"The use of Gateway of India-Mandwa waterway to reach Alibaug takes 45 minutes to 1 hour while travelling by road takes about 3.5 to 4 hours. Housing market in 2021: Mumbai tops all-India residential sales in the first quarter

If things work as planned, <keyword id="6358070" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="mumbai">Mumbai</keyword> will have at least two operational metro lines in 2020 connecting the western suburbs of the city. The two corridors, Metro Line-2A (Dahisar-DN Nagar) and Metro Line-7 (Dahisar East-Andheri East), are proposed to be commissioned simultaneously in 2020, the <keyword id="64095" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mumbai-Metropolitan-Region-Development-Authority">Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority</keyword> (MMRDA) said in a statement. MMRDA has not yet received possession of land for a car depot for Metro Line-7 as the land parcel is currently with the Airports Authority of India (AAI).
 MMRDA had proposed to give AAI another land in Gorai in lieu of their land. However, currently, this land has got a stay by the Bombay High Court as it had been earmarked for a law university.
 Meanwhile, MMRDA has also claimed that corridors, Line-2B (DN Nagar-Mandale), Line-4 (Wadala-Kasarvadavali) and Line-6 (Swami Samarth Nagar-Vikhroli), will be operational by 2021.
 The Supreme Court has restrained MMRDA from chopping trees for construction of the Metro Line-4 and asked to maintain status quo on felling of trees for the project. It had also sought replies from the MMRDA and the state.
 The ambitious Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro-3 corridor, being implemented by the <keyword id="117023" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mumbai-metro">Mumbai Metro</keyword> Rail Corporation (MMRC), has been facing several roadblocks and also missed its deadlines, which is now expected to be commissioned in 2021. After the change of dispensation in Maharashtra, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray ordered a stay on the construction of a metro car-shed for Metro Line-3 in <keyword id="6370614" type="DOMAIN" weightage="20" keywordseo="aarey">Aarey</keyword> colony, touted as the city's green lungs. Protests by locals, NGOs and the chief minister's son who is now a Cabinet minister, Aditya Thackeray, led to Uddhav Thackeray making this announcement soon after taking charge.
 "Once completed, these five lines -- 2A, 7, 2B, 4 and 6 -- with an aggregate worth of Rs 44,869 crore are expected to serve more than 50 lakh commuters at around 98 stations across the city," the MMRDA said.
 These lines are expected to make a considerable commuter shift by 35 per cent, thus easing the gruelling grind that the suburban rail network is, it said.
 "We are overcoming the biggest challenge one might face, which was to do these development projects without having to completely stop the vehicular traffic even for 10 minutes. It will be an accomplishment to showcase to the entire world. Mumbaikars have shown great patience. Now, it is time to reap rewards," MMRDA Commissioner R A Rajeev said.
 Apart from these, Mumbai will also witness works on projects like Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link (MTHL) and the Virar-Alibaug Multi-Modal Corridor having an aggregate cost of Rs 31,430 crore. 
 The ambitious Rs 17,843-crore MTHL project will be connecting Sewri with Nhava Sheva and help solve the traffic congestion in the island city by improving connectivity between Mumbai and <keyword id="57321" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Navi-Mumbai">Navi Mumbai</keyword>. "Besides these, there are several other bridges and connectors which will be beneficial to Mumbaikars. There are two flyovers, with an estimated cost of around Rs 163 crore and a road coming up to clear the BKC junction, among others proposed," MMRDA said. PSK HRS

In 2020, Mumbai's Western suburbs could have two operational metro lines

Mumbai, June 3 (IANS) Mumbai looked set to escape the fury of Cyclone Nisarga which made a thumping wet landfall at Shriwardhan-Dive Agar in Maharashtra's Raigad on Wedesday afternoon, officials indicated. As per the latest India Meteorological Department bulletin, the cyclone which was expected to move towards Mumbai-Thane-Palghar, has apparently veered off to the east and moving towards Pune. "Nisarga lay centred over coastal Maharashtra, close to east-southeast of Alibaug, 75 kms south-east of Mumbai (Colaba) and 65 kms west of Pune. Current intensity (near center) 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph," said the IMD. From the changed direction, the cyclone is likely to head towards Nashik, Jalgaon and then onto Madhya Pradesh, officials said, even as Nisarga seemed to have missed the state capital by a whisker. "The eye of the storm is around 60 km away, it has hit Raigad district at a speed of over 100 kmph. Now, it is proceedings towards Uran," said Ratnagiri Collector Nidhi Choudhari soon after the landfall. However, barring three persons sustaining minor injuries when a tin roof blew off in Santacruz, there are no reports of any casualties so far. The collateral damage include scores of uprooted trees, several vehicles getting crushed in Mumbai and other parts of the Konkan, electric or power poles getting knocked down or roofs blowing away as people remained crouched indoors. Several hours before the landfall, Nisarga had already announced its impending arrival with heavy rains or showers in the entire coastal region - Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg - accompanied by strong gales of upto 60-70 km per hour speed since Wednesday morning. As a precautionary measure, over 13,000 people were evacuated in Raigad, some 2,000 in Mumbai and some more in Ratnagiri, Thane and Palghar, mostly from low-lying or risk-prone areas, and those living in 'kuchha' structures. Big and small trees were uprooted and crashed in south Mumbai's Colaba and Churchgate crushing at least two vehicles, while heavy waves lashed the jetties at Gateway of India, Bhaucha Dhakka, and popular beaches at Girgaum Chowpatty, Dadar, Juhu, Versova, Madh, Marve, Gorai on the city's west coast. At least 10 crew members stranded aboard a merchant ship - which was tossed in the waves and ran aground near Mirkawada fishing village in Ratnagiri - were safely rescued by local fishermen and Indian Coast Guard. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, along with other ministers and officials, continuously monitored the unfolding cyclonic situation while Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar called up all coastal District Collectors and sought ground reports from them. Rescue teams of NDRF and SDRF, besides army, navy, air force, coast guard, police, fire brigade, along with expert divers were on standby at various points in Mumbai to handle any flood like situation. Maharashtra Fishermen's Association President Damodar Tandel said that many fishing villages on the entire coastal belt have suffered huge damages due to the storm. "As per the latest information, most of our fishing boats were moored safely since the past couple of days, but the real damage will be known only after the stormy weather recedes. There are no reports of any casualties or missing fisherfolk," Tandel told IANS. The IMD has already declared a Red Alert for Raigad, Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Nashik, Dhule and Nandurbar - which is the expected path of Cyclone Nisarga on its land odyssey. Due to overnight rains, several low-lying and coastal areas of Mumbai and Thane, besides other districts experience inundation, but there were no disruptions as most people kept off roads in their homes. Following a runway excursion by a FedEx cargo aircraft on the Mumbai International Airport Ltd.'s secondary runway, and owing to inclement weather conditions, the airport suspended all flight from 2.30-6 p.m. Several long-distance trains on the Central Railway and Western Railway had been rescheduled to avoid the cyclone. There were around 196 incidents of trees or branch crashes and at least two taxis getting crushed under them, 9 incidents of minor house or wall crashes and and 29 incidents of short-circuits all over the city, but no fatalities, said the Disaster Control of BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). The BMC shifted around 18,890 people from risk-prone coastal areas to 35 temporary shelters, while Raigad authorities had moved around 13,000 to safety from the Nisarga fury, with similar action taken in Thane and Palghar for over 200 persons. Raigad also witnessed scores of uprooted trees, including coconut and palm plantations, a large number of electric poles or power lines getting knocked down and scores of roofs blowing away from homes as people remained crouched indoors. His contender, who only to Geete lost by 2,000 votes in the 2014 general election — Sunil Tatkare — belongs to the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). And, of the 16 candidates competing in Raigad, Geete and Tatkare have emerged as the key contenders. One of the key issues for the constituency is the lack of employment opportunities and the lack of connectivity in the area. It’s also the platform from which Tatkare is attacking Geete.

 GeeteTatkare has been campaigning that Geete, despite being the Heavy Industries Minister, has been largely “inactive” in being able to create jobs. He adds, “I intend to bring in employment by getting automobile and IT industries in the area and through developing the coastal highway to boost tourism.” Voters has also been agitated about the delay in completing the Mumbai Goa highway, starting the Pen-Alibaug railway as well as the closure of any industrial units. But Tatkare stands on a shifty platform as well since he’s under <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/news/politics-and-nation/ncps-sunil-tatkare-named-in-anti-corruption-bureau-chargesheet/articleshow/60470418.cms">investigation</a> for corruption. It has been alleged, as the Minister of Water Resources, Tatkare violated norms in employing the Kodane Irrigation Project for which the costs increased to ₹3.27 billion from ₹56 million during his tenure. The winner of this Lok Sabha will oversee the Indian government’s ₹300,000 planned investment, in collaboration with oil marketing companies, to develop a mega refinery in Raigad. That is another point of contention since it was the Shiv Sena to blocked the project from being built in the districts of Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg — but have no opposition to it being built in Raigad. Should Geete win, this will be his seventh straight term in the Lok Sabha and he no longer has to deal with the dispute between him and Ramdas Kadam. Meanwhile, Tatkare is banking on Raj Tackeray and his party, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, to oppose the BJP and campaign for the Congress-NCP candidates in the state. In 2014, Raigad saw a voter turnout of 64.44% and considering the precarious pre-poll conditions, the security arrangements for the polling booths has been increased.

It will file a case in a special court for the same. Mallya, who is currently contesting extradition proceedings from the UK, owes a group of 17 banks - most of which are state-owned - nearly ₹100 billion. He and two of his companies, the now-defunct <keyword id="6373962" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="kingfisher-airlines">Kingfisher Airlines</keyword> and United Breweries, were declared ‘wilful defaulters’ in November 2015 by the State Bank of India and were accused of misappropriation of funds and of defaulting on payments to creditors. Mallya left India and moved to the UK in early 2016 after the banks filed a case against him with the Debt Recovery Tribunal. The Fugitive Economic Offenders Ordinance applies to individuals who have defaulted on payments over ₹1 billion. The ordinance defines a ‘fugitive economic offender’ as a person against whom an arrest warrant has been issued for a money-related crime, and has left the country so as to avoid a criminal trial or refuses to return to face the music. Once the ED files the case against Mallya in court, he has six weeks to present himself at a trial in a pre-specified location, where he will be tried under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. If he does not show up, he will be declared a “fugitive economic offender”, which in turn will allow the ED to seize his domestic and international assets, even without being convicted in a trial, in order to pay back his creditors. These assets include Mallya’s shares in United Breweries as well as real estate properties in Alibaug and Bengaluru. If the case leads to successful resolution of Mallya’s unpaid dues, it will establish an important precedent in India’s legal landscape. The next case filed under the Fugitive Economic Offenders Ordinance could very well be against a famous diamond merchant.

The information has bee provided by the ED in its recent charge sheet that it filed in the KFA-IDBI money laundering case ED has said that it would continue confiscating Mallya’s assets, out of which a coffee estate in Coorg (Karnataka) and other assets in Bengaluru would be the first ones to be confiscated, after the Rs 100 crore farm house in Alibaug (Maharashtra) that was recently confiscated. Assets worth over Rs 9,600 crore have been attached in the criminal case launched by ED against Mallya last year "Mallya was holding directly or indirectly movable and immovable assets, in the form of shares of public listed companies, by way of creating a web of shell companies. The assets were being in shell/dummy companies created by Mallya," said the ED. The charge sheet that has been filed is over 5,000 pages, out of which 57 pages are of the main report and rest are annexure. As per the charge sheet, Mallya had "formed a complex web structure of his group companies so as to indirectly control their affairs." "He has nominated directors in those companies who were either his personal staff, retired company official or a third person," it said. The shell firms that Mallya created are Ms PE Data Centre Resources Private Limited, Ms Pharma Trading Limited, Ms Kingfisher Finvest Limited, Devi Investment Private Limited, Ms MallyaInvestment Private Limited, Ms Explicit Consultancy Private Limited, Ms Ambitious Computech Private Limited and <keyword id="4659610" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="vilora-consultancy-private-limited">Vilora Consultancy Private Limited</keyword>, among others. And <keyword id="826" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Goa">Goa</keyword> has been among the favourites with many scouting their second homes in the Goan surburbs. 
	 
	“With increasing demand, more and more places are being successfully marketed as weekend home destinations: Lavasa, Lonavala, Alibaug and Igatpuri near Mumbai for weekend getaways, vacation spots like Mussourie, Ooty, Coorg and Goa, and the likes of Haridwar for the religiously inclined. What attracts buyers in this segment are primarily a serene location with good weather, good infrastructure and potential for rental income,” said Ashwinder Raj Singh, CEO, Residential Services, JLL India. 
	 This is followed by other weekend property markets such as <keyword id="6357787" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Shimla">Shimla</keyword>, <keyword id="153662" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kasauli">Kasauli</keyword> and Kerala, with Wayanad in Kerala being the most sought-after in the state. 	“After the basic needs of shelter are met, most people have an in-built desire to own properties to use purely for relaxation. Obviously, such properties need to be in the more bracing and beauteous environs than the cluttered, polluted cities. Because quality hotel rooms in most getaway cities are limited and also very expensive, people like to invest in weekend homes there for short, hassle-free getaways. With the basic luxury factor vested in such locations' mountains, lakes or religious shrines, these homes provide their owners with quality family time away from their routine city lives and often serve the extended purpose of providing a peaceful post-retirement life,” he added. 
	 
	So will this segment spearhead the revival of the sector? Experts feel otherwise. According to Singh, weekend homes are bought by those home buyers, who have already purchased their primary homes. 
	 
	“One spends only a limited amount of time per year in a weekend home. Nevertheless, there will be regular expenses on maintaining the property. If one does not wish to put the property on rent, the costs would include keeping a caretaker. Besides, if the property is to be put out on rent throughout the year, there would be expenses on regularly upgrading the basic amenities,” he noted. 
	 
	Well, looks like weekend homes may not be exactly what the sector has been looking for, nevertheless, they seem to be the perfect way to make a long term investments.

But for an influencer, it is not as easy as clicking and posting. “When someone starts influencing digitally, they may not make any money but you will have to invest a lot more time and dedication towards what you are giving to your audience. But I know many Instagram influencers who are not able to differentiate between virtual and real life. They suffer from mental illness and depression when they lose follower,” Alugh told Business Insider India.
