New Delhi, Mar 19 () The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) has dismissed the claims of grandchildren of late Maharani Gayatri Devi of Jaipur over the ownership of the iconic Jai Mahal hotel. The appellate tribunal has set aside the previous orders of the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), which had allowed Maharaja Dev Raj and Rajkumari Lalitya Kumar majority stake in the company Jai Mahal Hotels Pvt Ltd, which owns the majestic property. A two-member NCLAT bench observed that Rajkumar Dev Raj and Rajkumari Lalitya "can not claim title on the basis of succession certificate dated February 19, 2009". "The alleged acts of oppression complained of by 1st and 2nd respondents (Rajkumar Dev Raj and Rajkumari Lalitya) occurred around 2001. Maharani Gayatri Devi on the death of Maharaj Jagat Singh (her son) on February 5, 1997 became his sole legatee by virtue of will dated June 23, 1996," NCLAT said in an order dated March 12. "Therefore, Rajkumar Dev Raj and Rajkumari Lalitya cannot claim inheritance on original 5,050 shares to be legal heirs of Late Maharaj Jagat Singh on his death (February 5, 1997)," it said. The NCLAT also said that "alleged acts of oppression complained of by 1st and 2nd respondents occurred around 2001" and they became shareholders of Jai Mahal Hotels on November 14, 2008 and February 19, 2009. "The Tribunal (NCLT) failed to consider the abovesaid aspects and wrongly held that Rajkumar Dev Raj and Rajkumari Lalitya inherited the shares of Late Maharaj Jagat Singh on February 5, 1997 on the death of Maharaj Jagat Singh," it said while setting aside the previous order. NCLAT further said that Maharani Gayatri Devi, who was at all material times including in 2001, was the sole legatee of Late Maharaja Jagat Singh, had through a letter on April 10, 2001 left it open to Jai Mahal Hotel to offer the shares to other existing shareholders and declined to subscribe to any shares. "In view of the aforesaid finding the impugned judgement dated August 1, 2018 passed by the Tribunal cannot be upheld. It is accordingly set aside," said NCLAT. Earlier on August 1, 2018 NCLT had restored the ownership of Jai Mahal hotel in favour of grandchildren of late Maharani Gayatri Devi. Allowing the petition of Gayatrai Devi's grandchildren, NCLT had set aside the resolution of the extraordinary general meeting of the company held in March 1999 and March 2001 regarding appointments on board and dilution of their stake. It had restored the "position ante immediately upon death of Maharaja Jai Singh " and set aside the resolution passed in the board meeting regarding allotment of shares. NCLT had restored their original position of the shareholding as well as the board of directors, and thereby making the grandchildren of Maharani Gayatri Devi as the owners of the Jai Mahal hotel in Jaipur. The grandchildren had earlier won the battle for transmission of their father's shares in their names. Built in 1745, the Jai Mahal Palace is now operated as a hotel by Taj group of Hotels. The chain's restaurants in Georgia are operating on "minimal hours," too, he added."In the restaurant business you have to control every penny," Degel said. He decided against closing Uncle Jack's dining rooms because it mainly had sit-in diners.Robert Cvetkovski, the CEO of Rhumcay Island Grille, a 700-person restaurant in Destin, Florida, cut back on most of its late-night entertainment."Due to the limited staff we had to decide the quality of life for the team members already overworked," Cvetkovski said. He said he felt that eliminating nightlife and late-night hours would help create a more stable environment.Robin LaForge, who owns Cheniere Shack in West Monroe, Louisiana, decided to shut his restaurant two days a week and close it an hour earlier on other days, after its staffing fell by roughly three-quarters.LaForge said that this meant that customers were getting better service and food, though he said that this has contributed towards revenues dropping by up to 40%.But swapping a company's opening hours can actually make it harder to find staff. Co-owner Colleen Kelley said she wanted to prioritize dine-in customers to ensure service was quick and food was high-quality.But sometimes orders were still slower than usual. But last night he was "Kenny G," a stand-up <keyword id="10156" type="POSITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Comedian">comedian</keyword> with a long career of financial knowledge to inform his act.
"We used to be the kings of New York. We had the money, we had the power, the restaurants," Gross bellowed to the audience at <a href="http://gothamcomedyclub.com/">Gotham Comedy Club's</a> "Funniest Person in Finance" competition. "It was all skimmed off your 401(k). I don't know if anyone said thank you, so thank you!"
The crowd howls. It helps that Gotham hosted a pretty friendly audience of bankers, advisors, and hedge funders. No hecklers. During the financial crisis, this room lost bonuses, not homes. Maybe second homes.
Gross - who finished fourth in the competition - entered after taking a stand-up class at Gotham. Now he thinks he'll continue the hobby. He's accumulated plenty of material over 35 years. "I just think about life in finance," he told Business Insider.
This one sure killed: "I've got a stock tip for you, but first I'd like to give a little shout-out to my compliance department," Gross pauses and then launches the middle finger. Roars again from the audience. Oh man, these guys have been there.
Other jokes hit home too. One dilettante performer cracked one about how he wanted to make a "ticker" for everything in his life - for bathroom breaks, fast food consumption, and masturbation.
"My neighborhood is very rough," former Bank of America trader (and <a href="http://www.cnbc.com/id/101176117">winner of the semi-final round</a>) Raj Mahal said. "Half of the kids are in jail... for insider trading!"
"Miss America <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/nina-davuluri-wins-miss-america-amid-racist-backlash-2013-9">is Indian</a>," Mahal quipped in one of the more hackneyed jokes of evening. "Even that job is outsourced."
"He's charming-funny," said one friend there to support Mahal.
Caliph Scott took home the grand prize, a free stand-up comedy class at Gotham. Scott won the crowd and judges over with a bit about his life across the Holland Tunnel in "Jersey Shitty."
When his white friends hang out with him there, Scott joked, they feel safer. But: "I'm a black guy afraid of black people... We exist!"
It wasn't all talking shop, with the performers - who won gift certificates at <a href="http://www.oceanarestaurant.com/">Oceana</a>, <a href="http://www.molyvos.com/">Molyvos</a>, and other consolation prizes - veering between finance and non-finance jokes.
Gross had one about how if Washington would get off <keyword id="42111" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Wall-Street">Wall Street</keyword>'s back, the subsequent hiring of strippers and prostitutes would help boost job growth. And there was, importantly, a great "liquidity crisis" poop joke. You can use your imagination.
