<keyword id="323679" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="Infosys-Employees">Infosys employees</keyword> who are looking to switch their job profiles will now be able to do so using a designated internal platform, called Compass. It would make sure that the employees don’t look outside when they want to switch roles, and instead find one within the company. 
 
Compass, the digital platform rolled out by the technology giant would also allow them to mobilise available opportunities on career growth, learning and networks. 
 <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> is trying to digitise all its HR processes, putting an extra focus on technology so that it can enhance the experience of its employees. In the past couple of years, it has introduced a range of such initiatives using available technologies, which help its employees be more productive. 
 
"Those who want a change from their current job profile or posting can now log on to Compass, and view a curated list of opportunities based on their skills and interests. Employees can create a humanised profile to showcase their professional achievements. Video CVs, endorsements, blogs and badges can also be shared," Richard Lobo, SVP and head-HR, Infosys, told <a href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/tech/ites/infosys-internal-platform-compass-to-help-employees-change-job-profiles/articleshow/52998947.cms">ET</a>. 
 
The platform can also be used as a networking website where like-minded people can interact, thus facilitating making use of existing expertise and experiences that the employees possess. 
 
On its launch, the programme, which is available to employees pan India, saw over 6,000 requests from employees in three hours.

Infosys to allow employees to switch job profiles using an internal platform

<keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword>, which is India's second largest software exporter, has posted strong results for four quarters straight, because of which it has handed out an average wage hike of about 6 to 12% for all its offshore employees. On-site employees, on the other hand, were awarded about 2% of average hikes. Top performers, on the other hand, will get above-average hikes. 
 Infosys CEO <keyword id="6369763" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vishal-Sikka">Vishal Sikka</keyword> told investors said that FY 2015-16 had been good, and that they were on the edge of achieving industry leading growth in this fiscal. 
 
Last year, the average wage hikes at Infosys were of about 6.5%, following a disappointing year for the company with a revenue growth of about 7%. 
 
An average wage increase of 6 to 12% from Infosys could prove to be standard for salary hikes across the $160-billion IT industry of India, making companies like TCS and Wipro following suit.

IT industry, at this time, is facing a lot of issues, leading to the salaries at entry level going down the hill. The shareholders at TCS and Infosys have already begun questioning the payments of these CEOs, which as per them are very high. The highest salary is taken home by Infosys CEO Vishal Sikka, and Infosys also has the highest CEO compensation in comparison to median employee remuneration, which is 935.38 times. 
 
In comparison, Wipro's CEO is paid the least, and the company has the lowest ratio of CEO compensation to employee remuneration (260.19 times). 
 
For several years now, the starting salaries of IT entrants have been within the Rs 2.5-3.5-lakh per annum, which has forced some companies to hire B.Sc and a few arts graduates who can support IT people, so that they can continue maintaining low salaries at the bottom of the pyramid.

IT CEOs take home thousand times a maiden employee’s salary

The CEO’s pay had never come up for discussion at <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword>, India's second-largest software company, as the position always went to founders, who held shares in the company and this compensated for their comparatively low salary. But now, as the firm is going to hire its first non-founder CEO, it is ready to spend some bucks to attract talent. 
 
According to sources, Infosys will match the salary of the new CEO with the top companies in the industry to reach out to top IT executives. Salary of $2 Million per annum is being looked at for this position. 
 
Infosys had reported revenue of $8.4 billion in the financial year 2013-14. 
 The vacancy for a new chief executive arose after the current chief executive SD <keyword id="164476" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Shibulal">Shibulal</keyword> expressed desire to step down earlier than his planned retirement in March 2015. 
 
Till now, Infosys’ chief executives have been making money from the dividends earned through shares. Shibulal got only Rs 16 lakh as salary during the financial year 2013-14, but he holds about 25 lakh Infosys shares. 
 
Some experts, however, have expressed doubt whether Infosys' decision to cough up dollars would be enough to attract top talents as there is ambiguity on the role and powers of the new chief executive. 
 
"Matching the rivals (when it comes to CEO salaries) is fine, but anyone interested in the job would be more concerned with what role and powers he will have," said the head of a Bangalore-based staffing firm that also works on CEO compensation. 
 Both <keyword id="327609" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Egon-Zehnder">Egon Zehnder</keyword> and Infosys did not comment on the matter.

Infosys’ New CEO To Get Salary At Par With
TCS, Wipro, Cognizant

<ul><li>Over 100 employees in TCS received over ₹ 10 million in annual remuneration in the last fiscal, ET reported. </li><li>In comparison, Infosys extended ₹10.2 million to nearly 60 employees in India, including variable stock component. </li><li>The two IT companies reportedly increased their hirings by 350% in FY19. </li></ul>Homegrown IT major Tata Consultancy Services(TCS) reportedly extended nearly ₹10 million in annual remuneration to over 100 employees in the previous fiscal. In comparison, TCS has 91 employees having annual salary above ₹10 million in FY17, and the count has increased to 103 in 2019. However, this excludes the salaries of employees based outside India, and top-notch employees — CEO Rajesh Gopinathan and COO NG Subramaniam. The annual remuneration includes salary, cash incentives, allowances and the company’s provident fund component. This, however, includes the variable stock component. The youngest employees(earning over ₹10 million) in the company are in their early 40s, while the oldest employee in the company is 72 years old. TCS has a good retention rate among the senior employees. According to analysts, TCS’ success is due to the stable and consistent senior talent pool and its ability to give people leadership roles without losing them to rivals, ET reported. For these <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Infosys-Q4-preview-Despite-seasonal-weakness-Y-o-Y-revenue-growth-and-rise-in-net-profit/articleshow/51827282.cms" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">efforts and results</a>, Sikka will take home a new <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Infosys-CEO-Vishal-Sikkas-fat-pay-package-to-get-fatter/articleshow/51133586.cms" target="_BLANK￿￿￿￿">overall compensation</a> of $11 million from the current fiscal, including a base salary of $1 million, $3 million in variable pay, $2 million in restricted stock units (RSUs) and another $5 million in stock options based on the company’s performance. This compensation revision has coincided with his tenure being extended by another two years up to 2021. 
 
However, this extension was not agreed upon by some of the promoters, who withdrew from voting on this resolution, while also arguing that his new remuneration was way against the company's long held beliefs. 
 
Sikka has also changed the company's senior leadership compensation, elevating three executive vice presidents (EVPs), Sandeep Dadlani, head of Americas, Ravi Kumar, chief delivery officer and Mohit Joshi, head of financial services, as presidents. As per ET sources, the salaries of these new presidents would touch a new high of nearly $2 million including stocks and long-term incentives.

A change in the long-term bonus policy at <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Infosys-is-boosting-overall-productivity-2X-and-there-is-no-stopping/articleshow/52322861.cms">Infosys</a>, which was implemented last year, has resulted in the number of <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> employees earning annual salaries of at least Rs 1 crore falling to less than half, from 113 to 54. The policy was changed for middle to top level title-holding executives at the Indian IT giant. 
 
The policy entitled <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Infosys-no-more-capitalism-compassionate/articleshow/52289437.cms">Infosys </a>executives above associate VP level for long-term bonuses that had accumulated over a period of three years, applicable after these executives completed at least one year in the company. This had led to the number of its employees drawing annual salary of more than Rs 1 crore rising nearly 10 times and reaching to 113 in 2015-16.

However, the concept of "long-term" payouts has now been done away with, with Infosys focusing on handing out annual bonuses to title-holding executives during the same financial year. This has led to this significant change in the number of executives falling in the Rs 1-crore pay bracket.

This was done to control the wear and tear at the top level of the company, and also to retain key executives so that Infosys has enough weapons in its battle against arch rivals TCS and <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/Infosys-to-replace-Cognizant/articleshow/52205202.cms">Cognizant</a>.

Neither are they unable to give double digit salary hikes, nor are they able to lure them in with<a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/nri/visa-and-immigration/h-1b-extension-rejections-rob-indian-it-firms-of-visa-power/articleshow/68312136.cms"> overseas opportunities</a>--thanks to record high visa rejections. During these difficult times, the country’s second largest IT company, Infosys might just have another plan up its sleeve. It recently gave away 50 million shares as employee stock options (eSOPs), accounting to 1.15% of its total shares, to a large base of employees. “In the last 2-3 years salary hikes have not been very good. Added to that, the number of overseas opportunities have also been lower because of fewer H1B visa approvals. So a large stock option plan across a large share of employees is a good plan,” commented Mohandas Pai, the former CFO and HR head of the company, who is now a startup investor. This year, Infosys gave 6% salary hike to 85%<a href="https://www.business-standard.com/article/companies/infosys-to-roll-out-6-annual-hike-for-india-staff-1-5-for-onsite-workers-119041201335_1.html"> of its employees</a>. Its peer, Tata Consulting Services (TCS) did no better with 2-6% hike for the same year. Infosys has a high rate of attrition at a little over 20%, and Pai believes that the company has been losing their employees to large MNCs. As newer technologies are being adopted by companies and clients, it is imperative for IT majors to retain their digital talent. Yet, few have been able to provide good salary hikes. Better performance As per the carefully crafted stock options, Infosys employees won’t have to wait too long to get their hands on the moolah, if the company does well. Unlike most employee stock options which specify a vesting date, a date at which they can be traded and sold—this is performance linked. “It is a reflection of how important performance is in an environment of strong demand. Performance based eSOPs essentially help employees grow with the company. It also helps the company align costs with revenue,” says Harit Shah, IT analyst at Reliance Securities. If challenging performance criteria like total shareholder return against industry peers, increase in total revenue, digital revenue growth and operating margins are achieved, these stock options can be vested! This way Infosys won’t have to pay upfront wage hikes, explains Shah, and wait to reap benefits later on. As employees help shareholders build value, they can vest their shares at a time when their company is in the best of shape, bringing the double bonanza that IT professionals have been waiting for a long time. The spat between <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=infosys&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Infosys</a> founders and the board members regarding the pay packages and governance issues is getting uglier. 
 On one hand where <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> founders are raising objections over pay hikes and severance packages of the people at the helm, the board is saying not much has been raised in the salaries of the top management. 
 
Infosys founder <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=narayana+murthy&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">NR Narayana Murthy</a> wrote a letter criticising pay hike given to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=pravin+rao&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Infosys COO Pravin Rao</a>, calling it unjustified. 
 
However, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=vishal+sikka&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Infosys CEO Vishal Sikka</a> said pay hike is critical to retain top talent. 
 "It is essential for us to see that this revision in his compensation, as with several of our senior leadership team, is focused on making Infosys more competitive, is benchmarked against peers. (It) is critical for us to retain key talent and align the long-term interests of our leadership team with that of our shareholders," said CEO <keyword id="6369763" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Vishal-Sikka">Vishal Sikka</keyword>. 
 
Meanwhile, Infosys stated the stock given to Rao has a vesting period of four years. This means the net increase in his compensation for fiscal 2018 will be 1.4% which could go up to 33.4% in the fourth year, assuming similar grants are made in subsequent years. 
 
The company said cash component of Rao's salary, including annual cash bonus, has fallen 10.6% to Rs 4.6 crore from Rs 5.2 crore earlier while the performance-based component, directly linked to company and individual performance, has been increased to 63% from 45% of total compensation. 
 
"I do not see Rao's compensation as a corporate governance issue. That is because it is not a related party transaction. Rao is a professional and not a promoter," said JN Gupta, managing director at Stakeholders Empowerment Services. 
 
The issue will be discussed during the two-day board meeting, which is scheduled for April 12 and 13.
