 Bollywood actor <keyword id="15439" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Manoj-Bajpai">Manoj Bajpai</keyword>, one of the protagonists of the film said, “This project is close to my heart; as an artiste to encapsulate such a powerful message in such a short format is both challenging and exciting. It’s a pragmatic film with a strong social message that I believe will force the audience to stop, step back and introspect. It was great to be back on set with Raveena, who remains one of my favourite co-stars till date.”

<keyword id="20154" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="tamil-nadu">Tamil Nadu</keyword> Minister for <keyword id="189147" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Information-and-Broadcasting">Information and Broadcasting</keyword>, Mano Thangaraj has written to Union minister for Information and Broadcasting, Prakash Javedkar to immediately <keyword id="6354651" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="ban">ban</keyword> or stop the screening of "Familyman-2" web series on <keyword id="1245953" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="OTT">OTT</keyword> platform <keyword id="18635" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Amazon">Amazon</keyword> Prime throughout the country. The government in the letter on Monday said that the trailer of the series which was released recently depicts the "<keyword id="1004366" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Eelam">Eelam</keyword> Tamils in a highly objectionable manner". In the letter the state minister said that the Manoj Bajpai-Samantha-starrer not only hurts the sentiments of the Eelam Tamils but also the feelings of the people of Tamil Nadu. MDMK leader Vaiko had on Sunday made a similar plea to both Javedkar and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. Naam Tamilar Katchi leader and actor director Seeman had also called for ban on the series. Mano Thangaraj in the letter said: "Branding Tamil speaking actress Samantha as a "terrorist" in the series was directly an attack on the pride of Tamil population living around the world and no one would tolerate this kind of motivated and mischievous campaign." He also said that the series has already evoked widespread opposition from the people of Tamil Nadu as well as from the political parties in the state. The minister also said that while the Eelam Tamils were struggling for equality, justice, peace and dignity in the island nation, Amazon Prime should not have undertaken such a smear campaign against the community. The year of 2022 could be a watershed year for <keyword id="143" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bollywood" source="Orion">Bollywood</keyword>. For the very first time, a lead character in the movie is transgender in Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui starring Ayushmann Khurana and Vaani Kapoor. Called a conversation starter on transgenders, the movie was lauded by many. <div type="javascript" title="Custom" contenttype="Image"><cdata><![CDATA[ ]]></cdata></div> <div type="javascript" title="Custom" contenttype="Image"><cdata><![CDATA[ ]]></cdata></div> Then there was a formulaic Badhai Do starring Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar - which is a lesbian and a gay man married to each other, due to family pressure. Increasing roles but not being cast While Bollywood might seem to be taking one step forward, it has brought out many issues – be it roles for the community and of course, casting transgenders for the roles. The apathy towards LGBTQ+ community is also affecting artists who intend to find their place in the showbiz which has been expanding thanks to the number of web series and more under production. Yet, it’s falling short of people to accommodate them. Transgender actor Sushant Divgikar criticises the casting of cisgender actors as transgender characters in Bollywood. This comes as Bollywood is making several movies on gender diversity but tends to cast popular actors instead of the ‘right’ fit. “If a transgender person is not allowed to play a transgender character on screen in a film, they are not allowed to play a man in a film and transgender people are not allowed to play women in a film so what do transgender artists play? transgender trees in the back?” asks Divgikar on his Instagram. Divgikar is quite vocal about challenges faced by <keyword id="1218847" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="lgbtq-community" source="Orion">LGBTQ community</keyword> in society and Bollywood. Sharing another such experience on gender disparity on Youtube, Divgikar revealed that they were auditioning for a toothpaste ad when the casting director told them even before they entered the room, “You are too gay for this advertisement.” Yet, not all is lost. A few actors from the community have found their standing. Jim Sarbh, a popular actor who played a key role in the superhit movie Padmavaat, also plays a role in Made in India. In the popular Amazon Prime Video series, he plays a straight character. “It was really difficult playing a heterosexual male so that was a first big challenge that I had to overcome, what cultural significance would be here and whether people will accept it,” <a href="https://www.facebook.com/YesWeExistIndia/videos/1246256258883966/">he said sarcastically in an interview </a>as he believes there is still socia stigma around the community. While the number of shows and movies portraying queer connection are increasing – large numbers are played by A-list actors like Sonam Kapoor, Fawad Khan, Ayushmann Khurana, Manoj Bajpai and more. ‘It was the most challenging film because I have never done such a character before’, <a href="https://indianexpress.com/article/entertainment/bollywood/aligarh-was-most-challenging-film-for-me-manoj-bajpayee/">said Manoj about playing a gay character </a>that was named Siras in Aligarh. India has a long way to go in terms of gender issues and is still struggling to get many aspects like casting and treatment of women. Case in point is the controversy created by Shahid Kapoor’s Kabir Singh which was criticized for toxic masculinity. Thappad was touted to be a response to Kabir Singh. “Everyone should do one thing they feel will take us towards gender equality – and getting rid of stereotypes and conditioning will surely be a step in that direction,” said Tapsee Pannu who played the protagonist in the movie. People who know what acting is know that it is not only a profession that brings with it money and fame. In fact, those are mere perks for a person who gives his heart and soul to performing arts. Though it is true that acting can not be taught as this is skill that comes from within, there are many courses available in a number of acting institutes in India that help you polish this skill and learn the intricacies involved. 
 
Following is a list of acting schools from where you can enrol in acting courses and get a degree or diploma in performing arts. 
 
National School of Drama, New Delhi 
 
National School of Drama, or NSD as it is fondly called, is the Mecca of acting in India. An autonomous organization under the Ministry of Culture, this school has produced some of the best acting talents of the country including Pankaj Kapoor, Om Puri, Naseeruddin Shah, and Irrfan. It provides a three-year full-time diploma course in dramatic arts, following which you can pursue your career in theatre or films. The requirement for admission in this course is a graduation degree in any subject and participation in at least 6 theatre productions. A preliminary test/audition is conducted at five centres, Delhi, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Guwahati. 
 
Film And Television Institute of India, Pune 
 
If NSD is the Mecca of actors, FTII is no less. Known to be the origin place of some of the best talents of industry, this autonomous organization under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting offers a two-year post graduate diploma in acting, and has produced actors like Jaya Bachchan, John Abraham, Rajkumar Rao, Shabana Azmi and the late Smita Patil. The prerequisite for joining this prestigious course is a Bachelors Degree in any discipline from a recognised university, followed by a screening by a team of selectors. 
 
Asian Academy of Film and Television, Noida 
 
AAFT is another institute that provides graduate, post graduate and diploma courses in acting. Alma mater of Arjun Kapoor, this upcoming acting school has seen some of the best minds in the industry paying a celebrity visit and guest lectures. Founded by Sandeep Marwah who is closely related to the family of Anil Kapoor, this media school has seen some established film and TV actors as its alumni.

Known for training Shah Rukh Khan in acting, Barry John is accredited for training many young talents in his acting studio. And finally, just an act of selflessness and bravery -- a 14-year -old kid jumping into the water because he saw two other young boys drowning.
