The AC is the entry-level officer rank in the five CAPFS of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). A senior CAPF commander privy to the development said the forces have discussed the "challenges and opportunities" that can come with transgenders in the officer ranks. "What we have found after preliminary analysis is that this is a watershed moment for the CAPFs like few years ago when women were recruited for the first time in the constabulary and officer ranks." "The transgenders will add to the rich profile of these forces. Also, if uniformed forces will not lead by example how can we expect other sections of the society to shed old inhibitions?," he said. It was analysed that there can be issues of acceptance among the troops in the initial phases but like women gelled well as colleagues and commanders in these forces, the transgenders too can, he said. Another officer said the forces have analysed that they will not have to prepare any additional infrastructure for transgender officers as all existing living units and toilets are gender neutral. "If a person of any gender has, what we call officer-like qualities (OLQ), then they can join the CAPFs on that merit alone. Also, all aspirants need to clear specific medical, mental and physical benchmarks for being recruited as officers in combat to lead their troops," he said. A third officer said the forces have conducted analysis of some civil organisations who have recruited transgenders and the feedback has been encouraging. "The recommendations of some of the CAPFs have been received and a decision will soon be taken after analysis. Once the gates are opened for any category of candidates, securing the job is absolutely on merit that is analysed by way of a written exam, physical tests and interviews," a senior home ministry official said. Once approved, the UPSC will advertise the option of ticking the transgender box, like male and female, in the gender column of the CAPFs (ACs) exams along with the estimated strength of officers required by each force this year, he said. The Ministry of Personnel, early this year, had also asked all ministries and departments to modify relevant examination rules to include 'transgender' as a separate category of gender for central government jobs. The legislation notified last year provides that no establishment shall discriminate against transgender persons in matters relating to employment, recruitment, promotion and other related issues. <ul><li><keyword id="10362411" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="veranda-learning" source="Orion">Veranda Learning</keyword> has acquired test prep-institute T.I.M.E for a consideration of ₹287 crore.</li><li>This is <keyword id="12160510" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Veranda" source="Orion">Veranda</keyword>’s first acquisition since it went public last month.</li><li>T.I.M.E operates through 188 centres including franchisees spread across 98 cities in India and runs 222 preschools.</li></ul>Edtech company Veranda Learning Solutions has ventured deeper into the test prep and preschool segment with the acquisition of Hyderabad-based test prep-institute T.I.M.E (Advanced Educational Activities Private Limited) for a consideration of ₹287 crore. This is Veranda’s first acquisition since it went public last month at a <a href="https://www.businessinsider.in/stock-market/news/veranda-learning-solutions-beats-gmp-and-lists-at-20-premium/articleshow/90771284.cms">premium of 20%</a>. Veranda’s share price has increased nearly 54% since its listing. The latest acquisition marked the company’s entry into the business administration (MBA), National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) test-prep as well as the preschool segment. “This 100% acquisition will be in a phased manner with 80% of the outstanding capital along with management control in phase 1, followed by the purchase of the remaining 20% at the end of two years,” Veranda said in a statement. Founded in 2018 by Suresh Kalpathi, Veranda offers online and offline coaching services for career-defining courses such as UPSC, chartered accountancy, banking, and government exams to students, graduates, professionals, and corporate employees. The company provides services through four subsidiaries — Veranda Race, Veranda CA, Veranda IAS, and Edureka, which is the customer-facing brand of Brain4ce Education Solutions. It reported a loss of over ₹8 crore in fiscal year 2021. “Our experience and strengths combined with the background of technology and franchising business of the promoters of Veranda will surely create superior value to large segments of the student community. Outstanding reputation of each Course offering from this group will complement each other,” Pramod Kumar, founder and director of T.I.M.E, said in a statement. T.I.M.E — founded by Manek Daruvala, Viswanath Pillutla and Kumar — operates through 188 centres including franchisees spread across 98 cities in India. The company claims to have trained over 22 lakh students since its inception in 1992, with a run rate of almost 1.1 lakh students annually. From BYJU’S to Unacademy – competition in India’s fast-rising online education sector

New Delhi, Feb 18 () Education technology firm Unacademy expects to earn an annual recurring revenue of USD 250-300 million (around Rs 1,789 crore to Rs 2,146 crore) on the back of rise in paid subscribers and expansion of its offerings, according to a senior company official. The company offers test series, personalised feedback and one-on-one interactions with educators for various competitive examinations, including UPSC. "Right now, we have 90,000 active paid subscribers. My goal is to take this to a million in the next two years. That would make our revenue 10 times from here. "We are looking to USD 250-300 million ARR (Annual Recurring Revenue) and for that we need capital, we need teachers and so on," Gaurav Munjal, CEO and Co-Founder, Unacademy told . Currently, it has more than 20,000 registered educators and over 18 million learners. As on February 1, Unacademy Plus had hit USD 30 million ARR. Generally, ARR refers to yearly value of a single subscription. Munjal said the company is planning to offer online coaching for state service examinations in Kerala, Maharashtra, West Bengal and other states. "If we have to have 1 million (subscribers), we will have to launch subscription for every single examination. We have 32 exam (services) right now, we have to launch at least 40 more," he said.
