Of the total, 86.05 per cent boys and 93.40 per cent girls cleared the exam. For Class 12, the number of candidates was 24,52,830 (24.52 lakh) -- 13,41,356 (13.41 lakh) boys and 11,11,474 (11.11 lakh) girls, Dev said. The pass percentage was 77.78 for boys and 88.42 for girls.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared the Class X results on Monday. Passing percentage has increased by 0.48 per cent since last year. 25724 schools gave the CBSE class X examinations at 7603 centres. The Trivandrum region registered the highest pass percentage at 99.75 per cent whereas the lowest has been recorded at Guwahati which stood at 77.94 per cent. In the overall Delhi region, a 98.61 per cent pass percentage was recorded. 94.75 per cent of Girls passed the exam whereas 92.71 per cent of boys passed the exam with the Girls outshining boys by 2.04 per cent. Students who sat for the CBSE Class 10 board exams nationwide can view their mark sheets on the <keyword id="21637011" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="CBSE-official-website" source="keywords">CBSE official website</keyword>, cbse.gov.in. CBSE Class 10 board exam results declared

Last year, the total pass percentage was 87.33 per cent. Officials said 91.52 per cent girls cleared the <keyword id="19957604" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="exam" source="keywords">exam</keyword>, 6.40 percentage points higher than boys' pass percentage. "A total of 24,068 students have scored above 95 per cent marks while 1,16,145 students have scored above 90 per cent," an official said. More than 1.22 lakh candidates have been placed in 'compartment'. The number this year is slightly less than that of last year, the officials said. This time, more than 16.21 lakh candidates appeared for the exam which was conducted at 7,126 centres. CBSE Class 12 results: 87.98% students pass exams, girls outshine boys

Over 65 lakh students did not pass <keyword id="19951608" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="class-10" source="keywords">class 10</keyword> and 12 <keyword id="19954615" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="board-exams" source="keywords">board exams</keyword> across the country last year with the failure rate being higher in <keyword id="22866974" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="state-boards" source="keywords">state boards</keyword> than the central board, according to Ministry of Education (<keyword id="20349630" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="MoE" source="keywords">MoE</keyword>) officials. An analysis of class 10 and 12 results of 59 school boards, including 56 state boards and three national boards, revealed that more girls appeared in class 12 exam from government-managed schools but it is opposite in private schools and government-aided schools. "Around 33.5 lakh students of class 10 are not reaching next grade. While 5.5 lakh candidates did not appear, 28 lakh failed. This is one of the cause for low retention rate and Gross Enrolment Ration (GER) at higher secondary level," a senior MoE official said. Similarly, around 32.4 lakh class 12 students did not complete the grade. While 5.2 lakh did not appear, 27.2 lakh failed. In class 10, the student failure rate in central board stood at 6 per cent while that of state boards was much higher at 16 per cent. In class 12, the failure rate at central board is 12 per cent while that of state boards is 18 per cent. The ministry officials noted that the open school performance was poor in both the classes. The highest number of student failure in class 10 was in Madhya Pradesh board followed by Bihar and UP. While in class 12, the highest student failure was reported from Uttar Pradesh followed by Madhya Pradesh. "Overall performance of students in 2023 declined in comparison with previous year. This could be due to larger syllabus for examination," the official said. More girls appeared for class 10 and 12 board exams from government schools than boys. "This may reflect gender bias while spending on education by parents. However, girls dominates in pass performance across government, aided and private schools," the official said. During this time, she woke up at 4 a.m. and studied for at least 10-12 hours each day.Some prefer to take an easier route.The Journal found that several students had paid $15,000-20,000 to illegally look at the question paper before the exam. BI could not independently verify the figures.The police made multiple arrests related to exam cheating after results showed that 67 people received perfect scores in the NEET exams this year."Question papers are sold at extravagantly high prices," Ashok Rathore, a police officer who investigated cheating linked to India's medical school exam, told the Journal. "It's a nexus of desperate students, parents, tuition centers and printing presses."<h2 id="378edaf6-be36-458e-8847-661e66638c81">Leaked questions</h2>One student told BI that several Telegram channels dedicated to exam prep saw messages encouraging students "struggling with exams and don't have time for studies" to get in touch for "help.""My friend said he was asked to pay around 15,000 rupees ($180) to enter the private channel where they shared the questions," she said.BI reached out to the Telegram account offering "help". The person said they can provide next year's medical entrance exam questions for around 1 lakh rupees ($1,200).High ranks in these exams mean coveted "seats" in medical colleges operated by the state and national governments. Those with money can still legally obtain places in private medical colleges if they pay fees ranging from $115,000 to $145,000.However, some students with the financial capacity prefer cheating and getting a government seat instead."It makes very good economic sense," a senior medical advisor with knowledge of the matter told BI. "The question paper will be given for about 25 lakh rupees (around $29,000). For that much, they get a free seat in a government college where they only have to pay around 16,000 rupees ($190) per annum.""For the entire five-year degree, that still only comes to around one lakh rupees ($1191), so of course rich students would rather do that instead of paying their way into private medical schools."<h2 id="4ff61c3d-756d-47c9-8f47-2f6be9f1f6a0">Earning a 'merit' seat</h2>The advisor — who preferred to remain anonymous but whose identity is known to BI — also said there is a significant amount of respect that comes with having "earned" a merit seat instead of paying their way into a private "management" seat."Unfortunately, there are very few objective metrics that people have as outsiders to judge the competence of their doctors, especially at a time when everybody in India sits with an MBBS board outside their clinic," agreed Asish George, a doctor who cleared the entrance exam in 2014."For those people, the fact that someone cracked a highly competitive entrance exam and got in would inspire more confidence than someone who paid their way through the whole thing."According to the Journal, authorities in India have tried to install video cameras inside exam halls and increased their monitoring of social media to catch cheaters. India's exam system is in chaos, with some families paying thousands to help their kids cheat

Over 58 lakh candidates have registered for the UP Board 2023 examinations which will begin from February 16. Of these 31.2 lakh students are for Class 10 and 27.5 lakh students are for Class 12. The examinations will be held at 8,752 centres across 75 districts in Uttar Pradesh. According to the timetable for 2023 examinations released by secretary, UP Secondary Education Board, Divyakant Shukla, the Class 10 examinations will be held in 13 working days and will end on March 3. The Class 12 examinations will be held in 14 working days and will end on March 4. For the first time, UP Board examinees will get stitched answer sheets. The move is aimed at preventing the copy mafia from changing answer sheets of meritorious students because in the previous years there were complaints of changing copies by removing staples. Also, answer sheets given to the students will have barcodes and monograms on them. The initiatives are being taken with an aim to eliminate the scope of manipulation of answer sheets. The Board will also conduct random checks of some answer sheets using the barcodes which will further put a noose around those involved in copying. The company had to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-recalls-cybertrucks-accelerator-fault-pad-pedal-electric-vehicle-truck-2024-4">recall every single Cybertruck</a> it shipped. And Tesla's position in China, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/china-electric-cars-ev-elon-musk-tesla-byd-price-war-2024-4">a country that has become critical</a> to its future, is getting shakier.There's only one person to blame for the company's shambolic state and only one person whose exit could save Tesla: <keyword id="19903807" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Elon-Musk" source="keywords">Elon Musk</keyword>. Gross profit fell 18% from the same time a year ago, and gross margins fell from 19.3% to 17.4% over the same period. If Tesla the company were a car, this is when you start to hear it make a rattling sound.The company's problem isn't a matter of getting through "<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-podcast-workers-model-3-production-hell-sewage-sleeping-floor-2023-8">production hell</a>" or "delivery hell" on a new model, which Tesla has been able to survive. Hell is, at the very least, a location. Tesla's problem is that it has no clear direction. Given this clear signal from investors, the company pivoted and announced in its earnings release that it planned to speed up production of "<a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/cheaper-teslas-arriving-sooner-than-planned-2024-4">new and more affordable products</a>" to early 2025. Wall Street ate this up: in spite of the miserable results, Tesla's stock has gained nearly 20% since the earnings announcement and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-investors-cheaper-cars-soon-musk-said-earnings-stock-up-2024-4">analysts were falling over themselves</a> to praise the news. It's like people have never seen this play from Musk before, but anyone who's been following Tesla knows we have.Musk is notorious for delivering so late that <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-cybertruck-release-date-delivery-delay-signs-2023-9">any sort of timelines</a> are to be <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-roadster">taken with a grain of salt</a>. Even Musk's most loyal shareholders — like Ross Gerber of investment firm Gerber Kawasaki — were dubious. In an interview with Bloomberg on Tuesday after Tesla's report, Gerber said that he "can't rely" on what the company says about timelines anymore. In the company's post-earnings conference call, Musk only mentioned vague plans for speeding up the production process and spent more time talking about his far-off vision for an Uber-like robotaxi fleet."I'd say at least eight to nine years before they get a robotaxi working," Tu Le, the founder of the electric-vehicle consultancy Sino Auto Insights, told me in a recent interview. "I think they'd argue that they already made it. But I'm thinking about the best-case scenario. And I'm being very optimistic.Being late wasn't a problem when Tesla was the only company making good EVs, but that's not the case anymore. Musk does not have eight or nine years to save Tesla, and making vague promises to deliver a new car that the market actually wants — while appealing to Wall Street — does not relieve the pressures the company is facing now. On one side of the world, competitors in China can make <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-waging-price-war-against-chinese-rivals-2024-4">cars at a much lower cost</a>. If the Chinese market is a rock, then Western markets are a hard place. Tesla is caught in between. The company needs a serious leader with practical ideas — no self-driving gimmicks, no blowtorches, no broken Cybertrucks, no shitposting, no video-game marathons, and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/psychedelics-work-microdosing-lsd-psilocybin-ketamine-retreats-elon-musk-2024-3">no casual ketamine use</a>. Basically, no Elon. It needs a singularly focused, ruthlessly productive leader who can deliver the Model 2 — without copious delays.On Tuesday, Musk addressed the recent round of layoffs by saying that Tesla needed to restructure itself for a "new phase of growth." He's right about that, the carmaker does need a major shake-up — starting with him.The future did not have to look this ugly for Tesla. In 2020, the company was on top of the world. Its <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-tesla-china-gigafactory-shanghai-fremont-california-factory-2021-10">Shanghai plant started cranking out</a> lower-cost, higher-margin cars. It was <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-germany-gigafactory-final-approval-2022-3">building a plant in Germany</a> and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-elon-musk-gigafactory-texas-cyber-rodeo-2022-4">another one in Texas</a>. It <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-delivery-record-q2-annual-sales-2021-7">sold more cars</a> than ever before. Consistent annual profits led to a <a target="_blank" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/tesla-market-cap-500-billion-stock-price-rally-elon-musk-2020-11-1029835478">glorious stock market rally</a>, and Wall Street rejoiced.What did Musk do with those glory days? He <a target="_blank" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/elon-musk-sell-tesla-stock-buy-twitter-deal-net-worth-2023-4">sold a bunch of his Tesla stock</a> to buy Twitter, tried to <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/twitter-to-take-elon-musk-court-fight-close-deal-2022-7">get out of the deal</a>, and then was forced to go through with it. He <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/spacex-starship-launch-rocket-blows-up-explosion-elon-musk-mars-2023-11">blew up some rockets</a> (to be fair, some also made it to space). He <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-neuralink-monkeys-live-in-paradise-denies-gruesome-deaths-2023-11">implanted a brain chip</a> into a bunch of monkeys. He brought a kitchen sink to work and added a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-twitter-tesla-ceo-job-broken-chief-hypocrisy-officer-2022-11">few more CEO jobs to his plate</a>. He publicly bungled Gov. Ron DeSantis' attempt to launch a presidential campaign. At Tesla, Musk delivered about 4,000 Cybertrucks — every one of which has been recalled for faulty acceleration — while frittering away any goodwill the company has with its core customers.What I'm saying is that as much as Tesla accomplished in the past few years, it's clear Musk should've spent more time with it. Tesla failed to craft a strategy for chaotic times in what is still clearly a nascent EV industry. Sure, the company has been on a multiyear campaign to get lean and cut costs, but that strategy isn't enough to balance out price cuts, weak demand, and the need for major capital expenditures to get through this period of fleet stagnation. A true visionary CEO — which Musk has long claimed to be — would have pressed the advantage that Tesla developed in the EV market. They would've done research to try to understand what EV demand would look like after early adopters bought cars. They'd know what kinds of buyers would enter the market at that stage and which kinds of cars those buyers would want. A true visionary CEO would meet those customers where they are. Back in November, I spoke with Navdeep Sodhi, a pricing analyst at Sodhi Pricing Associates, who told me that <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-tesla-price-cuts-electric-cars-losing-business-strategy-2023-11">Tesla should advertise</a> to educate the public about the cost benefits of its cars, like savings on gas. Advertising could have also helped assuage concerns about issues like range anxiety. This month, <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-new-marketing-team-advertising-cut-layoffs-2024-4">Tesla laid off its entire marketing team</a>.For years analysts warned Musk that competition was coming, not just from legacy automakers but from the very Chinese market that fostered Tesla's success. Beijing has a pattern of supporting Western companies in China's markets in order to foster competition, then, once China-based rivals are able to catch up, tipping the scales in favor of homegrown companies. Add in the fact that Beijing has cornered nearly every aspect of the battery supply chain — from mining and refining metals to manufacturing the batteries themselves — which has helped China's EV makers to churn out models at price points as low as four figures. The new options have put Tesla on the back foot in one of its most important markets: <a target="_blank" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/stocks/tesla-stock-vehicle-model-y-price-cuts-tsla-elon-musk-2024-4">Tesla's share of China's car market shrank</a> to 6.7% in the fourth quarter of 2023 from 10.3% at the beginning of the year.To maintain its lead, Tesla should have been singularly focused on building the Model 2 — moving down the pricing scale to where there were more customers. But it stopped innovating, the Model 2 hasn't materialized, and Musk's realization that the company needs to actually deliver on a Tesla-for-the-people may be coming too late. Instead of boosting sales with an impressive or accessible new option, Tesla has tried to goose demand by <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-slashes-prices-suv-cars-self-driving-software-before-earnings-2024-4">erratically lowering the prices</a> of its existing models to increase volume. This has not worked as planned: automotive revenue fell 13% from the same time last year, according to Tuesday's earnings release, and gross margins in the automotive division fell to 14.8% from 18% a year before.Tesla has always been a "growth" company, the up-and-coming player taking on the legacy automakers. But now the company has entered a new stage of development — it's a large, mature firm, and continuing to grow requires larger amounts of capital, discipline, and focus. There was never a moment for Musk to rest on his laurels, but after 2020 Tesla started to look less like a place where Musk was constantly innovating and more like a place where Musk sourced cash to do whatever else he wanted with his life. Maybe he got bored, or maybe he got distracted — either way, Musk stopped pushing the envelope at Tesla way too early.During the conference call, Musk had a million excuses for why this quarter was so poor — Houthi agitation in the Red Sea, an arson in Berlin, updates at the Fremont Factory. He asserted that Tesla was not a car company but rather an AI robotics company. He spoke ad nauseam about turning Tesla into a self-driving Uber service but refused to answer any questions about the Model 2. Look over here. Look over there. Pay no attention to exactly how we're going to deliver his cheaper car. Wall Street has fallen for this before, and it's becoming embarrassing that it has fallen for it again — especially at a time when Tesla and the EV market are in such a different position. The gestures toward actually producing the Model 2 drove a post-earnings stock pop, but given Musk's years of distraction and myriad projects, shareholders should be more concerned that he may fritter away Tesla's resources on something else — whether that's <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/elon-musk-xai-luring-more-investors-spv-high-fees">an AI that can copy his voice</a>, turning X into a dating app for libertarians, or building another vanity clown car. If the Model 2 doesn't come ASAP, it's tantamount to Tesla waving the white flag in the global EV wars for the foreseeable future. Forget growth — now the company that should have been America's EV juggernaut needs to figure out survival.When Musk entered the EV Thunderdome, Tesla was the only game in town, interest rates were at 0%, and most of the country was convinced he was Iron Man. Since then, China has become an EV power player, legacy automakers have been trying to get a cut of the action, debt has become more expensive, and half the country has started to think Musk is Lex Luthor. Tamil Nadu Class 12 results declared: State records 94.03 pass per cent, Kanyakumari tops list

Sixty-five impersonators held during UP board exams

New Delhi [India], June 23 (ANI): The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare postponed the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Postgraduate (<keyword id="6361994" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="NEET" source="Orion">NEET</keyword> PG) Examination on Saturday, which was scheduled to be held on Sunday, and said that a fresh date will be announced at the earliest. The NEET-PG exams were scheduled to be held on June 23. "Taking into consideration, the recent incidents of allegations regarding the integrity of certain competitive examinations, the Ministry of Health has decided to undertake a thorough assessment of the robustness of the processes of the NEET-PG Entrance Examination, conducted by the National Board of Examination for medical students," the ministry statement read. "It has accordingly been decided, as a precautionary measure, to postpone the NEET-PG Entrance Examination, scheduled to be held on 23rd June, 2024. The fresh date of this examination will be notified at the earliest," the ministry added. "The Ministry of Health sincerely regrets the inconvenience caused to the students. This decision has been taken in the best interests of the students and to maintain the sanctity of the examination process," the health ministry said. The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) was fully prepared to conduct the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) Post-Graduate (PG) 2024. Speaking exclusively to ANI, Dr Rakesh Sharma, OSD to President and Member, Governing Body, NBEMS said, "All eyes of the nation are on NBEMS for the conduct of NEET PG 2024 and we will not let down the hope of the nation. We will conduct the test through a computer-based test (CBT) mode throughout the country." On Standard Operating Procedure (SOPs) for successfully delivering and maintaining transparency, he said, "NBEMS has robust SOPs for conducting exams because of which NBEMS has been successfully delivering the exams year after year. These SOPs are stringently followed. NBEMS has worked very hard on maintaining the secrecy of the question paper and there is no chance that there will be any leakage of the question paper." He further said that NBEMS is supported by medical colleges, faculty, MoHFW, Flying Squads, Deans and Principals, Vice-chancellor and other agencies, "NBEMS has support from various medical colleges, faculty, MoHFW and other agencies. NBEMS has already briefed the chief secretaries and DGP of all states for safe and secure conduct of the exam." "In order to ensure transparent, smooth and fair conduct of examinations through the National Testing Agency (NTA), Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education constituted a High-Level Committee of Experts to make recommendations on Reform in mechanism of examination process improvement in data security protocols and the structure and functioning of National Testing Agency," the ministry said.

Buybacks taxed as dividend Starting October 1, 2024, the amount received by the shareholder on buyback of his/her shares by the company will be treated as dividend income, and will be taxable at the hands of shareholders. Also, the cost incurred by the investor to acquire those shares will not be allowed as a deduction against the income, but can be set off as a capital loss, only against other <keyword id="20619608" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="capital-gains" source="keywords">capital gains</keyword>, for a maximum of 8 subsequent years Malhotra explained the government's rationale behind this proviso, noting that buyback does not fundamentally alter the company's capital structure, and like dividend distribution, is a way for the company to give out its surplus. Moreover, it is up to the investor, whether or not they want to participate in a buyback or not. Hence, going ahead, funds from buyback will be deemed as dividend income. Credit on TCS paid Previously, in case your employer has already deducted TCS (tax collected at source) from your monthly salary, it would not be accounted for, or considered while calculating your annual tax liability. As a result, it had to be claimed back separately as a refund, resulting in duplication of processes. However, effective April 1, 2025, salaried employees will be able to adjust the TCS they've already, previously paid while calculating their tax due. The Old tax regime heading towards a sunset? While the officials have given no clarity on this, they noted that the idea of taxation is not to push people into investing, saving or buying insurance for the sole purpose of saving taxes as the old regime did. "It is a moral debate on whether tax regimes are supposed to push people towards financial planning measures like buying health or life insurances. However, as we go ahead, the focus will entirely on greater, more deep-rooted focus on how tax filing and compliance can be simplified and transformed into a hassle-free, smooth process. The new tax regime was finding increased grounding amongst both investors and corporates.
