Kirori Mal College, <keyword id="6360099" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="delhi-university">Delhi University</keyword> has released the first cut-off list 2019 for undergraduate courses. The highest cut-off this year stood at 98.5% for BCom (Hons) while BA English (Hons) and BA Economics (Hons) is 97% and 98.25%, respectively. The admissions under the first cut off will take place from 29 June to 1 July 2019. While the second and third cut-off list will be announced on 4 July and 9 July, respectively. Located in North Campus, Delhi University, the college is the third most preferred among the university colleges. None of the <keyword id="6360099" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi-University">Delhi University</keyword> colleges have kept the ceiling at 100 per cent in their first cut-off list for admission to undergraduate courses. 
 
This is not to say that the cut-offs are low this time, they have just recorded a slight dip from last year. 
 
This is what the first cut-off list looks like:

 The cut-off for <keyword id="6417880" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="hansraj-college">Hansraj College</keyword> has remained unchanged across stream with Eco(H) being the highest at 98 per cent. 
 
Sri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), ranked among the best in the country for higher studies in Commerce and Economics, announced its cut off at 98.25 per cent for Economics Honours and 98 per cent for BCom Honours. 
 
Miranda House cutoff for science courses is also same as last year with the highest being for Economics Honours at 97.75 per cent. 
 
Lady Sri Ram College has announced its cut-off for Psychology at (98.50 pc), English (98.25 pc), Economics (98 pc) and Commerce (H) (98pc). 
 
 
Why taking admission in the first list is VERY important 
You may not get the course or college of your choice, but not taking admission in the first list and waiting for the second list is a risk not worth taking. 
 
If you get a college and a course of your choice, there’s nothing like it! However, if you are facing a tricky situation like you can get admission in a course of her choice but not in a college you want to study in, the best bet is to still go ahead! 
 
This is because of two reasons: One that university counselors for years have been saying that students should always opt for course over college because even as there is difference in faculty of various colleges, picking a course over a college will give you an opportunity to study something that you are interested in. If you are considering the reputation of a college, it is only going to help you make an impression for three years and is not a long term benefitting approach. Notably, all colleges in DU follow the same curriculum and teachers are selected based on the same criteria. 
 
Secondly, all DU colleges follow a policy where applicants who were eligible but did not take admission under the first list in a particular college, will not be given consideration in the second cutoff list unless they have seats left. That means if in the second cut off list you do not get a lucrative option, and want to go back to the option in the first cut-off list, there are high chances that it may not be possible. However, if you take admission in a course you are eligible in in the first list, and make it to a college of your choice with the desired course in the second list, it’s a win-win situation because then you can go to the college, make sure you are eligible and then withdraw admission from the first college. 
 
When do you choose a college over course 
The only case in which you should choose a college over a course is of you are totally unsure about the course you want to pursue. 
 
When nothing seems to be working out, this will! 
There are five cut-off lists in total and with each list, the chances of making it to a DU college improves. However, if luck is not in your favour, there’s no reason for you to worry. You can apply to the School of Open Learning as a back-up which has BA (honours) Political Science, English and B Com, BA Programme and BA Programme courses. The admission application process hasn’t started yet, so keep your eyes out on this one!

14 students, 12 of whom are girls, have secured admission in popular North campus colleges out of the 78 students who appeared for class XII examination from Seelampur slum area. 
 The highest scorer Saugatha has managed to secure a seat in Urdu Honours in <keyword id="117655" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Kirori-Mal-College">Kirori Mal College</keyword> at 86.5 per cent. Her father is a street vendor. 
 
Even as the credit goes to these hard working students who have made their basti proud, significant efforts by an NGO called Asha in educating the slum children and helping them achieve higher education, has been instrumental in helping such bright kids enter Delhi University year-on-year. 
 
Last year, a whopping 114 students guided by this NGO had made the cut. Sandeep, with 94% marks, got the highest score in this group in 2015. He lived in a slum in north Delhi’s Peeragarhi and managed to secure a seat in Rajdhani College for B.Com (Hons). The year before, in 2014, least 150 slum kids got admission in DU. 
 
For these students, the main difficulty was not just to get resources to study, but a larger battle of convincing parents to allow them to pursue education as against using them to start earning and contributing to the family income. For Asha the NGO, there have been such challenges of counseling the family, especially that of girls, before they can start educating and preparing the kid for exams. Their help then extends to dressing them up with new clothes, planning their travel, helping them fill college admission forms, get educational loans for those who wish to study in private colleges. 
 
Since 2008, Asha has been helping students from the slums to go to university. In the first batch, 20 students had got admission in DU and the numbers have been increasing since then. Although this year the students qualifying to DU are less than last year, its too early to say because three cut-off lists are still awaited.

Students' groups on Monday staged protests here against <keyword id="9318857" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-delhi-university">the Delhi University</keyword> (DU) administration over the high cut-offs announced for <keyword id="2270571" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="undergraduate-admission">undergraduate admission</keyword>. The protests were held by <keyword id="10094462" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-krantikari-yuva-sangathan">the Krantikari Yuva Sangathan</keyword> (KYS) and the Left-affiliated Students' Federation of India (SFI). They alleged that high cut-offs favour students of big private schools and demanded more transparency in the admission process. DU announced its first cut-off list for undergraduate admission on Saturday with Lady Shri Ram (LSR) College for Women pegging the score at 100 per cent for three Honours courses. The 100 per cent cut-off for undergraduate admissions in DU comes after a gap of five years. Activists of the KYS burnt an effigy of the cut-off list to highlight its "discriminatory nature" and demanded that it be done away with immediately, the students' group said in a statement. "This cut-off that is decided on the basis of marks scored by students of big private schools is nothing but a policy of ensuring that the most marginalised student does not have any access to quality higher education. This ensures that students who bear the brunt of substandard public-funded school education are turned away from public-funded universities," they said. KYS activists were detained by police during the protest. Twenty activists of the KYS were protesting at the Arts Faculty, North Campus, a senior police officer said. "Eight of them were detained when they refused to disperse. They were taken to Maurice Nagar police station," the officer said. Meanwhile, the SFI submitted a memorandum to the university vice chancellor "regarding the unfair and unjustifiably high cut-offs for undergraduate admissions," it said in a statement. The memorandum was submitted by SFI Delhi president Sumit Kataria, it said. "We strongly demand a transparent admission process and we stand firmly against such exclusionary methods that only favour the high society," it added. While the 100 per cent cut-offs have been a matter of debate, the required marks were expected to be higher this year as over 1.84 lakh students scored above 90 per cent and more than 41,000 students scored above 95 per cent marks in CBSE Class 12 exams. LSR College has pegged 100 per cent score for three courses for general category aspirants -- BA (Hons) Economics, BA (Hons) Political Science and BA (Hons) Psychology. The college has the highest cut-off among Science courses as well. It has announced a cut-off of 99.75 per cent for admission to B.Sc (Hons) Statistics for general category students, while Hindu College has pegged the score for the same course at 99.25 per cent. As many as 130 students received job offers at SRCC. “We haven't seen an overall impact of the slowdown in placements. The number of companies coming has more or less remained the same since last year, however the number of students that were made an offer to have increased,” Kanika K Ahuja, placement in-charge at LSR told ET. The students who get admission to these Delhi University-affiliated colleges have to score over 95% in the 12th grade — due to high cut-offs. Among the top recruiters were Gartner, EY, PwC, Deloitte, KPMG, Samsung and Accenture. The growing trend of summer placements The growing trend of summer placements and pre-placement offers too might have had an effect on the increased interest of recruiters. Companies like Deutsche Bank, Citi Bank are also banking on summer placements to assess talent, thereby extending pre-placement offers. Delhi University students bag job offers that pay as much as ₹31 lakh per annum

Yes, that's because DU Open Days/Open House has kick-started officially starting today, and is inviting aspirants and parents to attend the sessions for clarity on admission queries. 
 
Caution - If you are an outstation candidate who wants to get into this University, it's not a good idea to sit at home till the cut-off lists are out. 
You may be thinking that the application procedure going online buys you sometime, however, the fact is this is the most crucial time for you to visit the University. Moreover, logging onto the website to expect your questions will be answered online is a waste of time, because the site has not been updated since last year. 
 
"Students do not realize that this provision is to tell them the best they can get. If you miss out and find yourself not getting into a good college with a course of your choice, as per your knowledge it's likely to get you in depression. In extreme cases, students commit suicide for no reason. DU Open Days calls students with parents so that both can be counseled on what is best for the child and especially for those who may not have performed very well in Class 12. DU has 61 colleges and 60,000 seats! There's a place for everyone. We call them to change their mindset and show them that there are options galore and there's nothing to worry. Of course the idea of Open Days is also to give clarity to all students about admissions too," says a DU counselor. 
 
In a recently held session at Khalsa College, students were able to get clarity on a lot of things like - Will mathematics be compulsory for economics honours aspirants? Will a candidate be allowed to take economics even if she has not studied the subject in Class XII? Legal studies and Mass media studies are to be considered as academic subject or electives? 
 
The session informed students that to keep the system centralized, the university has done away with entrance tests in various courses barring courses like Bachelor in Business Economics and Bachelor in Finance and Investment. For students seeking admission through sports quota, fitness test has now been centralized. While the best of four criteria which includes one language and three academic subjects, remains the same as last year; 2.5 % points will be deducted from them, if the subject applied for is not included in vocational subject. Besides, 10 marks will be deducted for every vocational course not included. Also, there will be a maximum penalty for a stream change in case of BA and B.Com honors courses. 
 
DU's Open House Days can therefore go a long way in helping students clear doubts, and figure out what could suit them the best as per their stream, scores and ambitions. Nobody else may be able to answer you on the most unexpected questions than people here, so why waste this chance. From the calculation of best-four percentage to the best college for a particular course, you can throw endless queries for DU officials to answer during the session. 
 
If you aspire to get into say an Economic Honours course with a 94% marks in Class 12 (Commerce Stream), they may be able to tell you - keeping in view the previous cutoffs - the best colleges you could keep an eye on in the cut-off lists. At the same time, if you are clueless about the course and college both, they will suggest you both. You will not only get an idea of what different courses teach, but also the courses you can apply for in various colleges (the best ones to the average ones) as per your performance/stream/interest. It's to lay down all the probabilities you have in front of you, so you can decide what's the best way to take. 
Remember, the staff at DU Open Days are very well versed with the DU cut-offs. They will make sure you have a clear direction in mind as you leave the session. Additionally, you can also learn about things you may not even thought of asking, but may be crucial for you to know - new admission procedure, important dates and eligibility criteria. Not everything can be found online or by calling the helpline numbers. It's therefore necessary you head to Open House if you don't want to be running around at the end figuring out where to apply when you are not qualifying for the colleges you want to get into.

This year, the admission process is completely being held online and the university has advised students not to visit colleges in person. The university had announced its first cut-off list on Saturday with Lady Shri Ram College pegging the cut-offs for three honours courses at 100 per cent. Shobha Bagai, dean (admissions), said the admission process started at 10 am. She said there are admission branch officials, grievance redressal officials and nodal officers for each college to assist students in the admission process. The official said the guidelines to complete the admission process and calculate the best of four marks have been uploaded on the website and there is an online calculator to help students to calculate whether their best of four marks meet the cut-off criteria of the respective college. The 100 per cent cut-off for undergraduate admissions in Delhi University comes after a gap of five years. The central university's cut-off had last touched the 100 per cent mark in 2015. <keyword id="903643" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Lady-Shri-Ram-College-for-Women">Lady Shri Ram College For Women</keyword> has pegged 100 per cent score for three courses for general category aspirants -- BA (Hons) Economics, BA (Hons) Political Science and BA (Hons) Psychology. Delhi University begins its first fully online admission process

And strikingly, 110 students from Tamil Nadu have made it the BCom (H) course of the college, which has total 160 seats for the same course.

Well, it gets more interesting here as 50 of these students belong from one school-Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in Erode. 
 R P Rastogi, principal, <keyword id="6363378" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="SRCC">SRCC</keyword>, told TOI, “All admissions have been done on merit." 
 
However, teachers say these students appeared to be quite average. 
 
But, there are no such doubts in the minds of the teachers at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan as last year, 36 of its students made it to SRCC and in 2014, 28 students took admission in SRCC. 
 
"Of late Shri Ram College in Delhi and Christ College in Bangalore have been big attractions for our students. SRCC is known for admissions based purely on merit and this is an advantage for us as we produce many centum scorers," N S Karthikeyani,Principal, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, told TOI. 
 "Maybe the questions at SRCC were presented in a way our students are not used to,” said PC Jain, who had conducted nine admission sessions as former principal of the college, adding “with <keyword id="6360099" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Delhi-University">Delhi University</keyword> becoming an attractive proposition, education boards of other states went into competitive mode to assure admissions for their students by giving them high marks.”

According to SRCC, there was a 32% increase in the average package and a 25% increase in its median package in the year 2019-20, in comparison to last year. Placements during a pandemic SRCC is one of the top commerce institutions in India. For students to get admission into the college, they have to score over 95% in 12th grade just to get in. And, the cut-offs are only increasing every year. The first phase of the placement drive at SRCC began in December with as many as 130 students receiving job offers. The highest package offered in the first phase was ₹31 lakh a year. The second drive was scheduled in January. However, once the coronavirus pandemic kicked in, it slowed down the process. Moreover, offers of 13 students who were placed in the first phase of the placement drive were either revoked or delayed. Despite the slowdown, it held the second phase of the placement drive and managed to get over 225 job offers from 120 recruiters for its undergraduate students. Around 554 students from the batch 2020, were registered with SRCC’s Placement Cell for jobs and internships. “It was quite challenging to be able to digitalise the entire process quickly and seamlessly, given that COVID had taken a drastic toll on the recruitment sector,” Vikram Nanda, Chief Secretary of the placement cell at SRCC, said in a statement. SRCC has further managed to get new offers for some of the students whose offers were revoked in the first drive. “As a team, we were happy with the fact that our statistics were still on a gradual rise and didn’t record any fall amidst the hiring freeze,” said Nanda. SRCC is now developing a virtual recruitment portal for the upcoming placement drive for the year 2020-21. They say they are very optimistic about the upcoming season and expect increased participation in online hiring as well. It is expecting McKinsey and Kearney, and FTI Consulting to make an offer to their undergraduate students in the upcoming season. Currently, 516 students from the batch of 2021 are registered with the placement cell.
