A couple of years back, anybody with a full-time job across the globe used to say that they work a "9 to 5 (9 am to 5 pm)." However, as per a recent report, that is no longer the average working hours and more and more employees are now adapting to a <keyword id="23061305" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="flexible-work-style" source="keywords">flexible work style</keyword>. The <keyword id="20534318" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="coronavirus-pandemic" source="keywords">coronavirus pandemic</keyword>, in 2020, saw a major change in work patterns across the globe. As companies shifted their operations remote overnight, employees began working at their own pace, at their own time. At the time, many reports had come up that the future of work would be flexibility in terms of working hours and location. And as per a latest report, that has started happening. <h2>Bye bye 9-to-5 </h2> The standard 9-to-5 workday has now transitioned to more of a 10-to-4 routine, according to a 2023 Global Traffic Scorecard by INRIX Inc, a traffic analysis firm. This shift means fewer people are commuting during the early hours, creating a new trend in daily traffic flow. With fewer people hitting the road in the early morning or evening, traffic congestion has now shifted to the middle of the day. A CNBC report quotes Bob Pishue, a transportation analyst who authored the INRIX report, saying, "We’re seeing less activity in the morning and evening but much more around noon." Surprisingly, the number of trips made around noon is now almost equal to those at 9 am and 5 pm What was once a lull between morning and evening traffic has transformed into a peak period of congestion. <h2><keyword id="19901232" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="work-life-balance" source="keywords">Work-life balance</keyword> takes center stage </h2> The report also quotes David Satterwhite, CEO of Chronus. He says that many employees have embraced the ability to work remotely and only come into the office when absolutely necessary. This might mean arriving late, leaving early, or coming in for a brief meeting before heading back home. This trend, often called “coffee badging,” has become widely accepted as employees pop into the office for short stints and then continue their workday elsewhere. A recent survey from Owl Labs found that 58 percent of hybrid workers admitted to checking into the office for just a few hours before leaving. These days, more workers prioritise work-life balance, flexible hours, and mental health support over climbing the corporate ladder. Many are reluctant to spend more time at the office than necessary. In fact, if the option to work from home were removed, 66% of workers said they would start searching for a new job that offered more flexibility, according to Owl Labs. Of those, around 39% would quit right away. In January this year, a study conducted by Randstad also revealed that workers prioritise work-life balance over salary when evaluating potential job opportunities. According to the study, 57 percent of employees would reject a job offer if it negatively impacted their work-life balance. Insider Today: Robotaxi reality check

<ul class="summary-list"><li>A retired woman said doctors wrote off her health isssues as menopause, but she was prediabetic.</li><li>Tracking her blood sugar levels helped her build healthy habits and find foods that worked for her.</li></ul>When Gayle Pagano turned 53, it was like a switch was flipped.Suddenly, without changing her diet or exercise habits, she started to gain weight, her joints ached, and nothing felt right. Blood tests suggested that she had <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/health/normal-blood-sugar-levels">prediabetes</a>.Doctors wrote off her symptoms as part of getting older and undergoing <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/guides/health/reproductive-health/menopause-age">menopause</a>, noting that her blood sugar measurements were within the higher range of normal."It was insanely frustrating," she told Business Insider. "When I tell you this is how I feel, regardless of a number or what's normal, I know it's not normal for me."Pagano started using a continuous glucose monitor (CGM), a wearable device that gives live updates on changes to blood sugar levels. She was connected to the device via the health tech company Nutrisense, which provides support from a nutritionist as well as a prescription that was, until recently, necessary to get a CGM.While the devices are still an emerging trend and researchers are skeptical they can benefit just anyone, Pagano said it worked for her.Now 56, she's lost 50 pounds and said tracking her blood sugar has helped her build healthy habits and choose foods that keep her energized.<h2 id="5ba5d07c-d5cc-4ca5-939e-42326dc46a32">Cutting back on processed carbs</h2>Coming from an Italian family, Pagano is a huge fan of pasta.Tracking her blood sugar helped her realize she didn't need to give it up completely. After experimenting to see how different foods affected her body, she said making pasta and bread at home led to fewer blood sugar spikes.What she did cut back on were <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/some-ultra-processed-foods-may-be-healthier-than-homemade-scientist-2024-6">processed foods</a>, even items like salads. Despite being convenient, some premade meals can be loaded with hidden additives like sugar."The biggest surprise and the most disappointing thing is packaged, prepared foods and restaurant foods," she said. "It doesn't matter how healthy you think something might be."Pagano has found healthier way to enjoy similar flavors with more nutrients and fewer preservatives, though. For instance, she's shifted from having fruit jelly at breakfast to eating blueberries, raspberries, or blackberries instead, which are rich in fiber as well as vitamins and antioxidants.<h2 id="be1cb743-1cfc-4d9e-a000-6df5739a6ba3">More protein and fiber with each meal</h2>One simple way to balance blood sugar without cutting carbs completely is to load up on other nutrients first, according to Pagano."I have my proteins first, then fibers, then starches," she said.There's good science to this approach, since digesting protein and fiber can slow the absorption of glucose from the carbs to <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/high-protein-lunches-manage-blood-sugar-without-cutting-carbs-2022-2">prevent blood sugar spikes after eating</a>, dietitians previously told BI.<h2 id="e1c39bbe-3004-4daa-af88-22b06bad5f32">Intermittent fasting</h2>Pagano said her daily routine includes a 14-hour period of <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/intermittent-fasting-benefits-and-risks-for-longevity-weight-loss-cancer-2024-4">intermittent fasting</a>. She finishes eating around 5 pm, and said her previous habit of eating late at night was disrupting her sleep.<a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/intermitting-fasting-benefits-control-blood-sugar-levels-obesity-pre-diabetes-2023-6">Fasting</a> may help keep blood sugar levels within normal ranges for people with prediabetes, research suggests.Pagano said she often has <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/nuts-healthy-for-liver-and-gut-despite-high-calories-expert-2021-6">nuts</a> and cheese as an evening snack before fasting. The combination includes a hefty dose of fiber, healthy fats, and some protein, all of which are associated with feeling full for longer.<h2 id="1308b0ef-e5e8-4635-aa55-71274ea2e5e1">A new supplement: berberine</h2>To help balance her blood sugar, Pagano started using an herbal supplement sometimes called "nature's Ozempic."<a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/what-is-berberine-this-supplement-isnt-natures-ozempic-2023-6">Berberine</a>, a yellow compound found in plants like barberry and goldenseal, has a long history in traditional medicine. There's not much evidence it significantly boosts weight loss, but some studies suggest it can have a modest benefit on blood sugar and cholesterol levels.However, it can have side effects like digestive upset. Like other supplements, berberine isn't well regulated, so it can be tough to know if you're getting a quality product in the right dose.<h2 id="219a4b53-41b8-4128-9b42-31768a0fc89e">Strength training with resistance bands</h2>Pagano said she's always made walking a habit and aims to get in her <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/walking-10000-steps-for-health-not-science-based-in-marketing-2021-7">10,000 steps a day</a>. Now retired and living in Florida, the heat can sometimes make outdoor exercise more daunting.She added strength training to her routine with 15 minutes of resistance band exercise, a few times per week. Studies suggest resistance training, with bands or weights, can <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/weight-lifting-and-cardio-may-help-you-live-longer-study-2022-9">boost longevity</a> and help prevent illness.Pagano still walks regularly, and aims to take a quick stroll after meals to help keep her <a target="_blank" class="" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/diet-and-exercise-strategies-for-lower-blood-sugar-reverse-type-2-diabetes-2024-5">blood sugar in check</a>."I absolutely must move after eating," she said.

That's an unbelievably high standard and I think we have to get more realistic," he added.Disney can claim 10 of the 20 highest-grossing films, each of which took more than <a target="_blank" href="https://www.boxofficemojo.com/chart/top_lifetime_gross/">$1 billion</a> at the box office, per IMDb.Recent releases, however, have disappointed. "Wish" made just $19.5 million domestically on its opening weekend, making it one of <a target="_blank" href="https://www.forbes.com/sites/conormurray/2023/11/27/wish-is-one-of-disneys-worst-openings-ever-for-an-animated-movie-heres-why/?sh=11300f739ffb">worst-debuts</a> for a Disney animated feature.Meanwhile, "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny" cost nearly $300 million but took just <a target="_blank" href="https://www.boxofficemojo.com/releasegroup/gr152719877/">$60.4 million</a> on its opening weekend in the US. However, the film's now made $383 million globally, per <a target="_blank" href="https://www.boxofficemojo.com/title/tt1462764/">Box Office Mojo</a>.In the interview, Iger attributed Disney's recent struggles to putting <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/bob-iger-disney-sequels-too-many-wont-apologize-dealbook-summit-2023-11">quantity before quality</a>. It's a 15% bump since the end of June, thanks in large part to the <a style="text-decoration: underline;" href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/news/bonds/bond-market-crash-what-are-treasury-yields-stocks-economy-americans-2023-10?utm_medium=ingest&amp;utm_source=markets">rout in the bond market</a>. And with the sell-off continuing well into October, that figure is now likely even worse. That's a pretty scary number! To put things in perspective, if those losses were a country's GDP, it'd be <a style="text-decoration: underline;" href="https://www.worldometers.info/gdp/gdp-by-country/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">just shy of the top 20</a>. But the numbers also don't tell the entire story. Similar to my potential to become a star NFL quarterback, the losses are unrealized. That means there's a lot of wiggle room for how big banks can portray them on their balance sheet. According to the annual report released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on May 30, there was a significant surge in the number of financial frauds reported by banks, increasing by 166 per cent year-on-year in the financial year 2023-24 to reach 36,075 cases. This figure starkly contrasts with the 13,564 cases reported in the previous fiscal year, FY23. Despite the notable rise in the number of fraud cases, there was a substantial decrease in the total amount involved in these incidents. The amount of money associated with total bank frauds plummeted by 46.7 per cent year-on-year in the financial year 2023-24, totaling Rs 13,930 crore. In comparison, the amount recorded in FY23 stood at Rs 26,127 crore. RBI has proposed a revision of the limit of bulk deposits for Scheduled Commercial Banks (SCBs) and Small Finance Banks (SFBs). This move, aimed at enhancing flexibility and aligning with evolving market dynamics, underscores the RBI's commitment to fostering a conducive environment for the banking sector. Currently, banks have the discretion to offer differential rates of interest on bulk deposits based on their requirements and Asset-Liability Management (ALM) projections. The existing bulk deposit limit for SCBs (excluding Regional Rural Banks) and SFBs, set at 'Single Rupee term deposits of Rs 2 crore and above,' was established in 2019. However, following a comprehensive review, the RBI has proposed to revise this definition to 'Single Rupee term deposits of Rs 3 crore and above' for SCBs and SFBs. In addition to the proposed revision for SCBs and SFBs, the RBI has also suggested defining the bulk deposit limit for Local Area Banks (LABs) as 'Single Rupee term deposits of Rs 1 crore and above,' mirroring the criteria applicable to Regional Rural Banks (RRBs). RBI has also unveiled plans to rationalize export and import regulations under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA), 1999. This initiative, driven by the imperative of progressive liberalization and operational flexibility, underscores the RBI's commitment to fostering a conducive environment for international trade and investment. By eliminating redundancies, enhancing clarity, and reducing procedural complexities, the RBI aims to promote ease of doing business for all stakeholders involved in cross-border trade. The RBI aims to streamline and simplify operational procedures related to export and import transactions, thereby reducing administrative burdens and enhancing efficiency for businesses and authorized dealer banks. By aligning regulations with international best practices and market realities, the RBI seeks to create a business-friendly environment conducive to fostering trade and investment growth. Simplified regulations will facilitate smoother trade transactions, encouraging businesses to explore new markets and expand their global footprint. While promoting ease of doing business, the RBI remains committed to ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and safeguarding the integrity of the financial system. The proposed rationalization will uphold the principles of transparency, accountability, and risk management in cross-border transactions. As part of the process, the RBI plans to publish draft regulations and directions on its official website by the end of June 2024. In a bid to enhance the convenience and efficiency of digital payments, RBI has unveiled plans to expand the e-mandate framework to include recurring payments for Fastag, National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), and similar services. This initiative, aimed at modernizing payment systems and promoting financial inclusion, underscores the RBI's commitment to fostering innovation and leveraging technology to meet evolving consumer needs. The current UPI Lite service permits customers to load their UPI Lite wallets with up to Rs 2000/- and conduct transactions of up to Rs 500 from the wallet. To enhance the seamless usage of UPI Lite for customers, and in response to feedback from various stakeholders, it is suggested to integrate UPI Lite into the e-mandate framework. This integration would introduce an auto-replenishment feature for UPI Lite wallets, automatically refilling the wallet balance when it falls below a predetermined threshold set by the customer. Since the funds remain under the customer's control (transferring from their account to the wallet), it is proposed to eliminate the need for additional authentication or pre-debit notifications. Relevant guidelines pertaining to this proposal will be issued shortly. RBI has embarked on a mission to foster innovation and transformation in the financial sector with the launch of its third edition of the global hackathon, "HARBINGER 2024 - Innovation for Transformation." It would feature two primary themes: 'Zero Financial Frauds' and 'Being Divyang Friendly.'
