If you live in Bengaluru, you’re probably huddled up in a cosy blanket right about now, armed with a cup of hot cocoa in one hand and the TV remote on the other. And then, a maddeningly familiar shiver runs through you — the same shiver that has frustrated you several times in the past few hours: you need to pee, and quick! While it's a topic many prefer to avoid, cold-weather-induced <keyword id="20218958" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="urination" source="keywords">urination</keyword> is a phenomenon that most people will experience at some point in their lives. The underlying reason? For instance, when temperatures drop, your body goes into survival mode to prevent <keyword id="20283762" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="hypothermia" source="keywords">hypothermia</keyword>. One of the primary methods it uses to keep you warm is constricting your blood vessels, which reduces blood flow to your skin and conserves heat around your vital organs. This vascular constriction leads to an increase in <keyword id="20000501" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="blood-pressure" source="keywords">blood pressure</keyword> since the same amount of blood is now circulating through a smaller space. In response, your kidneys kick into high gear to filter out excess fluid from your blood to reduce this pressure. The end result is more trips to the bathroom. Further, cold weather can cause muscles to tense up, including those in the pelvic floor. This extra pressure on the bladder can increase the need to urinate. In winter, we sweat less and often drink less water. The reduced sweat means more fluid needs to be processed through the kidneys, leading to a fuller bladder. Furthermore, dry winter air can lead to dehydration, increasing the risk of <keyword id="20763172" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="urinary-tract-infections" source="keywords">urinary tract infections</keyword> (UTIs), which can also cause frequent urination. Many studies have shown a UTI spike during the <keyword id="19953533" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="winter-season" source="keywords">winter season</keyword>. <h2>Relax, it’s not that serious (mostly)</h2>Interestingly, there's no definitive research pinpointing the exact temperatures or conditions that trigger cold diuresis. However, scientists agree that it is not typically a sign of a serious condition. If you're among those who feel the need to pee more when it's chilly, you can usually chalk it up to your body's natural response to the cold. For some, the increased urge to urinate in cold weather can indicate a condition called <keyword id="21387042" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="overactive-bladder" source="keywords">overactive bladder</keyword> (OAB). OAB is characterised by a frequent need to urinate and can be exacerbated by cold weather. Symptoms include increased trips to the bathroom, feeling like your bladder fills up more quickly, a sudden, uncontrollable urge to pee, frequent nighttime urination, and occasional leaks due to strong urges. <h2>Here’s what you can do about it</h2>Since cold diuresis is a signal that your body is trying to ward off hypothermia, bundling up is essential. Wear layers and protect your extremities. Hydration is also important. Even though you might not feel as thirsty in the cold, it’s essential to drink water to compensate for the increased urination. A few extra bathroom trips are normal, but if you find it excessive or accompanied by discomfort, consult a healthcare provider to rule out conditions like OAB. For those with OAB, using incontinence products like bladder pads can prevent leaks and accidents, making it easier to enjoy winter activities.

Business-to-business (B2B) e-commerce platform <keyword id="6357316" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="udaan" source="Orion">Udaan</keyword> has raised $120 million in convertible notes and debt, as it plans an initial public offering (IPO) in the next 12-18 months amid the <keyword id="6357455" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="funding" source="Orion">funding</keyword> winter. Udaan's chief financial officer <keyword id="2753906" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="aditya-pande" source="Orion">Aditya Pande</keyword> wrote in an email seen by IANS that with this round, the total funds raised by Udaan through convertible notes and debt in the last four quarters have crossed $350 million, making it one of the largest structured instrument fundraises in the country. "Despite the funding-related challenges being experienced by the larger start-up ecosystem, this fundraise reflects the confidence of investors in our business model and their endorsement of the journey to unit economics, driven by great progress in the evolution of our business model and cost efficiency, that we initiated last year," said Pande. He added that these steps have not only helped us achieve positive unit economics last quarter, but also improved efficiency in the system, with huge cost benefits, "which is key to building a sustainable business, and being public market-ready in 12-18 months". The Bengaluru-headquartered startup improved its unit economics by "1,000bps with equally strong improvements in both gross margins and operating cost," said Pande. "The journey of right business design and unit economics has translated into over 60 per cent reduction in the burn. Continued focus on customer-first thinking and initiatives on strengthening our value proposition for them have resulted in monthly buyer repeat rates increasing by more than 500 bps in the last 2 quarters," he added. Earlier this year, Udaan raised $250 million, $200 million in a convertible note and $50 million in debt. In the calendar year 2021, Udaan raised $500 million, taking its total raise to $1.4 billion to date. To cater to the growing demand, Udaan plans to scale its warehouse capacity to 50 million square feet across the country in the next seven-eight years. Udaan raises $120 mn in funding winter, plans IPO in 12-18 months

<ul class="summary-list"><li>Indian techies were tripling salaries during the pandemic due to bloated demand for talent. </li><li>But the tech sector — especially edutainment — has already begun feeling the pinch amid a global downsizing. </li></ul>As the world strapped in for the pandemic, closing schools and sending workers home last year, India's techies were having a field day. Firms in Bengaluru, a tech hub in Southern India with 1.5 million IT employees and once dubbed the <a href="https://www.ft.com/content/7b774116-2964-11e5-acfb-cbd2e1c81cca">"world's back-office</a>," hired willy-nilly, as they struggled to cope with a surge in global demand for digital products."Salaries hit the roof," Yeshab Giri, the chief commercial officer at Randstad India, told Insider. He recalled one applicant who left his job with an annual salary of 1.2 million rupees, or $14,700. The tech worker received five offers from five different companies, and over several months negotiated his yearly pay up to 3.3 million rupees, or $40,400, Giri said. That's almost triple his last paycheck. To put that into perspective, rent for a one-bedroom apartment in the heart of Indian tech hub Bengaluru costs $1,840 a year, according to data from real estate company <a href="https://www.nobroker.in/blog/cost-of-living-in-bangalore/">NoBroker.</a>"These weren't one-off cases," said Uddhav Kumar, the co-founder and CEO of Lynkit, a firm that offers inventory and supply chain tracking services to logistics companies. "Everyone who was working would almost be guaranteed to have an offer that was double or triple what he earned."The skyrocketing demand though, didn't outlive the pandemic. Like with the US, as COVID-19 measures receded in India, so did the tech boom. Silicon Valley has seen round after round of layoffs in recent months, and India's been feeling the pinch too.Salary offers are declining, and at least 3,800 employees in Bengaluru were laid off in the last three months, according to data aggregated by <a href="https://layoffs.fyi/?">Layoffs.fyi.</a>But India's tech winter has been muted so far, four Bengaluru-based hiring experts told Insider. They see the decline more as the market returning to the brink of normalcy, and said there's still hope for laid-off tech workers — as long as they've been active in their jobs.<h2>'The glory days of last year are over'</h2>Recruiters believe the industry reached its turning point near the end of the third quarter."The glory days of last year are over, where everybody and anybody could get a job if they were half-decent," said Anup Menon, the vice president of CIEL HR Services. "In that sense, the average to below-average talent will have things to worry about. It won't be so easy to get a job.""Companies are now very clear about the budget they have, and will only hire within that range," he added.By CIEL's estimates, India's IT sector saw a 41% decline in hiring in September, compared to monthly averages in 2022, Menon said. However, he added that companies traditionally also slow down their hiring toward the end of the year."If you look at 2018, 2019, these are numbers comparable to those years," he said. Tech workers, especially those just laid off from well-known companies like Twitter or Stripe, are still looking at a "fairly decent quality pool" of employers, said Menon.But they'll have to expect fewer perks and lower salaries, he added.CIEL found that 77% of all tech companies are ending remote work or switching to hybrid work arrangements, compared to 25% of companies who enforced similar policies last year, he said. Subhashree Ghoshal, a senior consultant at JAC Recruitment India, told Insider that most tech companies engaging in layoffs are mostly looking to trim off excess workers as fewer projects come in — not necessarily their core workforce."The major backlash has been faced by employees who have been bench employees," said Ghoshal, referring to employees who aren't actively working on IT projects but are still on the company payroll.Firms are also looking to hire fresh graduates who are cheaper, while laying off employees who lead small teams like program managers and supervisors, said Ghoshal. Most in the latter category typically have five to 15 years of experience, he said.<h2>'The worst, however, may come next spring'</h2>The worst may come next spring, said Ghoshal, who predicts a surge in layoffs at the start of the first fiscal quarter and at the end of the second as Western demand for outsourced tech workers dwindles.At Randstad, Giri estimates a 25% drop in hiring in 2023. "We read a lot about the West, experts talking about financial slowdown in the US. We'll have to wait and watch," he said.For now, most of India's tech firms have shown resilience to market headwinds, faring better than their Silicon Valley peers.Tata Consultancy Services, an India-based mega firm with 600,000 employees, announced a net income of $1.3 billion in the second quarter of 2022, per <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-10-10/tcs-profit-tops-estimates-after-outsourcing-giant-wins-new-deals">Bloomberg</a>. In the same quarter, Infosys, which hires a 345,000-strong workforce, <a href="https://www.infosys.com/investors/reports-filings/quarterly-results/2022-2023/q1/documents/q1-fy23-financial-results-auditorsreport.pdf">reported</a> a $65.6 million net profit. In contrast, Twitter <a href="https://investor.twitterinc.com/financial-information/quarterly-results/default.aspx">reported</a> a net loss of $270 million in the second quarter of this year, while Amazon <a href="https://affiliate.insider.com?postID=6386b687722a6819e779d5f6&amp;site=bi&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fir.aboutamazon.com%2Fnews-release%2Fnews-release-details%2F2022%2FAmazon.com-Announces-Second-Quarter-Results-fe1df2b70%2F">reported</a> a net loss of $2 billion in the same time frame. Meta <a href="https://investor.fb.com/investor-news/press-release-details/2022/Meta-Reports-Second-Quarter-2022-Results/default.aspx">reported</a> a 36% net income drop to $6.69 billion in Q2 2022, compared to the same quarter in the previous year.Menon of CIEL believes demand for tech workers will pick up again in the second quarter of next year, after a "much-needed correction" in the industry. "It was a little too unpredictable with the job hops and the kinds of salaries that were floating around," he said.Lynkit CEO Kumar concurred. "There was a lot of false hype around things that didn't add value but kept expanding," he said. "I think we are going to see that slowly being weeded out of the ecosystem."<h2>Sectors like edutainment for kids are badly hit</h2>One example of the post-pandemic decline involved digital services for kids, said Lynkit CEO Kumar. With schools shut during the pandemic, parents began buying educational and entertainment, or edutainment, subscriptions to keep their children busy."When schools started again, suddenly these kids had no reason to have these subscriptions," he told Insider.Education startup Byju's, touted as the <a href="https://asia.nikkei.com/Business/Education/Indian-edtech-Byju-s-raises-250m-from-existing-investors#:~:text=BENGALURU%20%2D%2D%20India's%20largest%20online,was%20cutting%20about%202%2C500%20jobs.">largest education tech startup</a> in India, spent <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/tech/startups/byjus-buys-great-learning-toppr-as-2-billion-acquisition-spree-continues/articleshow/84752307.cms?from=mdr">$2 billion during the pandemic</a> buying up other education firms to boost growth. It suffered a $575 million net loss in the year ending March 2021, <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-09-14/byju-s-reports-widening-losses-after-prolonged-audit-delay">per Bloomberg</a>. The company blamed poor macroeconomic conditions, and said it adopted a new revenue recognition model that led it to defer 40% of its revenue to the next few years, <a href="https://www.reuters.com/technology/indias-byjus-posts-gross-revenue-100-bln-rupees-fy22-2022-09-14/#:~:text=Gross%20revenue%20for%20fiscal%202022,listing%20plans%20to%20next%20year.">Reuters reported</a>. In October, Byju's laid off 2,500 employees, or around 5% of its total workforce. Byju's did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment for this story.Lynkit has been feeling the ripple effects of the third quarter fallout, said Kumar. Its HR department recently received around 1,200 resumes for an open product manager position, a role that normally sees 500 to 600 applications, the CEO said.Yet compared to the high-profile dismissals in San Francisco, the furloughs in Bengaluru represent smaller proportions of staff let go.And 2,500 jobs are a mere drop in the total pool of tech workers in India; Giri estimated that a total 350,000 people will join the local IT industry by the end of 2022."The layoffs that we're seeing are not really mass layoffs. Large companies laid off about 2,500 people, but we have to understand that they have a base of 50,000 people," Giri said.

India’s $50 billion wedding industry is gearing up for a busy winter — business may have shrunk in size but it has not lost its sheen

Winter or summer, day or night, casual or formal, <keyword id="51374" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Denims">denims</keyword> are India’s go to outfit for Indians. 
 To measure the varying use of denims across demographics and how Indians use their favorite pair of <keyword id="6403106" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="Jeans">jeans</keyword>, Westside conducted the ‘Denim Survey’ across 6 Major cities in India. With a sample size of 1200 respondents, the survey questions ranged from how often Indians snooze in their denims to how they wash them, and their spending habits when it comes to picking up a pair of jeans.

The survey surprisingly concludes that denim choices of men and women rest on similar tangents and are free of gender biases. 
 
As per findings, 39.46% women and 41.76% men own 4 to 6 pairs of jeans, and both spend between INR 1,000 to 2,000 on their denims. 
Hyderabad takes the cake when it comes to washing their denims, since it is the only metro where people wash denims once every week (45.59%) compared to other cities. 
 
For long, denims are caught in the fashion debate of being slotted as either smart formals or smart casuals. The survey found that 47% of overall respondents wear denims every day. 
 
The survey also throws up a shocking result that suggests that 62% above the age of 33 years prefer wearing denims to work. 
For instance, an exciting slot of findings infer that while an overall majority of respondents say that they opt for a straight fitting pair of jeans, there are a few contrasting opinions when it comes to modernizing denim-wear. A solid 9% of respondents from Delhi prefer to wear ripped jeans, while only 1.85% from Chennai and 6.03% of them from Mumbai approve it as a desired trend.

As for the classic denim on denim look, <keyword id="6354925" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kolkata">Kolkata</keyword> leads the way with 74.6% respondents preferring this look. 
 
While the majority is usually an indicator of conclusiveness, the minority in this space has led us to observe a kinship amongst cities with respect to the kind of jeans these cities are adorning. 
 
There are territorial tendencies when it comes to your favorite pair of Denims, with over 77% respondents saying that they will not share their jeans with anyone. As for ‘how jeans are treated’, overall a whopping 46.1% from the 6 cities where the research was conducted have admitted to snoozing in their denims.

If they bring in more flights, the airports won’t be able to manage the huge rush. 
 
In a meeting of top officials of the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Airports+Authority+of+India&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Airports Authority of India</a> (<keyword id="47439" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Aai">AAI</keyword>), the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/searchresult.cms?query=Directorate+General+of+Civil+Aviation&amp;sortorder=effectivedate">Directorate General of Civil Aviation</a> (<keyword id="6354787" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="DGCA">DGCA</keyword>) and the airlines, the slot allocation for the coming winter was finalized. This led to the problem of airport infra crunch that threatens to worsen as airlines add planes to their fleets. 
 
DGCA was asked by the AAI to form a capacity-planning and management body with airline representatives, airport operators and traffic control to decide on "measures to enhance runway capacity". 
 
In the meeting all airlines were asked to submit their aircraft acquisition plan along with the plans for positioning of aircrafts.&#xa0; Airlines also said that they weren’t able to get slots even for few moments at some airports. 
 
"Mumbai airport is running to capacity and the city is looking at getting its second airport several years after the first one has got choked. Delhi, despite its three runways, has no free slots in peak hour. All these curtail the choice of flights for passengers," a senior airline official told TOI. 
 It was also advised that the <keyword id="6354321" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bengaluru">Bengaluru</keyword> and Mumbai airports runway closure should not be done simultaneously. The airport operator should give commitment that the works will increase the runway capacity.
