Even though the Wadia group has approached the <keyword id="6354457" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="national-company-law-tribunal" source="Orion">National Company Law Tribunal</keyword> (<keyword id="6355809" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="nclt" source="Orion">NCLT</keyword>) voluntarily to protect their leased planes from being repossessed, there exists the risk of other interested groups bidding for <keyword id="120816" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="go-airlines" source="Orion">Go Airlines</keyword> (India) Ltd, said Supreme Court advocate. "The risk of some other interested group making a bid for Go Airlines that may be attractive for the creditors is always there. Go Airlines might have gone to NCLT voluntarily with an intention to retain its assets, but the risk of facing rival bids does hang over the promoters heads like the Damocles sword," D. Varadarajan, Supreme Court advocate specialising in corporate laws, told IANS. The purpose of NCLT is to resolve the issues fast, he added. Queried about the firewall that the promoters have built around Rs 7,100 crore-turnover Go Airlines against rival bids before landing in NCLT, <keyword id="663643" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="kaushik-khona" source="Orion">Kaushik Khona</keyword>, Chief Executive Officer told IANS in an interview: "The process of NCLT and the IBC (The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code) will be followed once the application is admitted. The question (takeover bids) is hypothetical to be addressed." <keyword id="3722377" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="khona" source="Orion">Khona</keyword> said the airline promoters - the Wadia group - are interested to be in the business and the purpose of approaching the NCLT is to retain the aircraft as the lessors are taking action to repossess them. He also said the idea of promoters rebidding for the airlines was not thought of while approaching the NCLT. The insolvency petition is not a ruse to get loan write offs. "We have not asked the banks to take a haircut (write off a portion of their loan," Khona said. According to reports, the airline has a total liability - dues to banks, other creditors, vendors etc. - of about Rs 11,463 crore. The Indian government owned Central Bank of India said its outstanding exposure to Go Airlines as on March 31, 2023 is Rs 1,305 crore and an additional amount of Rs 682 crore sanctioned under the Emergency line of credit guaranteed by the Government of India. The airlines have defaulted on its payment dues to aircraft lessors and others but not to the banks and the account has not been classified as a non-performing asset (NPA) by the bankers. With nearly 50 per cent of its A320neo fleet grounded, India's third largest airline Go Airline has approached NCLT for resolution under Section 10 of the IBC. The airline said it has approached the NCLT, "...due to the ever-increasing number of failing engines supplied by Pratt &amp; Whitney's International Aero Engines, LLC, which has resulted in GO FIRST (airline brand) having to ground 25 aircraft (equivalent to approximately 50 per cent of its Airbus A320neo aircraft fleet) as of May 1, 2023." The petition is being heard by NCLT for admission. According to Khona, if the petition is admitted by the NCLT then there will be a moratorium and the appointment of an Interim Resolution Professional (IRP) will be automatic. In its petition, Go Airlines has suggested the name of a person to be appointed as the IRP and Khona said it is for the NCLT to decide on that. Khona also said the airline had got enquiries for leasing for more aircrafts. He said the aircrafts will be up in the air in 7/8 days once the petition is admitted. Citing FY23 revenue of about Rs 7,100 crore Khona said even with a reduced fleet size the airline was able log such a revenue. "We want more aircrafts on wet lease or dry lease," he said. In its petition, Go Airlines has suggested the name of a person to be appointed as the IRP and Khona said it is for the NCLT to decide on that. As to the funds to restart operations, Khona said the airline is yet to draw the balance of Rs 208 crore of the Rs 1,500 crore sanctioned under the Emergency Line Credit Guarantee Scheme (ELCGS). According to Khona, the airlines need about Rs 17-18 crore per day for its operations as the trade partners may provide the needed items - fuel and others - on cash and carry basis. On the availability of pilots to fly the aircraft as many have started attending interviews held by rivals Khona said: "I have the pilots to fly all the 54 aircrafts. We have a huge fleet of pilots." Khona said the majority of the pilots have not left the company even during the Covid-19 period and added that it takes about six months for a pilot to fly an aircraft after joining a rival. He did agree that the salaries for the ground staff have been paid while the April salary for the professional and others is pending. Khona does not want to think about the chance of NCLT not admitting the insolvency petition as IBC wants every business to be up and running and in the case of airlines up and flying. For more than 12 months, the airline's management has tried their level best to convince P&amp;W to provide spare engines, repair engines. However, P&amp;W has been stonewalling the discussions, the CEO said, adding that it moved Emergency Arbitration in Singapore. According to the airline, the arbitrator ordered P&amp;W to supply at least 10 serviceable spare leased engines by April 27 and a further 10 spare leased engines per month until December 2023. "With that, the airline would have had all its A320 neo aircraft operational by August/ September 2023... unfortunately, Pratt &amp; Whitney has chosen to defy the order from the Emergency Arbitrator," Khona said in the message. The airline approached the arbitrator, who reinforced the order and since P&amp;W "chose to defy for the second time", it filed enforcement proceedings at a US court seeking implementation of the order, he added. Doing everything possible to take utmost care of employees says Go First CEO

The budget airline last Thursday had filed a petition with the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), seeking protection under bankruptcy law. It had also sought an interim moratorium to prevent the seizure of its 26 aircraft by aircraft lessors. In addition, the airline sought direction to appoint an insolvency resolution process (IRP) for the betterment of Go First. The NCLT, the President Justice Ramalingam <keyword id="198622" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sudhakar" source="Orion">Sudhakar</keyword> and technical member LN Gupta announced the order, adding, "We appoint Abhilash Lal as IRP (Insolvency Resolution Professional). Suspended board of directors will cooperate with the IRP." The airline operator has recently filed an application for immediate resolution under insolvency and revival of its operations. Meanwhile, Go First has cancelled all its flights until May 19 this year. Earlier, the cancellations were till May 12. The airline said a full refund would be issued to the original mode of payment shortly. Go First currently has around 50 aircraft in its fleet, with 50 per cent grounded due to engine outages. "Since the principal amount of notes validly tendered and not validly withdrawn on or prior to the early tender date (of May 8) exceeded the maximum acceptance amount of USD 130 million in aggregate principal amount of the outstanding notes, the company will accept such notes for purchase subject to the proration factor of 34.2649 per cent," it said. Adani group to prepay USD 130 million debt to boost investor confidence

New Delhi, The Central Bureau of Investigation (<keyword id="6354572" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="cbi" source="Orion">CBI</keyword>) in its charge sheet lodged in the Rs 34,615 crore <keyword id="127124" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="dhfl" source="Orion">DHFL</keyword> loan fraud case has said that the accused created 87 shell companies and 2,60,000 fake borrowers to launder money. The charge sheet was filed in the second week of October. The federal probe agency has also said in its charge sheet that the accused set up a virtual branch to launder money. The CBI had on October 15 filed the charge sheet against 75 accused, including private companies before the Rouse Avenue court in Delhi. It has been alleged that <keyword id="2693" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="kapil" source="Orion">Kapil</keyword> and Dheeraj <keyword id="695125" type="General" weightage="80" keywordseo="wadhawan" source="Orion">Wadhawan</keyword> laundered money and purchased 24 paintings worth Rs 63 crore. The charge sheet said that the laundered money was spent on credit cards, foreign trips and renting chartered planes. The CBI has alleged that Wadhwas were using a special designed software which was generating dummy data. The software was also showing various fake entries of home loan takers. The accused also created a virtual branch in the name of Bandra branch with a code 001 whereas in reality this branch does not exist. In July the CBI had seized a helicopter parked in a hangar at the premises of Avinash Bhosale, one of the accused, at Baner Road in Pune. "It came to light that RKW Developers Pvt. Ltd (a company owned by Wadhawan family) allegedly has stakes in Varva Aviation (an Association of Persons) which owns an AW109SP Grand New Helicopter (AgustaWestland Helicopter) which was allegedly purchased in 2011. RKW Developers Pvt. Ltd joined the Association of Persons in 2017 contributing towards cost price and maintenance of said helicopter. "ABIL Infraprojects Ltd, a company owned by Avinash Bhosale allegedly has a stake in the said helicopter. As it was allegedly apprehended that the funds used for making payment towards the stake in Association of Persons were sourced from loan funds sanctioned by different banks, therefore, we have seized the helicopter which was parked in a hangar at the premises of Bhosale at Baner Road, Pune," the CBI had said. Earlier the federal probe agency had seized two paintings made by F.N. Souza (1964) and another by S.H. Raza (1956) worth Rs 5.50 crore; two watches of Jacob &amp; Co &amp; Frank Muller Geneve make worth Rs 5 crore and Jewellery including worth Rs 2 crore. The CBI had said that the promoters had acquired expensive items using the diverted funds. DHFL Directors Kapil and Dheeraj Wadhwan, who were arrested by the agency, were brought to Delhi from Lucknow. Earlier on July 8, the CBI had recovered paintings and sculptures worth Rs 40 crore. A case was registered on June 20, 2022. Vipin Kumar Shukla, DGM and Branch head of Union Bank of India, Nariman Point, Mumbai lodged an FIR in this connection. It was alleged in the complaint Dewan Housing Finance Corporation Ltd (DHFL), Kapil Wadhawan it's former CMD, Dheeraj Wadhawan, the ex-Directors, Sudhakar Shetty and other accused entered into a criminal conspiracy to cheat the Consortium of 17 banks led by Union Bank of India. "Wadhawan and others induced the consortium banks to sanction huge loans aggregating to Rs 42,871.42 crore and siphoned off and misappropriated a significant portion of the said funds by falsifying the books of the DHFL and dishonestly defaulted on repayment of the legitimate dues of the said consortium banks. That caused a wrongful loss of Rs 34,615.00 crore to the consortium lenders," said the CBI. The CBI after conducting an inquiry lodged the case under sections 120-B read with 409, 420, 477-A of IPC and Section 13(2) read with sections 13(1)(d) of Prevention of Corruption Act. The FIR was lodged against DHFL, its former CMD Wadhwan, MD Dheeraj Rajeshkurrar Wadhwan, present Director <keyword id="4946125" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="sudhkar-shetty" source="Orion">Sudhkar Shetty</keyword>, Amaryllis Realtors LLP (ARLLP), Gulmarg Realtors LLP (GRLLP), Skylark Buildcon Pvt. Ltd, Darshan Developers Pvt. Ltd, Sigtia Constructions Pvt. Ltd, Creator Builders Pvt. Ltd, Township Developers Pvt. Ltd, Shishir Reality Pvt. Ltd, Sunblink Real Estate PM. Ltd and other unknown persons including public servants. The official said that it was found that the promoters had allegedly diverted the funds and made investments in various entities. It was also alleged that the promoters had acquired expensive paintings and sculptures worth about Rs 55 crore using the diverted funds. Earlier, searches were conducted on June 22 at 12 locations in Mumbai at the premises of the accused which led to recovery of incriminating documents. Further investigation in the matter was on.

DHFL loan fraud case: Money laundered via 87 shell firms, 2.6 lakh fake borrowers

New Delhi, Jan 12 (IANS) The country's civil aviation sector swung into action on Tuesday for providing the expeditious logistical support to the roll-out of India's mega anti-Covid vaccination drive. Accordingly, nine flights operated by various domestic airlines ferried 56.5 lakh doses from Pune to Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Guwahati, Shillong, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Bhubaneswar, Patna, Bengaluru, Lucknow and Chandigarh. "Today @airindiain@flyspicejet @goairlinesindia&amp;@IndiGo6E will operate 9 flights from Pune with 56.5 lakh doses to Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Guwahati, Shillong, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Bhubaneswar, Patna, Bengaluru, Lucknow &amp; Chandigarh," Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, said in a tweet. Last week, Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued guidelines to airlines and other aircraft operators for transportation of Covid-19 vaccines. As per the guidelines, authorised airlines can carry the vaccine packed in dry ice in the passenger or the cargo cabin. The circular noted that the carriage of Covid-19 vaccines from the manufacturing units to the place of administration gains significant importance especially in the light of the high expectations of the governments, healthcare personnel and the general public. Sector wise, IndiGo transported 900 kg of vaccine from Pune to Chandigarh and Lucknow via flight 6E 6515 and 6E 882 respectively today. From Wednesday, it will transport the vaccines from Mumbai to other cities, basis the allocation. On its part, GoAir operated two flights from Pune to Chennai ferrying 708,000 doses of the vaccine. "While our efforts to alleviate the complexities of the vaccine movement given the scale of the consignments and logistics, we are taking every possible step to support the institutions and our stakeholders to reach the vaccine in all possible corners of the country," said GoAir CEO Kaushik Khona. "This responsibility of vaccine shipment recognises the efforts taken by GoAir towards developing its cargo services for critical vaccine movement and motivates us to take the lead in order to remain the preferred choice for the industry." A BIAL spokesperson said that 54 boxes of the Covid19 vaccine, consisting of approximately 650,000 doses arrived at Bengaluru airport from Pune "at 1145 hours on Tuesday, January 12, 2021". Besides, budget airline SpiceJet carried the first consignment of Covid-19 vaccine from Pune to Delhi. The first consignment of Covishield consisted of 2,64,000 doses from Pune to Delhi on SpiceJet flight SG 8937. Subsequently, the Delhi airport received the first consignment of COVID vaccine. "Today, we have received the first batch of COVID-19 vaccine at our airport. Temperature-controlled facility, ranging from -20 Deg C to +25 Deg C, at our two Cargo terminals can efficiently and safely handle these temperature sensitive vaccines," said CEO-DIAL Videh Kumar Jaipuriar. "We have 'Cool Chambers and Cool Dollies' to maintain temperature required for these vaccines at the cargo terminal and during transit between aircraft and terminal or vice versa. Our both the terminals can handle around 5.7 million vials in a day." According to Jaipuriar, DIAL has synergised and collaborated with all the stakeholders including exporters, importers, logistics companies, freight forwarders or agents, government, airlines, cargo terminal operators, to ensure faster turnaround of the vaccines. Furthermore, SpiceJet transported multiple vaccine consignments from Pune to different Indian cities including 276,000 doses to Guwahati, 996,000 doses to Kolkata, 3,72,000 doses to Hyderabad, 480,000 doses to Bhubaneswar, 648,000 doses to Bengaluru, 552,000 doses to Patna and 408,000 doses to Vijayawada on Tuesday. Social media influencers, start-up founders and sportsmen dominate Forbes India's 30 under 30 list

New Delhi, Jan 12 (IANS) The country's civil aviation sector swung into action on Tuesday for providing expeditious logistical support to the roll-out of India's mega anti-Covid vaccination drive. Accordingly, the operation conducted seamlessly all across the country commenced from Pune, the base of Serum Institute of India, manufacturers of the Covishield vaccine. Subsequently, the precious, temperature controlled cargo first travelled via trucks to Pune airport. Subsequently, nine flights operated by various domestic airlines ferried 56.5 lakh doses from Pune to Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Guwahati, Shillong, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Bhubaneswar, Patna, Bengaluru, Lucknow and Chandigarh. "Today @airindiain@flyspicejet @goairlinesindia&amp;@IndiGo6E will operate 9 flights from Pune with 56.5 lakh doses to Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Guwahati, Shillong, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Bhubaneswar, Patna, Bengaluru, Lucknow &amp; Chandigarh," Union Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said in a tweet. Last week, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) issued guidelines to airlines and other aircraft operators for transportation of Covid-19 vaccines. As per the guidelines, authorised airlines can carry the vaccine packed in dry ice in the passenger or the cargo cabin. The circular noted that the carriage of Covid-19 vaccines from the manufacturing units to the place of administration gains significant importance especially in the light of the high expectations of the governments, healthcare personnel and the general public. Sector wise, national carrier Air India ferried the consignment of 276,000 vaccine doses weighing approximately 700 kg, from Pune to Ahmedabad. On its part, IndiGo transported 900 kg of vaccine from Pune to Chandigarh and Lucknow via flight 6E 6515 and 6E 882 respectively today. From Wednesday, it will transport vaccines from Mumbai to other cities, basis the allocation. Besides, GoAir operated two flights from Pune to Chennai ferrying 708,000 doses of the vaccine. "While our efforts to alleviate the complexities of the vaccine movement given the scale of the consignments and logistics, we are taking every possible step to support the institutions and our stakeholders to reach the vaccine in all possible corners of the country," said GoAir CEO Kaushik Khona. "This responsibility of vaccine shipment recognises the efforts taken by GoAir towards developing its cargo services for critical vaccine movement and motivates us to take the lead in order to remain the preferred choice for the industry." A BIAL spokesperson said that 54 boxes of the vaccine, consisting of approximately 650,000 doses arrived at Bengaluru airport from Pune "at 1145 hours on Tuesday, January 12, 2021". Budget airline SpiceJet carried the first consignment of Covid-19 vaccine from Pune to Delhi. The first consignment of Covishield consisted of 2,64,000 doses from Pune to Delhi on SpiceJet flight SG 8937. Subsequently, the Delhi airport received the first consignment of Covid vaccine. "Today, we have received the first batch of Covid-19 vaccine at our airport. Temperature-controlled facility, ranging from -20 Deg C to +25 Deg C, at our two Cargo terminals can efficiently and safely handle these temperature sensitive vaccines," said CEO-DIAL Videh Kumar Jaipuriar. "We have 'Cool Chambers and Cool Dollies' to maintain temperature required for these vaccines at the cargo terminal and during transit between aircraft and terminal or vice versa. Our both the terminals can handle around 5.7 million vials in a day." According to Jaipuriar, DIAL has synergised and collaborated with all the stakeholders including exporters, importers, logistics companies, freight forwarders or agents, government, airlines, cargo terminal operators, to ensure faster turnaround of the vaccines. Furthermore, SpiceJet transported multiple vaccine consignments from Pune to different Indian cities including 276,000 doses to Guwahati, 996,000 doses to Kolkata, 3,72,000 doses to Hyderabad, 480,000 doses to Bhubaneswar, 648,000 doses to Bengaluru, 552,000 doses to Patna and 408,000 doses to Vijayawada on Tuesday. "On Day One, SpiceJet is shipping 4 million doses of Covishield vaccine weighing close to 11 tonnes to eight different cities which include Guwahati, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bhubaneswar, Bengaluru, Patna, Vijayawada and Delhi," said Ajay Singh, Chairman and Managing Director, SpiceJet. On Wednesday, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport will begin with its first domestic distribution of the Covishield vaccine consignment from early morning to tomorrow and cater to a minimum of 16 destinations. The colour is sepia, the mood nostalgic but the tone urgent as Maria (Julie Andrews) croons, "Let's start at the very beginning, a sore throat, a cough in Wuhan", and goes on to talk about how the pandemic progressed and the necessity of social isolation – all to verse and the tune of the all-time favourite song.The 'corona cover' of the famous song was shared on YouTube by Shirley Serban from New Zealand who captioned it "Sound of a Pandemic", reportedly garnering millions of views. Back home in India, artists, amateur and professional, are joining the global chorus, sharpening their creative edge as they bring out covers and originals on the pandemic.Rap, spiritual, soft, parody, Punjabi folk and even 'cringe pop', different genres of music are synchronising chords to reach out to people through YouTube and social media channels.
