I fear this will not convey everything that I want it to, but I am speaking from the heart and trying my best to communicate my sincere regret. I am deeply embarrassed and more apologetic than you can ever know."</p><p>On June 13, Amram <a href="https://twitter.com/meganamram/status/1271590526127464448?s=20">tweeted:</a> "Today was the day Donald trump finally became president." This led to Twitter user @YouSaidWhaaattt, whose bio reads "Calling racists out for saying racist things," to <a href="https://twitter.com/YouSaidWhaaattt/status/1271678191560728581?s=20">reply</a> to Amram with screenshots of her old tweets dating back to 2012 and 2013.</p><p>One of the tweets read: "If I had a time machine, I'd go back in time and kill Hitler and all of the jews and gypsies and gay people." Another read: "It's not politically correct to say 'retarded' anymore, you have to call them Asian-Americans."</p><p>Amram, who also produced "Silicon Valley" and served as a writer on "<keyword id="1187406" type="ENTERTAINMENT" weightage="60" keywordseo="Parks-and-Recreation">Parks and Recreation</keyword>," apologized specifically to the Asian-American community for her comments.</p><p>"My instinct is to share the varying degrees of explanation for every tweet that has offended, but I know full well there are no excuses. I will be sorry for as long as I live that I have hurt even one person, and I very much understand why my words have hurt many more. Also, I specifically would like to apologize to the Asian American community, who I have hurt most with my tweets. I very much understand why you are hurt."</p><p>Amram also said that as her "platform grew," she learned more about different people's voices and the power and importance of diversity.</p><p>"My platform and jobs are meaningful tools to foster diverse writers, combat workplace discrimination, educate myself, donate and to consciously and vocally support BIPOC, LGBTQ people and more. Every day I go into my jobs, my life and my friendships trying to promote those ideals. I have been doing this work on myself and for others for years and can only promise that I will continue to do so, both publicly and privately. This is not lip service, it is something very important to the core of what I am trying to do with my life."</p><p>The "An Emmy for Megan" creator and star said that she wishes she could take back her tweets as they have been "weighing heavily" on her heart. Amram wrote: "I have spent the last decade attempting to unlearn the complicit racism I participate in as a white person and becoming the vocally supportive ally I think I am now.</p><p>"I have been silent on this in the hopes that my current actions would speak louder than my past words, and that was my mistake, but I would like to make it very clear now how deeply sorry I am. I'm not posting the tweets here since I do not want to hurt people again with those words. But I want to be very clear: I am sorry. 'The Good Place' producer Megan Amram apologized for her offensive past tweets about Asian-Americans and gay people

<p><div class="KonaFilter image-container float_right click-to-enlarge"><div class="image"><a title_source="HBO" title_caption="" Silicon="" Valley="" class="zoomin" href="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/555646796da811465efec700-960/screenshot-2015-05-15-15.12.23.jpg"><span class="sprites click-to-enlarge-icon" title="Click to enlarge"></span></a><p class="source"><span>HBO</span></p><p class="caption">"Silicon Valley"</p></div><p></p></div>HBO plans to hire a few new writers for the next season of "Silicon Valley," including John Levenstein, Donick Cary, and Megan Amram, according to a person familiar with the matter.</p><p>Levenstein is most widely known for his work as a consulting and co-executive producer on "Arrested Development" and executive producer on <span>"The Kroll Show."</span></p><p>This person also said Donick Cary, who has an extensive history in the television industry writing for hit shows such as "The Simpsons," "The David Letterman Show," and "Parks and Recreation," will be brought on for the next season.</p><p>Film and TV industry blog <a href="http://deadline.com/2015/05/donick-cary-overall-deal-cbs-tv-studios-1201428962/">Deadline</a> previously reported that Cary will be loaned out to HBO to be consulting producer for "Silicon Valley" during the first year of his new two-year contract with CBS TV Studios.</p><p>Levenstein and Cary will join comedian and writer Megan Amram, who currently writes for "Parks and Recreation," as a writer for the show. HBO is talking to a producer from 'Arrested Development' about working on the next season of 'Silicon Valley'

<p>Amram is one of the funniest women on Twitter, a writer for NBC's "Parks &amp; Recreation," and the author of a new book called "Science...For Her!" - a satirical textbook-like piece of work in the vein of Stephen Colbert's "I Am America And So Can You."</p>
<p><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Science-For-Her-Megan-Amram/dp/1476757887">"Science...For Her!"</a> hilariously explores one woman's "worst possible opinions on everything," <a href="http://www.esquire.com/blogs/culture/megan-amram-interview">according to Esquire Magazine.</a></p>
<p>Amram, a Harvard grad whose resume includes writing gigs for "Billy On The Street" and <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZdFQ7LAPa9E">Funny Or Die videos</a> with Nick Offerman, talked to Business Insider about writing for an insanely popular television show, dreams of a second book, and, of course, what happens when her humor offends someone on Twitter.</p>

<div><strong>MA: </strong>I think very long and hard about every possibly offensive joke I want to make. I really hate mean humor and would hate to make anyone reading my jokes feel truly bad. I like to think that I only make fun of either 1) very broad things about the human condition (like dying) or 2) the perpetrators of violence or assault, not the victims. For example, my book deals a lot with sexual assault of women in a satirical way, which I guess could be considered "rape" jokes, but it seems obvious to me that I'm making fun of the institution of violence towards women, not the victims of it.</div>

<div><strong>MA: </strong>I can't even count the number of things I learned from writing "Parks &amp; Rec." Mostly because I am a dumb woman who is bad at math. I honestly feel like I wrote with the funniest, sharpest, smartest people who exist in Hollywood. It taught me to have such high standards for the quality of show I want to make. That you should only aim for the funniest, smartest, kindest stories and jokes that you can write. That writing in a talented group pushes you to be more creative and sharp than you ever would've been otherwise.</div>

<p><span style="color: #000000;"><strong>MA:</strong> <span>It's not the most memorable of lines I've written but I think the bit I think is funniest to me is when, in my episode "Animal Control," Harris and Brett (the stoner animal control idiots) are showing Leslie around and Brett shows that they've taped a dead bird to the wall to use as a whistle like the one in the Flintstones opening. It sums up my sense of humor pretty well -- outdated references and dead animals.</span></span></p>
