<a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/mu-stock"></a><ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="5685290" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="60" keywordseo="micron-technology-stock">Micron Technology stock</keyword> jumped as much as 6.5% on Thursday after posting its FQ2 <keyword id="6357061" type="SPONSORED" weightage="60" keywordseo="earnings">earnings</keyword>.</li><li>The company earned non-GAAP net income of $1.13 billion on $6.24 billion in revenue.</li><li>MU beat analyst estimates and posted strong guidance for the fiscal third quarter.</li></ul><p><a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/mu-stock">Micron Technology</a> jumped as much as 6.5% on Thursday after beating top and bottom-line analyst estimates and posting a positive outlook in its fiscal second-quarter <a href="https://investors.micron.com/news-releases/news-release-details/micron-technology-inc-reports-results-second-quarter-fiscal-2021">earnings release.</a></p><p>The Boise, Idaho-based memory and storage solutions provider posted non-GAAP net income of $1.13 billion which equates to earning per share of $0.98. The figure topped consensus estimates by $0.03.</p><p><keyword id="178039" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Micron">Micron</keyword> also saw revenues jump 30% from $4.8 billion for the same period last year to $6.24 billion in its fiscal second-quarter results, topping analysts' consensus estimates of $6.21 billion.</p><p>Operating cash flow of $3.06 billion was strong in comparison to the $1.97 billion for the prior quarter and $2 billion for the same period last year as well.</p><p>Micron stock traded up 5% at $92.61 as of 11:33 a.m. ET on Thursday, having hit a session high at $94.38 earlier.</p><p>The company guided for revenue of between $6.9 billion and $7.3 billion in the upcoming fiscal third quarter. That's compared to $5.44 billion from the same period a year ago. Gross margins are expected to be 41.5% with GAAP Diluted EPS hitting $1.52.</p><p>"Micron's strong fiscal second-quarter performance reflects rapidly improving market conditions and continued solid execution," said <keyword id="154806" type="COMPANY" weightage="60" keywordseo="Micron-Technology">Micron Technology</keyword> President and CEO Sanjay Mehrotra.</p><p>"Our technology leadership in both DRAM and NAND places Micron in an excellent position to capitalize on the secular demand driven by AI and 5G, and to deliver new levels of user experience and innovation across the data center and intelligent edge," the CEO added.</p><p>Micron Technology has traded steadily between $90-$95 per share over the last month, but the stock is up roughly 93% in the past six months.</p><p>Ahead of earnings, Rosenblatt Securities analyst Hans Mosesmann reiterated his "buy" rating and price target of $150 on the firm.</p><p>Needham &amp; Company also maintained its "buy" rating on shares of Micron with a price target of $120.</p><p>Rosenblatt's price target represents a potential 61% surge from April 1 intraday highs, while Needham's represents a potential 30% jump.</p><p>Overall analysts are bullish on shares of Micron. The company <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/mu-stock">boasts</a> 47 "buy" ratings, 10 "neutral" ratings, and just one "sell" ratings from analysts.</p><p>Micron traded up 3.75% as of 1:44 p.m. ET after paring gains on Thursday.</p><div type="image" title="MU stock chart" height="663" width="833" msid="81857396" hostid="261"></div>

Micron Technology jumps 6.5% after beating top and bottom-line analyst estimates, posting positive outlook

<ul class="summary-list"><li><keyword id="11910631" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="boeing" source="Orion">Boeing</keyword> shares fell Monday following the crash of a <keyword id="12729031" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="boeing-737-800" source="Orion">Boeing 737-800</keyword> plane run by <keyword id="13430985" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="60" keywordseo="china-eastern-airlines" source="Orion">China Eastern Airlines</keyword>. </li><li>There was no immediate confirmation about whether there were any survivors. </li></ul><p>Shares of <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/ba-stock">Boeing</a> dropped Monday following reports that a Boeing 737-800 airplane operated by China Eastern Airlines crashed in southern China with 132 people on board. </p><p>There was no immediate information on whether there were any survivors from the flight. The <a href="https://www.insider.com/china-eastern-airlines-flight-with-130-people-crashes-in-guangxi-2022-3">crash was confirmed</a> by China Eastern and the Civil Aviation Administration of China.</p><p>Boeing stock fell as much as 9% premarket to $175.36 in heavy volume of more than 1 million shares exchanged. The stock pared losses at the open, with shares down about 5%.</p><p>The stock this year through Friday's session had lost slightly more than 4%. </p><p>Flight MU5735 was headed to Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport after departing from Kunming Changshui International Airport at 1:11 p.m. local time. The flight was carrying 123 passengers and 9 crew members. </p><p>The plane crashed in the southern province of Guangxi. Footage from the scene showed a large fire at the crash site, according to the <a href="https://www.scmp.com/news/china/article/3171258/chinese-plane-crashes-132-passengers-and-crew-board?module=lead_hero_story&amp;pgtype=homepage">South China Morning Post newspaper</a>. </p><p>NYSE-listed <a href="https://markets.businessinsider.com/stocks/cea-stock">shares of China Eastern Airlines</a> also fell early Monday. They declined as much as 18% before paring the loss to 12%. </p><p>Boeing's 737 Max passenger plane model was grounded worldwide following two separate deadly crashes - Lion Air Flight 610 in the Java Sea on October 29, 2018, and Ethiopian Airlines Flight 302 on March 10, 2019.  The model began returning to service in 2021, with China expected to clear its return in 2022, <a href="https://www.reuters.com/business/aerospace-defense/boeing-737-max-jet-headed-toward-china-completion-plant-source-2022-03-15/">according to Reuters</a>.</p>

Einhorn's </span><span>only previous down year was in 2008, </span><a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-08-31/einhorn-s-greenlight-falls-5-3-as-august-rout-deepens-decline">when his fund lost 23%</a><span>.</span></p><p><span>His performance was so bad, that it prompted one of his kids to give him <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/david-einhorns-kids-investment-advice-2016-1">some brutal investment advice</a>: "Dad, why don't you just short your longs and long your shorts?"</span></p><p><span>Greenlight's portfolio had very few winners. To make matters worse, the fund's worst-performing investments-Consol Energy (CNX), Micron Technology (MU), and SunEdison (SUNE)-<span>also happened to be among the fund's largest positions. </span></span></p><p><span><span>Consol fell more than 77% over the course of 2015, while Micron fell more than 59% and SunEdison dropped 74%. </span></span></p><p>"These aren't our first big losses nor are they likely to be our last, and while our goal is to minimize them, they come with the territory of running a concentrated portfolio," Einhorn wrote.</p><p>In his 20 years of running the fund, Einhorn has had some big losers in his portfolio. </p><p>"Nothing distinguishes these from our other large losers in prior years. What's unusual is that they all happened at or around the same time. Having three in a single year is both unfortunate and too many for us to be able to succeed."</p><p>To illustrate his point, he shared the chart below. Without those three stocks, Einhorn's fund was down around 5%. How 3 stocks decimated David Einhorn's investment performance

Several states in <keyword id="3658" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="india" source="Orion">India</keyword> are likely to see a power shortage in the coming weeks as power plants struggle to find optimum amounts of thermal coal amid rising summer demand, higher import costs and the resultant supply tightness, sources told S&amp;P Global Commodity Insights.<br /><br />Global thermal coal prices have remained elevated as a fallout of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which disrupted trade flows and crippled supply amid additional demand from <keyword id="28249" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="europe" source="Orion">Europe</keyword>, which has now sanctioned Russian coal.<br /><br />As a result, imported coal has largely remained out of bounds for price-sensitive markets like India, S&amp;P Global Commodity Insights said.<br /><br />The shortage level was even higher at 80.08 million units on April 7, which raised concerns among several market participants, who said the crunch was near to mid-October 2021 levels when India faced an acute power crisis as the stockpile at 115 power plants slipped to critical levels.<br /><br />According to a notice issued by the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd. on March 31, reviewed by S&amp;P Global, the state has decided to temporarily curtail electricity supply to segments of agricultural power consumers in the state.<br /><br />Other provinces where high supply shortages were recorded on April 10 include <keyword id="6355554" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="madhya-pradesh" source="Orion">Madhya Pradesh</keyword> (9.67 MU), the union territories of Jammu and <keyword id="6354495" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="kashmir" source="Orion">Kashmir</keyword> and Ladakh (cumulatively 4.65 MU), <keyword id="6354953" type="General" weightage="50" keywordseo="punjab" source="Orion">Punjab</keyword> (4.5 MU), Haryana (4.39 MU) and Jharkhand (2.29 MU).<br /><br />S&amp;P Global reported April 1 that India needs to increase thermal coal imports to meet rising power demand during the peak summers, even as import prices remain elevated due to supply tightness created by the Russia-Ukraine conflict.<br /><br />India's state-run Coal India said March 28 that its pithead stock is expected to rise above 60 million mt by April 1, 39.39% lower than the corresponding period in the previous year. India to face more power cuts amid coal shortage and rising demand

The company raised $153 million from WestBridge Capital in a Series C round. <br /><br />A unicorn, in startup parlance, is a company valued at over a billion dollars. <br /><br />“With this financing, we will double down on growth investments in India and North America, start building in APAC [Asia-Pacific] and EMEA [Europe, the Middle East and Africa], add new offerings to our product portfolio, and fund acquisitions. <p style="padding-left: 30px;">Good Morning! Futures are lower, as global equities seemed to take a whack around 5 AM ET on better-than-expected EU data, oddly met by a surge in the yen against the euro. E-minis are off 15 basis points, but AAPL has a bid on China headlines, helping Nasdaq futures to slightly outperform.  Over in Europe, despite strong German data, the DAX is under slight pressure, but the EU financials remain on their upward tear, adding another 1% (EU Fin Index up 5% in 2014). Volumes across Europe are heavy, with major markets trading 50-80% higher than their 20-day averages. Over in Asia, Japan's Nikkei jumped 1.9% after this week's slump, but futures are indicating the Nikkei 1% lower right now as the yen is catching a bid. China lost small, as their biggest IPO in years is getting scaled back, while Aussie was off small weighed down by continued pressure in the materials sector. In single stocks pre-open - MU is the big gainer, adding 10% on earnings, and BAC is adding 1% as global bank stocks are in favor this AM (Japan, UK and Chinese banks all up 1.5%+). Losers include TWTR (-3% on Cantor downgrade), and MSFT off 1% (Mulally staying at F).</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">U.S. yields are up very small ahead of ADP and FOMC minutes, and focus is on central bank Thursday, with ECB, BOE, Korea, and Indonesia on tap. The DXY is jumping, but at expense of €, Not yen - providing a headwind to commodities early this AM. Gold is off 25 basis points, as it retreats from continued failures against the 50-day moving average - and attention will be on ore with negative headlines for pricing in the WSJ. Energy complex remains higher in the U.S., as cold weather combined with a massive WTI draw last week support the complex. Brent is outperforming WTI (discount nearing $14) as shipment expectations for February are reduced and continued concerns over supply from Libya and Iraq.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">There is heavy focus on the ADP employment print today at 8:30 and the FOMC minutes at 2. Aside from that, energy players are watching the DOE data at 10:30, as well as the GS conference today. Bond investors will be focused on the 1 PM 10-year auction (3-year auction was weak yesterday), and retail/financial investors will be watching the 3 PM consumer credit print.</p>

Here's A 10-Second Guide To What Traders Are Chatting About This Morning

<p>Last month, Einhorn, who runs Greenlight Capital, <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/einhorn-goes-after-seeking-alpha-writer-2014-2">filed a court petition</a> requesting that Seeking Alpha reveal the identity of an anonymous blogger called "Valuable Insights."<strong> </strong></p>
<p>Greenlight alleged that Valuable Insights <span>disclosed the hedge fund's trade secrets and breached confidentiality by revealing his fund's stake in Micron Technology before it was made public. (<span>Einhorn didn't publicly reveal his investment in semiconductor producer Micron </span><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/david-einhorn-robin-hood-2013-11">until the inaugural charity Robin Hood Investors Conference on November 21, 2013.</a>)<span></span></span><span><br /></span></p>
<p><span>Greenlight explained in its court petition that the fund began building its Micron stake on July 2, 2013, which was during the third quarter.</span></p>
<p>Forty-five days after each quarter ends, hedge funds of a certain size are required to report their long stock holdings with the Securities and Exchange Commission in a form known as a 13-F. Greenlight Capital didn't report the Micron stake in <a href="http://www.sec.gov/Archives/edgar/data/1079114/000114036113042772/xslForm13F_X01/form13fInfoTable.xml">the third-quarter 13-F dated November 14, 2013</a>. </p>
<p><span><span>Greenlight said it requested confidentiality treatment via a "Confidentiality Letter" request filed with the SEC on November 14, 2013. The fund did that so they could continue to add to the position, the court petition said. </span></span></p>
<p>According to Greenlight, the only people who knew about the Micron investment were Greenlight's employees, legal counsel, prime and executing brokers and other agents, the court document says. Those people have a contractual or fiduciary responsibility to keep these investments confidential. </p>
<p>Greenlight claimed that before 9:32 a.m. EST on November 14, 2013, before it had filed its "Confidentiality Letter" with the SEC, Valuable Insights wrote on Seeking Alpha,<strong> "Expect one mega hedge fund rock star to show up as [Micron] holder today, not Ackman, Icahn or Loeb..."</strong></p>
<p>We couldn't find the post that Greenlight refers to, but we did find that Valuable Insights <a href="https://twitter.com/ValInsights/status/400968369664319488">Tweeted the Micron hint earlier at 7:48 a.m</a> on November 14.</p>

<p><span>Greenlight said that Valuable Insights also posted hints on Seeking Alpha about the identity of the fund manager and later confirmed it by saying "you heard it hear first" when one user on the site guessed "Einhorn."  </span></p>
<p><span>Greenlight said that it believes that Valuable Insights owned Micron's stock. </span>According to a November 18, 2013 post we found, Valuable Insights wrote that they were long Micron (MU). </p>

<p>Consequently, Greenlight said that they had to purchase the stock at a higher price point following the Seeking Alpha posting. </p>
<p>Greenlight has also said that Seeking Alpha has refused to voluntarily disclose the Valuable Insight's identity. That's why they're petitioning the court. </p>
<p>According to Valuable Insights profile, they're an <a href="http://seekingalpha.com/author/valuable-insights">"Analyst and Fund Manager with almost 20 years investment experience. Coverage includes a variety of industries, with a focus on technology."</a></p>
<p>What's more is since the date of the petition, February 14, 2014, Valuable Insights hasn't blogged on Seeking Alpha <a href="https://twitter.com/valinsights">or Tweeted.</a></p>

<p>Seeking Alpha's site says that they like people to use their real names, but many "well-known, veteran stock market bloggers" use pseudonyms.</p>
<p>"While Seeking Alpha editors greatly prefer that our authors use their real names, we recognize that is not always possible. Due to regulations at their workplace or other factors, some contributors are not able to reveal their real names. In addition, many well-known, veteran stock market bloggers (some of the finest, in fact) write under a pseudonym," <a href="http://seekingalpha.com/page/policy_anonymous_contributors">the site's policy states.</a></p>
<p>A representative for Greenlight Capital declined to comment. We've also reached out to folks at Seeking Alpha to get their side of the story. </p>

The two sides have agreed to InBev paying <span>£44 ($67.62) per share of SABMiller, valuing the world's second largest brewer at <span>£71.2 billion ($109.4 billion), a 50% premium to where SAB was trading when InBev made its initial offer. The deal will give AB InBev control of one-third of the world's beer supply even with Miller expected to be spun off to avoid US regulatory concerns. </span></span></p><p><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/chinese-imports-plunge-again-adding-to-economic-concerns-2015-10"><strong>The slide in China's imports produced a record trade surplus</strong></a><strong>.</strong> China's trade surplus hit $60.34 billion (<span>Rmb376.2bn), a near-record in US dollar terms (a record in local currency terms). Imports sank 20.4% year-over year, which was far worse than the 15.0% drop that analysts were anticipating. Meanwhile, exports fell 3.7%, missing the 6.3% gain that was expected. <span>"We continue to believe that the situation is not nearly as dire as the headline contraction in import values, which have been dragged down by global commodity price deflation, suggest. Import volumes are holding up much better," Julian Evans-Pritchard, <span>chief China economist at Capital Economics, wrote. China's yuan eased 0.3% to 6.3410 per dollar.</span></span></span></p><p><strong><a href="http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-10-13/china-car-sales-grow-at-slowest-pace-in-3-years-before-tax-cut">China's auto sales slowed</a> </strong>Passenger-vehicle sales in China rose 5.8% through the first nine months of the year, making for their slowest pace of expansion in three years, according to Bloomberg. Sales have totaled 14.4 million units so far this year, with Mercedes-Benz seeing a 31% jump through September. On the flip side, GM has seen sales fall in give of the past six months, but sales are still up 1.6% this year. October is expected to be a strong month for sales after Beijing cut the sales tax in half for smaller engines, which make up nearly two-thirds of vehicles, Bloomberg reports.</p><p><strong><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/uk-inflation-figures-for-september-2015-10?r=UK&amp;IR=T">UK consumer prices turned negative</a>. </strong>UK CPI fell 0.1% YoY in September, making for just the second negative reading since 1960. The drop in prices was largely impacted by oil, but clothing and footwear were also a drag. The British pound is weaker by 0.7% at 1.5247.</p><p><strong><a href="http://www.zew.de/en/press/3167/zew-indicator-of-economic-sentiment---further-setback-for-economic-sentiment">German investor confidence is fading</a>. </strong>ZEW Economic Sentiment tumbled to 1.9 in October, down from its previous reading of 12.1. ZEW said, <span>"The exhaust gas scandal of Volkswagen and the weak growth of emerging markets has dampened economic outlook for Germany." The surrent assessment also fell, sliding to 55.2 from 67.5. The euro is up 0.2% at 1.1378.</span></p><p><strong><a href="http://global.sap.com/corporate-en/investors/newsandreports/news.epx?articleID=25010&amp;category=45">SAP posted a strong quarter</a>. </strong>Europe's largest software maker announced adjusted revenue rose 17% to <span>€</span><span>4.99 billion ($5.7 billion). A 19% rise in adjusted operating profit ran the total to <span>€1.62 billion, which was ahead of the <span>€1.53 billion that the Bloomberg consensus was expecting. <span>Non-IFRS cloud and software revenue climbed 19% (12% at constant currencies) to €4.12 billion</span><span> <span> "Our strong double-digit growth in cloud and software revenue was mainly driven by excellent results in mature markets. SAP's global resilience helped us also sail through stormy waters in emerging markets where we expect to continue to see volatility and economic challenges," CFO Luka Mu cic said in the release.</span></span></span></span></span></p><p><span><strong><a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/fortress-reportedly-closing-macro-fund-2015-10">Novogratz is leaving Fortress</a>. </strong>A person close to the matter told Bloomberg that hedge fund titan Michael Novogratz is leaving Fortress because of a disastrous year. Novogratz's Fortress Macro Fund lost 4.67% in September and is down 17.49% so far in 2015. According to Hedge Fund Research, the fund is greatly lagging its peers, which on average are down 0.64%.</span></p><p><strong>Stocks markets around the world are lower. </strong>France's CAC (-1.3%) leads the way lower in Europe after Japan's Nikkei (-1.1%) lagged in Asia. China's Shanghai Composite (+0.1%) eked out a gain. S&amp;P 500 futures are lower by 9.50 points at 2001.50.</p><p><strong>US economic data is light. </strong>The Treasury budget crosses the wires at 2 p.m. ET.
