Protests will be held at railway stations across the country against privatisation," he said. "We will observe a complete Bharat bandh on March 26, when our protest against the three farm laws completes four months. On March 19, the farmers will observe "Mandi Bachao-Kheti Bachao" day, he said. They said "Kisan Yatras" will be taken out in Bihar from March 11 and conclude on March 18 on Kisan Kranti Divas. Thousands of farmers, mostly from Punjab, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh, have been camping at the Delhi border points --- Singhu, Tikri and Ghazipur --- for over four months, demanding the repeal of farm laws and a legal guarantee on the minimum support price (MSP) for their crops. The protesting farmers have expressed apprehension that these laws would pave the way for the dismantling of the MSP system, leaving them at the "mercy" of big corporations. However, the government has maintained that the new laws will bring better opportunities to farmers and introduce new technologies in agriculture. Farmer unions call for Bharat bandh on March 26

A total 1,09,20,046 persons have been discharged so far. The total number of deaths in the country has reached 1,58,063, as per the ministry data. The recovery rate stands at 96.96 against 97.98 per cent recorded on Saturday, last week. The drop in recovery rate and the increase in new and corresponding active cases have been attributed to various factors, including continued spike in infections in <keyword id="13126" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maharashtra">Maharashtra</keyword> and the sudden spurt in <keyword id="6354953" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="punjab">Punjab</keyword>. Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab, <keyword id="20154" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="tamil-nadu">Tamil Nadu</keyword>, <keyword id="6354766" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gujarat">Gujarat</keyword> and <keyword id="6354780" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Karnataka">Karnataka</keyword> continue to report a surge in the daily new cases. They cumulatively account for 84.04 per cent of the new cases reported are from these states. The Ministry also informed that 7,63,081 samples were tested on Tuesday. The cumulative tests done by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) so far stands at 22,34,79,877. Till date, 2,43,67, 906 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been administered in the country since the mass drive began on January 16. The third phase of vaccination began on March 1 covering 27 crore of people above 60 and those above 45 years of age with comorbidities at 10,000 government and over 20,000 private vaccination centres. The global gross domestic product (<keyword id="35050" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="gdp">GDP</keyword>) will grow at 5.6 per cent this year if <keyword id="10901023" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="covid-19-vaccination-rollouts">Covid-19 vaccination rollouts</keyword> are fast and effective enough across the <keyword id="6354507" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="World">world</keyword>, the Paris-based Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) said. World output is expected to reach pre-pandemic levels by mid-2021 and the global economy is expected to grow by 4 per cent in 2022 after seeing 5.6 per cent growth in 2021, the OECD said in its latest Interim Economic Outlook issued on Tuesday. The OECD projected the US economy to grow at 6.5 per cent in 2021 thanks to "<keyword id="10901022" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="significant-fiscal-stimulus">significant fiscal stimulus</keyword> along with faster vaccination", reporters said. It forecast that GDP will rise 3.9 per cent in the euro area, "where the level of fiscal stimulus is lower and vaccine rollout slower". Prospects are brighter in the Asia-Pacific region where several countries have effectively contained the virus and industrial activity has regained dynamism, the OECD said. "In China, the GDP growth is projected to be 7.8 per cent this year; in Japan 2.7 percent; in Korea 3.3 per cent; and in Australia 4.5 per cent. "The recovery is likely to be more moderate in the emerging market economies of Latin America and Africa amid a resurgence of the virus, slow vaccine deployment and limited scope for additional policy support," it added. "Speed is of the essence," said OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurria. "Vaccines must be deployed faster and globally. This will require better international co-operation and co-ordination than we have seen up to now." OECD Chief Economist Laurence Boone said vaccination programs and stimulus measures should work hand in hand. "Widespread vaccination of the adult population is the best economic policy available today to get our economies and employment growing again," she said. "If we don't get enough people vaccinated quickly enough to allow restrictions to be lifted, the recovery will be slower and we will undermine the benefits of fiscal stimulus." World GDP to grow 5.6% if COVID-19 vaccine rollout fast and effective across the world, says OECD

India plans to ink a major defence deal with the US to procure 30 <keyword id="10903374" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="armed-drones-worth">armed drones worth</keyword> $3 billion (approximately ₹22,000 crore) to enhance <keyword id="834532" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="military-capabilities">military capabilities</keyword>, sources said. As per plans, India will be acquiring 30 MQ-9 Reaper -- 10 each for the three services. The procurement is being done as India is facing war-like situation on two fronts -- Pakistan and China. The approval to take these armed drones could be finalised during Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) meeting lead by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. To further cement the deal, US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin is expected to visit India later this month. India is becoming a strategic defence partner for the US, especially countering Chinese influence in the <keyword id="12350" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Ocean">Indian Ocean</keyword>. These MQ-9B Predator drones are manufactured by San Diego-based <keyword id="834093" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="General-Atomics">General Atomics</keyword>. The MQ-9B has an endurance of 48 hours and a range of over 6,000 nautical miles. It carries maximum payload of 2-tonne. It comes with nine hard-points, capable of carrying sensors and laser-guided bombs besides air-to-ground missiles. <keyword id="1799114" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="last-year">Last year</keyword>, the <keyword id="6355100" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-Navy">Indian Navy</keyword> took on lease two Sea Guardian drones to enhance surveillance over the Indian Ocean Region (IOR). The two non-weaponised MQ-9B Sea Guardian drones were leased for one year with an option of extending the period by another year. "Sedentary habits have crept into everyday lives of people since the start of Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown due to it. Among those visiting us at the hospital, we observed there are at least 30 per cent patients who are at an amplified risk of kidneys ailments arising due to increased body weight," said Gandhe Sridhar, Chief Consultant Nephrologist, Gleneagles Global Hospitals. "The lockdown produced behavioural, psychosocial, and environmental changes which, through a variety of mechanisms, has led to widespread rapid weight gain amongst certain sections of the population. There has been an increase in food shopping, food take away, and surge in alcohol sales, resulted in increase in <keyword id="10902986" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="obesity-instances">obesity instances</keyword>, and <keyword id="10902987" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="related-kidney-problems">related kidney problems</keyword>," he said. Doctors say obesity is potent factor for the development of major risks for chronic kidney disease, like diabetes and hypertension, and it has a direct impact on the development of even the end-stage renal disease. Being overweight can directly affect kidneys, and extra weight forces the kidneys to work harder and filter wastes above the normal levels. Obesity raises blood pressure by increasing renal tubular sodium reabsorption, impairing <keyword id="10902988" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="pressure-natriuresis">pressure natriuresis</keyword>, and causing volume expansion because of activation of the sympathetic nervous system and renin-angiotensin system and by physical compression of the kidneys, especially when visceral obesity is present. "Job losses linked to Covid-19 pandemic increased stress levels resulting into high-blood pressure and increase in metabolic syndrome among people, which is dangerous for the kidneys because it can increase the pressure on the glomeruli," said Dhananjaya Kappadi Lingappareddy, Consultant Nephrologist &amp; Kidney Transplant Physician, Continental Hospitals. Glomeruli are the tiny blood vessels in the kidneys where blood is cleaned, and over time, the increased pressure damages these vessels and kidney function begins to decline. Considering all these scenarios, it is best advised people lead a physically active life daily, to ensure their internal organs do not feel the pressure of excessive body weight or BP leading to problems like kidney failures, he added. According to P. Vijay Verma, Consultant Nephrologist, SLG Hospitals, fear of Covid-19 pandemic dissuaded many with early-stage as well as end-stage kidney ailments from seeking timely medical help at hospitals. "And this led to some devastating outcomes among the low immunity sections along with the aged population. People struggling with obesity fared poorly with their weight-control plans flying off the rails as they coped with the stress of the pandemic, and this did no good to those with kidney ailments," he said. Doctors say kidney problems generally do not cause symptoms until they enter a more advanced stage. However, a basic metabolic panel and complete urine examination are standard tests that can be done as part of a routine medical exam to check blood for creatinine or urea. These are chemicals that leak into the blood when the kidneys are not working properly, and tests can detect kidney problems early, when they are easier to treat. And one should be tested annually if they have diabetes, heart disease, or high blood pressure. Issuing a notice on Wednesday, the <keyword id="254034" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="department-of-tourism">Department of Tourism</keyword> put the ban, saying that each climber can take, share and make images and videos of their group or of oneself but they will face action if they take, make and share photos of other climbers without the department's consent. In the wake of a picture that went viral on May 20i9 about the "traffic jam" on Mt Everest taken by one record holder climber, Nirmal Purja, Nepali officials have been facing other similar kinds of criticism by the international media over threat to the <keyword id="6426894" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Himalayan">Himalayan</keyword> eco-system. The mountaineering community and some international media have criticized the hollow management of the Nepal government in managing the expedition on Mt Everest after the photo, "traffic jam in Everest" went viral. Later, several other climbers took pictures of other climbers, filming at the top of Mt Everest and circulated them on the Internet. Officials said some other attempts were made to defame Mt Everest's tourism management by circulating the pictures like piling of garbage at <keyword id="1061461" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Everest-base-camp">Everest base camp</keyword>, an avalanche in Everest during the earthquake in 2015. "Such activities have given negative publicity about the Everest so we decided to put a ban on taking pictures, movie and filming in the Everest by others," Mira Acharya, an official at Nepal's Tourism Department told the Nepali media, "to stop these kinds of negative publicity, we have come up with the new guideline that includes <keyword id="10904474" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="other-mountains">other mountains</keyword> in the country as well". Nepal has eight mountains whose heights are higher than 8,000 metres and Nepal witnesses a huge rush of mountaineers during the climbing season that generally falls in mid-May. Similarly, the new guideline also stated that any climber should have appropriate medical and health conditions for climbing the mountains. In the past, due to some climbers, who did not have the appropriate health and medical conditions to climb the mountains, emergency rescue operations had to be mounted. "We honour the personal freedom of climbers but that does not mean they can post images and videos of others without their consent. Either through commercial cameras or mobile sets, all such activities have been banned," Acharya told the Nepali media here. If anyone intends to disseminate still photographs and videos of people, avalanches and even dead bodies on the mountain among other things, they must secure consent from the Department of Tourism, the government agency that issues Everest climbing permits, the <keyword id="18568" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="kathmandu">Kathmandu</keyword> Post quoted the official. According to Ang Tsering Sherpa, former president of Nepal Mountaineering Association, though, it would not be possible to prevent the dissemination of videos or photos taken on Everest because millennials stand out for their use of technology, and even the older generation has embraced digital life. "You make a click here and in an instant, your photo goes around the world," he told the newspaper. A total of 6,507 mountaineers have climbed Everest from the Nepal side since Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and New Zealander <keyword id="134414" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Edmund-Hillary">Edmund Hillary</keyword> first set foot atop the world's highest peak in May 1953. The year 2019 was significant in terms of records set on the world's tallest peak. On May 22 and 23, a total of 223 and 212 climbers reached the summit, which has been recorded as the highest and the second-highest number of climbers on the top of Everest on any particular day. There were no expeditions last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which caused Nepal loss of millions in revenue, while thousands of people in the Himalayan region were rendered jobless. Foreigners pay $11,000 for a permit to climb Everest and spend anywhere between $40,000 and $90,000 for the entire expedition. Nepal's is banning Mount Everest climbers from taking pictures and videos of 'others' without consent

New Delhi, The brand value of the <keyword id="6354831" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="indian-premier-league">Indian Premier League</keyword> (<keyword id="6354312" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IPL">IPL</keyword>) went down for the first time in six years - by 3.6 per cent over one year. From Rs 47,500 crore in 2019, it fell to Rs 45,800 crore in 2020, the first decline since 2014, a report said on Wednesday. And in terms of US dollars, <keyword id="10904414" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="ipl-ecosystem-valuation">IPL ecosystem valuation</keyword> in 2019 was $6,780 million while in 2020 it was $6,190 million -- a change of 8.7 per cent, from Duff &amp; Phelps, a Kroll Business, which specialises in brand valuation, said in its report. "Year 2020 was a challenging one with economic distress and uncertainty due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The sports economy was not immune to this crisis, and the pandemic disrupted the sporting calendar for the year, with a string of tournaments being postponed or cancelled." IPL was relocated to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as the Indian government had paused sporting activities due to Covid-19. But the Indian cricket board was keen to organise the IPL, and that's why the tournament was shifted, like it did in 2009, when it was played in South Africa. "The IPL also felt the heat of the pandemic, and the findings of the seventh edition of this annual IPL study suggest that the IPL ecosystem value has decreased by 3.6 per cent in constant currency terms to Rs 45,800 crore from Rs 47,500 crore last year," said the report. Duff &amp; Phelps undertook a study during the initial lockdown period (April 2020) to analyse the initial impact of COVID-19 on the value of the IPL ecosystem, which was estimated in the IPL Brand Valuation Report 2019. Based on the scenarios it considered, the IPL ecosystem value was estimated to be impacted by nearly $1 billion only due to cancellation and without capturing the impact of the economic slowdown that might follow. "In our impact study, we had mentioned that depending on the extent of the post COVID-19 slowdown, most <keyword id="6371232" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="sponsors">sponsors</keyword>hip contracts may get renegotiated next year, as the spending power of the advertisers and sponsors is likely to be impacted by the economic slowdown," Duff &amp; Phelps said. This does appear to have played out when <keyword id="215177" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vivo">Vivo</keyword> decided to pull out of the title sponsorship at the last moment, and IPL had to scramble to get a new sponsor at the eleventh hour. The new sponsor entered at a steep discount, and the IPL had to take a hit of Rs 218 crore in sponsorship revenues. In 2020, the IPL had lower sponsorship revenues as compared to previous years. Much of this is attributed to Vivo pulling out of the title sponsorship deal and being replaced by Dream11. Dream11 paid Rs 222 crore for the season, as against Vivo's cancelled contract of Rs 440 crore/season for the IPL title sponsorship. The individual franchisees have also witnessed a reduction in their brand values over the last year, mainly due to reduced franchisee-related sponsorship revenue, loss of gate receipts, reduced food and beverage (F&amp;B) revenue and certain teams' on-field performances. The report further stated that champions Mumbai Indians remained the most valuable franchise with a brand value of Rs 761 crore. However, this is down by 5.9 per cent from Rs 809 crore in 2019. The highest drop in brand value was suffered by three-time champions Chennai Super Kings, who were evaluated at Rs 611 crore which is down 16.5 per cent from Rs 732 crore after IPL 2019. Kolkata Knight Riders have seen the second highest brand reduction at 13.7 per cent from Rs 629 crore after IPL 2019 to Rs 543 crore last year. "Similar to the impact on other businesses and the overall economy, the pandemic led to a decline in the IPL ecosystem value. However, with people forced to spend time at home, there was an increase in IPL television viewership. The 2020 edition was a huge success for broadcasters as it broke viewership and advertising revenue records. Television ratings skyrocketed and advertisers tapped into this opportunity to scale up their brand image. Despite the challenging year, this momentum is indicative of how strong the IPL brand has become," said Santosh N., External Advisor, Duff &amp; Phelps India Pvt Ltd. However, IPL's impact on its sponsors and partners continues to be remarkable, said the report. Following the announcement of central sponsorships by the <keyword id="82275" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Board-of-Control-for-Cricket">Board of Control for Cricket</keyword> in India (BCCI), the title sponsor Dream11 secured USD 225 million in funding, one of the official sponsors Unacademy joined in with a funding of USD 150 million, and another official sponsor, Cred, secured USD 80 million. "With the economy opening and Covid-19 cases decreasing in India, we expect sponsorship deals to be back to their pre-COVID-19 levels. We have now entered a more stable phase in terms of the IPL ecosystem's value; the value appreciation is not expected at the rate of previous years. However, an increase in the number of teams in 2022 and the renewal of media rights in 2023 could enhance the IPL ecosystem value in the future," Santosh said.
