Samsung has been in the news for repurposing fishing nets and using them in smartphones. Every year, around 640,000 tonnes of fishing nets end up in our oceans, posing a serious threat to the marine ecosystem. Fishing nets are typically made of nylon materials, which have the basic property of absorbing moisture and water. "Starting with Galaxy S22 earlier this year and now with the new Galaxy Foldables and Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, we are scaling up the use of this innovative material," said the Samsung executive. By the end of 2022, "we hope to prevent more than 50 tonnes of discarded fishing nets from entering our oceans". According to Rathore, they have been researching and developing sustainable materials for over a decade. "2017 is when we started applying post-consumer materials in inbox charges and in 2018, we applied this material across all the products and chargers. This was when we started developing a new material solution to replace fossil-based raw materials with bio-based raw materials, which are renewable," he informed. By 2019, the company was able to develop this material, and then we applied this material to A and M series smartphones in the display frames. Galaxy Buds 2 Pro contains mostly recycled materials. More than 90 per cent of the plastics used in Galaxy buds 2 Pro are recycled materials. The repurposed fishing Nets are used in the internal brackets of the charging case, and the post-consumer materials are used in all the exterior parts of the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro. "With the Galaxy Watch 5, we also introduced post-consumer materials in the ECG and BIA keys, which you can see from the outside," said Rathore. By 2030, Samsung plans to establish system in which minerals extracted from all collected waste batteries can be reused "By 2030, 50 per cent of plastic used in products will incorporate recycled resin and 100 per cent by 2050. The Galaxy Z Fold4 has already been designed to incorporate plastics recycled from discarded fishing nets and other marine waste, and the success seen here will soon be expanded to additional products," according to the company. From Suzuki and TVS to Hero Electric: Here are some of the top electric scooters expected to launch in 2023

August auto sales: Hero Moto clocks in 7% sales while TVS and Bajaj Auto show stronger recovery compared to July

New Delhi, Dec 12 () The country's largest two-wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp plans to drive in BS-VI upgrades of around ten products, including five top-selling bikes and scooters by February next year, as it aims to upgrade its product portfolio well before the deadline of April, 1 2020, according to sources.
 The two wheeler major plans to showcase the upgraded products at an event in February 2020 at its R&amp;D centre (Centre of Innovation and Technology), in Jaipur,
 "Within the next 4-8 weeks, the company will launch around ten BS-VI products including its key products such as Splendor, HF Deluxe, Glamour motorcycles and Maestro Edge scooter," a company source said.
 Hero MotoCorp has already commenced the retail sales of its first BS-VI motorcycle, the Splendor iSmart in November 2019. 
 The transition to the higher emission norms for the company is being driven at its R&amp;D centre in Jaipur, which was commissioned in March 2016.
 Since then, Hero has further enhanced its in-house R&amp;D capabilities by setting-up the Hero Tech Center GmbH, near Munich in Germany. 
 Besides, the BS-VI transition, the company's is also focusing on a range of new premium products and accessories to increase its market share in such verticals.
 At the recent EICMA motor show in Milan, the Hero MotoCorp had showcased the Xtreme 1.R Concept which is expected to hit the roads soon.
"The XPulse Rally Edition that Hero will launch soon, has been developed basis the learnings from the company's motorsport team and will open up a new segment for biking enthusiasts in the country," the source said.
 When contacted, a company spokesperson said, "We have already launched Splendor iSmart in the market, which is the country's first BS-VI motorcycle. As stated earlier, we have also stopped production of more than 50 variants of our BS-IV range, and now aggressively working towards complete migration of our entire range to BS-VI norms. We will make the announcements on specific products at an appropriate time closer to their market launch."

Hero MotoCorp gears up to drive in around ten BS VI models by February

New Delhi, Feb 27 () Two-wheeler market leader Hero MotoCorp on Thursday launched BS-VI compliant version of its popular motorcycle model Super Splendor with price starting at Rs 67,300 (ex-showroom Delhi). Super Splendor BS-VI is powered by an all-new 125cc engine with programmed fuel injection delivering power of 10.73 BHP, which is 19 per cent more than the previous version. It comes in two variants -- self start, drum brake with alloy wheel priced at Rs 67,300 and self start, disc brake with alloy wheel priced at Rs 70,800 (ex-showroom Delhi), Hero MotoCorp said in a statement. Commenting on the launch, Hero MotoCorp Head - Global Product Planning Malo Le Masson said, "The Super Splendor has remained one of the most popular motorcycles in India and we are sure this trend will get further strengthened with the new Super Splendor BS-VI." The motorcycle has been revamped to give it a distinct identity and make it more capable than ever, he added. "With this launch, almost our entire portfolio has now migrated to the new emission regime," Masson said. While the MDX is roughly the size of a small house, its full-length glass roof makes the SUV feel less hefty than it is. Overall, it feels like a really nice family car — one you would impress people with, even if they didn't know what in particular impressed them (the red interior). <h2>What falls short: the little things</h2>It seems fitting to grill a car on its grille, so we'll start there.<div type="image" title="The 2022 Acura MDX." height="2520" width="1901" msid="87766923" hostid="261"></div>The modern Acura grille is beautiful — spikes lead outward from the central Acura badge to guide the eye around the car, blending aggressiveness with elegance.Sure, the MDX's grille might be unnecessarily huge and mostly fake, but most modern ones are! A grille exists to let air into the engine compartment, and the grille openings cars actually need are <a href="https://jalopnik.com/cars-without-fake-grilles-1818518076">often hilariously small</a> compared to the ones they have.<div type="image" title="The 2022 Acura MDX." height="2633" width="3992" msid="87766924" hostid="261"></div>But with the MDX A-Spec, Acura didn't even try to hide that the grille is fake. Get within 10 feet of the thing and all you see is giant hunks of material closing off the parts that aren't functional. Look to either side of you under the headlights and you'll notice large black "vents." They're not actually vents. There's no weight to it, and it takes inches of wheel travel before the SUV even registers that it's been turned. While that looseness might be a preference for some drivers, there's always something a little worrisome about putting such light steering in such large cars. Cushy modern cars already isolate drivers from the road, making it easy to forget we have a 4,500-pound vehicle in our hands. Adding weight to a car's steering reminds a driver of the magnitude (and dangers) of driving, which is better for all of us. <div type="image" title="The 2022 Acura MDX." height="4018" width="2645" msid="87766928" hostid="261"></div>The MDX's interior has one major flaw: high-gloss, piano-black accents. They might sound nice and fancy, and they are — for about five seconds. Then they're a test of how long you can go without touching anything.I don't think of myself as a particularly gross person. People who associate with me might disagree, but those people are not writing this review; I am. And despite not being a particularly gross person, I managed to get all kinds of fingerprints and marks all over the MDX's interior in a week with it. Gross!<div type="image" title="The 2022 Acura MDX." height="2034" width="3983" msid="87766929" hostid="261"></div>But modern automakers love glossy surfaces, which are a magnet for tiny scratches, specs of grime, and fingerprints. That means if you decide to buy a car in the midst of this design era, get ready to either glue a microfiber towel to your hand or get really acquainted with your own flakes and oils.Another trouble spot in the interior came on the driver's seat. Despite the MDX having less than 1,500 miles on it, the suede part of the seat rippled like someone had been skipping rocks on it. <div type="image" title="The 2022 Acura MDX." height="3985" width="2601" msid="87766930" hostid="261"></div>While most modern cars have touchscreens, Acuras have touchpads. It's a perfectly fine system, but you'll have to get over your aversion of learning curves to use it.What will always perplex me about the touchpad, though, is that it doesn't add to my experience. Few people looking at luxury commuter cars care about 0-to-60 times or whether their engine noise is real or piped in; it's about whether their red interior and loud — albeit fake — vroooom sounds can bring joy to both themselves and their guests. It's about feelings, not specs.If this MDX A-Spec loaner had anything other than a bright-red interior, I'm not sure I would have enjoyed the car as much. Perhaps that's superficial of me. Review: The $59,000 Acura MDX A-Spec is a practical 3-row SUV that'll make you feel undeniably cool

Hyundai is set to launch its new global SUV - the Creta in India by next month. It boasts of Hyundai’s flagship Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design and shares the Verna’s1.4-litre U2 CRDi petrol and1.6-litre CRDi diesel engines. 
 
The car would be available in Hyundai showrooms soon at a possible starting price of Rs. 8 Lakh. The more popular diesel variants are expected to be priced between Rs. 9-12.5 Lakhs (ex-showroom prices). 
 
The Creta notably stands taller than sub 4m SUVs like Ford’s EcoSport. However, this niche segment is already dominated by two formidable rivals ready to scrap it’s out till their last breath. Business Insider India gives you a peek into what the Creta would face once it’s thrown into the ring: 
 
Renault Duster 110 PS Diesel R8Z Plus (Diesel)

Under the hood comes with a 1.5-litre 108.45bhp 16V dCi THP Diesel Engine that churns a healthy245Nm of torque at 1750 rpm. 
 
The Duster returns an acceptable 16.1 kmpl in the city and 19.64 kmpl out on the highway. It’s priced at 12.4 Lakhs (ex-showroom). It is the chief rival of the Creta. 
 
Nissan Terrano XV 110 PS (Diesel)

Nissan’s Terrano is at par with the Duster in the engine front. It comes fitted with Nissan’s 1.5-litre 108.5bhp 16V K9K Diesel Engine that gets you 248Nm of torque at 2250rpm. 
 
The only fronts that the Terrano trumps the Duster on the features front are that it provides rear A/C vents and a cigarette lighter to keep smokers happy. 
 
It rolls out a competitive 16.0 kmpl in the city and19.01 kmpl on the highway. But at a price tag of Rs. 12.6 Lakhs (ex-showroom), it might seem a tad bit pricey.

Furthermore, new U.S. housing data may begin to give us a sense of whether rising mortgage rates are affecting homebuyer behavior. Similar insights will be revealed through the July auto sales figures.
Speaking of monetary policy, three of the world's most important central banks will hold interest rate meetings this week.
All of this comes as every major economy around the world will publish its crucial manufacturing PMI reports. Is Europe still getting better? Is China still getting worse?
Meanwhile, we're still in the middle of Q2 earnings season. Pfizer, ExxonMobil, Proctor &amp; Gamble, and Berkshire Hathaway are just a few of the companies announcing this week.
Also, the U.S. will be publishing <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/every-gdp-since-1929-getting-revised-2013-7">revisions to every GDP report since 1929</a>.

<li>Three Central Bank Meetings: The U.S. Federal Reserve, the Bank of England, and the European Central Bank will all be holding their monetary policy meeting this week. No change is expected from the ECB. On July 4, the BoE's Mark Carney hinted that he was <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/bank-of-england-interest-rate-decision-2013-7">considering adopting forward guidance</a>; we may hear more about that on Thursday. One thing's for sure, there won't be any tapering of it's monthly $85 billion bond-buying program. "Even uber-hawk Charles Plosser has called a first move in September, and if he doesn't advocate a July move, it's hard to see anyone in the leadership doing so," said JP Morgan's Michael Feroli. </li>
<li>GDP Mega-Revisions : This week, the Commerce Department will release revised GDP data to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/knowledge-economy-will-soon-count-as-investments--making-the-us-economy-look-better-2013-7">include R&amp;D as a category of investment</a>. This will affect every report since 1929. "The net effect could be a 3% upward revision to the level of output," <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/every-gdp-since-1929-getting-revised-2013-7">said Deutsche Bank's Joe LaVorgna</a>. "However, of greater significance to us (as well as the Fed and financial markets) will be the change in growth, rather than the outright level. This is what makes Q2 GDP estimates so difficult to forecast. Based on the recent and substantial upward revisions to nonfarm payrolls, we believe the growth rate of GDP will be revised modestly higher over the past several years. This is a separate issue from the overall level being revised higher."</li>

Economic Calendar

<li>Pending Home Sales (Monday): Economists estimate that the pace of pending home sales fell 1.0% in June month-over-month. "Pending home sales should have decreased by 2.0% mom in June," warned Bank of America Merrill Lynch's Michelle Meyer. "We expect some of the decline in signed contracts for existing homes to be a give-back following a 6.7% surge in May. We could also start to see the impact of rising mortgage rates, which may have deterred some homebuyers, particularly investors and second home buyers."</li>
<li>Dallas Fed Manufacturing (Monday): Economists estimate this index climbed to 7.3 in July, up from 6.5 a month ago.</li>
<li>S&amp;P/Case-Shiller Home Prices (Tuesday): Economists estimate the 20-city index climbed 1.4% month-over-month in May and 12.4% year-over-year. "Figures released by data provider CoreLogic suggest that home selling prices remained on an uptrend during May in the twenty cities covered by the S&amp;P/Case- Shiller survey," said Societe Generale's Brian Jones. "We will be paying particular attention to the breadth of price gains in next week’s report. Since last December, all of the metropolitan areas surveyed have posted sequential increases in home selling prices."</li>
<li>Consumer Confidence (Tuesday): Economists estimate that this confidence index fell to 81.0 in July from 81.4 a month ago. "Boosting confidence should be good news on employment. The June employment report, released during the survey period, surprised to the upside," said Credit Suisse's Neal Soss. "Also, “News Heard on Employment” from the University of Michigan’s consumer survey improved in July."</li>
<li>ADP Employment Change (Wednesday): Economists estimate the ADP survey will show a 180,000 increase in private payrolls in July. "ADP private payrolls are expected to increase by 160,000 in July, a partial give- back from the pop up to 188,000 in June," said BAML's Ethan Harris who is a bit more cautious than the consensus. "This would bring private payrolls roughly in line with the 6-month moving average of 163,000."</li>
<li>GDP Q2 (Wednesday): Having said that, economists estimate that GDP grew at a meager 1.0% rate in Q2. Personal consumption is estimated to have climbed by 1.6%. "2Q13 GDP is expected to be a very low +0.3%, leaving first half growth at only slightly better than 1% annualized, as the economy absorbed the heaviest impact of an estimated 1.7%% of GDP fiscal tightening this year," warned Morgan Stanley's Ted Wieseman who is much more bearish than the consensus.</li>
<li>Chicago PMI (Wednesday): Economists are looking for a reading of 54.0 in July, up from 51.6 in June. "Regarding the July Chicago PMI, we expect the manufacturing sector to regain some momentum in the back half of the year after suffering from a combination of sequester-related weakness, slowing exports and inventory rebalancing in H1," said Deutsche Bank's Brett Ryan.</li>
<li>The FOMC Rate Decision (Wednesday): "[This] week's FOMC meeting should prove to be relatively uneventful, with potentially the most interesting aspect being the degree to which they signal the imminence of the first tapering," said JP Morgan's Feroli. "We think that this first tapering comes at the September meeting, and see very low odds of a surprise reduction in asset purchases next week. Even uber-hawk Charles Plosser has called a first move in September, and if he doesn't advocate a July move, it's hard to see anyone in the leadership doing so."</li>
<li>Initial Jobless Claims (Thursday): Economists estimate that claims ticked up to 344,000 from 343,000 a week ago.</li>
<li>Markit PMI (Thursday): Economists are looking for a reading of 53.2 in July.</li>
<li>ISM Manufacturing (Thursday): Economists estimate that this key measure climbed to 52.0 in July, up from 50.9 in June. "For July, we expect the ISM Manufacturing Index to increase slightly to 52.6," said Wells Fargo's John Silvia. "The regional indices released for July so far have indicated that manufacturing improved this month. Although this is an improvement over last month’s figure, our forecast remains consistent with this recovery’s theme of modest, subpar growth and little evidence of the acceleration experienced in previous recoveries."</li>
<li>Construction Spending (Thursday): Economists estimate that spending climbed by 0.4% in June. "We look for a slowdown in the rate of increase of residential construction spending, reflecting the softening in housing starts of the past few months," said BAML's Meyer. "This should be offset by a gain in renovation spending. "</li>
<li>Vehicle Sales (Thursday): Analysts estimate that vehicle sales slipped to a still robust 15.8 million in July. "[V]ehicle sales have meaningful upside potential, thereby providing another pillar of support to the manufacturing sector in H2 and into 2014," said Deutsche Bank's Ryan.</li>
<li>Nonfarm Payrolls (Friday): Economists estimate that the U.S. added 185,000 payrolls in July, up from 195,000 in June. They also expect the unemployment rate to slip to 7.5% from 7.6% in June. "The public sector is likely to continue to gradually shed jobs; we forecast a decline of 5,000 public sector workers," said BAML's Harris. "In contrast, the private sector should add 185,000 jobs. Job growth recently has been driven by leisure and hospitality as well as retail trade — two of the sectors with the lowest paying jobs and fewest working hours. This has sparked concern about a poor composition of job growth. "</li>
<li>Personal Income and Spending (Friday): Economists estimate that income climbed by 0.4% in June, while spending grew by 0.5%. "Personal Income is expected to see a solid +0.5% gain in June given strong growth in aggregate private sector wages and salaries reported in the June employment situation," said Morgan Stanley's Wieseman. "Personal Consumption is also expected to gain a solid +0.5%, supported by a surge in motor vehicle sales to a six-year high, upside in gasoline consumption reflecting both higher prices and volume, and a slight uptick in ex auto retail sales."</li>
<li>Factory Orders (Friday): Economists estimate that orders climbed by 2.3% in June.</li>
</ul>
Market Commentary
Despite the sea of uncertainty on the horizon, J.P. Morgan's Tom Lee is bullish.
"With both U.S. and Europe expected to see better growth in [the second half of 2013], we believe the Street will be in a position to raise 2014E EPS," said Lee about stock market profits. "We are raising 2014E EPS to $120 (vs $117) and also <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/jpmorgans-tom-lee-raises-sp-500-target-2013-7">raising our YE 2013E S&amp;P 500 Target to 1775</a> (up 3.5% vs prior 1715)."
Among other things, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/us-pent-up-demand-charts-2013-7">Lee is encouraged by the pent-up demand</a> he sees in the U.S.
"As for the U.S. and to a lesser extent for Europe, this is more than “easing financial conditions” but a story of pent-up demand," he said. "[I]nvestment/durables spending in the U.S. remains at 60-year lows. And at a time when the age of capital- stock is near record highs. This is a formula, in our view, for obsolescence asserting itself in the form of an eventual sharp rise in spending."
