The capital expenditure (CAPEX) by public sector <keyword id="19922493" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="coal" source="keywords">coal</keyword> companies has touched ₹20,153 crore as on January this year, marking 95.83 per cent progress towards the target of is ₹21,030 crore fixed for the current financial year ending on March 31, 2024, the <keyword id="19922492" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="coal-ministry" source="keywords">Coal Ministry</keyword> said on Wednesday. "Coal sector PSUs (public sector undertakings) have been at the forefront with their CAPEX to assist and contribute in transforming Indian economy and as we navigate through the current fiscal year of 2023-24, both CIL and <keyword id="20174233" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nlcil" source="keywords">NLCIL</keyword> are on track to exceed their CAPEX targets yet again," the ministry said. CAPEX is one of the crucial parts of the economic dynamics, which has a multiplier and trickle-down impact on the overall economy boosting consumption, demand and spurs industrial growth, creates employment and long-lasting infrastructure from which durable benefits accrue to the country over a long period of time. Over the past few years, Coal CPSEs has been over achieving the CAPEX Target. In FY 21-22, CIL &amp; NLCIL had achieved 104.88 per cent &amp; 123.33 per cent respectively of their target. Similar performance was repeated in FY 2022-23 where both Coal CPSEs achieved around 113 per cent of its target. Coal sector PSUs poised to cross ₹21,030 crore Capex target for 2023-24

New Delhi, State-owned <keyword id="19909029" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="bhel" source="keywords">BHEL</keyword> on Wednesday said it has bagged an order to set up a 2,400 <keyword id="20225858" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="mw-supercritical-thermal-power-project" source="keywords">MW supercritical thermal power project</keyword> (STPP) from coal <keyword id="20225857" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="psu-nlc" source="keywords">PSU NLC</keyword> India Ltd. This is the largest power sector order won by the company through competitive bidding, BHEL said in a statement. "BHEL bags an order for setting up a 2,400 MW Supercritical Thermal <keyword id="47379" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="power-project" source="Orion">Power Project</keyword>. BHEL has won the prestigious order under <keyword id="20225859" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="international-competitive-bidding" source="keywords">International Competitive Bidding</keyword> (ICB) for the greenfield project on an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) basis at Jharsuguda in Odisha," the company said. The scope of the EPC contract includes engineering, manufacturing, supply, erection, and commissioning of crucial equipment, such as boilers, turbines, generators, and other auxiliary systems, for the 3x800 MW thermal power project. The scope also includes boilers with biomass co-firing capability and highly efficient latest pollution control equipment. The project will be commissioned within 64 months. On commissioning, this plant will contribute to meeting the future base load requirement of electricity in the country. The major equipment will be manufactured at BHEL's Trichy, Haridwar, Hyderabad, Jhansi, Bengaluru, Ranipet, Bhopal, Rudrapur, and Varanasi plants while the company's power sector - southern region will be responsible for the civil works, and erection and commissioning of the equipment. BHEL has a long-standing partnership with <keyword id="20174233" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="nlcil" source="keywords">NLCIL</keyword> and installed a significant 77 per cent of the coal/lignite-based power stations of the utility, totalling 3,590 MW. It is the largest manufacturer of power generation equipment in the country and has been a major partner in the country's vision to achieve self-reliance in energy.

Let us take a look at what it means to be a Navratna CPSE. The term ‘Navratna’ refers to a select group of top-performing CPSEs that have been granted greater autonomy and financial powers by the Indian government in recognition of their superior performance. The term ‘Navratna’, meaning nine gems, is used metaphorically to suggest that these companies are like the nine precious gems that shine brightly in the crown of Indian PSEs. With RVNL added to the list, there are 13 Navratna companies The Navratna status was first granted to nine public sector enterprises in 1997 by the Indian government. Since then, a few more enterprises were added to this exclusive group based on their performance and on meeting the eligibility criteria. Currently there are 13 Navratnas, including RVNL. These are: <ol><li>Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) </li><li>Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) </li><li>Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) </li><li>Engineers India Limited (EIL) </li><li>NMDC Limited </li><li>Bharat Electronics Limited (BHEL) </li><li>National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC) </li><li>Oil India Limited (OIL) </li><li>Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) </li><li>Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) </li><li>National Aluminium Company (NALCO) </li><li>NLC India Limited (NLCIL) </li></ol>The number of Navratnas went as high as 14 but since two companies were elevated to the status of a Maharatna – Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) in September 2022 and Power Finance Corporation (PFC) in October 2022 – the number of Navratnas now stands at 13, including RVNL. The ‘Ratnas’ of the Indian public sector CPSE units are categorised as Maharatna, Navratna and Miniratnas. Navratna: First, let us look at the Navratna companies. Normally, a CPSE requires permission from the Indian government to invest a large sum of money in a project or a deal. The Navratna companies are CPSE companies that have been granted financial independence to invest up to ₹1,000 crore without seeking approval from the central government. Navratna companies are also allowed to invest up to 15% of their net worth on a single project, or 30% of their net worth in a given year, subject to a cap of ₹1,000 crore. This increased financial freedom gives Navratna companies a competitive edge when competing globally. Maharatna: To be granted "Maharatna" status, a company must meet certain eligibility criteria. This includes recording a net profit of more than ₹5,000 crore for three consecutive years, maintaining an average annual turnover of over ₹25,000 crore for three years, or having an average annual net worth of over ₹15,000 crore for three years. Additionally, the company must have a global presence or international operations to qualify for this status. When a Navratna company achieves these criteria, it is upgraded to a Maharatna company. Currently, there are 12 Maharatna companies including Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), Coal India Limited (CIL), and Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL). Miniratna: In India, CPSEs that are eligible for the Miniratna status are those that have a minimum pre-tax profit of ₹30 crore in at least one of the three consecutive years and maintain a positive net worth. Some of the Miniratna companies are Airports Authority of India (AAI), Antrix Corporation Limited (Antrix), Balmer Lawrie &amp; Co. Limited (Bl), and Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), Miniratna companies are upgraded to Navratna companies when they fulfil the eligibility criteria, just like RVNL. Jobs at Maharatna, Navaratna and Miniratna companies are in high demand since they pay a handsome salary in addition to providing job security. Also, public sector undertakings (PSUs) are known for taking good care of their employees by providing various benefits such as medical facilities, emergency allowances and sufficient leave options.

New Delhi, Mar 20 () In the wake of coronavirus outbreak, state-owned Coal India Ltd has taken measures like setting up of isolation wards in hospitals run by its arms and encouraging usage of e-office, the coal ministry said on Friday. In order to contain the spread of coronavirus infection, the PSU has also taken measures like awareness drives for employees and contractual staff especially for frontline staff, cafeteria staff, drivers, housekeeping staff and maintenance personnel, the coal ministry said in a statement. All sports, events and public gatherings among others has been discontinued until further orders, it said. The recruitment exam has been postponed until further orders. The employees having history of foreign travel or contact with travellers from foreign countries are being identified and screened in Coal India arm WCL. "Ministry of Coal is taking various measures for prevention against COVID-19 to ensure strict compliance of the Advisories issued by Government of India from time to time," the statement said. The Ministry of Coal at its headquarters in Shastri Bhawan, New Delhi, has deployed a dedicated team of cleaning staff to ensure proper cleanliness and sanitizing of the work place, frequently touched surfaces viz. door handles, door locks, office floors, common corridor and office equipment. At NLC India Ltd (NLCIL), recent travel history in the prescribed format is being obtained for all the guests arriving in company's guest houses. "Four wards with isolation facilities in NLCIL General Hospital for quarantining 73 persons are kept in readiness to handle any emergency in the context of COVID 19," the statement said. Training workshops were organised for doctors and paramedical staff of NLCIL general hospital on COVID-19. "NLCIL maintains around 20,000 self-contained quarters under its ambit and health and hygiene of the township," it said. All the health inspectors have been sensitized on the COVID-19. New Delhi, Apr 10 () From setting up 'fever clinic' to 'disinfecting tunnel', NLC India has taken several initiatives to ensure the safety of its employees against the deadly Covid-19. The navratna said, the disinfecting tunnel ensures protection to all employees before they enter the plants and mines, while fever clinic is for those with symptoms like fever, cough and breathing difficulties. "NLC Thermal team has fabricated disinfecting tunnels by using packing material and spares available with power plants which are now being used by all the power plants and mines in Neyveli," a company official said. Moreover, NLC India Ltd (NLCIL) has introduced 'fever clinic' which function from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM for symptomatic patients who have a travel history to affected places and those who report with symptoms like fever, cough and breathing difficulties, the official said. Such patients with symptoms and travel history are recommended for home quarantine, he added Moreover, through public screening and massive door-to-door enumeration, the company has also identified symptomatic patients who have a travel history to affected places. Based on recommendation of the doctors, they have been home quarantined, the official said adding that till date 460 persons have been home quarantined. Moreover, a taskforce consisting of trained volunteers are monitoring the status of persons home quarantined. With the co-ordination of state government health department, stickers have been pasted at the residents of persons quarantined for better screening and control, the official said. NLCIL has taken up measures for in-house preparation of liquid soap solution, sanitisers at its research centre.
