There have been examples in the past where governors have served for a longer period like that of E S L Narasimhan, who served continuously for 12 years in Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh (undivided) and later in Telangana. Roy, who would turn 75 next month, had stoked a controversy last year when he supported a tweet by a retired army official calling for banning of Kashmiri goods in the aftermath of an attack on the CRPF convoy that killed 40 security personnel. As the news of the new appointment reached Shillong, Roy tweeted, "Upon receipt of news from Rashtrapati Bhavan I spoke to Shri Satyapal Malikji, the new Governor-Designate and welcomed him to Shillong. It may take him a little time to come here." "I was supposed to have been relieved on 20th May. Now the end of the road is in sight!" he said. Roy was appointed governor of Meghalaya in August 2018 and continued till date, barring absence between December 2019 to January 2020 when he was on leave. Malik (73) was the last governor of erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir before it was divided into two union territories -- Ladakh and JK-- on October 31 last year. The announcement in this regard was made on August 5 last year when the Centre abrogated the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. Satya Pal Malik becomes the new Governor of Meghalaya

The Prime Minister on Sunday reprimanded his party members for making inappropriate and inaccurate statements every time they see a camera. In an address telecast on his personal NaMo application, <keyword id="6354477" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Narendra-Modi">Narendra Modi</keyword> <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/politics-and-nation/pm-modi-warns-bjp-legislators-against-making-out-of-turn-statements/articleshow/63869881.cms" data-type="tilCustomLink">told</a> his party motormouths, “We make mistakes and give 'masala' to the media... as if we are great social scientists and experts to analyse issues... the moment you see a camera you start speaking. So this half-baked stuff is picked up." He also mandated that only designated spokespersons of the party will comment on issues as and when necessary. This slap on the wrist came a day after Union minister <keyword id="6344967" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="santosh-ganwar">Santosh Ganwar</keyword>’s controversial statement that “In a nation as big as India, one or two incidents of rape should not be hyped.” This comment was quick to draw criticism and he, in turn, blamed the media for ‘twist(ing)’ his statement. It is virtually impossible to conceive of devices like ‘Divya drishti’, Pushpaka Ratha’, etc without some kind of prototype and study thereon”. </li><li>Junior Education Minister Satyapal Singh rubbishes Darwin’s theory of evolution. Here’s what he had to <a href="https://www.ndtv.com/india-news/junior-education-minister-satyapal-singh-says-charles-darwin-wrong-nobody-saw-ape-turn-into-human-1802617">say</a>: "Darwin's theory (of evolution of humans) is scientifically wrong. The rest of the post read: “I feel pity while looking at that woman journalist. She claims she was disturbed because the governor touched her. But when you read her tweets, it is understood that her intention was to target the Governor and Modi. It is actually the governor who has to wash his hands with Phenoyl after touching her. These (TN media persons) are cheap and disgusting creatures. Most people who work in the media in TN are usually Illiterate, cheap and don’t have any general knowledge. This woman is not any different.” </li><li>BJP MP <keyword id="6462806" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vinay-Katiyar">Vinay Katiyar</keyword> believes Muslims have "no business" to be in India. 5 times BJP ministers gave "masala" to the media

A majority of the Lok Sabha election 2019 predictions say the TMC candidates will win from Kolkata Uttar and also Kolkata Dakshin constituencies. At present Subatra Bakshi and Sudip Bandyopadhyay are the sitting MPs from Kolkata Dakshin and Kolkata Uttar constituencies respectively. Both of them contested in 2014 elections in AITC tickets. AITC finds these two constituencies a stronghold for its Lok Sabha seats. During 2014 elections, Subatra Bakshi of AITC won from Kolkata Dakshin constituency with a margin of 1,36,339 against the BJP candidate Tathagata Roy. His vote share was 36.95%. The election result 2014 for the Lok Sabha was favorable to Sudip Bandyopadhyay of AITC who secured 343,687 votes with a vote share of 35.95% while Rahul (Biswajit) Sinha of BJP was the runner with 247,461 votes which marked a 25.88% vote share. The key candidates from Kolkata Dakshin constituency are Mala Roy of TMC, Mita Chakraborty representing the Congress, Nandini Mukherjee nominated by the CPI (M) and Chandra Kumar Bose fighting for the BJP. The key candidates for Kolkata Uttar constituency are Rahul Sinha representing the BJP, Syed Shahid Imam contesting on behalf of the Congress, Sudip Bandyopadhyay representing the AITC and Kaninika Bose nominated by the CPI (M). As per the statistics available with the Chief Election Commissioner of West Bengal, the total number of electors in Kolkata Uttar Lok Sabha seat is 1,443,818 consisting of 794,275 males and 649,528 females besides 15 third gender voters. Kolkata Dakshin Lok Sabha constituency has a total number of 1,505,638 voters made of 821,490 males and 684,148 females. The voter turnout during 2019 Lok Sabha elections is recorded at 67.09% for Kolkata Dakshin and 61.18% for Kolkata Uttar seats. The voter turnout during 2014 elections for these constituencies was 69.30% for Kolkata Dakshin and 66.65% for Kolkata Uttar constituencies.
