Gurugram, After farmers decided to intensify their agitation in support of their demands, Gurugram Police on Thursday beefed up security at several traffic junctions, toll plazas and Delhi-Haryana border areas in view of protesters' plan to block the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway during the week. "We have also beefed up security arrangements at border points in view of ongoing farmers' protests. We have issued an advisory to all officials concerned to take necessary precautionary measures in view of plans to block the expressway and toll plaza," ACP (Headquarters) Usha Kundu said. Police officials have been asked to intensify patrolling in all sensitive locations, especially in border areas and Kherki Daula toll plaza so as to prevent any untoward incident. While the farmers' protest continued for the 15th day on Thursday, <keyword id="3826242" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="gurugram-traffic-police">Gurugram Traffic Police</keyword> has issued a traffic advisory for crucial traffic points like Kapdiwas border, Bilaspur Chowk, Panchgaon Chowk, <keyword id="10408909" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="manesar-chowk">Manesar Chowk</keyword>, Kherki Daula toll plaza, <keyword id="6371658" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="hero-honda-chowk">Hero Honda Chowk</keyword>, Rajiv Chowk, and Shankar Chowk on the National Highway-48. The farmer's unions had said that after blocking the <keyword id="10347936" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="singhu">Singhu</keyword>, Tikri, Chilla and Ghazipur interstate border points connecting Delhi to Ambala, Hisar, Noida and Ghaziabad (both in Uttar Pradesh) respectively, they will block the Delhi-Jaipur highway or National Highway 48 that connects Delhi to Rajasthan via Haryana. The action will not only further disrupt Delhi's supply chains, but will also put pressure on commuters who may face huge traffic congestion on December 12. "The police has already tightened security and made appropriate arrangements to prevent any untoward incident. Also, nearly 2,000 police personnel have been deployed in sensitive locations in the district. The Gurugram police is also keeping in touch with counterparts in adjoining districts and state's police to monitor the movement of vehicles and people," Kundu added. The district police resumed on Thursday checking of suspicious vehicles. It also put up barricades on carriageway and state highways to check vehicles entering Gurugram district. A large number of security personnel, including senior police officers, were deployed in all sensitive locations. Police officials are visiting the toll plaza and border areas to take stock of the ground situation. "Amid the farmer's calls to block the expressway and Kherki Daula toll plaza, the Gurugram police is already on high alert. Security forces, including police personnel, rapid action force and others, have been deputed across the district," the ACP said. Farmers protest enters 15th day: Gurugram beefs up security as farmers' plan to block Delhi-Jaipur Expressway

New Delhi, Nov 26 () Honda Motorcycle &amp; Scooter India (HMSI) on Tuesday said it has commenced operations at its Manesar plant with permanent employees joining the work though the sacked contractual employees continued with their protest at the site.
 The Japanese two-wheeler major had suspended operations at the plant from first week of November as workers protested for over a week against the retrenchment of their 200 contractual colleagues.
 The stand-off at the facility, which employs around 1,900 permanent workers and 2,500 contract workers, began on November 5 morning when the company management did not allow some of the contractual workers to go inside the plant.
 "The decision to resume production at Manesar plant was initiated on November 22. All permanent staff associates were informed to join duties from 25-28 November in four batches," HMSI said in a statement.
 Process of joining back to work has started as per the schedule and the company looks forward to normalcy of operation after this process is completed, it added.
 "With the intention of maintaining industrial peace, Manesar plant management reaffirmed that all permanent workers are expected to resume work as per schedule and carry out their assigned duties with discipline, good faith, cooperation and positivity," the two wheeler major said.
 On the other hand, the worker union at the plant alleged foul play on the part of the company management in re-starting work at the facility.
 When contacted, a Union leader told that the company management is allowing permanent workers to enter the manufacturing plant only after getting an undertaking signed, which he termed as illegal.
 "The company has sacked the entire 2,500 contractual staff at the facility and these workers are still protesting at the gates of the plant. We plan to take out a protest rally from IMT Chowk to Gurgaon mini secretariat to press for their reinstatement," the leader said.
 He alleged that the company is just not interested in reaching a settlement with the workers.
 "They have suspended six of our union members, including the president, general secretary and other members. The company management is bent on destroying the facility," he added.
 On November 22, a section of workers at the Manesar plant took out a protest march against the company's decision to sack contractual workers and suspension of work at the facility.

The protesting farmers staged a dharna at the interstate border point on the service lane of the Delhi-Jaipur National Highway after police stopped them from proceeding further on Saturday night. They are now awaiting more farmers to join in. Sources said that more police personnel than farmers were seen deployed at the Rajasthan-Haryana border falling in Gurugram district on Sunday. "Thousands of police personnel along with water cannons, cranes/JCBs and anti-riot equipment have been stationed across the National Highway to stop farmers from entering Gurugram area," said Nikita Gahlaut, DCP (Manesar). As of Saturday evening, two groups of farmers from Rajasthan, with more expected to join them on Sunday, turned up to participate in the call for "blocking" the NH-48. As the protestors sat on a dharna on the NH's service lane, they shouted slogans to demand the repeal of the three new central farm laws. Earlier, Swaraj India national President Yogendra Yadav had tweeted that the farmers from Rajasthan and Haryana would gather at Kotputli and Behror before their proposed march to Delhi on December 13. According to a senior police officer who did not wish to be named, the Haryana Police had changed its strategy to stop farmers from proceeding further, putting up barricades on the Haryana-Rajasthan border in the district till <keyword id="3912043" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="delhi-gurugram">Delhi-Gurugram</keyword> border and digging up trenches on roads. The police has been deployed on the Haryana-Rajasthan border and at Bawal, Sudhrawali, Bilaspur Chowk, Panchgaon Chowk near Kherki Daula toll plaza, Shankar Chowk, and Delhi-Gurugram border on the <keyword id="6361028" type="LOCATION" weightage="20" keywordseo="Expressway">Expressway</keyword>. Haryana's farmer leader Rampal Jat said: "We are waiting for more protesters to join us. Farmers from different villages in Gurugram district will also rally on the Rajasthan-Haryana border. We are expecting thousands of farmers to participate." He said that they all plan to join the farmers already protesting on Delhi borders at Tikri and Singhu. "We have made preparation to stay put for months at the protest spot, bringing along food items, clothes, water and other essentials," he added. "We know that we will be stopped by the police and we are prepared for that. This is our protest against the three black farms law and we will win, sooner or later," Jat asserted. Yogendra Yadav, who along with farmers and members of worker union, moved towards Delhi on foot on Sunday, said that mobilisation of protesters was on from several districts of Rajasthan and south Haryana districts for Sunday's march. Farmers' Protest: Security beefed up in Gurugram as farmers stopped on Haryana-Rajasthan border

New Delhi, Nov 7 (IANS) Along with bad air, there's bad news for residents of Delhi-NCR, the Ministry of Earth Sciences informed that overall AQI in the region has deteriorated to 'severe' category on Saturday morning and there is "no quick recovery" in sight unless "a drastic reduction of stubble fire counts takes place". Delhi's Air Quality Index was 405, while that of Ghaziabad was 432; Greater Noida 418; Millennium City Gurugram 411, Noida 404 and Faridabad a 410. SAFAR has synergized stubble fire counts over Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and neighbouring areas which increased and stood at 4,528 as on Friday -- the highest this season. "Despite moderate day time dispersion condition, air quality has declined, owing to sustained unusually high fire emissions. Surface winds have become calm today morning and pollutants are accumulating near the surface," said the ministry in a statement on Saturday. The boundary layer wind direction is Northwesterly, and favourable for the fire-related intrusion to Delhi-NCR region, stubble burning share in PM 2.5 in Delhi's air is estimated at 32 per cent for Saturday, said the ministry. However surface winds are forecast to decrease on Sunday and Monday. "No quick recovery is expected unless a drastic reduction in fire counts takes place. Air quality is forecast to stay at the 'Severe' to the higher end of 'Very Poor' category for the next two days. "In summary, fire-related emission is impacting air quality of the entire Indo Gangetic Plains, approaching winter making conditions hard for efficient dispersion of pollutants," added the Ministry. The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) air lab, which was installed a few days ago to monitor the pollution levels across the Millennium City, have identified 18 most polluted locations on Friday. These 18 places are: Sector 14, Sector 18, Sector 30, Sector 32, Sector 42, Sector 44, Sector 47, Sector 51, Atlas Chowk, Shankar Chowk, Huda City Centre, Teri Retreat, Teri Gram, Manesar, Vikas Sadarn, DLF Belvedere Towers, Vatika Chowk and Gwal Pahari. With the pollution level deteriorating, an alert was issued a few days ago by the Gurugram administration for Covid patients, children and senior citizens asking them to stay indoors. In western India, in Mumbai, Pune and Ahmedabad, the situation is fairly better. The air quality of Pune is the higher end of the Satisfactory category and Mumbai, and Ahmedabad is in the Moderate category. Pune AQI is likely to marginally deteriorate and stay in the Moderate for the next three days. Mumbai and Ahmedabad AQI is forecast to stay in the Moderate to Poor category for the next three days. The health officials in Delhi-NCR have claimed that due to worsening air quality, the number of patients with eye infections and other ailments have increased. The Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) of Gurugram has been in force since October 15. Toxic air: Delhi-NCR AQI 'severe'; govt says 'no quick recovery'

<img class="gwt-Image" src="/photo/53915707.cms" /> <keyword id="6385438" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="heavy-rains">Heavy rains</keyword> lashed parts of the national capital today leading to waterlogging and traffic jams in many areas at several places, Gurgaon being the most affected. 
 
The mercury, however, settled at the normal level. The maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 34.7 and 26.5 degrees Celsius respectively, both normal for this time of the year, according to the MeT Department. 
 
However, vehicular movement was affected across the city, including at ITO, Vikas Marg, South Extension, Khanpur, Mahipalpur, Hari Nagar, IIT crossing, Nehru Place, Yusuf Sarai Market and Munirka. 
 
Traffic also crawled at various major intersections such as Laxmi Nagar, Kashmere Gate, Dwarka, Dhaula Kuan, Sarai Kale Khan, Moolchand, Karkarduma, Rajghat, Kalindi Kunj. 
 
Heavy traffic and bottlenecks were also witnessed on road stretches from Punjabi Bagh flyover to Rajouri Garden flyover, Mandi House to W-Point, Baraf Khana, Minto Road, Leela Palace and on Meerabagh Outer Ring Road. 
 
Meanwhile, Gurgaon saw waterlogging at a number of key intersections, including Hero Honda Chowk, Sohna Road, Manesar, Udyog Vihar, old Gurgaon Road and a few areas in New Gurgaon.
