A top health official of <keyword id="68884" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="telangana" source="Orion">Telangana</keyword> has blamed "<keyword id="6484016" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Pani-puri" source="Orion">pani puri</keyword>" for the large number of <keyword id="11950646" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Typhoid" source="Orion">typhoid</keyword> cases being registered across the state. Director of <keyword id="14439087" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="public-health-dr-g-srinivasa-rao" source="Orion">Public Health Dr G. Srinivasa Rao</keyword> on Tuesday said typhoid can be called 'pani puri' <keyword id="6361612" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Disease" source="Orion">disease</keyword>, and advised people to avoid it and other <keyword id="6361952" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Street-Food" source="Orion">street food</keyword> during the current rainy season to protect themselves from typhoid and other seasonal ailments. Referring to the habit of many people who gulp down several pieces of 'pani puri' at the roadside shops, he urged them not to ruin their health. "You may get pani puri for Rs 10-15 but tomorrow, you may end up spending Rs 5,000-10,000," he said. He said vendors should also pay special attention to hygiene and ensure use of safe drinking water. Rao pointed out that this year, more typhoid cases are being reported. During May, 2,700 cases were reported while this number stood at 2,752 during June. Contaminated food, water, and mosquitoes are identified as the main causes for seasonal diseases including malaria, acute diarrheal diseases (ADDs), and viral fevers, which have been reported in the past few weeks. This month alone, 6,000 diarrheal cases were registered across the state. Rao advised people to consume fresh food and boil their drinking water. He said since January, a total of 1,184 dengue cases have been reported in the state. Hyderabad alone accounted for 516 cases. Almost all the districts reported dengue cases. As many as 563 dengue cases were registered in June while in the first 10 days of this month, 222 cases were reported. The state is also reporting malaria cases. He said district medical and health officers have been directed to intensify anti-larval operations. He also urged people to observe every Friday as dry-day to eradicate mosquito menace. Rao also said though the number of Covid-19 cases has gone up during the last six weeks, people should not panic. He stated that Covid has entered an endemic stage, and the symptoms are common cold and fever. He also remarked that Covid has also become a seasonal disease. He said if anybody has Covid like symptoms, he should quarantine himself for five days. There is no need for Covid test if a person has no symptoms. The director of public health said only those Covid patients who have difficulty in breathing should be admitted to hospitals. He also cautioned private hospitals against doing platelet transfusions unnecessarily. India's most popular street food 'pani puri' is causing typhoid in Telangana

Samples collected from a man with suspected symptoms of <keyword id="7616951" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="monkeypox" source="Orion">Monkeypox</keyword> were sent to the <keyword id="6375751" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="national-institute-of-virology" source="Orion">National Institute of Virology</keyword> (<keyword id="50971" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="niv" source="Orion">NIV</keyword>) <keyword id="2094" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="pune" source="Orion">Pune</keyword> on Monday. Five types of samples of the 40-year-old man currently in isolation at <keyword id="177659" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="fever-hospital" source="Orion">Fever Hospital</keyword> in <keyword id="6354552" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="hyderabad" source="Orion">Hyderabad</keyword> were collected and sent to the lab. The samples include swab from throat, blood, urine, from lesions on skin. According to Fever Hospital superintendent <keyword id="14548303" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dr-k-shankar" source="Orion">Dr K. Shankar</keyword>, the results are likely to be available by Tuesday evening He termed the condition of the man as stable. According to him, the patient is restless and has a running fever. "The lesions on his neck, hands and chest are like lesions from Monkeypox. It may also be chickenpox," Dr Shankar said. The samples were collected after the man was shifted from his home town Kamareddy to Hyderabad on Sunday evening. According to officials he arrived in Kamareddy from Kuwait on July 6. He developed fever on July 20 and later when there were rashes on the body, he approached a private hospital in the town. Suspecting it to be a case of Monkeypox, doctors referred him to Kamareddy District Hospital and from there he was sent in an ambulance to Hyderabad on Sunday. Director of Public Health Dr G. Srinivasa Rao said the man's six close contacts were also identified. Though they have no symptoms, the authorities kept them in isolation as a precautionary measure. The health department is also trying to trace those who came into contact with them during the last few days. The director of public health said that people need not panic over Monkeypox as it is not a fatal disease. He said health minister Harish Rao was monitoring the situation and giving them directions. "We are taking all necessary measures," he said. This is the first suspected case of Monkeypox in Telangana. Neighbouring Andhra Pradesh had reported the first suspected case on July 17. A two-year-old child, who had gone to Dubai with family, was found with skin rashes on return. However, the samples sent to NIV, Pune tested negative for Monkeypox. Telangana's health department is also requesting Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad to test the samples from the suspected Monkeypox case. The RT-PCR test would be conducted at the government hospital and if the result is positive, the samples will be sent to NIV, Pune for confirmation. However, the samples from the first suspected case were directly sent to NIV. Fever Hospital in Hyderabad recently set up two isolation wards for Monkeypox cases. One isolation ward each was opened for male and female patients. Superintendent of the hospital said they have arranged for 36 beds and the requisite staff, equipment and medicines. Fever Hospital, as the Sir Ronald Ross Institute for Tropical and Communicable Diseases is popularly known, has been declared a nodal centre for treatment of suspected Monkeypox cases. On Sunday, the first suspected case was admitted. The Fever Hospital had also handled the first few suspected cases of Covid-19 in March, 2020. Samples from Telangana's 1st suspected Monkeypox case sent to NIV

"Based on investigation conducted by SEBI, L Kishore Babu, <keyword id="9503208" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="praveen-lingamneni">Praveen Lingamneni</keyword>, Nagesh Lingamaneni, Sri Lakshmi Lingamaneni, D Srinivasa Rao, Radhika Dronavalli, Gopichand Lingamaneni and Pushpa Latha Devi were identified as "insiders" who had, directly or indirectly, traded in the scrip during the Investigation Period," SEBI said in its order issued on July 1. The market regulator alleged that Divi's, a city-based pharma company had made an announcement on July 10, 2017, during market hours that USFDA would lift import alert 99-32 on the company's unit-II at Visakhapatnam, which was price- sensitive information. Washington, Apr 13 () Mathematical modelling can compute a more realistic picture of the infection rate of the novel coronavirus that causes COVID-19, enabling better prevention and preparation, according to a team led by an Indian-origin researcher. Such models can include information reported about the coronavirus, including the clearly underreported numbers of cases, and factor in knowns like the density and age distribution of the population in an area, the researchers wrote in the journal Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology. "Actual pandemic preparedness depends on true cases in the population whether or not they have been identified," said Arni S.R. Srinivasa Rao from Augusta University in the US. "With better numbers we can better assess how long the virus will persist and how bad it will get. Without these numbers, how can health care systems and workers prepare for what is needed?" Rao said. Better numbers also are critical to better protecting the population and overall pandemic preparedness, according to Rao and his colleague Steven G. Krantz, professor at Washington University in the US. "We wanted to provide info on the real magnitude of the problem, not just the tip of the iceberg," Rao said. The researchers used their mathematical model, which takes COVID-19 numbers from sources like the World Health Organization. They then used factors like an area's population density, proportion of population living in urban areas where people tend to live in closer proximity, and populations in three age groups -- zero to 14, 15 to 64, and over 65 -- to grow more accurate numbers. Because this virus is so infectious, they also considered "transmission probability," Rao said. The researchers also looked at the number of new cases daily above 10 and up to the first reported peak, and the date ranges for those peaks as an indicator of the trend in reported case numbers. Emerging information about how long the virus survives on a variety of surfaces and in the air will further refine their model, Rao said. They found, for example, that Italy did a comparatively good job of reporting early on, with 1 case reported for every four cases that Rao and Krantz projected by the cutoff date of March 9. That means about 30,223 cases were not reported, according to their model, and Rao noted that Italy had not reached its peak by their March 9 study deadline. With such a small percentage of people actually being tested in all countries, particularly at that time, South Korea also was reporting one case for about every four likely cases, the researchers said. Spain was reporting 1 case for about every 53 likely actual cases, based on the mathematical model. That translates to about 87,405 cases and people not reported, they said. The two modelers saw some of the higher numbers they projected actually playing out within a week of their study's conclusion in several of these European countries, Rao said. In China, with its huge population numbers at more than 1.4 billion and widely perceived inconsistencies in data reporting, they projected two ranges for the number reported compared to the actual number of cases. The modelers visualised the disparities between reported cases and what they projected with a Meyer wavelet, which as the name implies goes up, peaks, and then recedes like a wave. In this case the higher the wave, the higher the underreporting, and lowering the wave means improved reporting, Rao said, of the consistent oscillations generated. If reported numbers were more precise, mathematical models wouldn't be needed, he said, noting that underreporting is a problem for many conditions, not just COVID-19, including common, noninfectious problems like heart disease. "A model tells us something which has not been directly observed. It's a biological experiment done on computers rather than in a lab," he said. Rao notes the accuracy of reported cases likely has improved since March 9 with the slowly increased availability of testing, and that the earlier the testing, the earlier the actual peaking of infections. He encourages everyone to continue to use steps like social isolation and self-quarantine to protect themselves and others by helping fight continued spread of the virulent virus. SARSAR
