Xiaomi’s total investment of ₹35 billion consists of two fusions from Xiaomi Singapore. One, from January, of ₹15 billion and another in March on ₹29 billion. This is the largest investment made by Xiaomi in the four years that it’s been operating in India. Since then, not only has the company’s revenue grown steadily but so has its market share. So much so, that it overtook Samsung in 2018 with a market share of 28.9%, <a href="https://www.idc.com/getdoc.jsp?containerId=prAP44856419">according</a> to the International Data Corporation.

 But, according to industry executives who <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/tech/hardware/xiaomi-pumps-rs-3500-crore-into-india-business/articleshow/68457172.cms">spoke</a> to the Economic Times, Xiaomi is looking to expand into other sectors. Rather than bring in products like drones, he said he would focus on more lenient sectors like electric cycles. Since the company is also primarily reliant on online platforms for the sale of its smartphones, the investment will also be used to strengthen the company’s offline model in India by creating more stores around the country. Xiaomi currently has 26 exclusive stores and few hundred stores through its franchise partners. Doing to Samsung, what Samsung did to Nokia Xiaomi's rise in India and its impact on Samsung's market share is similar to the impact that the South Korean mobile manufacturer made on Nokia when it first came to country. At that point, it was Nokia that wasn't able to keep up with new 'smartphone' disruption in the market but with Samsung, it's a different story. Samsung is no way behind the times when it comes to technology with its dual aperture Galaxy S9 last year and the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Fold earlier this year. But, the company has been missing the mark when it comes to pricing, engagement and online strategy. Segments where others brands have managed to innovate. Not just Xiaomi but OnePlus as well, who managed to take Samsung's lead in premium smartphone segment. India a key market for Xiaomi as the demand back home is shrinking. And diversifying into new segments would mean that Xiaomi will be able to launch products with higher margins. Xiaomi makes its largest investment in India so far

The total new investment in H1 FY20 stood at ₹1.9 lakh crore. During the same period in the previous year, as much as ₹6.1 lakh crore were pumped into the economy. According to the report, investments in manufacturing, construction, real estate and irrigation have increased but those into mining and electricity have taken a hit. “The investment rate has declined consistently over the years and remained range bound between 28%-29% of GDP in the past 4 years. This has been a detrimental factor for the overall economic growth of the country,” said the report. Odisha had the highest share of new investments, and has overtaken Maharashtra. Investments are also slowing down because of the rising number of stalled projects. In FY19, 53% of government owned projects were stalled. However, in FY20, half of the stalled projects are privately owned. Most of the stalled projects were seen in the services sector, followed by electricity and manufacturing. The report stated that the reason for stalled projects has been lack of non- environmental clearances and lack of funds.

New investments fell to a 15-year low in the midst of slowdown, says report

For the first time ever, India has decided to put in place a dedicated cell to promote Russian investments in the country so that Russia’s vision statement of opening new vistas of economic engagement in India can be advanced. The idea was suggested by PM <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> during his meeting with CEOs of India and Russia in presence of Russian President <keyword id="43440" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vladimir-Putin">Vladimir Putin</keyword> in St Petersburg. The cell will be reporting directly to the Prime Minister’s Office and will assist Russian businessmen with planning, executing, forming joint ventures and searching for locations for their investments in India. The cell would be functioning under ‘Invest India,’ which is the investment wing of the Indian government and was a part of the June 1 CEO forum as well as St Petersburg International Economic Forum. “This cell will be key to push <keyword id="4656023" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Russian-investments-in-India">Russian investments in India</keyword> in non-traditional sectors with Delhi and Moscow aiming to give economic heft to the bilateral strategic partnership,” Invest India MD &amp; CEO Deepak Bagla told <a href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/economy/foreign-trade/in-a-first-india-to-put-dedicated-cell-to-promote-russian-investments/articleshow/59151486.cms">ET</a>. Other large buyout deals in 2018 include Kedaara Capital and Partners Group’s acquisition of Vishal Mega Mart for $734 million, and GIC and Abu Dhabi Investment Council’s $450 million in renewable energy company Greenko Energy Holdings. “The Indian PE industry appears to have come of age, with PE backed platforms attracting marquee <keyword id="89429" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Global-investors">global investors</keyword> like Berkshire Hathaway, which recently announced an investment of ~$300-US$400 million in Paytm,” Vivek Soni, Partner and National Leader Private Equity Services, EY, said in the EY report. Key drivers PE funds have had a good year in terms of fund-raising, increasing their ability to plough in more money in investments. As of the end of August, PE funds had over $40 billion in capital marked for India investments, according to the EY report. Given the tough market to raise loans via traditional banks, many Indian companies are also increasingly turning towards <keyword id="108089" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Private-equity-firms">private equity firms</keyword> for alternative sources of capital and have been willing to forgo stakes in part due to the operational expertise these firms promise in running business in similar sectors. Private equity firms are making bigger and bolder investments In India

French companies will invest $10 billion in India over the next five years, chiefly in the industrial sector, Finance Minister Michel Sapin said on Monday during a visit by President Francois Hollande to India. 
 
"Over the last five years, French companies have invested more than $1 billion per year in India," Sapin said in a speech to the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry in New Delhi. 
 
"We estimate that they will continue to invest at least $10 billion over the next five years." 
 
Hollande, invited as guest of honour for India's Republic Day celebrations, hopes to seal an intergovernmental deal that would pave the way for the sale of 36 Rafale combat jets made by Dassault Aviation. 
 As part of that deal, there would be significant "offsets", or related French investments that <keyword id="6354814" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="prime-minister-Narendra-Modi">Prime Minister Narendra Modi</keyword> hopes will support his "Make in India" initiative to develop the manufacturing sector. 
 
"The majority of these investments are meant for the industrial sector, which makes France the major player in Prime Minister Modi's 'Make in India' programme," Sapin said.

French firms to invest $10 billion in India

Wishing Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his birthday on Sunday, Foxconn representative V Lee wrote in a LinkedIn post: "Under your leadership, Foxconn has grown smoothly and rapidly in India". "We will work even harder to present you with a greater birthday gift next year, aiming for another doubling of employment, FDI, and business size in India," Lee said in the post. Replying to the post on X (formerly Twitter), IT, Electronics and Communications Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the Government is "fully committed" in its endeavour to support and facilitate. Earlier this month, Young Liu, Chairman and CEO of Hon Hai Technology Group (Foxconn), said that India will be an important country in terms of manufacturing in the future, his comment adding to a growing chorus of global voices acknowledging the country's bold moves to position itself as electronics and hi-tech production powerhouse. In an interaction with reporters in Taipei, the top honcho of the Taiwanese electronics manufacturing giant had further said the development of the entire ecosystem and industrial chain, and opportunities for development in India are "very, very huge opportunities". "If there is no big change, India will be a very important country in terms of manufacturing in the future," Liu had said. In the past, it took 30 years to build the entire supply chain ecosystem in China, he noted, adding that while it will take an "appropriate amount of time in India" and the process will be shorter given the experience. The environment too is not quite the same, he had said pointing to the advent of new technologies like AI and generative AI. India is wooing global IT and electronics players with policy sweeteners and incentive schemes, making a push to position itself as a global hub for hi-tech manufacturing. India hopes to play on the strength of its storied talent and skill base, vibrant market, and enabling policies to corner a substantial chunk of new investments flowing into electronics and semiconductor production, and global value chains. Recently, as many as 40 companies, including big names like Foxconn Group, HP, Dell and Lenovo, applied for incentives under India's Production Linked Incentive (PLI) IT hardware scheme for manufacturing laptops, PCs and servers. Last month, Foxconn also said it sees the potential of investing several billions of dollars in India if it gets to completely implement its plan. Liu during Foxconn's second quarter earnings call in August had said that the company's Indian arm has achieved a turnover of close to USD 10 billion on an annual basis and there is a lot of investment potential in India. He had said Foxconn operates about nine campuses in India.

After elections again, they find it a very stable place to invest," the ambassador expressed. Philipp Ackermann termed the long-pending India-EU Free Trade Agreement a "game changer". He mentioned that no specific deadline has been set for signing the Free Trade Agreement, stating that "it will take some time." "There is no deadline because the <keyword id="20000557" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="FTA" source="keywords">FTA</keyword> relationship is very complicated and it has to take time. We have now seen the ninth round, if I'm not mistaken, which just finished a day or two ago. We are in the process of negotiating the German government is very much behind this," he said "We feel that the FTA is very important for our business; it will be even more so if it is a game changer. So I'm very hopeful that at some stage we come to a conclusion, but don't ask me about the timeline. I think it will take some time," he added. When asked what impact the FTA will have on the Indo-German trade relationship, the envoy said that tariffs and taxes are one of the reasons German companies say might impede investment, and with an FTA, the tariff side will be solved. "For many German companies, an FTA will bring a clear solution and regulation on tariffs and trade and it would be a great gift for their business," he added. The proposed trade deal with the EU is one of the most complex FTAs being negotiated by India. There has been no breakthrough despite several rounds of talks. On June 17, 2022, the European Union relaunched negotiations with India for a Free Trade Agreement, and launched separate negotiations for an Investment Protection Agreement and an Agreement on Geographical Indications (GIs). The mandator also gave details about the possible visit of German chancellor Olaf Scholz, saying the chancellor will travel to Delhi and parts of his cabinet, including the German ministers, will accompany him and sit down with their Indian counterparts to develop coming programmes and projects and the roadmap. "So we expect that to happen in the second half of October sometime. The dates have not been finalised yet. But it is a very, very good moment to sit down, compare notes, and say, Where is this apprenticeship going?" he added. "We will try to develop the future of this partnership during these consultations. Other items on the agenda are certainly business relations and trade relations, but also migration, which is a very interesting issue within and certainly does politics as usual," he said.

Jack of all Threads is a platform that allows one to design t-shirts online which they can then promote using social media. The website takes care of logistics, production, customer support, finance and technology while the money raised goes to the organization. There are in-house designers waiting to help if you do need assistance. 
 
To sum it up, “Jack of all Threads makes it easy and accessible for people to become creative entrepreneurs”, Co-Founder Yash Vardhan Kanoi says. 
 
The website has hosted around 2500 campaigns a month since it’s inception, with over 500 new users joining every month. This includes NGOs like Akshaya Patra Foundation, CRY, Teach For India and Make A Difference that find it convenient to fund their campaigns.
