The National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (<keyword id="20121976" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="NHSRCL" source="keywords">NHSRCL</keyword>) has finished constructing a 160-metre <keyword id="19968894" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bridge" source="keywords">bridge</keyword> over the <keyword id="22433114" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kolak-river" source="keywords">Kolak river</keyword> in <keyword id="19906863" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gujarat" source="keywords">Gujarat</keyword>'s <keyword id="22433115" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Valsad-district" source="keywords">Valsad district</keyword> as part of the <keyword id="20797069" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ahmedabad-Mumbai" source="keywords">Ahmedabad-Mumbai</keyword> <keyword id="20465802" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="bullet-train-project" source="keywords">bullet train project</keyword>, an official said on Tuesday. With this, nine out of 24 river bridges on the 508-km corridor have been completed, the NHRCL said in its latest update. The bridge between Vapi and Bilimora stations comprises four full-span girders of 40 meters each, it said. Kolak River is seven kilometres from Vapi and 43 km from Bilimora railway stations. The river originates from Saputara hills near Valveri and meets the Arabian Sea, the NHSRCL said. According to the NHSRCL, bridges have been constructed on the rivers Par and Auranga in Valsad, Purna, Mindhola, Ambika and Venganiya in Navsari, Mohar in Kheda and Dhadhar in Vadodara district. Bridge construction on Narmada, Tapti, Mahi and Sabarmati rivers was underway, it said. The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train corridor will have 12 stations on its 508-km route, of which eight will be in Gujarat and four in Maharashtra. Stations will come up at Sabarmati, Ahmedabad, Anand, Vadodara, Bharuch, Surat, Bilimora and Vapi in Gujarat, and Boisar, Virar, Thane and Mumbai in Maharashtra. The NHSRCL said the construction of stations was progressing rapidly, with the foundation work on all eight stations in Gujarat completed and the construction of superstructures at an advanced stage. The stations will have modern and advanced facilities and amenities for passengers, and some were being developed as transport hubs through integration with all basic modes of transportation, such as autos, buses and taxis, for faster and hassle-free connectivity. As of July 2, all civil contracts have been awarded, and 190 km of the viaduct and 321 km of pier work were completed, the NHSRCL stated in its update. The land required for the project has been acquired in Gujarat, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, and Maharashtra. The first mountain tunnel of 350 metres near Zaroli village in Valsad has been completed, and work has commenced on the country's first 7-km undersea rail tunnel, which is a part of 21 km long tunnel between BKC and Shilphata in Maharashtra, it said. The government aims to run the bullet train's first phase between Surat and Bilimora in south Gujarat by 2026. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe launched the Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train project in Gujarat on September 14, 2017. The 508-km route is expected to be covered in three to three-and-a-half hours. The high-speed rail line being built using Japan's Shinkansen technology has been funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

L&T bags new large order in Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project

National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) spokesperson Sushma Gaur said, "NHSRCL is exploring all the possibilities to plan two high speed rail stations in Delhi." She said that one of the stations is in close proximity of Sarai Kale Khan and Nizamuddin railway station for Delhi-Varanasi high speed rail corridor, which may provide road connectivity to the high speed rail users through outer ring road, metro connectivity through pink line metro, interstate bus connectivity through Sarai Kale Khan ISBT and regional rail connectivity through RRTS system. The NHSRCL has started the aerial LiDAR survey for the 800km Delhi-Varanasi high speed rail corridor earlier this month. She said that the tenders related to <keyword id="387162" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="data-collection">data collection</keyword> and various other activities including LiDAR survey, required for the preparation of Detail Project Reports for Delhi-Varanasi, for which the first draft of the DPR has already been submitted. The NHSRCL on January 10 this year launched the LiDAR survey for the Delhi-Varanasi route from Uttar Pradesh's Greater Noida, wherein a helicopter fitted with state-of-the-art aerial LiDAR and imagery sensors will capture data related to the ground survey along the proposed route. Another official related to the development told IANS that there will be two high speed rail stations in the Gautam Budha Nagar. Another official related to the development said that one of the high-speed rail station will come up near the proposed Jewar International Airport while the another one near Sector 148 in Noida. Talking about another station of the High Speed rail in Delhi, she said, "Locations are being explored for the other station for Delhi-Ahmedabad and Delhi-Amritsar high speed rail corridor, in close proximity of Sector-21, Dwarka Metro station and Bijwasan Railway station." She said that this may provide connectivity to Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport and central Delhi through Airport Express Metro Line and West Delhi, Central Delhi, East Delhi and Noida through Blue line Metro Line, upcoming <keyword id="9565" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="International-Convention-Centre">International Convention Centre</keyword> at Sector-25 and Gurugram. The Delhi-Amritsar-Chandigarh is 459 km long high speed rail corridor while the Delhi-Ahmedabad is 886 km long High speed rail corridor. The official said that the high speed rail stations in the national capital will be finalised only after the DPRs are submitted. Besides these three corridors, the <keyword id="76223" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ministry-of-Railways">Ministry of Railways</keyword> has entrusted the work to the NHSRCL to carry out the detailed project report (DPR) for the 711-km-long Mumbai-Hyderabad high-speed rail corridor, which will pass through Pune; 753-km-long Mumbai-Nagpur and as well as the 711-km-long Mumbai-Hyderabad bullet train corridor. The NHSRCL has also invited tenders for preparing the DPR for the 435-km-long Chennai-Mysuru and 760-km-long Varanasi-Howrah high speed rail corridors'. The NHSRCL is collecting data on these new proposed corridors for the preparation of the DPRs. LiDAR survey alignment or ground survey is a crucial activity for any linear infrastructure project as it provides accurate details of areas around the alignment. This technique uses a combination of laser data, GPS data, flight parameters and actual photographs to give accurate survey data. "Based on the findings of the survey, designing of the vertical and horizontal alignment, structures, location of the stations and depots, land requirement for the corridor, identification of project affected plots/structures, right of way etc are decided," Gaur said. The work on the 508 km Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet train project is also in full swing. Today (6 July), however, the NHSRCL has made a teeny tiny headway and has floated its first tender for building a bridge in the Navsari district of Gujarat. In all, around 60 bridges are to be built in the 508-km high-speed corridor. The NHSRCL has resorted to novel methods like recruiting women from the 73 villages where the land is to be acquired to help with the negotiation process, a method that is apparently working. These women have been successful in facilitating a dialogue between the heads of the villages and NHSRCL engineers for the joint measurement survey. In fact, they have managed to get the survey team into villages where earlier the team was threatened with violence and couldn’t even enter. Apart from this, a team of 15 women from various blocks have been roped in to explain the compensation packages being offered and the exact land requirements to the villagers. But, all things considered, this is a minute step forward for this mammoth project. It is still unclear whether the deadline to start civil work by December 2018-January 2019 will be met. The NHSRCL spokesperson Dhananjay Kumar, however, is quite confident and told the <a href="https://indianexpress.com/article/india/first-bullet-train-tender-goes-out-for-a-bridge-5247758/">Indian Express</a> that they are “on schedule as per the timeline of the project”. <ul><li>The government is readying the purchase of 18 E5 Series bullet trains from <keyword id="6355311" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="japan">Japan</keyword> for ₹70 billion, an inside source told Economic Times. </li><li>The bullet-train project is being developed with a soft loan from the <keyword id="6395487" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="japan-international-cooperation-agency">Japan International Cooperation Agency</keyword> (JICA). </li><li>The Indian government plans to launch the country’s first bullet train route between Mumbai and Ahmedabad by 2023.</li></ul>India’s bullet train project is all set to get underway. The government is readying the purchase of 18 bullet trains from Japan for ₹70 billion, an inside source told <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/industry/transportation/railways/india-on-track-to-buy-18-bullet-trains-from-japan-for-rs-7000-crore/articleshow/65678899.cms">ET</a>. A tender for the procurement of bullet trains from Japanese manufacturers is expected to go live soon. <keyword id="6817464" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="The-Bullet-Train">The bullet train</keyword> model in question will be the Shinkansen E5 Series. First launched in 2011, The 10-compartment train can travel up to speeds of 320 km/hr and has three seating classes. Interestingly, the transaction includes the transfer of all technologies required for the assembling and domestic production of such trains. Japanese train manufacturers Kawasaki and Hitachi are both expected to set up production facilities in the country at some point. If this does come to fruition, this could provide a major boost to the Make in India programme. The bullet-train project is being developed with a soft loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The total credit facility is around ₹880 billion and is payable over 50 years at a nominal rate of 0.1%. Japan and India have a strong history when it comes to partnering on rail networks. JICA also extended a loan and technical assistance to the state government of Delhi for the development of the city’s metro network. A launch by 2023 The Indian government plans to launch the country’s first bullet train route between Mumbai and Ahmedabad by 2023. The train corridor is 508-kms long and is currently being built in tandem with Japanese experts. There will be 12 stations on the route. The starting fares for the bullet train journey are expected to be ₹3000. Prior to that, a shorter route between the Gujarati cities of Surat and Billimora is expected to become operational in 2022. The project will only meet its deadline if the <keyword id="6355455" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="indian-railways">Indian Railways</keyword> is able to acquire land for the project by the end of the year. There has been resistance from landowners in <keyword id="6354766" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gujarat">Gujarat</keyword> and <keyword id="13126" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Maharashtra">Maharashtra</keyword> to the project. Their demands include government jobs and higher compensation. However, despite this, officials from the National High Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL) are confident of meeting the December 2018 deadline for land acquisition. Meanwhile, the High-Speed Training Institute, which is a key part of the project, is being built in Vadodara. Set up at an initial cost of ₹6 billion, the institute will be expected to train the 3,500 personnel required to operate bullet trains in the initial phase of development.

 The 508 km long <keyword id="3126397" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mumbai-Ahmedabad-high-speed-rail-corridor">Mumbai-Ahmedabad high speed rail corridor</keyword> will have a 21 km long tunnel under the sea, said a senior Railway Ministry official involved with the public transporter's ambitious bullet train project. 
 
While most part of the corridor is proposed to be on the elevated track, there will be a stretch after Thane creek towards Virar which will go under the sea as per the detailed project report by JICA. 
 
Estimated to cost about Rs 97,636 crore, 81 per cent of the funding for the project will come by way of a loan from Japan. The project cost includes possible cost escalation, interest during construction and import duties. 
 
It is a soft loan for 50 years at 0.1 per cent annual interest with 15 years' moratorium, said the official. 
 Rolling stock and other equipment like signalling and power system will be imported from Japan as per the <keyword id="1169184" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="loan-agreement">loan agreement</keyword>. 
 
The official said the loan agreement with Japan is slated to be signed by the end of the year and construction work is likely to begin by the end of 2018. 
 According top priority to the first of its kind project, railways has formed <keyword id="3274960" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="National-High-Speed-Rail-Corporation-Limited">National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited</keyword> (NHSRCL), a special purpose vehicle (SPV), with a paid-up capital of Rs 500 crore. 
 
A search committee comprising senior government officials including Cabinet Secretary, Chairman Railway Board and Secretary DOPT among others is on the job currently to select the Managing Director and five directors for the NHSRCL. 
 
Railways has already allotted Rs 200 crore for the SPV. Maharashtra and Gujarat will have equity of 25 per cent each, while the Railways will have 50 per cent in the SPV. 
 
The bullet train is expected to cover 508 km between Mumbai and Ahmedabad in about two hours, running at a maximum speed of 350 kmph and operating speed of 320 kmph. 
 
At present, Duronto Express takes about seven hours to cover the distance between the two financial centres. 
 For timely completion of the project, a joint committee has been formed under the vice-chairman of NITI Aayog with the secretaries of the <keyword id="6423836" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Department-of-Industrial-Policy-and-Promotion">Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion</keyword> (DIPP), Departments of Economic Affairs and Foreign Ministry as its members along with the Railway Board Chairman.
