Hiring for roles in artificial intelligence (AI) and Oil &amp; Gas sectors has witnessed a growth of over 20 per cent in the month of February 2024, a new report showed on Monday. According to the Naukri JobSpeak Index, AI-related roles such as Machine Learning Engineer and Full Stack AI Scientist jumped a staggering 100 per cent and 44 per cent, respectively, in February 2024 vs last year. In the Oil &amp; Gas sector, hiring increased by 21 per cent in February this year compared to last year. Maruti Suzuki expands its ‘subscribe’ service to Mumbai, Chennai, Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar

<keyword id="6356847" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="gandhinagar">Gandhinagar</keyword>, The <keyword id="6370685" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Gujarat-government">Gujarat government</keyword> on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the private infrastructure company, <keyword id="10640651" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Adani-Port-SEZ-ltd">Adani Port &amp; SEZ Ltd</keyword>., to setup the country's largest multi-modal <keyword id="406927" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="logistics-park">logistics park</keyword> at Sanand with an estimated investment of ₹50,000 crore. The proposed 1,450 acre park will have a dedicated air cargo complex with 4.6 km long runway to handle even large sized cargo aircraft and will offer direct air, rail and road connectivity. It will also have a provision of direct rail connectivity with dedicated freight corridor which is part of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC). It will have potential to generate direct and indirect employment for 25,000 persons. According to the state government, the project will be completed in a phased manner in three years as the work will commence within six months after obtaining required clearances and permissions. There will be a 90 lakh sq ft warehouse zone with facilities such as air freight station, grade-A warehouse, cold storage among others in the park. The warehouse will have 38 lakh sq ft space for textile, bulk, e-commerce, nine lakh sq ft space for bonder warehouse, four lakh grade-A palatized facility and 60,000 temperature controlled palletized facility. Against 3.3 lakh capacity, a container yard in this park will have four handling lines with TEU (twenty ft equivalents). The park will have three lakh square feet of space for business and skill development centre. The Central government has sanctioned ₹2 lakh crore for setting up of multi-modal mega logistics parks in 34 cities of the country. Cities like Vijayawada, Chennai, Nagpur, Bengaluru, Surat, Hyderabad and Gauhati are selected among others. Six cities of Gujarat are selected, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat,Bharuch, Valsad and Kandla, where these projects will be set up on a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model. 60 per cent of the cargo in the country is transferred via road. The transportation cost is 14% of the GDP in the country, which the Central government wants to bring down to 7%. Gujarat government signs pact with Adani Port to setup largest multi-modal logistics park

Wearing masks and maintaining social distancing is a must for students, teachers and other staff members, and everyone entering the schools and colleges is being checked using thermal guns, state Education Minister Bhupendrasinh Chudasama told reporters. Various state ministers and BJP MLAs remained present at different schools in Gujarat to welcome the students, a release from the state government said. Chudasama welcomed students at a school in Kalol town of <keyword id="6356847" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="gandhinagar">Gandhinagar</keyword>, while Minister of State for Home Pradeepsinh Jadeja was present at a school in Vastral area of Ahmedabad to greet students. "There is great enthusiasm among students as schools and colleges are reopening after a long COVID-19 vacation. Apart from reopening colleges for final year under-graduate and post-graduate students, we have decided to open schools for classes 10 and 12 because of the upcoming board exams," Chudasama said. Managements of schools have already been instructed to strictly follow Centre's standard operating procedures to check the spread of COVID-19, he said. Following a significant drop in the number of new COVID-19 cases being reported daily, the state cabinet last week decided to reopen schools for Classes 10 and 12, and colleges for the final year graduation and PG students. It was also announced that students attending schools must get the consent of their parents. The government had also made it clear that attendance will not be mandatory and online classes will continue. Schools, colleges and university campuses across the state were shut after the outbreak of coronavirus in the state in March-end last year. Since then, classes are being held online. Though the government had earlier decided to reopen secondary schools and colleges after the Diwali vacation last year, it eventually dropped the idea following a sudden spike in the daily coronavirus cases at that time. Later, the number of new cases being reported daily started declining from mid-December. As against 1,500 to 1,600 cases emerging in a day in October and November last year, around 700 cases are getting registered daily at present. Gujarat schools and colleges reopen after nine months of COVID-19 restrictions

He was released on the surety that he would also give them an additional ₹320 million through hawala. Acting on a complaint by the businessman on 23 February, Ashish Bhatia, the director general of police, Crime Investigation Department (CID) told <a href="https://www.hindustantimes.com/india-news/eight-gujarat-cops-booked-for-forcing-man-to-transfer-bitcoins-worth-rs-12-cr/story-qY20AbWcLG3ZUzPuxEl5DI.html" data-type="tilCustomLink">Hindustan Times</a> that, “Two policemen — constables Babu Der and Vijay Vadher — were arrested today (08 April). All other accused have gone underground. Efforts are on to nab them.” In all, eight police officers have been booked for the crime and Anant Patel, Amreli local crime branch unit inspector, is the main accused in the case. The incident took place on 11 February, when the businessman was apparently asked to get to <keyword id="6356847" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="gandhinagar">Gandhinagar</keyword> by the policemen. He was then abducted and taken to a farmhouse where he was strong-armed into transferring the <keyword id="6354947" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="bitcoin">Bitcoin</keyword>s to an unidentified account. And though there is no evidence of the Bitcoin transfer, according to Bhatia, the accuser’s other claims have checked out. What is unclear, however, is why was Shailesh Bhatt picked for this crime. There is a distinct possibility that he was targeted because he himself may have stolen the Bitcoin from someone else. To which, Bhatia said, “Even if there was an application against Bhatt, it should have been forwarded to the superintendent of police or some higher authority for investigation,” The CID has formed a team to probe this high profile case.

After coming to the bank with 500 notes, she filled the mandatory form, put her thumb impression on it and successfully exchanged her money. 
 
After receiving the new Rs 2,000 note, she also displayed it in front of the media. In the process, Heeraben also unknowingly set an example for the rest of the citizens, with many on the internet applauding her simplicity.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother sets an example by exchanging old notes at Gandhinagar bank

The Human Resource Development recently released the list of best Indian universities for this year, and the list of Top 10 Engineering institutes in India is filled with <keyword id="49737" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="IITs">IITs</keyword>, from top to bottom. Outreach and inclusivity, along with global footprint, are the parameters on which every institute was ranked and would be ranked in future, for which the institutes need to go global. 
 
Needless to say, the relatively younger IITs, having secured places in the list, are now looking at ways to boost their academic brand in the best way possible, for which they have identified a target area of bringing in world class faculty. 
 For this, the IITs are looking forward to hiring faculty from foreign countries. For example, <keyword id="222212" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="IIT-Ropar">IIT Ropar</keyword>, having secured the 9th place in the top 10 list, will start hiring from three countries and six locations next month, all the way from London to Los Angeles. 
 Similarly, <keyword id="656784" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="IIT-Gandhinagar">IIT Gandhinagar</keyword>, the 8th ranked institute in the list, will be hiring a bulk of its assistant professor level faculty from foreign universities. 
 
While hiring, the institutes would focus on Indian students doing a post doctoral in reputed engineering schools abroad. After interviewing probable candidates, they might even issue an appointment letter then and there. 
 
For the best hiring process, the hiring teams from IIT Ropar would have its Director and Dean, three external experts from IISc, IIT, Delhi, and IIT, Roorkee.

Global footprint requirement forces IITs to hire faculty from foreign shores

NEW DELHI: <keyword id="6355261" type="POSITION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Finance-minister">Finance minister</keyword> <keyword id="43940" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="P-Chidambaram">P Chidambaram</keyword> has opted out of the <keyword id="6355187" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Lok-Sabha">Lok Sabha</keyword> contest, with <keyword id="1575" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="80" keywordseo="Congress">Congress</keyword> announcing his son Karthi as the candidate from Sivaganga constituency in Tamil Nadu. Kirit Patel will take on BJP patriarch LK Advani in <keyword id="6356847" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="gandhinagar">Gandhinagar</keyword> in Gujarat. 
 The passing of baton in Sivaganga caps the intense speculation on <keyword id="6362104" type="PERSON" weightage="60" keywordseo="Chidambaram">Chidambaram</keyword>’s candidature in the wake of Congress’s bleak prospects in the state owing to its failure to find an ally. Congress fought the last two elections with DMK and reaped a rich tally, disproportionate to its weak organizational muscle in the state. 
 
The leg-up for the GenNext extends to another of the state’s political family. Mohan Kumaramangalam, son of former Union minister Rangarajan Kumaramangalam, is the rookie to contest from Salem. 
 In what may have the making of an interesting contest, Laxman Singh has been named from Vidisha to take on leader of opposition in Lok Sabha <keyword id="6355111" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Sushma-Swaraj">Sushma Swaraj</keyword> in Madhya Pradesh. Singh is a former MP and the brother of AICC general secretary <keyword id="43786" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Digvijay-Singh">Digvijay Singh</keyword>. 
 
Congress announced sitting MPs Ramesh Kumar and Mahabal Mishra from South Delhi and West Delhi, a decision which means that all seven party MPs from the capital would be taking the field in the Lok Sabha polls. 
 
The names of Kumar and Mishra were held back in the earlier list which gave the go ahead to five other MPs, raising the possibility of their being replaced. However, the party leadership has settled for the status quo, finding that any attempt to change the candidate would skew the caste balance it wants in its representation in the apital. 
 The reprieve for the two comes after Congress mulled possible options to sitting MPs. The <keyword id="447980" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Central-Election-Committee">Central Election Committee</keyword> of the party had taken exception to the routine manner in which the MPs were recommended for renomination and had asked the Delhi managers to submit a panel of possible candidates. 
 
Union health minister and senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad would contest from Udhampur in Jammu and Kashmir. He replaces MP Lal Singh Chaudhary. 
 
Congress has also replaced Paranjayadityasinh Parmar from Panchmahals in Gujarat with Ramsingh Parmar. Paranjayaditya is the son-in-law of Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh and his nomination in the previous list of candidates had sparked unrest, leading to clarification from the state leadership that it was an oversight. 
 <keyword id="6364961" type="POSITION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Rajya-Sabha-MP">Rajya Sabha MP</keyword> and former union minister Mani Shankar Aiyer will contest from Mayiladuthurai that he represented in Lok Sabha before losing in 2009. 
 
Expelled JD(U) MP Purnmasi Ram will be the Congress candidate from Gopalganj reserved seat in Bihar. Also, Congress’s Tsering Samphel will contest from Ladakh seat in J&amp;K.

Running Scared? Chidambaram Opts Out Of Lok Sabha Battle, Congress Fields His Son

NEW DELHI: BJP appeared to be bracing for fresh turmoil in the run-up to <keyword id="6355187" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Lok-Sabha">Lok Sabha</keyword> polls after L K Advani expressed disinclination to seek re-election from <keyword id="6356847" type="CITY" weightage="40" keywordseo="gandhinagar">Gandhinagar</keyword> in Narendra Modi-ruled Gujarat. 
 Although the central leadership turned down the request and sought to put a lid on the matter by announcing Advani’s candidature from Gandhinagar, the party leadership was keeping its fingers crossed. According to late-night reports, Advani has indicated that he would rather wait for the party central election committee to respond to his request to contest from <keyword id="6355556" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="bhopal">Bhopal</keyword>. 
 Advani’s desire, conveyed to <keyword id="114039" type="POSITION" weightage="40" keywordseo="BJP-chief">BJP chief</keyword> <keyword id="6355121" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Rajnath-Singh">Rajnath Singh</keyword> on Monday, to switch constituencies came as a surprise to the party because of his consistent public stand that he would fight only from Gandhinagar: the constituency which he has won since 1991. He had stated this as recently as on February 28 when the party announced its first list of candidates. 
 
The decision of the central election committee came after day-long drama that seemed to bring to the fore the bitter resistance of a section in BJP to Modi’s leadership. The saffron senior kept away from the deliberations on the ground that his candidature was under discussion even as reports swirled through the day about his reluctance to contest from Gandhinagar. 
 After the committee’s meeting, senior leaders <keyword id="6355111" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Sushma-Swaraj">Sushma Swaraj</keyword> and <keyword id="26680" type="PERSON" weightage="40" keywordseo="Nitin-gadkari">Nitin Gadkari</keyword> met Advani to convey the party’s decision. General secretary Thawarchand Gehlot soon announced the decision to signal that the nomination for Gandhinagar, so far as the leadership is concerned, was a closed chapter.

 Yet, there was wariness about what Advani might do, with party circles speculating whether the <keyword id="6355554" type="COMPANY" weightage="40" keywordseo="Madhya-Pradesh">Madhya Pradesh</keyword> unit may recommend him for the Bhopal seat. 
 
Amid growing uncertainty, Modi had a meeting with RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat at the Sangh’s Jhandewalan office in the capital. Several assumptions were being put forward in party circles for Advani’s desire to move away from Gandhinagar after having often emphasized his closed links to Gujarat, saying his family had settled there after moving from Karachi and it was home. 
 Many in the party felt the attempted switch was meant to signal his autonomy of Modi and to emphasize that he could win from any constituency of his choice. With Madhya Pradesh already playing host to Sushma Swaraj, who represents Vidisha and whose equations with Modi are seen as tense, the desire to move to Bhopal was also suspected to be an attempt to raise a parallel axis vis-à-vis the ascendant troika of Modi, party chief Rajnath Singh and <keyword id="19496" type="POSITION" weightage="40" keywordseo="leader">leader</keyword> of opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley. 
 Party circles have for some time sniffed an effort to set up <keyword id="6355553" type="POSITION" weightage="40" keywordseo="MP">MP</keyword> chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan as a counterpoint to Modi. The tussle in the party over Modi’s projection as PM candidate saw Advani suggesting that Chouhan’s performance as CM surpassed Modi’s as Chouhan had turned around Madhya Pradesh which, unlike Gujarat, was a BIMARU state. 
 
Some in the party also saw the move to shift constituency as reflective of Advani camp’s fear that his campaign may be subverted by workers who may look to proactively scuttle any post-poll trouble for Modi. Although Modi camp would have ensured that Advani won comfortably to ward off the charge of sabotage, workers remain apprehensive of the intent of Modi’s opponents in the party. 
 Fearing that Advani’s shfit to Bhopal could be projected as another instance of senior leaders being humiliated under the Modi-Rajanth dispensation, the official faction had swung into action to dissuade Advani soon after he conveyed his keenness on Bhopal. The <keyword id="1589638" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Gujarat-party">Gujarat party</keyword> recommended just Advani’s name for Gandhinagar on Monday. On Tuesday, former party MP from Gujarat Vijay Rupani publicized the state unit’s insistence that the party veteran stick with Gandhinagar. 
 
Sources close to the leadership saw the sudden change in Advani’s preference as underscoring the tenacity of the resistance that Modi faces from “determined hold-outs”. In recent weeks, Swaraj openly opposed the decision to re-admit Karnataka leader B Sriramulu. She not only tweeted her reservations but followed that up with another tweet after Sriramulu joined the party. 
 
But just as it has firmly overruled the protests of senior leaders like M M Joshi who had to make way for Modi in Varanasi, the ascendant BJP leadership does not seem ready to cater to Advani’s bid to shift to Bhopal. 
 
The meeting of the election committee saw several attendees emphasizing the point that the Gujarat unit had unanimously endorsed him as the candidate for Gandhinagar. 
 
Whether Advani, having “recused” himself from the meeting on the ground that it would be improper for him to participate in the deliberations when his name was under consideration, will insist on having his way despite the decision remains a tricky question. 
 
However, the way the battle of wits ends will be shaped by what stance Chouhan takes, particularly whether Sangh uses its leverage with him to nip any trouble from the Madhya Pradesh unit.

Turmoil In BJP Over Advani’s Bid To Shift To Bhopal

Gandhinagar: The <keyword id="19895344" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Enforcement-Directorate" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Enforcement Directorate" meta.hostid="83" meta.entityid="Enforcement Directorate">Enforcement Directorate</keyword> on Thursday conducted multi-city searches in Gujarat in connection with a <keyword id="19899231" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="money-laundering" source="keywords">money laundering</keyword> case linked to a GST "fraud" in which eight people, including a journalist, were arrested recently by the state police, official sources said. About 23 premises in cities of Rajkot, Junagadh, Ahmedabad, Bhavnagar and Veraval were being raided by the federal agency after a case was filed under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), the sources said. Premises linked to arrested journalist <keyword id="23517167" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Mahesh-Langa" source="keywords">Mahesh Langa</keyword>, who works with <keyword id="21256671" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="The-Hindu" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="The Hindu" meta.hostid="83" meta.entityid="The Hindu">The Hindu</keyword> newspaper, were also being covered. The money laundering case stems from an FIR of the Ahmedabad Police Crime Branch. The city Crime Branch registered the FIR against several persons and entities after getting a complaint from the Central GST over an alleged scam involving shell firms set up to defraud the government through <keyword id="23577822" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bogus-input-tax-credits" source="keywords">bogus input tax credits</keyword> and fraudulent transactions. Langa along with seven others was arrested after the Central GST found some suspicious transactions in bogus firms floated in the name of his wife and father using forged documents. After the registration of the FIR, the Crime Branch and Gujarat's Economic Offences Wing raided 14 locations across the state, including in Ahmedabad, Junagadh, Surat, Kheda and Bhavnagar. According to the Crime Branch, more than 200 fraudulently created firms worked across the country in an organised manner to defraud the government exchequer by availing bogus input tax credits and forged documents and identities were used to create these firms for tax evasion.
