New Delhi, Dec 14 () India is among the top 10 nations as per the Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI) which is based parameters like renewable power and energy use efficiency, Power Minster R K Singh said on Saturday.
<p> This assumes significance in view of India's resolve to reach 175 GW of clean energy capacity by 2022. The country has already achieved around 84 GW of clean energy capacity, including 32 GW of solar and 37 GW of wind energy.
</p><p> At present, India's total installed power generation capacity is around 365 GW.
</p><p> "I am happy to share that as per CCPI report, released during COP 2019 at Madrid, India is ranked among the top 10 countries in CCPI, which was released after analysing four parameters, that is green house gases emission, renewable energy, climate change and energy use," Singh said while addressing the 29th National Energy Conservation Awards ceremony in the capital.
</p><p> The minister said 355 industrial units and other establishments have participated in the awards and have collectively achieved savings of Rs 5,283 crore by saving 105.66 billion units of electricity.
</p><p> This year, energy conservation was celebrated through week-long activities culminating in the National Energy Conservation Day on Saturday.
</p><p> Singh highlighted the importance of energy conservation in the country's sustainable development approach.
</p><p> He emphasised the need for taking measures in order to reduce carbon dioxide emissions so as to minimise the adverse impact of climate change.
</p><p> The power minister also lauded the efforts of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency and complimented the industry for making sincere efforts in implementing various schemes.
</p> On the occasion, Star Labelling Programme for solar water heaters was launched and a handbook for implementation of provisions of Energy Conservation Act 2001 was released.  KKS  ABM

India among top 10 nations on climate change performance index: Power Min

Adani Transmission Ltd (<keyword id="447291" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="atl" source="Orion">ATL</keyword>), India's largest private power distribution company and the transmission arm of the diversified <keyword id="6367820" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="adani-group" source="Orion">Adani Group</keyword>, has submitted its Green House Gases (GHG) emission reduction plans, focussing on Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), an international drive for containing global warming.<br /><br />ATL has submitted its detailed plan and targets for GHG emission reduction to SBTi within one year towards its commitment to contribute to contain global warming.<br /><br />As a part of its continued focus on sustainable growth and its net zero journey, ATL committed for the SBTi in October 2021. ATL will act in alignment with the much-needed climate action and devise a strategy to restrict global warming to 1.5 degree Celsius.<br /><br />To meet these targets associated with the SBTi commitment, ATL has rolled out definite strategies. In a first-of-its-kind initiative in the country, ATL's subsidiary AEML (Adani Electricity Mumbai Ltd) has introduced green tariffs, which enables AEML consumers to opt for green energy and receive a Green Power Certificate every month. This initiative is popular with consumers who wish to reduce their carbon footprint.<br /><br />"We take seriously all initiatives focused on contributing to India's climate commitment through resolute climate action," said <keyword id="175186" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="anil-sardana" source="Orion">Anil Sardana</keyword>, MD &amp; CEO, Adani Transmission Ltd. "Submitting targets for the SBTi reiterates our commitment to devising sustainable ways of doing business. It also reinforces India's efforts to reduce climate risk through individual and collective action. A culmination of several smaller actions such as energy efficiency initiatives at sub-stations, de-linking of substations from the grid for auxiliary power while connecting them with solar energy, and introduction of efficient transmission lines aimed at reducing losses, combined with wider actions such as introduction of green tariff at AEML, will significantly contribute towards achieving positive climate action."<br /><br />Signing up for the SBTi is an important step in the context of India's commitments to the Paris Climate Agreement. ATL became a signatory of UN Energy Compact at COP26 held in Glasgow in 2021. Through SBTi, companies are setting science-based emissions reduction targets - across their entire value chain - that are consistent with keeping global warming at 1.5 degree Celsius above pre-industrial levels. SBTi committed companies get 24 months to submit their targets. ATL, after committing to SBTi in Oct 2021, is one of the few companies to submit the emission reduction targets within one year.<br /><br />SBTi is a collaboration between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (<keyword id="1044129" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="wri" source="Orion">WRI</keyword>) and the <keyword id="62483" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="world-wide-fund-for-nature" source="Orion">World Wide Fund for Nature</keyword> (<keyword id="18630" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="wwf" source="Orion">WWF</keyword>). Adani Transmission to become net-zero by 2050

Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries, <keyword id="2627479" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="prahlad-singh-patel" source="Orion">Prahlad Singh Patel</keyword> on Thursday said that the Centre will encourage and promote not just the production of millets but also processed millet products for the global market.<br /><br />"Next year, i.e. 2023, is the International Year of Millets. <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> produces 40 per cent of world's millets. Our government has made tremendous efforts to promote millets and not just for production but also for processed millet foods for supplying to international markets," Patel told mediapersons.<br /><br />Patel was speaking on the sidelines of the first Plant-Based Foods Summit organised by Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI), Agriculture &amp; Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (<keyword id="60672" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="apeda" source="Orion">APEDA</keyword>), and Plant Based Foods Industry <keyword id="6356105" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="association" source="Orion">Association</keyword> (<keyword id="14035967" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="pbfia" source="Orion">PBFIA</keyword>).<br /><br />In his speech, he batted for millets and spoke of the parameters and enabling factors by APEDA for millets and plant-based food and such processed food.<br /><br />"Our Ministry has been allotted over Rs 10,000 crore for promotion of this kind of food. The only condition is that the company should be Indian," Patel said, and gave example of several traditional Indian food items that just "need to be validated by scientific documentation of traditional practices".<br /><br />"India has traditionally been a supporter of plant-based food. It has been our strength," the Minister said and assured support for the plant-based industry.<br /><br /><keyword id="118292" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="sanjay-sethi" source="Orion">Sanjay Sethi</keyword>, Exective Director of PBFIA, appealed to the animal-based food industry "to not look at us as competitors but rather as a younger brother" and also suggested hand-holding for the nascent industry.<br /><br />With sustainability and human health as key driving forces behind the activities of the Association, the foremost aim of PBFIA is to make plant-based foods mainstream while providing new avenues for economic growth.<br /><br /><keyword id="14035966" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="inoshi-sharma" source="Orion">Inoshi Sharma</keyword>, Executive Director, <keyword id="154680" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="fssai" source="Orion">FSSAI</keyword>, pointed to the increasing disconnect with India's traditional food items, which is evident much more in urban areas. "If I say, I am eating roti and <keyword id="863602" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="baingan-bharta" source="Orion">baingan bharta</keyword>, I am looked down upon. But the moment I say, I am having baba ganoush and pita bread, I am cool. With 2023 as the 'International Year of Millets', India all set to promote millet products in global market

<p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>The opening of the <keyword id="6354868" type="COUNTRY" weightage="100" keywordseo="UK">UK</keyword>'s first Food Waste Supermarket in September and the recent London launch of Too Good To Go, an app which sells cheap restaurant food that otherwise would have been thrown away, have put the issue of food waste on the media radar.<p>And for good reason.</p><p>"If food waste were a country, it would be the third largest emitter of green houses gases after the US and China," Too Good To Go co-founder Chris Wilson told Business Insider.</p><p>He added that 600,000 tonnes of edible food is wasted by UK restaurants each year, which he called "incomprehensible."</p><p>"It's a mammoth problem which until now the London media hadn't touched upon," he said.</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>Introducing <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/food-waste-app-too-good-to-go-3-2016-8" target="_blank">Too Good To Go</a>, the app <a href="http://toogoodtogo.co.uk/" target="_blank">and website</a> of the moment which uses a geo-targeted map to show users the restaurants closest to them with leftover food available for collection at a special time, all for under £3.80.</p><p>Some of the most popular spots in London include Sushilicious, which offers a box of leftover sushi for £2.80 compared to its regular price of £8, juices and smoothies from Roots Juicery for £2.75 and the popular Vietnamese baguette sandwiches from Banh Mi Bay for £3.50 instead of £7.</p><p>"The restaurant anticipates how much food they'll have left, then makes it avaiable to buy through the app," Wilson says. "Users can select the food they want, pay through the app then are given a mobile receipt which they show at the restaurant to get their food."</p><p>The box full of pizza shown below, for example, cost £3.50 from Pixxa in Whitechapel.</p><p><div>    </div></p><p>Wilson was first involved with Too Good To Go in Copenhagen, where the idea began, then decided to launch the app in the UK with friend Jamie Crummie, starting with Brighton and Leeds in June of this year. The app has since launched in&#xa0;Manchester, Birmingham and&#xa0;London.</p><p>Wilson said the duo were partly inspired by the work being done by <a href="http://therealjunkfoodproject.org/" target="_blank">The Real Junk Food Project</a>, the organisation that runs&#xa0;"pay as you feel" cafes around the world using food from the likes of markets and food banks destined for the bin and just last week opened the <a href="http://uk.businessinsider.com/uks-first-food-waste-supermarket-opens-in-leeds-2016-9" target="_blank">UK's first Food Waste Supermarket</a>.</p><p>"They started in Leeds as well and they've done some incredible stuff," he said.&#xa0;"It's really important that social entrepreneurs are getting involved in trying to bring food waste to&#xa0;the forefront."</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div><p>Wilson and his business partner Jamie Crummie are hoping the app will "highlight food waste and change perceptions around it."</p><p>"We can counter [food waste] by changing our attitudes towards it and hopefully start to be more considerate about the way we're consuming food," he said.</p><p>"If someone orders from us, we want their immediate thoughts about the experience to be, 'I can't believe this food was going to go in the bin.'"</p><p></p><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image on-image"></div><p></p></div></div>With approximately 100 restaurants already on board in London, Wilson says the app is "constantly expanding" and added that the team is in talks with getting popular chains on board; the YO!
