<ul><li>Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has announced a second salary hike for its employees within a span of six months.</li><li>Last year in October, the IT major increased salaries by 6% to 8%.</li><li>This time around the company plant to hike wages by the same amount resulting in a cumulative boost of 12% to 14%.</li></ul>India’s biggest information technology (IT) services company, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), is set to dole out a second round of increments for its employees within a span of six months. The last salary hike was announced by the IT major in October last year, where the increase in wages was between 6% to 8%. Sources told Business Insider, on the condition of anonymity, that the salary increments will be around the same this time around as well. This means employees will have received a cumulative boost of around 12% to 14%. “We can confirm that we are on track to give increments to all associates across our geographies effective April 2021, in line with our benchmarks,” a TCS spokesperson told Business Insider. This comes after TCS’ attrition rate dropped to a record low of 7.6%, as of 31 December 2020. The company currently has 4,69,261 employees under its wing after adding 15,000 more to its roster between the months of September to December. According to Milind Lakkad, head of human resources at TCS, over 96% of the company’s employees were still working from home before the New Year with only 3.4% in office. Despite the challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, TCS reported its strongest Q3 growth in nine years in 2020. TCS to dole out a second salary hike within a span six months

The annual remuneration includes salary, cash incentives, allowances and the company’s provident fund component. TCS is running on women power, with over 150,000 permanent employees

Matching the IT industry standards, India's third largest <keyword id="142326" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="software-exporter">software exporter</keyword> Wipro announced average salary hike of 7%. The hike is in line with its rivals <keyword id="6357585" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Tata-Consultancy-Services">Tata Consultancy Services</keyword> (<keyword id="6357150" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="TCS">TCS</keyword>) and <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword>' announcements earlier this year. 
 

	TCS announced average salary hike of about 8% for its employees in India, while India’s second largest software exporter Infosys rolled out average wage increase of 6.5% in March, reports the Economic Times. "The <keyword id="102005" type="COMPANY" weightage="80" keywordseo="Wipro-Ltd-">Wipro Ltd.</keyword> has announced a salary increase for eligible employees, effective June 1, 2015. The average salary hike would be 7% for offshore employees and 2% for onsite employees, respectively, with high performers being rewarded with substantially higher increases in their compensation," said Saurabh Govil, global head - Human Resources, Wipro Limited. 
	 

	Wipro also raised the fixed pay salary component at the junior and mid-management levels. The <keyword id="6368235" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="IT-services">IT services</keyword> segment of Wipro has a headcount of 158,217, as of March 31, 2015. 
	 

	The company said, earlier, that it would give double-digit salary hikes to top performers. 
	 

	According to experts, employees in the IT sector are expected to get a 8%-10% average salary hike this year, but a top performer who has the right mix of technology and domain skills can expect more than double the average hike, going up to about 25% or even higher in some cases.

Wipro announces average salary hike of 7%

The <keyword id="46964" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="IT-sector">IT sector</keyword> in India is considered among the most undiscriminating sectors when it comes to gender. But the reality is that the salary difference between men and women is almost one-third. 
 According to industry body <keyword id="6372077" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Nasscom">Nasscom</keyword>, this is because fewer women get promoted to supervisory roles. Typically, a male employee earns a gross salary of Rs 359.25 an hour, whereas a female employee earns only Rs 254.04. With more number of career breaks in their job profile, the negotiating capacity of women in the labour market declines, as per the ‘Monster Salary Index India IT Sector Report 2014,’ The report was released at the Nasscom HR Summit, 2014, in Chennai. 
 
"The information is factual but that does not mean that there is a disparity," said Nasscom president R Chandrasekhar. He said the IT sector had 65% of women at the entry level, while the mid-management and senior management had 27% and 9%, respectively. 
 
Chandrasekhar also pointed women find it harder to accumulate tenure due to family obligations. "Women are paid equally when they come back, but due to the break, their bargaining power is less at times." 
 Tata Consultancy Services, one of the largest recruiters in the country, said it does not discriminate on the basis of gender. "<keyword id="6357150" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="TCS">TCS</keyword> is an equal opportunity employer. As per the Tata code of conduct, we do not discriminate on the basis of gender, religion, ethnicity and culture," said a TCS spokesperson. Around 32.7% of the employees at TCS are women. 
 
Sucharita Palepu, the global head of people policies and practices at Tech Mahindra, said, "Tech Mahindra's compensation philosophy is to pay for 3 Ps - Position, Person (based on qualifications, experience and skills) and Performance and this philosophy is applied uniformly to associates from both genders." she said.

This is also a reflection of the number of people who have been quitting, as its attrition rate hit the highest at 19.7% — that’s more than double of what it was in the same quarter last year. However, the company said it is on track to achieve its FY23 fresher hiring target. TCS said that its workforce is diverse, comprising 153 nationalities and with women making up 35.5% of the base. It also claims to invest in organic talent development. “In the first quarter, TCSers clocked 12 million learning hours, resulting in the acquisition of 1.7 million competencies,” the company said in a press release. It also accelerated its ‘return to office’ programme in Q1, with about 20% of the workforce now working from the office. Tata Consultancy Services or TCS posted a 5% growth in net profits in the first quarter of FY23 at ₹9,478 crore; but its net profits fell by 5% on a quarterly basis – as it was hit by increased costs most of which was employee benefits. TCS crosses the 6 lakh employee milestone even as 1 in 5 quit in the first quarter

TCS is hiring graduates and postgraduates for an annual salary package of up to ₹7.3 lakh

<keyword id="6357585" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-consultancy-services">Tata Consultancy Services</keyword> CEO and <keyword id="6696063" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="md-rajesh-gopinathan">MD Rajesh Gopinathan</keyword> took home a pay package of about ₹20.36 crore in 2020-21, according to the company's annual report. In 2019-20, Gopinathan had received a total remuneration of ₹ 13.3 crore. According to TCS' annual report for 2020-21, Gopinathan received ₹ 1.27 crore in salary, ₹2.09 crore in benefits, perquisites and allowances, and ₹ 17 crore in commission. TCS Chief Operating Officer N Ganapathy Subramaniam drew a pay package of about ₹16.1 crore in the last financial year. This includes ₹1.21 crore in salary, ₹1.88 crore in benefits, perquisites and allowances, and ₹13 crore in commission. The increase in the managerial remuneration for the year was 55.22 per cent, the report said. "Increase in the managerial remuneration for FY2021 is not comparable with FY2020 owing to decrease in remuneration of 15 per cent in FY2020 in view of the economic conditions impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic wherein the Directors had decided to moderate the executive remuneration for FY2020 to express solidarity and conserve resources," it added. The average annual increase in salaries was 5.2 per cent in India. However, during the course of the year, the total increase is approximately 6.4 per cent, after accounting for promotions and other event-based compensation revisions. Employees outside India received a wage increase varying from 2 to 6 per cent, the report said. The increase in remuneration is in line with the market trends in the respective countries, it added. The report said the percentage increase in the median remuneration of employees in FY2021 was 0.03 per cent. TCS' permanent employee base was at 4,48,649 at the end of 2020-21 fiscal year. The 26th Annual General Meeting of the Mumbai-based company will be held virtually on June 10, 2021. TCS Chairman N Chandrasekaran said the company sees immense opportunities for growth, riding the new technology cycle that has kicked off, powered by the belief that its differentiated capabilities and collaborative, solution-centric approach makes it the preferred transformation partner of its customers. "It is building on that belief, and investing in sharpening the capabilities needed to expand its footprint in this large opportunity," he said in his letter to the shareholders. Despite a sharp fall in revenues in the first quarter, TCS made a swift recovery during the rest of the year and clocked full year revenues of ₹ 164,177 crore in FY2021. Most analysts believe March is a seasonally weak quarter for IT companies and they expect moderate earnings growth amid margin pressures. The profit margins of IT companies are expected to be under pressure because of increase in employee salaries and record hiring. “Sequential growth for Indian IT will be moderate in March 2022 quarter and in line with historical seasonal trends. Margins will remain under pressure resulting from elevated wage increases, onsite as well as offshore,” said Kotak Institutional Equities. The entire IT sector is struggling to retain employees including top five companies. Nonetheless, we believe double-digit growth is feasible for many,” said a report by Kotak Institutional Equities. Higher employee cost and shortage of skilled talent will remain the key challenges in the short term for IT companies. Profit margins of IT companies must be under pressure for January-March quarter due to record hiring and salary hikes

India's largest software services company <keyword id="6357585" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Consultancy-Services">Tata Consultancy Services</keyword> (<keyword id="6357150" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="TCS">TCS</keyword>) has 91 employees in India who got paid more than Rs 1 crore in form of salaries in fiscal 2017, a number significantly higher than rivals <keyword id="6354512" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Infosys">Infosys</keyword> and <keyword id="10862" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Wipro">Wipro</keyword>. Out of these, 22 employees have spent their entire careers at the TCS. In comparison, Infosys has 51 executives who take home more than Rs 1 crore per annum, out of which about 16% started their careers with the Bengaluru-headquartered company. Wipro, on the other hand, has 61 such employees, out of which about 27% have been with it throughout their careers. "TCS is much bigger than Infosys or Wipro, and executive stability has been a defining factor for the company," an analyst with a Mumbai-brokerage told <a href="http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/tech/ites/tcs-way-ahead-of-of-the-field-in-race-of-crorepati-executives/articleshow/59673309.cms">ET</a>, requesting anonymity. "They also tend to promote from within. It is rare for an executive to come in from outside," he added. TCS employees who are stationed outside India could be earning significantly more because of being compensated in foreign currencies. These include Surya Kant, who runs TCS' North America, UK and Europe operations and <keyword id="4787917" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="amur-lakshminarayanan">Amur Lakshminarayanan</keyword>, who oversees its Japan business.
