The company had posted a consolidated net profit of Rs 68.89 crore in the same quarter last fiscal, Kajaria Ceramics said in a regulatory filing. Consolidated revenue from operations were at Rs 1,121.62 crore, as against Rs 1,077.76 crore in the year-ago quarter. Total expenses were marginally lower at Rs 982.24 crore, as compared to Rs 985.16 crore in the corresponding period last fiscal, the company said. Sustained weakness in domestic demand for tiles has impacted Q2 FY24 volumes, which grew by 6%, Kajaria Ceramics Chairman &amp; Managing Director <keyword id="262346" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="ashok-kajaria" source="Orion">Ashok Kajaria</keyword> said. A reduction in power and fuel costs helped in improving profitability, he added. "Looking forward, we remain steadfast in our commitment to our growth strategy. This strategy entails a continued emphasis on expanding our reach in smaller towns and introducing innovative products," Kajaria said. The company's board has approved an interim dividend of Rs 6 per share of Re 1 each for the financial year 2023-24 and will be paid on or before November 18, 2023. Edelweiss' findings were based on the inputs from Lakshmi Ceramics, India's largest retailer of tiles and sanitaryware based out of Tamil Nadu. "Tier-2 and tier-3 cities are better placed than metros with less number of cases and limited labour availability issues. Furthermore, demand from the retail segment (~70% of their sales) is likely to remain healthy as individual home buyers/owners are eager to complete the construction of their homes, whereas projects are likely to suffer from liquidity squeeze and labour shortages," according to the Managing Director Muthuraman. This could be a morale booster for builders too who have been hit by a sharp slump in demand for residential housing. However, it is also possible that people are opting to renovate homes instead of buying new ones given the rising uncertainty over future incomes. The unorganised manufacturers are getting pushed out of the market While there have been no changes in credit terms so far, branded players such as Kajaria Ceramics, Somany Ceramics, and Nitco are offering cash discounts to receive payments. Smaller, unorganised players who form the biggest chunk of the manufacturing in this sector do not have that luxury. "Dealers/distributors are finding these schemes attractive and they are making payments to branded players on priority at the expense of unorganised players," the report added. This will allow companies Somany and Kajaria to capture more customers from the unorganised sector, which makes for nearly half of the entire market, according to a CARE Ratings report last year. Even competition from China will be at bay for a while. "Bigger architects used to go for China/Italy for purchases of premium-end tiles, but that is now ruled out for year or so. So, even the top-end of demand is likely to be catered by domestic players," Muthuraman told analysts. All in all, a crisis may be turning into an opportunity for India's branded ceramic industry, which is the third largest in the world after China and Brazil. He noted that the industry is divided equally into two — organised sector comprising large players and unorganised sector. India has also been stepping up its efforts to increase reach for the global ceramic market. According to the current data, 70% of the total output comes from Gujarat alone. The Morbi ceramic industry in Gujarat will receive an estimated investment of ₹15 billion in 2019, with plans to establish 50 new wall tiles manufacturing plants. The world's third largest ceramic industry is banking on India's love for gaudy tiles

Hope floats that this would close the price gap between unorganised players in Morbi and branded tile makers like Kajaria Ceramics, Somany Ceramics, Cera Sanitaryware, and Asian Granito and help these companies gain market share. According to media reports, of the 800 ceramic units in total, over 400 wall tile plants running majorly on coal gasifiers have been closed so far owing to shortage of raw material that has been impacting the operation costs for these units. The Morbi ceramic industry had expected a huge growth. In fact, the industry is reportedly planning to establish 50 new wall tiles manufacturing plants. After the ban on March 6, the production has reportedly <a href="https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/ahmedabad/after-ngt-crackdown-450-ceramic-units-prepare-to-switch-to-gas/articleshow/68365929.cms">dropped</a> by 60%-70%. "Among these units, those most affected will be the wall tile and soluble salt tile manufacturers as they were meeting nearly their entire thermal energy requirements through coal gasifiers," Suprio Banerjee, vice president and head, Mid-Corporate ratings of ICRA reportedly said. India being the third largest ceramic producer in the world has been eyeing the global market. Markets turn choppy ahead of US Fed monetary policy outcome

IndusInd Bank The private sector lender’s net profit jumped 64.4% on year to ₹1,603.29 crore in June quarter due to fall in bad loans. State Bank of India The largest lender has approved raising up to ₹11,000 crore in bonds during the current financial year. Tata Communications The Tata Group company’s net profit grew by 83% on year to ₹544 crore in June quarter. AU Small Bank The small finance lender reported growth of 32% on year in net income to ₹268 crore in the June quarter on the back of good asset quality and higher loan sales. Century Plyboards The company’s net profit surged significantly by 184% to ₹96.47 crore in the first quarter of the current fiscal. CEAT The tyre maker reported a 61% decline in its consolidated net profit to ₹9 crore for the June quarter due to high raw material prices. New Delhi, Feb 26 () AjnaLens (Dimension NXG) on Wednesday said it has raised USD 1.5 million in a funding round led by Maharashtra Defence and Aerospace Venture Fund (MDAVF).Other HNI investors such as Nailesh Khimji, Chirayu Khimji, Jay Jesrani and Mohsin Group also participated in the pre-series A round, a statement said.Founded in November 2014 by Pankaj Raut, Abhishek Tomar and Abhijit Patil, AjnaLens develops mixed reality glasses for defence, education and enterprise customers.The startup will primarily use the funds to enhance its defence offering, manufacturing headsets, improving technology and product capabilities, the statement said. While Havells has all these in its portfolio, Orient Pa-per (Orient Electrical) is one of the oldest fan manufacturing companies and its other product categories include lighting, water heaters and kitchen appliances.

Indian stocks had a tepid start on Wednesday as quarterly earnings at market heavyweight Tata Consultancy Services disappointed analysts, pushing the stock down to 3-week lows. 
 As a consequence, the <keyword id="6354813" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="nifty">Nifty</keyword> fell 2 points to 8,129 in early deals with Software shares coming under selling pressure. TCS was the top loser, dropping nearly 4 percent in early deals. Stocks such as Zee Entertainment, Idea, Cipla and <keyword id="6653" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="ICICI-bank">ICICI Bank</keyword> also slipped in trade. Buying was seen on beaten down stocks such as <keyword id="6357147" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Tata-Steel">Tata Steel</keyword>, Vedanta, Hindalco, Sun Pharma and IndusInd Bank. 
 
The Nifty enjoyed an Advance-Decline Ratio of 26/22 in the first hour of trade as it recovered from an intra-day low of 8,109 points. 
 
Not surprisingly, TCS and Infosys were the top two traded stocks on the National Stock Exchange. The third slot went to DCB Bank. 
 Broader markets were mostly flat with the CNX 100 and CNX 500 indices quoting at the same levels as Tuesday. However, the Mid Cap and the Small Cap indices inched up. Strong gains were seen on benchmarks representing the Metals, <keyword id="34523" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="fmcg">FMCG</keyword> and Pharma sectors while indices tracking the banking, finance and PSU lending space were tinged with a mild shade of red. 
 Sentiment was flat on the Bombay Stock Exchange as well with the <keyword id="6484188" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Sensex">Sensex</keyword> dropping 19 points to trade at 26,823 points. Metal stocks ruled the roost with Hindalco, Vedanta and Tata Steel surging in trade. Hero Motors and Coal India dropped below their Tuesday's closing prices. TCS was the top loser on the Sensex, which had an Advance-Decline Ratio of 17/13. 
 
Lupin, TCS and Infosys were the top traded stocks on the Sensex. 
 
Banking, Realty, Metals, Telecom and Textile stock futures were in heavy demand in the derivatives space where 119 futures advanced compared with 43 that fell. 
 
Tile makers were in heavy demand on the National Stock Exchange with Kajaria Ceramics, Nitco Tiles and Asian Granito making it to the top volume buzzers list on the exchange.
