As consumers started focusing more on their health and well-being and became more conscious of following a tight schedule, sleep also started playing a vital role in this aspect. Centuary Mattresses, a 30-year-old brand that takes pride in being a ‘sleep specialist,’ was quick to recognise the growing importance of ‘immunity and health’ in the market and launched an antimicrobial foam shield mattresses across its range and online range of pocket spring roll mattresses. The brand is aiming to position its mattresses not only as a wellness product but as a health product which could help in boosting immunity. On how important the wellness proposition has become in the current market, Uttam Malani, Executive Director, Centuary Mattresses, said, “We strongly believe that every business in the post-COVID era will have to bring a certain wellness proposition for the consumer. As a mattress brand, we also intend to leverage this position by tailoring most of our products and communication in this direction. We have a host of new product line ups and health-based brand communications. The post lockdown period will certainly bring optimism for the manufacturing industry. However, few things which should be kept in mind after lockdown are spending the money sensibly with judicious buying. The companies need to implement a proper credit management system, control the operational expenses, plan logistic management, and streamline the labour/manpower management.” According to Malani, Centuary Mattresses is amongst the top 3 brands in the country with a presence in 19 States and availability across 3500+ retailers. It is looking to expand its presence in East/North-Eastern markets and currently has exclusive 400 + EBOs in the country. As the market slowly limps back on its track, Centuary Mattresses is optimistic about achieving 18-20% growth this fiscal. Centuary Mattresses enjoys about 10% of the market share in the organised segment and it aims to increase its share to at least 12-13% in Financial Year 2020-2021. Organised and unorganised put together, the mattress industry in India is currently worth Rs 10,000 crore and only about 40% of the market is occupied by organised players. Talking about the advantages of operating in a market dominated by unorganised players, Malani said, “63% of the mattresses sold in the country still comes from the unorganised sector as per a recent survey conducted by the ISPF; the opportunity presented to the organised sector through the implementation of GST is huge. Add to that the explosion in the health &amp; wellness industry; coupled with growing awareness levels &amp; studies on the importance of sleep in an individual's wellbeing, and it doesn't take long to realise that the category is ripe for transformation to a well-structured, regulated, and largely organised sector. The Online sales of mattresses has gained more traction post-COVID, with nearly 7-8% revenue contribution coming from online channels.” However, the mattress industry is expected to shrink by 10% and that hasn’t shaken its spirit. Malani said, “While growth of the industry will be pegged at -5% in the current fiscal, it may witness a healthy growth in 2021-22. However, we did not waste the lockdown period and rather looked out for opportunity amidst this crisis. We are already on the recovery mode and should be back on the growth track from the festive season. Even though the mattress industry which was growing at 8% annually, is expected to shrink by 10% this year, we are optimistic we will be able to achieve a growth of about 18%-20% Y-oY this financial year onwards,” It was on the back of demand from rural markets that Centuary Mattresses saw an early recovery. With the festive and marriage season, the brand is now hoping to clock good numbers in the urban market as well. “Consumer spending has become more cautious with COVID as consumers are preferring to place their confidence in known and reputed products and brands. Although the average selling prices have shrunk marginally, there is a huge spike in business particularly from rural belts in recent weeks, which bodes well for the organized sector. While mattresses demand is becoming normal in Tier-II &amp; III rural areas, the momentum is yet to pick up in the urban. In the initial period, we were anticipating a hit of around 25% on the business, however, with the current developments, we foresee it to be down by around 5% now this fiscal with healthy growth in 2021-22,” said Malani. Communication Strategy The Indian consumer has been shifting to the online world over the last few years and this trend has only been accelerated post-COVID. “Centuary has been one of the first mattress brands in India to create an e-commerce footprint right from 2015. We are betting big on our first ‘Online Exclusive’ product range – ‘Sleepables by Centuary’. We invested a year on developing it and it's an extension of the umbrella brand Centuary Mattresses and restricted to an online space. The mattress is also made available in the revamped website of Centuary to leverage its own web engine and utilize it as a powerful e-commerce engine with a better customer interface. The traffic has increased 3 times as compared to the Pre-COVID days,” said Malani. On changing its social media to meet the rising consumer demand, Malani said, “We are keeping all our customers and followers engaged through various means of Social Media platforms by providing required information clubbed with some entertainment in these stressful times. We have started a social media campaign to engage and educate people not only on the benefits of sleep but also helping the family members to understand the advantages of better sleep. At the same time, we have also initiated a conversation with all our customers to understand their worries by addressing each of the issues being raised because we are concerned for a better health and longevity of our customers.” Elaborating on the social media strategy further, Malani said, “In continuation to our efforts in engaging with our audience during the lockdown period, we have organized campaigns like ‘KaroNa’ wherein we motivated people to start learning to play musical instruments, indoor games, have a family discussion to enhance the bonding, etc., we thought of making it more interesting and provide relief from boredom to all our audience through an interesting #SleeptimeStories campaign which is still running. Sleep Time or bedtime stories are the most cherished moments of everybody’s life; be it grandparents, parents, and kids as well. So, we wanted them to be more relevant and non-preachy. Therefore, we made them light-hearted, hopeful, and value-driven stories clubbed with fun. We introduced a storytelling expert who interestingly narrates a specific story on social media platforms to impress the audience of every age group. Couple renovating their kitchen finds $75,000 treasure trove of 17th-century coins

Columbia University senior <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/columbia-student-emma-sulkowicz-still-carrying-mattress-around-campus-2014-9">Emma Sulkowicz has made waves throughout the higher education world for her senior thesis</a> - a performance art protest piece titled "Carry That Weight" that obligates her to carry a mattress around campus until her alleged rapist leaves the school.
Friday, a group of Penn State University students created their own campaign, carrying around mattresses both to support Sulkowicz and to raise awareness of sexual assault on their own campus.
"It shows that issues like this can come out of the shadows and be something we can talk about ... If we don't have an ongoing dialogue, people will think this is something they can't talk about or should be ashamed of, and it needs to be addressed," <a href="http://www.collegian.psu.edu/news/campus/article_8e64b4a0-4a7d-11e4-9fa2-001a4bcf6878.html?mode=jqm">one organizer told student newspaper The Daily Collegian</a>.

New Delhi, Apr 17 () To help India fight against COVID-19 pandemic, Larsen &amp; Toubro will provide medical aid worth Rs 40 crore comprising of PPEs, N95 masks, diagnostic kits and other medical equipments, a top company official said on Friday. This will be in addition to the Rs 500 crore provision per month by the engineering giant for providing support to 160,000 contract labour spread across the country and donation of Rs 150 crore to the PM-CARES Fund announced on March 30. The company will provide 45,000 PPEs, 151,000 N95 masks and 155 diagnostic kits. The value of the medical aid to combat deadly coronavirus is estimated at about Rs 40 crore. "As a responsible corporate citizen, we are providing the PPEs, diagnostic kits, N95 masks and critical hospital equipment including ventilators that will be helpful in effectively combating the pandemic", SN Subrahmanyan, CEO &amp; MD, Larsen &amp; Toubro told . The conglomerate plans to donate Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) to various healthcare organisations under State governments of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Assam and Telangana. It plans to donate 151,000 N-95 masks to health agencies in Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra, he said. The company has already handed over 100 semi fowler beds with matresses, 2 ventilators, 7 bipap ventilators and 20 multiparameter monitors to Tamil Nadu Health Department-run The King Institute of Preventive Medicine and Research, Chennai. The institute will further receive 8 ventilators from L&amp;T shortly, he said adding, the company also plans to donate 12 ventilators for state health authorities in Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. L&amp;T is sourcing 155 make-in-India test kits - capable of conducting 15,500 tests - developed by Pune-based molecular diagnostic company, Mylab Discovery Solutions to be donated to Central government and state governments. Each kit can conduct 100 tests and is capable of detecting infection in 2.5 hours as opposed to other imported kits that take longer duration. As the daily wage earners are facing problems during the lockdown, L&amp;T has also provided grocery kits to 1,966 families and cooked meals were provided to 8,000 people in Mumbai through its NGO partners. From the US Fed minutes commentary, markets have reportedly anticipated Fed to reduce its holdings of treasury bonds, which pushed the 10-year US Treasury yield to 1.7%. Indian markets see huge sell-off after US Fed says interest rate hike will be sooner than expected

Coronavirus crashed Infosys stock more than whistleblower allegations

This could be good news for the well-wishers of the <keyword id="1638975" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Indian-pharmaceutical-market">Indian pharmaceutical market</keyword>, since a recent report by IMS Health has revealed that the market has, for the first time, touched the Rs 1,00,000 crore mark. IMS Health is a research firm dealing in the global pharmaceutical market. 
 
The study has shown that the golden landmark was touched in November, and the figure was calculated on the basis of Moving Annual Total (MAT). 
 
In the report, it is said that three-fourth of the market share was taken over by Indian companies during the month of November. 
 
The Indian pharmaceutical market has grown by an average of 12% over the last three years. In this, drugs that treat infections, heart ailments and patients with gastro-intestinal issues covered almost 38% of the share. 
 
As per the report, in November, Indian market was valued at Rs 1,00,115 crore, of which the retail sector was valued at Rs 84,279 crore. 
 
Talking of companies, Sun Pharma held its top position with a market share of 8%, followed by Abbott that has a share of 6.1%. Cipla isn’t too far behind, with 5.4% market share, and has grown higher than its top peers with a growth of 16% during the month. 
 
In brands, however, it was Mixtard, the popular insulin marketed by Abbott, that retained its first position as the largest brand for the month. It was followed by the cough syrup brand Corex (Pfizer) and Glycomet-gp, a diabetes brand of USV.

Indian pharmaceutical market touches 1,00,000 crore mark

The rupee opened on a weak note and declined by 21 paise to 71.09 against the US dollar in opening trade on Monday, as sustained foreign fund outflows weighed on investor community. Forex traders said rising demand for the US dollar vis-a-vis other currencies overseas also weighed on the domestic currency. The rupee opened weak at 71.00 at the interbank forex market and then fell further to 71.09, down 21 paise over its last close. The rupee had settled at 70.88 against the US dollar on Friday. However, easing crude oil prices supported the rupee and restricted the downfall. Brent crude futures, the global oil benchmark, eased 0.27 per cent to USD 58.21 per barrel. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) remained net sellers in the capital markets, pulling out Rs 682.93 crore on Friday, as per provisional data. On the domestic market front, benchmark indices Sensex was trading 220.22 points higher at 37,893.53 and Nifty up 51.50 points at 11,226.25. The dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, rose by 0.03 per cent to 98.83. The 10-year government bond yield was at 6.68 per cent in morning trade.

Foreign investors are pulling money out of India and that's hurting the rupee

<ul><li> VIL lost market share in 14 circles whereas JIO gained market share in these circles. </li><li> Jio’s revenue market share is at 31.7% which is in striking distance of <keyword id="15492" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Vodafone">Vodafone</keyword> <keyword id="41511" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="idea">Idea</keyword>’s 32.2%. </li><li>CARE recently downgraded VIL’s long-term debt to A- from AA-, with a negative outlook. </li></ul>What does it mean to be the top telecom service provider in India? The finish line in the race between Jio, Vodafone Idea (VIL), and Airtel is at the halfway mark. Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio is looking to attain a 50% share in the total telecom sector’s revenue. The company that brought in predatory pricing is looking to bite off half of the telecom pie, which will probably make it powerful enough to alter the pricing structure of the market. Whether they will be able to do it or not will be determined in the next four to five quarters, which is when Emkay Brokerage predicts it will achieve it. Jio’s revenue market share without including national long distance is at 39.8%. Vodafone Idea has a share of 28.9% and Bharti Airtel is at 24% for the fourth quarter. However, when including national long distance, Vodafone is the market leader with Jio close behind. Vodafone is ceding the most of its territory to Jio. “VIL lost market share in 14 circles which contribute 50% of its total AGR (adjusted gross revenue), whereas JIO gained market share in these circles,” said a recent report on telecom sector by Emkay Brokers. What’s more worrisome is that Vodafone Idea is losing share in its traditionally strong circles of Mumbai, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh-East and Andhra Pradesh. These four leadership circles contribute to 28% of the merged company’s revenues. In the meanwhile, Jio found a niche in B and C circles, like Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal and Bihar amongst others. Not only does it command number one position in the circles, they contribute to more than half of Jio’s revenue. Yet, Jio is not gaining ground as fast as it did, earlier. “The intensity of RMS gains has decelerated due to slower revenue growth,” Emkay said. A Negative Outlook It is this manner of extreme competition which has worried rating agencies too. CARE recently downgraded its long-term debt to A- from AA-, with a negative outlook. “The negative outlook continues to factor the moderation of operational performance amidst intense prevalent competition in Indian telecom Industry. The competition in the industry has intensified leading to decline in realizations,” CARE said in its report. Improving Margins Vodafone Idea however is setting the stage for improving its margin even in an era where prices for 3G data fell drastically since Reliance Jio’s entry. It introduced a minimum recharge plan of Rs 35 for 28 days, and it lost 53 million subscribers in the fourth quarter. The customers which it lost were those who were using the number for incoming calls only or barely using it. As a result, its average revenue per user (ARPU) went up to ₹104 from ₹89 a quarter earlier. In spite of small victories, Vodafone Idea is a long way from withstanding the onslaught of Reliance Jio’s aggressive tariffs. And Vodafone’s fate will also depend on when, how it will win the price war. “The outlook may be revised to Stable in case it is able to withstand the competition in a more resilient manner and demonstrate improvement in operational and financial performance indicators,” CARE said.

The company recorded a market share of 19% in Q2 2024, down from 20% in Q2 2023. Samsung’s Galaxy A-series recorded strong performance in Q2 2024, followed by the Galaxy S24 series. The company recorded a 16% market share in terms of revenue, down from 17% in Q2 2023. Apple is second in terms of market share, recording a market share of 16% in Q2 2024, down from 17 % in Q2 2023. Apple recorded a 42% share in overall revenue in Q2 2024, down from 45% in Q2 2023. “There were worries that iPhone volumes would disappoint after North American carriers reported record low upgrade rates and lower iPhone sales. We estimate Apple iPhone volumes were flat and revenue declined by 1% YoY despite Pro series sales growth. Apple’s China sales was down 6.5%, but it could have been a lot worse. Apple’s China sales improved due to attractive discounts offered during the 618 shopping festival. The outlook for Apple looks solid as there is more supply chain excitement for the upcoming iPhone 16 family and big expectations for Apple Intelligence,” said Jeff Fieldhack, Research Director, Counterpoint Research.
