University of Delhi, CBSE will now use ‘forensics’ to detect fake documents submitted by students

DU, expanded as Delhi University is the dreamland for a large number of youth to pursue their collegiate courses. Considered among the high-profile educational institutions in the country, Delhi University has a big charm about it among the learners. Here is a detailed process of admission to DU. Delhi University counseling happens through offline mode. Students can seek admissions in Delhi University for UG, PG and doctoral courses across a range of disciplines. The university organizes entrance examinations to prepare the merit list for the sake of providing admissions to students. Here are the different stages of the admission process. Admission to DU is purely based on merit and the process of admission will take off once the admission list or cut off is released by the university. According to SRCC, there was a 32% increase in the average package and a 25% increase in its median package in the year 2019-20, in comparison to last year. Placements during a pandemic SRCC is one of the top commerce institutions in India. For students to get admission into the college, they have to score over 95% in 12th grade just to get in. And, the cut-offs are only increasing every year. The first phase of the placement drive at SRCC began in December with as many as 130 students receiving job offers. The highest package offered in the first phase was ₹31 lakh a year. The second drive was scheduled in January. However, once the coronavirus pandemic kicked in, it slowed down the process. Moreover, offers of 13 students who were placed in the first phase of the placement drive were either revoked or delayed. Despite the slowdown, it held the second phase of the placement drive and managed to get over 225 job offers from 120 recruiters for its undergraduate students. Around 554 students from the batch 2020, were registered with SRCC’s Placement Cell for jobs and internships. “It was quite challenging to be able to digitalise the entire process quickly and seamlessly, given that COVID had taken a drastic toll on the recruitment sector,” Vikram Nanda, Chief Secretary of the placement cell at SRCC, said in a statement. SRCC has further managed to get new offers for some of the students whose offers were revoked in the first drive. “As a team, we were happy with the fact that our statistics were still on a gradual rise and didn’t record any fall amidst the hiring freeze,” said Nanda. SRCC is now developing a virtual recruitment portal for the upcoming placement drive for the year 2020-21. They say they are very optimistic about the upcoming season and expect increased participation in online hiring as well. It is expecting McKinsey and Kearney, and FTI Consulting to make an offer to their undergraduate students in the upcoming season. Shri Ram College of Commerce sees a 32% increase in the average pay package as it ends its placement drive amid COVID-19

New Delhi, Apr 10 () Delhi University (DU) is considering making its entire admission process online to minimise the students' visits to the varsity in view of the situation arising out of the coronavirus pandemic, according to officials. Although the university has put the registration process on hold due COVID-19, its admission branch is working towards strengthening the process. According to the officials, the varsity has begun the process of collecting information from colleges amid a likelihood that there will be a little time left for preparations after the lockdown ends. In a letter to principals of all DU colleges on April 9, Professor Shobha Bagai, Dean (Admissions) said, "There has been a conscious effort to minimise visits of the students for physical verification of the mandatory documents during the admission process". "In the current scenario, it has been recommended that it becomes more imperative to have the complete admission process online, which also includes the online verification of the certificates," the letter said. Bagai also asked the colleges to upload necessary information on their websites and send the link to the admission branch. In the letter, she also directed the colleges to constitute a "strong" admission team for the process. "A team of reasonable number of student volunteers along with a Faculty Mentor be formed. The student volunteers must remain available during the time of admission to answer any related query pertaining to the admissions in the college," the letter said. DU had implemented the first phase of 10 per cent expansion in EWS (Economically Weaker Section) seats in 2019-20 and the remaining 15 per cent enhancement will be completed in 2020-21 academic session, according to the letter. The colleges have been requested to declare the seats in each course, category-wise on their websites. "With respect to certain course-wise combination of subjects, if there were any additional eligibility criteria, the same must be communicated to the admission branch by April 13," the letter said. The number of companies coming has more or less remained the same since last year, however the number of students that were made an offer to have increased,” Kanika K Ahuja, placement in-charge at LSR told ET. The students who get admission to these Delhi University-affiliated colleges have to score over 95% in the 12th grade — due to high cut-offs. But whether Du's ruling will have broader implications on the constitutionality of the criminal re-entry law is yet to be determined.The Justice Department is likely to appeal the judge's ruling to the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, which issues binding decisions of federal law in western states. If the Ninth Circuit rules against the government, the DOJ may decide to petition the Supreme Court. <h2>In making their case, the defense turned to historical record </h2>The defense challenged section 1326's constitutionality by presenting a case based on historical record and showcasing how racism is intertwined with the law's origin story. Congress made re-entering the US post-deportation illegal in 1929 with the introduction of the Undesirable Aliens Act and reaffirmed the law in 1952 when it enacted section 1326. Though nativism loomed over 1920s US <keyword id="11893346" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="politics" source="Orion">politics</keyword>, the act "marked a distinct shift from earlier anti-immigrant campaigns that targeted European, Chinese, and other Asian migrants," Benjamin Gonzalez-O'Brien, an associate professor of political science at San Diego State University told Insider. One of the lawmakers debating the Undesirable Aliens Act went so far as to argue for its necessity by arguing that Mexicans were "poisoning the American citizen" and were of an "undesirable class," per expert testimony cited in Carrillo-Lopez. The defense also pointed towards lawmakers' record of using racial slurs referring to Mexicans who enter the US illegally as evidence that racism factored into the creation of the laws. Violating the Undesirable Aliens Act and the re-entry statute can result in a fine, up to two years in federal prison, and added penalties for other drug and violence felonies and misdemeanors. "These laws were not just passed to provide a deterrent to undocumented entry," Gonzalez-O'Brien said. "The racial animus is on clear display." Federal prosecutors, however, contend that lawmakers at the time of enacting the statue were motivated by a multiplicity of reasons, including economic concerns.They argued that while the congressmen may have made "unbecoming" remarks, the defense was painting a "flat caricature," rather than a "complicated, multi-dimensional picture," per court documents. <h2>The decision shows section 1326 disproportionately affects Latinos </h2><div type="image" title="GettyImages 1227670916" height="1666" width="2500" msid="85819168" hostid="261"></div>Former US Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro, the grandson of a Mexican immigrant, brought the issue of criminalizing re-entry to a public stage during his 2020 presidential campaign, <a href="https://apnews.com/article/immigration-san-antonio-donald-trump-ap-top-news-politics-d33b9d373d0a4566821b72f886e8bc1a">writing that "migration shouldn't be a criminal justice issue</a>."Though decriminalizing re-entry is an issue immigration advocates have long been fighting for, they say their work became all the more immediate during the Trump administration, <a href="https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/department-justice-prosecuted-record-breaking-number-immigration-related-cases-fiscal-year">when the Justice Department announced it had prosecuted a record number of immigration-related cases in 2019. </a>Approximately 30% of all <a href="https://www.scotusblog.com/2021/04/court-to-decide-requirements-for-noncitizens-defending-against-federal-prosecution-for-criminal-re-entry/">federal criminal cases </a>involved people charged under the re-entry statute that year, per SCOTUSblog. According to US <keyword id="11996593" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="border-patrol" source="Orion">Border Patrol</keyword> data, 87% of people apprehended at the border in 2010 were of Mexican descent, down 10% from 97% in 2000. While the federal government acknowledged the statue disproportionately affects Latino individuals, it argued that these numbers result from Mexico's close proximity to the US - an argument Du wrote she was "not persuaded" by. "Like Section 1325, this law (Section 1326) has an incredibly racist history. I doubt the Biden DOJ will want to defend it in the appellate court," <a href="https://twitter.com/JulianCastro/status/1428102659748384770">Castro</a> tweeted last Wednesday following Du's decision.The DOJ did not respond to Insider's request for comment. Galen Carrico, an immigration and criminal justice attorney, says Du's decision is a "pretty narrow decision," but that it is nonetheless emblematic of progress in immigration law. Even if the decision is non-binding, it's a persuasive ruling that could have a tangible impact on his clients, most of whom are Latino, he said. "There are many people living life in the shadows," Carrico said. "While this decision won't change things overnight, it's evidence that progress is happening."
