CHENNAI: Tyre major <keyword id="64876" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="JK-Tyres">JK Tyres</keyword> is focusing on expanding its export footprint using its plant in <keyword id="3746" type="COUNTRY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Mexico">Mexico</keyword> to drive volumes in the car segment as part of which some New York cabbies are have now started using the Indian brand for the first time. The tyre market leader has been pushing after-market sales and exports in an effort to make up for the slowdown in the domestic car market, said top company officials. 
 “Our export focus has helped us to grow our exports 23% in financial year 2013-14,” said Arun Kumar Bajoria, president, JK Tyres. “Including our JK Tornel Mexico exports, our consolidated exports are worth Rs 1605 crore in the just ended fiscal, up 20%.” The Mexico arm has also landed JK it’s first presence in the New York cabbie market. “We have added <keyword id="46283" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Nissan">Nissan</keyword> and <keyword id="6361865" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Volkswagen">Volkswagen</keyword> as OEM clients from our Mexican operations as a result of which New York Nissan cabs have started using made in Mexico JK tyres for the first time,” said Bajoria. “We have added five new export markets last fiscal and we now have a presence in over 100 markets,” he added. 
 
Improved exports, a bigger share of after-market sales and a significant softening of raw material prices has helped JK turn in its highest ever profit with a 29% increase in net profit to Rs 263 crore in FY13-14. Natural rubber prices have hovered in the region of around Rs 148-149 per kg for most of last fiscal and is currently range bound at below Rs 150/kg. Other critical inputs like carbon black and synthetic rubber prices are also down though nylon fabric and crude oil are up. “The effect of raw material prices is in the range of around 3% but raw materials constitute about 70% of the net sales price so their actual impact works out to just over 2%,” said Bajoria. 
 
The drop in car production has hit OEM demand for tyres so most tyre companies have been working on exports and replacement demand. “We have increased our share of the domestic replacement markets in each category from truck and bus radials where at 34% we are market leaders to light commercial vehicles, car radials, farm tracks and off the road tyres,” said Bajoria. The perky growth in tractor demand has also led to a renewed focus on that market. “It’s a focus area for us and we have doubled our capacity in 2013-14 to more than 230,000 units a year now,” he added. 
 
Currently the OEM and replacement plus export market split in radial tyres is around 50:50 while in truck radials the split is 81:19 in favour of replacement/export markets. JK is currently investing Rs 1430 crore in its Sriperumbudur plant near Chennai to add 800,000 units capacity to its truck and bus radial production taking its capacity to 12 lakh units. It is also adding 15 lakh units in car radial capacity to take its total production capacity to 45 lakh units in Chennai. “Our total tyre capacity across all plants is 23 lakh truck and bus radials and 97 lakh car radials,” said Bajoria.

New Delhi, Jan 30 () JK Tyre &amp; Industries on Thursday reported a 61.8 per cent decline in its consolidated net profit at Rs 10.27 crore for the third quarter ended December 31, 2019.
 The company had posted a net profit of Rs 26.89 crore for the October-December period of 2018-19.
 Total income rose to Rs 2,207.07 crore for the period under review as compared with Rs 2,741.73 crore for the same period of previous fiscal.
 "It was indeed a challenging quarter for the automotive industry. Passenger and commercial vehicles have witnessed a drastic cut in production," JK Tyre Chairman and Managing Director Raghupati Singhania said in a statement.
 The company has dealt with this difficult situation by focusing on replacement sales and exports, he added.

New Delhi, May 13 () JK Tyre &amp; Industries on Wednesday said it has developed a hand sanitizer as part of its efforts to combat coronavirus pandemic in the country.The product goes by the brand name 'Total Control Hand Sanitizers' which has been developed at the company's technology centre in Mysuru, Karnataka, it said.The product has been developed as per the guidelines issued by WHO, and acquired all the necessary approvals and licenses within a record time period of eight days, JK Tyre said."The JK Tyre hand sanitizer is our latest contribution towards ongoing relief measures of the government in countering the pandemic," JK Tyre &amp; Industries Chairman and Managing Director Raghupati Singhania said.The company is producing the hand sanitizers at its Kankroli facility in Rajasthan. COVID-19: JK Tyre comes up with a hand sanitiser brand

New Delhi, Jan 6 () JK Tyre &amp; Industries expects exports to grow around 50 per cent in the ongoing fiscal to clock over Rs 800 crore, which along with domestic replacement market will help offset decline in direct sales to automobile makers, according to a senior company official.
 Due to the ongoing slump in the Indian automobile sector, the company has seen contribution from Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) segment to its overall sales decline to around 20 per cent from an earlier 32-33 per cent.
 "We could actually combat that slowdown in OEMs (sales) to a large extent through increase in sales in the replacement market and exports," JK Tyre &amp; Industries CFO Sanjeev Agarwal told .
 For example, he said in December JK Tyre's exports have gone up by more than 40 per cent and in the replacement market it grew by 18 per cent.
 "Similarly, in the first nine months, the growth has been very good in the export market segment and also in replacement market. These have become a saviour for us and we could actually turn around the situation of decline in the OEM segment," he added.
 Elaborating, Agarwal said in the first nine months, exports have grown by around 40-45 per cent resulting in revenue clocking over Rs 800 crore as compared to Rs 550 crore in the same period last fiscal.
 In the replacement market, he said the company has clocked "double digit" growth without sharing absolute numbers.
 On the outlook for the ongoing fiscal he said,"Definitely in the export market we will register almost about 50 per cent growth. In domestic market also we are expecting 12-14 per cent growth."
 These will basically offset loss of sales in the OEM segment, he said adding "OEM has come down from about 32-33 per cent last year to about 20 per cent this year."
 Agarwal said the company has also gained from anti-dumping duties imposed on Chinese tyres in the US, which is "a very important market where we have expanded our distribution network with specific products launched for the market".
 Also, in the domestic market Chinese imports have come down substantially in the last couple of years due to anti-dumping duty and anti-subsidy duties, which was levied last year thereby helping domestic manufacturers, he added.
 "In this year this (Chinese imports) will go down by around 3-5 per cent," he added.
 On the outlook for fiscal 2020-21, he said,"We are seeing green shoots in the auto sector...OEM segment will come back and this will pick up. We will continue to focus on the segment of exports and replacement market in the new financial year as well."
 On the export front, he said JK Tyre has been focussing on Europe, the US and some of the Middle East markets which will help it in further increasing overseas shipments.
 The company has also started making groundwork for plans to enter Africa, which is still a bit away, Agarwal added. RKL ANU

JK Tyre bets big on exports, replacement market to beat auto sales slump

New Delhi, Apr 3 () JK Organisation, which has diversified interests including tyres, cement and paper, on Friday pledged Rs 10 crore for fight against the coronavirus pandemic. While a large part of the fund will go to the Prime Minister's Relief Fund in fighting COVID-19, the rest will be utilised in meeting the immediate needs of communities and migrant labour, currently underway, at several locations across the country, the organisation said in a statement. "The relief work which has been undertaken by the member companies – JK Tyre, JK Paper, JK Lakshmi Cement, JK Fenner and others - are going on for quite some time at several places, includes distribution of food, drinking water, masks, sanitisers, safety kits for various front line workers of health and sanitation departments, creation of isolation wards etc," it said.Commenting on the initiatives, JK Organisation President Bharat Hari Singhania said: "Integral to our philosophy of making a substantive impact on the ground and working for the needy, we have been fighting the battle at several fronts by supporting the communities, helping migrant labours and our own employees families residing at our plant townships." The organisation is also constantly looking at ways to plug the shortfall of masks, protective gears, sanitisers and other items of necessity at the community level, the statement said. More than 20,000 masks and sanitizers in the villages have also been distributed in its fight against coronavirus. The organisation has also set up 50 medical camps in several villages to check for symptoms. Awareness sessions were also conducted for nearly 5,000 truck drivers, suppliers and other vendors, and provided with masks as well as sanitizers. New Delhi, Apr 7 () In a bid to support the country's fight against COVID-19, JK Tyre and Industries Ltd on Tuesday said is providing food supplies to over 10,000 daily earners and migrants in every region, besides organising health camps in 25 villages in the vicinity of its manufacturing facilities across India. The company, in a statement, said it is extending support to government officials, police department and government hospital employees with packed food and drinking water with the help of NGOs.Already, more than 50 plus medical camps have been set up in several villages to conduct first-level screening for COVID-19 symptoms among citizens and awareness drives were conducted for 5,000 truck drivers, suppliers and vendors.Additionally, district health departments have been provided with ambulance, safety materials, masks, soaps and hand gloves.
