<p>Analysts are predicting an annualized rate of 16.9 million units.</p>
<p>"Sales jumped 4.5% to 17.1 million units annualized in November, second highest since 2006 after 17.4 in August, helped by successful Black Friday promotions," Morgan Stanley's Ted Wieseman said. "Black Friday weekend has become a big deal for the industry the past couple years after auto dealers previously hadn't generally been active participants in the post-Thanksgiving sales frenzy. Last year there was some payback in December from sales pulled into late November, but stepped up discounting and support from plunging gasoline prices appear to kept sales elevated this year."</p>

<p><span><span>Note:&#xa0; There were 26 selling days in December this year compared to 25 last year.</span></span></p>

Tata Motors’ stock at nearly two-month high after selling more cars than Hyundai in December

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>The December report on <keyword id="6354851" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Retail">retail</keyword> sales is set for release at 8:30 am ET.</p>
<p>Expectations are for sales to fall 0.1% month-on-month, after a 0.7% increase in November.</p>
<p>Sales excluding autos and gas are expected to rise 0.5% in December.</p>
<p>In November, headline retail sales rose 0.7%, topping expectations for a 0.4% increase. Sales excluding auto and gas rose 3.9% compared to the prior year last month, the fastest year-on-year increase in 16 months.</p>
<p>In a note to clients ahead of Wednesday's report, Ian Shepherdson at Pantheon Macro wrote that he expects gas sales will weigh heavily on retail sales in December, and said the risk for the sales number on Wednesday is to the downside. </p>

Here Come Retail Sales ...

<p>Chrysler said sales climbed 8% during the month, which was stronger than the 5.4% estimated by analysts.</p>
<p>Total U.S. vehicle sales are forecasted to have climbed to an annualized rated of 15.7 million in January from 15.3 million in December.</p>
<p>"Auto sales probably bounced back in January after December's disappointing figures," said Citi's Peter D'Antonio on Friday. "Seasonal factors around yearend anticipate a major surge in vehicle buying in December, followed by the weakest selling of the year in January. "</p>

Chrysler Auto Sales Beat Expectations

<p>Economists predict total sales were flat in January after rising 0.2% from the previous month in December.</p>
<p>Excluding autos, sales are expected to have risen 0.1% in January after advancing 0.7% in December.</p>
<p>Excluding autos and gasoline, sales are expected to have risen 0.1% following a 0.6% advance in December.</p>
<p>The retail sales control group, a measure that feeds into the calculation of GDP, is expected to have risen 0.2% following a 0.7% advance the month before.</p>

New Delhi, Jan 2 () Major two-wheeler makers of the country, Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto and TVS Motor on Thursday reported decline in their domestic sales in December, ending 2019 on a negative note.
<p> Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd (SMIPL), however, reported a marginal increase in domestic sales last month.
</p><p> The country's largest two-wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp said sales in domestic market were at 4,12,009 units last month as compared to 4,36,591 units in December 2018, down 5.6 per cent.
</p><p> Similarly, Bajaj Auto also reported 21 per cent decline in  motorcycle sales in domestic market at 1,24,125 units last month as against 1,57,252 units in the year-ago period.</p><p> 
</p><p>Chennai-based TVS Motor Co said its domestic two-wheeler sales were down 25 per cent at 1,57,244 units last month as compared to 2,09,906 units in the corresponding month of 2018.
</p><p> Niche bike maker Royal Enfield posted domestic sales of 48,489 units in December as against 56,026 units in the year-ago month, down 13 per cent.
</p><p> Bucking the trend, SMIPL said its domestic sales grew 1.1 per cent to 44,368 units in December 2019 as compared to 43,874 units in the same month a year ago.
</p><p>In terms of exports, Hero MotorCorp said its overseas shipments last month were at 12,836 units as compared to 17,394 units in December 2018.
</p><p>Likewise, Royal Enfield also posted 14 per cent decline in exports last month at 1,927 units as compared to 2,252 units in December 2018.
</p><p> On the other hand, Bajaj Auto reported 13 per cent increase in motorcycle exports at 1,60,677 units as compared to 1,41,603 units in the same month a year ago.

Two-wheeler makers post sales decline in December

New Delhi, Jan 1 () Mahindra &amp; Mahindra Ltd on Wednesday reported a 1 per cent rise in automobile sales in December 2019, as a rise in passenger and utility vehicles offset a dip in commercial vehicle sales.
<p> In a regulatory filing, M&amp;M, a part of the USD 20.7 billion Mahindra Group, said domestic auto sales came at 37,081 units in December as compared to 36,690 vehicles sold a year back.
</p><p> Passenger vehicles clocked 4 per cent rise in sales to 15,691 while utility vehicles posted 10 per cent rise to 15,225.
</p><p> Commercial vehicle sales, however, slipped 5 per cent to 16,018 reflecting a slowdown in the economy and rural consumption.
</p><p> Exports were also down 30 per cent at 2,149 and they pulled down the overall M&amp;M December sales by 1 per cent to 39,230 units.
</p><p> During April-December, domestic sales were down 11 per cent at 3.6 lakh units reflecting a slowdown in the auto sector witnessed during the first half of the current fiscal. Together with declining exports, total sales were down 12 per cent to 3.8 lakh vehicles in April-December.
</p><p> In the Passenger Vehicles segment (which includes UVs, cars and vans), Mahindra sold 15,691 vehicles in December 2019, compared to 15,091 vehicles in December 2018.
</p><p> In the commercial vehicles segment, the company sold 16,018 vehicles in December 2019, as against 16,906 vehicles in December 2018.
</p><p> In the medium and heavy commercial vehicles segment, Mahindra sold 478 vehicles for the month.
</p> "Our performance in the month of December is as per year-end sales outlook and currently we are also comfortable with our overall stock levels. <p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"><p class="source"><span> Justin Sullivan/Getty</span></p><p class="caption">Americans need new cars.</p></div><p></p></div></div>The automakers who sell cars and trucks in the US are <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/auto-sales-dec-2015-2016-1">reporting December sales throughout the day on Tuesday</a> and its a nail biter.</p><p>The industry was on a tear in 2015, running at or above a torrid 18-million sales pace for much of the year. </p><p>If the full-year total comes in at 17.5 million, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/its-looking-like-the-us-auto-market-could-narrowly-miss-an-epic-number-in-2015-2015-12">then it will be the best year ever for the US market</a>, topping a sales record in 2000, when 17.4 million vehicles rolled off dealer lots.</p><p>We won't know if the 2000 record will be broken until all the automakers report their numbers, but its an important target for the US industry, which saw sales plunge below 10 million in the depths of Great Recession. <br /><br />Strong December sales and a record 2015 will prove that the car business has fully recovered from the worst chapter in its history.</p><p>Analysts surveyed by Bloomberg, both at consumer auto information resources such as Kelley Blue Book, True Car, and Edmunds and at big investment banks like Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan, are pegging the December sales pace in the high 17-million to low 18-million range.<br /><br />It'll be close, though, and the overall record might require some blockbuster results from smaller companies.<br /><br /> The biggest carmakers to report so far are falling short of growth estimates. At Ford, for example, U.S. sales rose 8% in December to 239,242 vehicles, bringing its full year total to 2.6 million (its highest since 2006). Analysts expected an increase of 11%. GM's sales growth in December was also lighter than expected.<br /><br />Ford and GM are down about 3% as of midday in New York. Adding to this is the willingness of the automakers' finance arms and banks t0 extend auto-loan terms beyond the usual five-year thresholds. </p><p>At various points in 2015, alarm bells were raised about the underpinnings of this boom. Subprime auto loans, for example, have worried market observers. However, default rates remain low. And the consensus among various members of the industry that I've spoken with this year is that sales at current levels should continue through 2016.</p><p>The average age of a car on US roads, after all, is at an all-time high: 11 years. Although a 20-million US market isn't out of the question, at some point sales will decline. The tightrope the auto industry demands that car makers capitalize on the boom while they can but avoid the errors of the past. </p><p>They need to avoid putting too much money on the table in incentive spending, in an effort to capture market share. And they need to invest in research and development now to avoid losing consumers' attention later with lackluster models. The US auto industry is on the verge of doing something it's never done before

The auto industry sold more cars in the US in 2015 than ever before

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>Fiat Chrysler's US auto sales jumped 14% in January, which was a bit better than the 13.8% expected by analysts.</p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em; font-size: 15px;">The big automakers will announce their January US sales stats throughout the day. </span></p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em; font-size: 15px;">Analysts estimate the pace of US auto sales fell in January to an annualized rate of 16.6 million units from 16.8 million in December. </span></p>
<p><span style="line-height: 1.5em; font-size: 15px;">"Vehicle sales increased by 5.7% in 2014 to 16.4mn, as promotional sales, easier access to auto financing, improving balance sheets for consumers, and pent-up demand helped boost sales," Nomura economists said. "We expect to see this strength continued into 2015 as consumers remain more upbeat on their situation."</span></p>
