In the photo, Siwa donned a t-shirt reading "Best. Gay. Cousin. I think in life you know when you meet your person, I really do."</p><p>When a fan asked Siwa about her sexual identity, she admitted she's not ready to put a label on it yet. <a href="https://www.insider.com/jojo-siwa-coming-out-comes-queer-born-this-way-tiktok-2020" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Fans previously cautioned others not to label Siwa until she does so herself</a>.</p><p>"I have thought about this, but the reason I'm not going to say this answer is because I don't really know this answer," said Siwa. "I think humans are awesome, I think humans are really incredible people. Right now, I'm super-duper happy and I want to share everything with the world but I also want to keep things in my life private until they are ready to be public." </p><p>Siwa added: "Right now what matters is that you guys know that no matter who you love, that it's okay. It's awesome and the world is there for you."</p><p>Siwa said her family has been very supportive of her decision to come out.</p><p>"You know what my dad said? He said, 'Hey man, love is universal.' Data collected by independent metrics source <a href="http://www.gospelstats.com/">GospelStats</a> and published <a href="https://www.tubefilter.com/2020/05/18/top-50-most-viewed-youtube-channels-worldwide-2020-05-18/">by Tubefilter</a> shows videos on the "Cocomelon - Nursery Rhymes" channel received over 1 billion views between May 11, 2020 and May 17, 2020.</p><p>Cocomelon is the most subscribed-to YouTube channel in the United States with more than 82 million subscribers and is surpassed globally by only by PewDiePie (who resides in the UK) and India's T-Series. The jump for Cocomelon to over a billion views was just a 6 percent increase from last week's stats, but the gap between it and runner-up T-Series is much wider – <a href="https://www.tubefilter.com/2020/05/18/top-50-most-viewed-youtube-channels-worldwide-2020-05-18/">according to Tubefilter's</a> Sam Gutelle, "If the difference between Cocomelon's viewership and that of second-place finisher T-Series were its own channel, that channel would be one of the ten most-viewed on YouTube this week."</p><p>In addition to its record-breaking viewership milestone, Cocomelon also accrued another 800,000 subscribers this past week. The channel is run by a couple in Orange County, California who have been producing children's entertainment videos on it since 2006. In February 2020, <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-02-10/popular-youtube-kids-channel-cocomelon-gets-into-merch-and-toys">Bloomberg identified</a> 55-year-old Jay Jeon as the co-owner of Treasure Studio Inc. – which runs Cocomelon – for the first time, along with his wife, who remains anonymous.</p><iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/WRVsOCh907o" frameborder="0"></iframe><p>The Cocomelon channel produces about two videos a week. Each video features a number of recurring animated characters singing along to either a popular nursery rhyme (the most recent video is "Rain Rain Go Away") or an original kid's song. The eight most popular videos on the channel have over 1 billion views each.</p><p>This past week's statistics mean that Cocomelon is accruing approximately 142.8 million views per day, 5.9 million views per hour, and 1,653 views per second, <a href="https://www.tubefilter.com/2020/05/18/top-50-most-viewed-youtube-channels-worldwide-2020-05-18/">according to Tubefilter</a>.</p><h2>The Cocomelon YouTube empire exploded in 2018, after re-branding and embracing a popular 3D animation style.</h2><p>The 3D animation style of Cocomelon videos, along with the network-style branding, developed over 13 years. In, 2018, after re-branding from "ABCkidTV" to "Cocomelon - Nursery Rhymes," YouTube's algorithm began recommending the video "Bath Song +More Nursery Rhymes &amp; Kids Song" more than any other video on the platform, according to <a href="https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2018/11/how-youtubes-algorithm-really-works/575212/">a Pew Research study</a> that tracked nearly 700,000 YouTube suggested videos.</p><p><keyword id="2734963" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="YouTube-Kids">YouTube Kids</keyword>, the platform aimed at restricting content via parental controls for YouTube users under age 12, recommends Cocomelon as one of its top channels for preschool-aged children 4 and younger. </p><p><div type="image" title="YouTube Kids recommends Cocomelon videos to its preschool aged audience." height="1320" width="2876" msid="75856440" hostid="261"></div></p><p>Cocomelon is far from the only kid's channel on YouTube producing nursery rhyme animations and other musical content for children. The roughly 20 employees of Treasure Studio Inc. create similar videos to "El Reino Infantil," "LooLoo Kids - Nursery Rhymes and Children's Songs," "BabyBus - Nursery Rhymes," "Little Baby Bum - Nursery Rhymes &amp; Kids Songs," and "ChuChu TV Nursery Rhymes &amp; Kids Songs."</p><p>All six of those channels placed in the <a href="https://www.tubefilter.com/2020/05/18/top-50-most-viewed-youtube-channels-worldwide-2020-05-18/">top 15 rankings</a> for YouTube viewership this past week, and all have over 10 million subscribers. In total, of the 50 most-viewed YouTube channels this past week, more than half (about 26) channels are explicitly targeted at children or feature predominantly human and animated children in a majority of their YouTube videos. </p><p>According <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-02-10/popular-youtube-kids-channel-cocomelon-gets-into-merch-and-toys">to Bloomberg</a>, Jeon himself is managed by Fullscreen, and his representative at the YouTube management company searches for copycat channels that re-upload Cocomelon's videos. In February 2020, the channel received 2.5 billion views a month on average, earning Treasure Studio Inc. <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-02-10/popular-youtube-kids-channel-cocomelon-gets-into-merch-and-toys">an estimated $11.3 million</a> in monthly ad revenue through Google's AdSense program. </p><p>Cocomelon's audience <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-02-10/popular-youtube-kids-channel-cocomelon-gets-into-merch-and-toys">extends far beyond</a> the reach of Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, PBS, and Disney Channel, and while Jeon has declined past sponsorships, translation deals, investment offers, and merchandising opportunities. At the time, none of her friends used the app, so she felt free to experiment with her content. </p><p>"I had no real plan, but it felt like this little secret place where I could record videos," she told Insider. "I could just post videos and do these characters with no judgment."</p><h2>Her anonymity on the app didn't last long — and now she has 1.2 million enthusiastic followers</h2><p>Unprecedented circumstances during a pandemic provided inspiration for some of Reilly's characters, like "the coworker you hate during a Zoom meeting." I've gotten a lot of comments on videos where people have said I've activated their flight or fight — or that I'm really good at portraying characters that people hate," she said. "I guess as vengeance I make fun of them in a character."</p><p>Reilly says she takes pride in portraying a range of characters, not simply the objectionable coworker or mother. </p><p>"Women are such beautiful, complex beings," she said, "and we have such range in the way in we approach things, so I think there's a lot of material there."</p><p>Her personal favorite character is the charismatic and melodramatic "lounge singer."</p><p>After watching the lounge singer in the movie "Lost in Translation," Reilly felt inspired. </p><p>"The lounge singer is just so funny to me," she said. He said the platform has changed a lot since then, but has also changed a lot in the last year. </li><li>Because of YouTube's automated algorithm, and the constant platform evolution that comes with it, Graceffa said creators like himself often feel <span style="color: #222222;">like they are the primary reason behind why the content that once did well suddenly doesn't work anymore.</span></li><li><a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/prime?module=article&amp;area=summary&amp;r=US&amp;IR=T">Click here for more BI Prime stories.</a></li></ul><p>For a YouTube creator who has been active online for over a decade, it can be challenging to stay relevant in a space they once dominated. </p><p>Internet star Joey Graceffa, who has been posting videos to YouTube for over 10 years, said in an interview with Business Insider that he's struggled with staying in the spotlight on YouTube. </p><p>"It's definitely super frustrating when you're the creator because it's almost like getting the rug pulled out from underneath you," Graceffa told Business Insider. "You're almost at risk of losing your job constantly because you don't really know the rules to the game."</p><p>By "rules to the game" Graceffa is referring to YouTube's rapidly evolving automated algorithm. The algorithm determines which videos will be picked up and recommended to users, based on factors like a video's watchtime and engagement rate. </p><p>Graceffa shared why it can be a challenge for a creator to rely on YouTube and how the platform has contributed to "creator burnout." </p><h2>The challenges that come with relying on YouTube</h2><p>Graceffa has built a lucrative career online, gaining 9.3 million subscribers on <a href="https://www.youtube.com/user/JoeyGraceffa">YouTube</a> and 5.6 million followers on Instagram. He is also a New York Times bestselling author and the driving force behind both the YouTube Originals show "Escape the Night," and his jewelry and product line "Crystal Wolf," all of which have been successful for him because of his initial YouTube fame.</p><p>Graceffa started posting on YouTube before it was owned by Google or ad supported. But though it launched his career, relying on a single platform for money, fame, and success can be fraught, he said.</p><p>"It's definitely evolved into something that I think a lot of people see as an opportunity to make money," he said of YouTube. "Which I think is incredible because it's one of the greatest jobs ever, but it's also a really difficult job to maintain."</p><p>It's difficult to maintain success on YouTube as a creator because the platform is constantly evolving, he said.</p><p>Graceffa, whose videos once pulled 1 million to 2 million average views a video, now struggles to find what elements make for a successful video in 2019. </p><p>"It seems like this past year it's been like a roller coaster, where there's really no rhyme or reason to what makes a video successful," he said. "Once you think you know the rules, the rules change. It's frustrating in that sense, but at the same time, it does keep the job interesting, and it keeps it new and fresh."</p><p>Graceffa said that it wouldn't be interesting for himself, or his followers, if he kept creating the same types of videos again and again. But constant change can also be difficult mentally on the creator because it's "easy for you to feel like it's you that's the problem," when the content that once worked no longer does well for you, he said.</p><p>"It can be really mentally draining and harming to a lot of people, including myself," he said. "You just feel really down on yourself, when suddenly your views drop and it feels like it happened overnight. It triggers you into the mode of, 'oh my god, I have to do more crazy things in my videos. I need a title that's better. I need to clickbait more.' I don't know, it's a weird feeling." </p><p>Graceffa's videos now range drastically in views, from 300,000 views to 5 million views, and he said it's become hard to pinpoint why.</p><h2>On YouTube, longevity can lead to burnout </h2><p>"The burnout isn't just because we are making content," Graceffa said. "It's the fact that we are constantly uploading to this platform that changes so much, that it sometimes feels like you can never fully get a grasp on what you need to do."</p><p>Graceffa said he constantly feels like his brain is on, thinking of what the next thing is. He struggles to separate work from life, and when most people get weekends off, Graceffa finds himself always working. </p><p>"We are constantly stimulating our minds trying to figure out what it is that we have to do to stay afloat, as opposed to how to maintain the types of videos you want," he said. "You almost feel like you have to keep upgrading constantly." </p><p>But Graceffa's YouTube Originals show, "Escape the Night," has been a positive experience for him on the platform, he said.</p><p>"It's so different from other aspects of my business," he said of the show, which is funded directly by YouTube. It's different from the daily video grind of worrying about how many views a video will get.</p><p>But not all creators have the opportunity to create a high-production show with YouTube, which features some of the platform's top creators, like Colleen Ballinger (<a href="https://www.youtube.com/user/mirandasings08">aka Miranda Sings</a>) and <a href="https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxSz6JVYmzVhtkraHWZC7HQ">Liza Koshy</a>, like Graceffa did with "Escape the Night."</p><h2>The pressure is on across social media </h2><p>Graceffa said that for multi-platform creators, the pressure doesn't just come from YouTube, but also from social media.</p><p>"Social media is one of the things I hate the most," he said. "When you think about it, there isn't an end date to social media.
