<ul><li><strong>This is the first time the All <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> Football Federation (<keyword id="50985" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="aiff" source="Orion">AIFF</keyword>) has been banned by <keyword id="57149" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="fifa" source="Orion">FIFA</keyword> in its 85 year history.<br /></strong></li><li><strong>FIFA U-17 Women's <keyword id="22177" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="world-cup" source="Orion">World Cup</keyword> 2022, scheduled to take place in India on 11-30 October 2022 stands canceled.<br /></strong></li><li><strong>Following the ban, the fate of the AIFF elections, to be held on August 28 is uncertain.</strong> <br /></li></ul>World football governing body FIFA on Tuesday suspended India for "undue influence from third parties" and said the U-17 Women's World Cup "cannot currently be held in India as planned."<br /><br />The country is scheduled to host the FIFA tournament from October 11-30.<br /><br />This is the first time the All India Football Federation (AIFF) has been banned by FIFA in its 85 year history. <br /><br />"The <keyword id="14728460" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="bureau-of-the-fifa-council" source="Orion">Bureau of the FIFA Council</keyword> has unanimously decided to suspend the All India Football Federation (AIFF) with immediate effect due to undue influence from third parties, which constitutes a serious violation of the FIFA Statutes," the FIFA said in a statement.<br /><br />The Bureau of the FIFA Council said the lifting of the suspension will be subject to repealing of the Committee of Administrators' (CoA) mandate in full. In a statement, the FIFA also said it wants the AIFF administration to "be fully in charge of the AIFF's daily affairs".<br /><br />"The suspension means that the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup 2022, scheduled to take place in India on 11-30 October 2022, cannot currently be held in India as planned. FIFA is assessing the next steps with regard to the tournament and will refer the matter to the Bureau of the Council if and when necessary.<br /><br />A ban on India has been on the cards since the <keyword id="6354977" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="supreme-court" source="Orion">Supreme Court</keyword> removed Praful Patel as AIFF president on May 18 for not holding elections, due in December 2020.<br /><br />The court had appointed a three-member Committee of Administrators (CoA), headed by former apex court judge AR Dave, to manage the affairs of the national federation.<br /><br />The CoA, which has former Chief Commissioner of India SY <keyword id="208659" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="quraishi" source="Orion">Quraishi</keyword> and ex India captain Bhaskar Ganguly as other members, also had to frame its constitution in line with the <keyword id="1461378" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="national-sports-code" source="Orion">National Sports Code</keyword> and model guidelines.<br /><br />The Bureau of the FIFA Council decided that upon lifting of the suspension, the AIFF constitution will have to be revised in accordance with the requirements of the FIFA and the <keyword id="85214" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="afc" source="Orion">AFC</keyword> and to be approved by the AIFF general assembly without interference from any third party.<br /><br />The FIFA, "concurrently", wants an "independent electoral committee to be elected by the AIFF general assembly to run the elections of a new executive committee".<br /><br />As per the FIFA move, AIFF will lose all membership rights until further notice. <br /><br />"This also means neither the AIFF nor any of its members or officials may benefit from any development programmes, courses or training from FIFA and/or the AFC," the world body said in its detailed statement.<br /><br />Following the ban, the fate of the AIFF elections, to be held on August 28 on the orders of the Supreme is not yet known.<br /><br />The poll process began on August 13 as the top court approved the time-line prepared by the Committee of Administrators (CoA).<br /><br />The CoA has already appointed returning officers and has published the electoral college for the elections, including 36 eminent players in the list. The filing of nominations is to start from Wednesday till Friday.<br /><br />The Supreme Court on August 3 directed the executive committee of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) to expeditiously hold elections as per the schedule proposed by the CoA.<br /><br />India's football fraternity is hoping that a last-minute solution will salvage the FIFA under-17 women's world cup when the Supreme Court hears the matter on Wednesday.<br />

The suspension is effective from August 14, 2022 until further notice, according to a letter from Fatma Samoura, Secretary General, FIFA. This will affect India’s international participation.<br /><br />The troubles began when former AIFF president Praful Patel who was also a FIFA council member, refused to resign from his post as the head of football in the country after his tenure of three years ended in December 2020. FIFA’s Article 19 also states that each member association shall manage its affairs independently and without undue influence from third parties. A member association’s bodies shall be either elected or appointed in that association. The matter then went to the Supreme Court, which announced the immediate resignation of Patel and formed a three-member Committee of Administrators (CoA) to run the AIFF and govern the sport. It appointed Justice (retired) Anil R Dave, former Chief Election Commissioner of India, Dr S.Y. In 2021, Pakistan Football Federation was banned temporarily due to the same violations. The ban was lifted last month. <br /><br />Zimbabwe, Kenya, Chad, Benin, Kuwait, Nigeria and Iraq have also been at the receiving end of FIFA’s wrath.<br /><br /><strong>How will it affect India?<br /></strong><br />Both male and female players won’t be able to participate in international tournaments till the ban is lifted, which includes the 2023 Asian Cup.<br /><br />In June, India’s football team captain Sunil Chhetri said a ban would be “catastrophic” for the country and him.<br /><br />“No matter what is happening on that front, I hope it is under control and the country does not get a ban. Because, that will be catastrophic, not just for the whole country but for me, because I’m 37. I’m playing my last games. You never know when there’s a last game for you,” said Chhetri.<br /><br />Indian professional football club based in Calicut, Gokulam Kerala, has already found itself stranded in Uzbekistan after the FIFA suspension. The team was scheduled to play at the AFC Women's Club Championship.<br /><br />On August 18, SC asked the centre to take a proactive role and ensure that India is able to host the U-17 Women’s World Cup in October.<br /><br />The men’s team is also scheduled to play Singapore and Vietnam in September and India’s participation in SAFF Women's Championship next month also looks uncertain.<br /><br />The suspension has not only dampened the morale of players who have been training for years, but it has also disappointed fans who were looking forward to watching the tournament live. The sport is watched by more than 23 million people, says a recent report by Ormax Media. <br /><br /><strong>Will the suspension be lifted?</strong> <br /><br />The suspension will be lifted once the AIFF administration regains full control of their daily affairs, which means no CoA.<br /><br />FIFA has also told India to form an independent electoral committee. Polling continued till late Saturday evening and then the machines kept coming into the reception centre till late night. They were then sealed inside the strong room. All our officers were busy working through the night, from morning 11 am we started the scrutiny,” Delhi chief electoral officer, Dr. Ranbir Singh told the media. <br /><br />But the delay in voter turnout final numbers had led to endless speculation. Quraishi too kept retweeting tweets about the mismatch in numbers on the voter turnout app after polling had ended.<br /><br />The voter turnout on Saturday was really slow in the morning and picked up only in the late evening. As of 5 pm, the voter turnout stood at 53.51%, according to the official voter turnout app. The voting started at 8 am and ended at 6 pm on February 8. The results will be out on February 11. As many as 1.46 crore are eligible to vote in this assembly election. There are over 672 candidates in the fray. <br /><br />Almost all the exit polls have predicted a comfortable victory for the <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/politics/elections/news/delhi-election-2020-aap-will-win-but-wont-sweep-according-to-exit-poll-data/articleshow/74030428.cms">Aam Aadmi Party government.</a> The exit polls say that <keyword id="6356115" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="AAP">AAP</keyword> could win 48-68 seats out of the 70 seats in Delhi, while the <keyword id="14666" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="BJP">BJP</keyword> could bag 11-19 seats. The minimum seats needed to form a government is 36. <br /><br />The AAP government has tackled various issues close to the middle class like - education, water and power supply and more. The FBI agent noted that he believes the post is referring to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, the leader of the terrorist group ISIS (also known as the Islamic State, ISIL, and Daesh).</p><p>The attack started at about 10:58 a.m. local time, and the Facebook post appeared at 11:14 a.m.</p><p>Authorities have charged 24-year-old Marquez, a former neighbor of the couple, with conspiring to provide material support or resources to terrorists. Marquez is suspected of buying the rifles used in the attack and plotting terrorist attacks with the male shooter, Syed Rizwan Farook, in 2011 and 2012.</p><p>Farook, a US citizen, and Malik, who came to the US from Pakistan to marry Farook, opened fire on the Inland Regional Center, a county facility that provides services to the disabled.</p><p>Investigators reportedly believe that Malik also expressed jihadist sympathies online before she was approved for a US K-1 visa, but those messages were likely <a href="http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-malik-facebook-messages-jihad-20151214-story.html">sent privately to a small group of friends in Pakistan</a>, where authorities believe Malik was radicalized.</p><p>While there isn't clear evidence pointing to ISIS ordering and coordinating the San Bernardino shooting, it appears that Malik and Farook supported the terrorist group and carried out the attack in its name.
