The Prime Minister on Sunday reprimanded his party members for making inappropriate and inaccurate statements every time they see a camera. This slap on the wrist came a day after Union minister <keyword id="6344967" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="santosh-ganwar">Santosh Ganwar</keyword>’s controversial statement that “In a nation as big as India, one or two incidents of rape should not be hyped.” This comment was quick to draw criticism and he, in turn, blamed the media for ‘twist(ing)’ his statement. The rest of the post read: “I feel pity while looking at that woman journalist. She claims she was disturbed because the governor touched her. But when you read her tweets, it is understood that her intention was to target the Governor and Modi. It is actually the governor who has to wash his hands with Phenoyl after touching her. These (TN media persons) are cheap and disgusting creatures. Most people who work in the media in TN are usually Illiterate, cheap and don’t have any general knowledge. 5 times BJP ministers gave "masala" to the media

A special CBI court hearing the Babri mosque demolition case will pronounce its judgment on September 30. Judge SK Yadav has directed all accused to remain present in the court on the day of judgment. Prominent among the 32 accused are former deputy prime minister L K Advani and BJP leaders M M Joshi, <keyword id="6361634" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kalyan-Singh">Kalyan Singh</keyword>, Uma Bharti and Vinay Katiyar. CBI counsel Lalit Singh told that arguments of the defence and prosecution concluded on September 1 and thereafter the special judge started writing the judgment. The CBI has produced 351 witnesses and about 600 documentary evidence before the court. The Babri mosque in Ayodhya was demolished by karsevaks on December 6, 1992. CBI court directs LK Advani, MM Joshi, Kalyan Singh and other BJP leaders to be present for Babri Masjid demolition case verdict on September 30

<ul><li>CBI’s Special Court in Lucknow has acquitted all 32 accused of conspiring to demolish the <keyword id="43572" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Babri-Masjid">Babri Masjid</keyword>.</li><li>The key accused in this historic case include <keyword id="6436232" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="LK-Advani">LK Advani</keyword>, Uma Bharti, MM Joshi and Kalyan Singh, among others.</li><li>This is special CBI judge Surendra Kumar Yadav’s final verdict before his retirement today. </li></ul>Nearly three decades after the Babri Masjid was demolished, Lucknow’s special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court has announced its verdict today acquitted all of 32 accused. In his last verdict before retirement, judge Surendra Kumar Yadav said, “The demolition was not pre-planned.” According to him, the people named in the chargesheet weren’t trying to incite the mob but to <a href="https://twitter.com/LiveLawIndia/status/1311201954371166208">stop them</a>. “Court found that the video was fabricated. Investigative team did not produce negatives of the picture,” said advocate KK Misra after the verdict was announced. Yadav also highlighted that a local intelligence report had cautioned that such an event might take place on December 6 but it went unheeded by those concerned. Only 26 of the 32 accused were in court today. Some were excused due to age and others due to COVID-19 restrictions like Uma Bharti, who had recently tested positive for the disease. Overall 49 people were named as the accused in the FIR lodged by the CBI. However, 17 individuals died during the course of the 28-year-long trial. What is the Babri Masjid demolition case? The mosque was demolished on 6 December 1992 by a mob that believed that it had been built on top of Hindu deity Lord Ram’s birth place. However, the demolition was only the first of the dominoes to fall. Religiously motivated riots followed and led to death of around 2,000 people. Main crux of the matter, the demolition itself, was settled by the Supreme Court in 2019. It ruled in favour of erecting the Ram Janmabhoomi Temple at the location and allocating a different site for the mosque to be rebuilt. What was still hanging in the balance were the two FIRs filed by the police in 1992. Additionally, forty-seven more FIRs were filed for attacks on journalists on the day of the demolition. Of the two FIRs filed by the police, one was against lakhs of volunteers who were seen climbing the mosques with hammers and axes in hand. And the second one was against eight people — Advani, Joshi, Bharti, BJP’s Vinay Katiyar, Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s Ashok Singhal, Giriraj Kishore, Vishnu Hari Dalmia and Sadhvi Rithambhara. Dalmia, Kishore and Singhal have since passed away. Babri Masjid demolition case: CBI Special Court acquits all accused, judge says ‘demolition was not pre-planned’

The early winter air hangs heavy and the smell of fresh paint mixes with that of bleaching powder, used extensively to sanitise disinfect the campus. Almost four years after the <keyword id="6355192" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Lucknow">Lucknow</keyword> High Court shifted out to the new building on Faizabad road, the old High court building in Kaiserbagh is buzzing with activity again. It is here that the special CBI court will pronounce its verdict in the <keyword id="445212" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Babri-Mosque-demolition-case">Babri mosque demolition case</keyword> on Wednesday. Former Deputy Prime Minister LK Advani, former union ministers, <keyword id="58476" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Murli-Manohar-Joshi">Murli Manohar Joshi</keyword> and Uma Bharti, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh, former MP Vinay Katiyar and several other VHP leaders are among the 32 accused whose fate will be decided in the case on Wednesday. Ahead of the court verdict, a high alert has been sounded across the state for Wednesday. According to sources, more than 2,000 <keyword id="6393370" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Police-personnel">police personnel</keyword>, half of them in civil clothes, have been deployed to ensure the security of the area. SP Traffic Purnendu Singh said that all vehicular traffic has been banned the area and only ambulances, fire brigades and hearse vans will be allowed to move in the area. This will remain in force till the court verdict is announced. "There will be other diversions too and barricades will be put up at some places," he said. Besides, security has been beefed up in 25 districts that are known to be communally sensitive in Uttar Pradesh. Special security arrangements have been made in Ayodhya also where police personnel have been deployed in adequate numbers. Rapid Action Force personnel have also been deployed in Lucknow and Ayodhya. The CID, Lucknow intelligence unit and the CRPF are manning the complex and dog squads have also been deployed in the court that has been fitted with new CCTV cameras. Additional district and session judge (Ayodhya matters), SK Yadav, who has been hearing the case on a day-to-day basis since May 2017, has asked all the 32 accused persons to be present in the court when he pronounces the judgment on Wednesday. <keyword id="1223966" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-verdict">The verdict</keyword> will be announced in Court room number 18, and it has been decided that only five out of 32 accused will be inside the courtroom at any time. The rest will be seated outside in the lobby. There were 49 accused in the case apart from lakhs of 'kar sevaks' named in two separate FIRs lodged at the Ram Janmabhoomi (RJB) police station on the day of the demolition. Seventeen named accused, including Bal Thackeray, Ashok Singhal, Mahant Avaidyanath, Giriraj Kishore and Vijayaraje Scindia passed away during the course of the trial, leaving 32 accused in the case. Sources said that L K Advani, Uma Bharti, MM Joshi and Mahant Nritya Gopal Das are unlikely to be present when the court announces its verdict. Their applications for exemption are likely to be moved by their counsel before the court and they will seek exemption on health grounds. Babri Masjid demolition verdict today, UP on high alert

The <keyword id="6354977" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Supreme-Court">Supreme Court</keyword> today sought responses from senior <keyword id="6356617" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="bjp-leader">BJP leader</keyword> L K Advani and others on a plea against dropping of criminal conspiracy charge against them in the Babri mosque <keyword id="6367653" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Demolition">demolition</keyword> case. 
 A bench headed by <keyword id="42759" type="POSITION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Chief-Justice">Chief Justice</keyword> H L Dattu issued notices to the BJP leader and the CBI on a separate plea filed by Haji Mahboob Ahmad, one of the petitioners in the Babri mosque case. 
 
 
Ahmad, in his plea, has alleged that CBI may dilute its stand in the wake of the change in the government at the Centre. 
 Earlier, the CBI had moved the apex court against <keyword id="48834" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Allahabad-High-Court">Allahabad High Court</keyword>'s verdict on dropping conspiracy charge against Advani and 19 others in Babri mosque demolition case. 
 
 
During the brief hearing, CBI today sought time for filing a fresh affidavit on delay in filing the appeal and on the merits of the case. 
 
The court allowed the plea of the probe agency and granted four weeks time to file the response. 
 
The apex court had earlier pulled up CBI for the delay in filing an appeal against the Allahabad High Court verdict. 
 
 
CBI has challenged in the Supreme Court the May 21, 2010 order of the high court, which had upheld a special court's decision to drop the charge against the leaders. 
 In its verdict, the high court had upheld the special <keyword id="6362306" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="CBI-court">CBI court</keyword> order dropping conspiracy charge against Advani, <keyword id="6361634" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Kalyan-Singh">Kalyan Singh</keyword>, <keyword id="42642" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Uma-Bharti">Uma Bharti</keyword>, Vinay Katiyar and Murli Manohar Joshi. 
 
The others against whom the charge was dropped included Satish Pradhan, C R Bansal, Ashok Singhal, Giriraj Kishore, Sadhvi Ritambhara, V H Dalmia, Mahant Avaidhynath, R V Vedanti, Param Hans Ram Chandra Das, Jagdish Muni Maharaj, B L Sharma, Nritya Gopal Das, Dharam Das, Satish Nagar and Moreshwar Save. 
 
Bal Thackeray's name was removed from the list of accused persons after his death. 
 
While upholding the special court's order, the high court 
 
 While upholding the special court's order, the high court had allowed CBI to proceed with other charges against Advani and others in a <keyword id="2788382" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Rae-Bareily-court">Rae Bareily court</keyword>, under whose jurisdiction the case falls. 
 
The May 2010 order of the high court had said there was no merit in CBI's revision petition against the May 4, 2001 order of the special court which had directed dropping of criminal conspiracy charge against them. 
 
 
There are two sets of cases -- one against Advani and others who were on the dais at Ram Katha Kunj in Ayodhya on December 6, 1992 when the Babri mosque was demolished, while the other case was against lakhs of unknown 'karsevaks' who were in and around the disputed structure. 
 
CBI had charge sheeted Advani and 20 others under sections 153A (promoting enmity between classes), 153B (imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration) and 505 (false statements, rumours etc. circulated with the intent to cause mutiny or disturb public peace) of the IPC. 
 
It had subsequently invoked charges under section 120B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC which was quashed by the special court whose decision was upheld by the high court. 
While upholding the special court's order, the high court had said CBI at no point of time, either during the trial at Rae Bareily or in its revision petition, ever stated that there was offence of criminal conspiracy against the leaders.
