Around 480 students from across the country will be joining the virtual classes. Online classes for second-year MBA students will commence from August 3. Keeping in mind the safety of the candidates, staff and faculty members in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, all admission interviews were conducted online, an IIM-C statement said. "As it was not feasible to conduct written ability test with fairness through the online admission process, the institute decided not to consider the weightage given for WAT for the final selection of MBA 2020-22 batch," it said. <keyword id="9677501" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="prof-peeyush-mehta">Prof Peeyush Mehta</keyword>, Operations Management Group, said the institute is creating technology solutions for MBA students to "mimic" the <keyword id="9677502" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="classroom-experience">classroom experience</keyword> to the extent possible in online mode. "To make the learning experience better, the students will be distributed across six sections of class strength, 80 in each section. There would be an average of four-five hours of total classroom live contact hours," he said. The institute will also assist students facing internet issues, including providing recordings of a missed class, opportunity to interact with the instructors after the class and additional tutorials, Mehta said. "Overcoming the challenges posed by the pandemic, we have put a plan in place to ensure an excellent learning experience through online onboarding and instruction for the incoming batch," Director, Prof Anju Seth, said. IIM Calcutta to begin online classes for fresh MBA batch from August 10

These are the starting salaries offered to B-school students in India

<ul><li>India’s management schools have this year breached the mark of average salaries for MBA graduates at ₹ 2 million. </li><li>Several non-IIMs including SP Jain Institute of Management and Research and Xaviers School of Management have also been paying over ₹2 million average salaries. </li><li>University Business School (UBS), Punjab University (PU), recorded the highest package at ₹5.3 million this year. </li></ul>Beating the average salary packages offered in India, many top management schools in India have significantly scaled up the starting pay for students graduating in 2019. During the recent placement season, several B-schools — including Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Kozhikode, <a href="https://indianexpress.com/article/education/iit-bombay-placement-rs-32-4-lakh-top-package-for-mba-graduates-5554289/">Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)</a>, Bombay, Management Development Institute (MDI), Gurgaon, Indian Institute of Foreign Technology (IIFT), Delhi and Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) — reportedly offered packages of more than ₹2 million to MBA batches. The highest packages were reported at more than ₹3 million, compared to the average at nearly ₹2 million. According to a Campus Salary Hiring and Employment 2018 report by Mettl, the average salary for MBA graduates last year was recorded as ₹930,000 per annum, which has increased to more than a million this season. The trend clearly indicates business school graduates are now commanding better starting pay. As many as 55 companies breached the average salary mark for MDI this year, for instance, according to ET report. And not all are from the prestigious IIMs. In fact, the highest-paid graduates this year are reportedly from the University Business School (UBS), Punjab University, where the <a href="https://www.tribuneindia.com/news/chandigarh/ubs-touches-new-high-top-package-rs-53-lakh/711070.html">highest package</a> was recorded at ₹5.3 million this year. However, the average remuneration has been at ₹1.17 million for the 2018-19 batch. The average starting salaries for graduates of tier one colleges was recorded as ₹1.5 million, and tier two colleges at ₹534,000, annually, reports ET. The rise in pay may be because companies are now striving to hire quality talent with certain calibre and command, said Ketan Kapoor, Mettl. Startups, consulting firms and multinationals often chase the talent that they apparently find in premium business schools, he added. According to last year stats, the salary packages fetched by participating students crossed ₹2.4 million at the top three IIMs — Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Calcutta. However, several non-IIMs including SP Jain Institute of Management and Research and Xaviers School of Management also have a track of over ₹2 million average salaries by recruiters. Highest paymaster Consulting firms have been paying the highest to the fresh graduates, ET reported citing a senior official at IIM. However, banking and financial services sector also topped the charts this year during placements. India’s B-schools are seeing higher salary packages for graduates — and it’s not just IIMs

Vadodara-based <keyword id="4403629" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Prachi-Sukhwani">Prachi Sukhwani</keyword> (21) is suffering from macular dystrophy, also known as retinal degradation, since class III. Over the years, she lost 80% of her vision because of this rare genetic disorder. However, her condition couldn’t prove to be a barrier in her road to success. 
 
A BBA student at Maharaja Sayajirao University's Faculty of Commerce, Sukhwani has cracked the <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/careers/Engineering-students-continue-to-top-CAT-exams/articleshow/50544337.cms">Common Admission Test</a> (<keyword id="16855" type="CITY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Cat">CAT</keyword>), one of the toughest entrance exams in the country, and scored 98.55 percentile.

This placement season has been a fruitful one so far. Several management institutions — including Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow, Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kozhikode, Management Development Institute (MDI) — clocked in 100% placements in the first week. Over 140 companies visited the offering an average salary package of ₹2.4 million. The highest salary bagged on international offers at IIM Lucknow was ₹5.8 million while the highest recorded domestic salary was at ₹5.4 million. International job offers came from the USA, Dubai, Africa, Qatar and Africa. Average salaries went up by 22% at IIM-K IIM Kozhikode, on the other hand, placed over 400 students, witnessing a 22% increase in the average salaries as compared to last year. The average salary for the batch was ₹2.3 million — which <a href="https://indiaeducationdiary.in/iim-kozhikode-registers-100-final-placement-for-largest-batch-ever-closes-process-in-5-days/" data-type="tilCustomLink">went up to ₹2.7 million for the top performing students.</a> “Despite the negative sentiment of the job market, green energy, and e-commerce sectors along with emerging startups — including education technology startups — have hired this year along with the other traditional firms. IIMK has seen a 200% surge in offers from start-ups along with more than 150% increase in the roles from e-commerce firms securing 12.5% of the total offers from these sectors,” said professor Shovan Chowdhury, chairperson of <keyword id="8671808" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="placements-at-iim">placements at IIM</keyword> Kozhikode. At MDI, Gurgaon, Amazon offered the highest package at ₹4 million. And the average compensation too increased by 9.5% at ₹ 2.2 million. More than half of the offers (57%) were from companies in the consulting, BFSI (Banking, Insurance and Financial Services), technology and telecom. This includes 63 offers from PwC, Deloitte, ICICI Bank, IDFC Bank and Airtel. Automotive, logistics and pharmaceuticals accounted for almost 15% of the offers, Kanwal Kapil, Dean of Placements at MDI, Gurgaon told Business Insider. Average MBA graduate salary grew multifold in the last two years According to a Campus Salary Hiring and Employment 2018 report by Mettl, the average salary for MBA graduates was recorded as ₹930,000 per annum — which has grown multifold in the last two years. While consulting firms are known to pay the highest to the fresh graduates, e-commerce companies like Amazon, Flipkart and Myntra emerged as the top recruiters this year. Flipkart made nine offers while Amazon rolled out 13 offers at IIM Lucknow. Other institutions include The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), Indian Institute of Public Administration and Kalam Centre, Delhi. Back in 2015, we heard of a 19-year-old girl <keyword id="2989140" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Paridhi-Varma">Paridhi Varma</keyword> with only 10% eye vision making it to <keyword id="19478" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="IIM">IIM</keyword> Lucknow. 
 
Such stories have always inspired the young MBA aspirants and encouraged them to pursue their dreams. 
 
This year, there's yet another inspiring story. It is of another visually-challenged student who has made inroads to one of India's best B-School, IIM Kozhikode. 
 We are talking about <keyword id="4057626" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="ambati-venkata-prem-swaroop">Ambati Venkata Prem Swaroop</keyword>, who scored 82.87 percentile points in the recently announced CAT-2016 results. 
 
Considering it requires 60 percentile points for People With Disabilities to get through CAT, Swaroop has delivered a splendid performance in one of India's toughest exam. He is expecting calls from other IIMs as well. 
 Swaroop lost his eyesight when he was eight after high fever damaged his optic nerve. Born to parents who run a grocery store in <keyword id="70188" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Anantapur">Anantapur</keyword> district, he wanted to improve the home-grown business. Unfazed by lost eyesight, he completed his studies like a regular student and enrolled in Career Launcher, eyeing to get into one of the IIMs. Using a reading software, he would listen to pdf versions of books and academic content. 
 
He finally appeared in CAT this year, only to crack the exam and clinch a place in IIM.

"Many students with an engineering background are bent on pursuing an engineering-MBA combination and prepare accordingly. People from other backgrounds don't always take the CAT equally seriously. Also, a lot of the best students from streams such as physics, chemistry and English don't even opt for CAT," said CAT convenor Tathagata Bandyopadhyay of IIM-A. "Otherwise, motivated students from other streams can fare just as well."
