHS

New Delhi, Jul 5 () Billionaire Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) plans to increase its network of aviation fuel stations by 50 per cent as it looks to capture greater market share in the business currently controlled by public sector oil retailing firms. In its latest annual report, RIL said the double-digit growth observed over 52 consecutive months might have been stalled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but India continues to be one of the fastest growing aviation markets in the world for the fifth consecutive year. RIL, which operates the world's largest single location oil refining complex, plans to capture this opportunity through increased presence at airports to refuel airplanes. Air-passenger traffic in India rose 9 per cent even in February after the Indian carriers recouped to full capacity that was lowered following the closure of a major domestic carrier in the first few months of financial year 2019-20 (April 2019 to March 2020) as well as disruptions at Mumbai airport owing to construction and maintenance, it said. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, while travel restrictions were being imposed elsewhere, India was largely unaffected till the end of March 2020, before the sharp escalation in travel bans globally and lockdowns impacted India's aviation sector too. "On account of its network strength, cost competitiveness, industry leading technology and best-in-class service standards, RIL improved its volume share in the domestic market," according to the annual report. Reliance Aviation has the highest market share in 20 per cent of the operating airports. "RIL is looking to increase its network to 45 locations as against 30 at the end of FY 2019-20 and is well geared to benefit with the growth in the Indian aviation market," it said. India currently has 256 aviation fuel stations, with state-owned Indian Oil Corp (IOC) owning 119 of them. Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL) has 61 and Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL) the remaining 44. RIL is the largest private aviation fuel retailer with 31 stations, according to the latest data from the oil ministry. In comparison, RIL's auto fuel retailing network is very small. Out of 69,392 petrol pumps in the country, RIL operates 1,398. IOC has the highest number of outlets at 29,208, followed by HPCL with 16,557 and BPCL with 16,309 petrol pumps. Russia's Rosneft-backed Nayara Energy is the biggest private auto fuel retailer with 5,720 petrol pumps. RIL said it registered 9.8 per cent growth in retail diesel sales and 14.7 per cent in retail petrol volume as compared with 1.5 per cent and 6.3 per cent for industry, respectively. During financial year 2019-20, RIL registered over 10 per cent growth in average outlet sales volume. On bulk diesel, RIL said it registered a volume growth of 10.8 per cent, increasing market share to 8.8 per cent, despite expected demand contraction and margin pressure. Markets InsiderIan Winer, the head of equities at Wedbush Securities, is making a bold call: buy retail stocks. Many investors may be fearful of stocks in the space after a rough start to 2017. The <a href="http://markets.businessinsider.com/etfs/SPDR-S&amp;P-Retail-ETF">XRT SPDR S&amp;P Retail ETF</a> fell 14% from December 2016 to April of this year."The consumer discretionary group, while still subject to "headline risk" around a border tax, feels like it has bottomed to me and is going to make a slow grind move up 5% to 10% from these levels," Winer told Business Insider.Winer says institutional investors have been pulling money out of the <a href="http://markets.businessinsider.com/etfs/SPDR-S&amp;P-Retail-ETF">XRT ETF</a> as a source of funds to put money to work in more promising sectors of the economy. Additionally, most of the buying in the last few weeks has been traders covering their short positions. However, Winer believes he has seen real institutional demand for stocks in the retail sector over the past few days.While Winer said the Border Adjustment Tax or "BAT Tax" is the most prolific risk to retail, he does not think that the tax will come to fruition. He said:Winer thinks the BAT Tax is unlikely because of the real and immediate effects it would have on the American people."89k Americans have been laid off in the General Merchandise Stores since October, which is more than all of the people employed in the coal industry," Winer said. "1 out of every 10 Americans works in retail."On the auto retail front, there have been fears surrounding the concept of "peak auto," that US auto and with it, auto parts sales, are about to level off and decline. Winer said he thinks that auto parts retailers will thrive in the next three to six months because he said, sentiment surrounding the sector has reached, "near-term max bearishness."Many investors have been counting out brick-and-mortar retail on account of Amazon. While Winer said the devastating effects <a href="http://markets.businessinsider.com/stock/amzn-Quote">Amazon</a> has on brick-and-mortar retail are real, there are plenty of opportunities to buy stocks Amazon can't beat such as, <a href="http://markets.businessinsider.com/stock/bc-Quote">Brunswick Corporation</a> because, <a href="http://markets.businessinsider.com/stock/amzn-Quote">Amazon</a> isn't selling recreational watercraft anytime soon.Winer believes that while there is little growth in the retail sector at the moment, there is still money to be made at these low levels and that investors should buy the space as a value play."To be clear, I am not saying the coast is clear for all of retail forever," Winer concluded.
