New Delhi: Aviation safety regulator the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (<keyword id="19899185" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="DGCA" source="keywords">DGCA</keyword>) has placed <keyword id="19987725" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="SpiceJet" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="SpiceJet" meta.hostid="83" meta.entityid="SpiceJet">Spicejet</keyword> under '<keyword id="20073402" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="enhanced-surveillance" source="keywords">enhanced surveillance</keyword>' with immediate effect. A senior DGCA official said that based on reports of cancellation of flights and financial stress being experienced by <keyword id="22971642" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="spicejet-airlines" source="keywords">Spicejet Airlines</keyword>, a special audit of Spicejet engineering facilities was conducted on the August 7 and Auugst 8, 2024, which has revealed certain deficiencies. Following a series of occurrences reported on the Spicejet fleet in 2022, a special drive of spot checks was undertaken during which Spicejet was permitted to release aircraft for operations only after confirming to DGCA that all reported defects/malfunctions had been rectified. During the year 2023, based on reports of the airline being under financial stress, it was again placed under enhanced surveillance. In light of the past record and the special audit carried out in August 2024, Spicejet has once again been placed under enhanced surveillance with immediate effect. This would entail an increase in the number of spot checks and night surveillance with a view to ensure safety of operations. According to reports, the airline's passengers were on Thursday barred from checking-in for their flights at Dubai airport over delayed payments. On reports of cancellation of Spicejet flights from Dubai, the airline spokesperson said, "Due to operational reasons, a few SpiceJet flights from Dubai were cancelled. Affected passengers have been accommodated on subsequent SpiceJet flights, on other airlines or provided with a full refund. All our scheduled flights from Dubai are now operating as planned."

As a part of the Memorandum of Understanding (<keyword id="6368586" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="MoU">MoU</keyword>), Brussels Airport would provide assistance to SpiceJet with regards to slots, networking contracts etc. for speedy delivery of vaccines, it noted. "The airline's cargo arm, SpiceXpress, envisions to provide rapid and secure transportation of COVID-19 vaccine from and to Europe and beyond with proper temperature-controlled mechanism under the MoU," the SpiceJet's statement said. As part of this association, Brussels Airport will be SpiceJet's first flight point for Europe, it mentioned. SpiceJet ties up with Brussels Airport for transportation of COVID vaccines to Europe

Mumbai, Feb 19 () No-frills carrier SpiceJet on Wednesday said it will launch 20 new flights on its domestic routes, including some services under the government's regional connectivity scheme, Udan, from late next month as part of the airline's summer schedule. The new flights, starting from March 29, include services to Patna from Amritsar, Varanasi and Guwahati. Besides, it will also launch flights on Hyderabad-Mangaluru, Bengaluru-Jabalpur and Mumbai-Aurangabad routes, all under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS), for the first time on its network, the airline said in a release. The new services will fly daily and will be operated by a mix of Boeing 737-800 and Bombardier Q400 aircraft, it stated. These services will enhance connectivity between key metros and smaller cities, it said. With the commencement of these new flights, the airline will have a total of 52 flights connecting 12 cities under the RCS scheme, SpiceJet said. "We are excited to announce the launch of 20 new domestic flights. As we add newer cities and flights to our network, our focus remains firmly on connecting the unconnected parts of the country besides enhancing connectivity between metros and non-metros," SpiceJet Chief Commercial Officer Shilpa Bhatia was quoted as saying in the release.
