Earlier, Ola and <keyword id="6364641" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Uber-drivers">Uber drivers</keyword> used to get commissions ranging from Rs 70,000 and Rs 1 lakh per month. However, these incomes have now come down to an average of Rs 40,000-50,000, thanks to the scarcity of cash with these companies after years of heavy spending.

Cabby, the cab aggregator app to be launched today, has been developed by Sahil Arora, a seventeen-year-old school dropout from Gurgaon. The app will have 25,000 operational cabs in NCR, following which it would move to <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/bengaluru-feel-relieved-as-ola-anduber-drivers-call-off-strike/articleshow/57221582.cms">Bengaluru</a>.

 Cabby would charge a base fare of Rs 37.50 for the first 2 km, followed by Rs 12.5 per km. Arora told ET that this is actually very competitive, and the fare would be lesser than what <keyword id="6354720" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ola">Ola</keyword> and Uber charge.

The second cab-aggregator app to be launched today is from 74 BC Technologies, operational from <a href="http://www.businessinsider.in/UberMOTO-enters-Gurgaon/articleshow/51603369.cms">Gurgaon</a> where it is known for the bike taxi aggregator Baxi. 
 
Baxi is now launching cab services in seven cities including Delhi, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai and Bengaluru. Acting as a technology provider for the app, it will be available free of cost for cab drivers. 
 
"Baxi will not take any commission from the drivers to use their technology platform," said Ashutosh Johri, co-founder of Baxi and an IIT Delhi alumnus. It would charge a base fare of Rs 50, followed by Rs 9 per km. Having around 1,000 cabs in its fleet, it would also have Re 1/minute wait charges.

Two new apps to take on Ola and Uber in NCR

As Delhi is reeling under shortage of cabs of Ola and Uber, Bengaluru is breathing releif. After the cab aggregators assured them to listen to their plea, the protesting drivers of Ola and Uber have called off their strike. 
 
President of the Ola, TaxiForSure, Uber (OTU) Drivers and Owners Association Tanveer Pasha told The Times of India, the protest was withdrawn as cab aggregators promised to look into their grievances on Tuesday or Wednesday next. 
 
"We will decide our next course of action after the meeting," he said. 
 
Of the two drivers who consumed poison during Thursday's protest before the Ola office in Murugeshpalya, one of them, Mohan Babu, continues to be in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the KIMS Hospital. 
 
The other, Srinivas, was discharged on Thursday after being treated in the outpatient department.

It’s not everyday cab hailing services in India gets a pat on their back on social media. While most of the days they must be combating complaints and nasty feedbacks, today seemed a bit different. Bengaluru based cab service Ola Cab, throttling in top gear for their recent acquisitions had a weird tweet on their micro blogging site. A Hyderabad based ‘Physician’ Seelam Veerapa Naidu made an offensive request and asking for a cab with a 'driver of Hindu faith only'.
 Ola’s smart reply, “Sorry, we don't discriminate against our drivers on the basis of their religion” took the social media by storm. This drew appreciations from Ola’s competitors Uber and Easy Cabs and also erstwhile J&amp;K CM <keyword id="19464" type="PERSON" weightage="80" keywordseo="Omar-Abdullah">Omar Abdullah</keyword> among others. Naidu’s attempt to defend his request by tweeting "My intention is not to hurt anyone" didn’t stop people from hateful and sarcastic tweets throughout the day.

And the startups are doing their part to stay involved in the process. Indian ride-hailing unicorn Ola Cabs, for whom Bengaluru is home base, has allotted 270 cabs to the Election Commission. These cabs will help Persons with Disabilities commute to the polling booths in Bengaluru, Mysuru and Mangaluru. Ola has also made it possible for Nodal Officers to check on the status of the scheduled pick-ups of PwD voters through calls to the driver partners. “In the recent past, we have seen that availability of convenient transport options has resulted in positive voter turnout and we will continue to back initiatives that support the constitutional machinery of the country. We are glad to partner with the local authorities and facilitate hassle-free mobility for every voter in Bengaluru,” said Vishnu Bommareddy, Regional Head – South at Ola. Meanwhile, Bengaluru-based Sharechat has weeded out 487,000 posts on its platform which violated community guidelines because of abusive content. Sharechat, which is India's own social media platform had earlier signed the 'Voluntary Code of Ethics’ to make way for fair elections. But as they go out to vote, entrepreneurs have a lot to ask from the government. From access to funding to angel tax issues and better policies, <keyword id="138263" type="PERSON" weightage="20" keywordseo="startup">startup</keyword> founders had a list of reasons as they set out to vote. “Startups expect support from an extended eco-system, which includes the government. The biggest hurdle to bring such ideas to the fore is access to capital. In this light, the angel tax should be abandoned with immediate effect. It goes against the ethos of supporting innovation,” said Mayank Bidawatka, co-founder of Vokal, which is an information and knowledge sharing app to bridge the digital knowledge gap among non-English internet users by enabling peer-to-peer knowledge sharing using voice. Another point raised by startups is the possibility of internet monopolies in India and the required action that the government has to take to stop it from happening. “Our government should also have policies around creating a fair playing ground for home grown companies to take on global competitors that have a capital advantage because of existing international operations,” said Bidawatka. When it comes to policies, it's not just about the introduction of new ones but also more work on the current ones. “The most important problem to solve is that startups need a lot more clarity on what are the regulations and compliances in black &amp; white. The ambiguity slows down the innovation more than anything,” said Rajan Bajaj, founder and CEO, Slicepay. With the Twitter hashtag #VoteMaadi, Bengalureans persuaded each other to go out and vote. Harish Bijoor, a brand consultant, voted at the polling booth at the Seventh Day Adventist High School on Old Airport Road, Bengaluru. “The opening crowds in the queues were robust, I only hope we beat our voting turnout number of last elections,” Bijoor told Business Insider, right after he cast his vote. Elections 2019: From Angel Tax to better policies, here’s why the city of startups headed out to vote

New Delhi, May 18 () Ride-hailing platforms Ola and Uber on Monday announced resuming operations in more cities, including Delhi and Bengaluru, following new guidelines for the fourth phase of the lockdown. Cab services were suspended for more than 50 days in Delhi and Bengaluru due to restrictions imposed by the government to contain the spread of coronavirus. "In compliance with Lockdown 4.0 guidelines by the Government, Uber is resuming services across more cities in India. Riders will constantly be notified with further information and the status of specific cities through our app," it said in a blogpost. With the 10 new cities, Uber will be available in total of 35 cities in the country. The company had earlier resumed operations in 25 cities. Ola said driver-partners operating three and four-wheelers on the platform will be available in the states of Karnataka, Telangana, Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, Tamil Nadu (except Chennai), Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, and Assam. "This also brings relief to millions of drivers-partners whose livelihoods depend on serving citizens on a daily basis. In all of the over 160 cities where Ola is now operational, enhanced safety protocols are applicable across every single trip," Ola said in response to an emailed query. In Delhi, taxis and cabs will be allowed but only two passengers at a time will be allowed in the car. According to industry executives, services for travelling between locations in two states (for example, Delhi and Gurugram) will still not be available under the current rules. Ola and Uber outlined steps for ensuring the safety of riders and driver-partners. Ola said its safety protocol includes compulsory mask usage for driver-partners and passengers, complete sanitisation of cars post-trips, and adhering to social distancing norms by limiting to two passengers per ride. Earlier on Monday, Uber announced that both driver and rider will mandatorily have to use face masks during a ride. Also, drivers will have to upload a selfie wearing a face mask before going online on the platform. These companies will also allow drivers and riders to cancel trips if they do not feel safe, including if a user is not wearing a mask or face cover. Uber and Ola had suspended operations after the government announced a nationwide lockdown from March 25 to contain the spread of COVID-19 infection. They allowed only people in essential services like healthcare, banking and media to commute and the restricted mobility left driver-partners of cab services like Ola and Uber with no source of income. After 40 days of lockdown, some relaxations were provided in the third phase (May 4 onwards), including allowing cab services to operate in orange and green zones. Uber started operations in 25 cities, including Jamshedpur, Kochi, Cuttack and Guwahati (green zone) as well as locations like Amritsar, Rohtak, Gurugram and Visakhapatnam (orange zone). Ola had said its services were available in more than 100 cities. The demand and supply had been low in the first few days after these platforms had resumed services. According to industry executives, demand was low in various cities as people were stepping out only for essential travel, while the number of vehicles on the road was also limited as a fraction of drivers logged onto work. Lockdown 4.0: Uber, Ola resume services in more cities

Taxi aggregator <keyword id="6354720" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ola">Ola</keyword> is looking at a three-fold rise in the number of daily bookings through its platform to three million by April next year. 

	Currently, the Bengaluru-based company has operations in 102 cities with over 3.25 lakh vehicles are registered on its platform. 
 

	Ola sees over one million daily booking requests at current scale and has served over 150 million cumulative bookings on its platform till date, it said in a statement. 
 

	"The company Ola has grown three times its size over the last six months from April 2015. We expect to clock three million booking requests a day, by April 2016," it added. 
 <keyword id="1543567" type="COMPANY" weightage="100" keywordseo="Bhavish-Aggarwal">Bhavish Aggarwal</keyword>, co-founder and CEO of Ola, said the company has served 25 million unique customers in India. "Our next phase of growth will be fuelled by newer, innovative solutions like <keyword id="3071535" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ola-Share">Ola Share</keyword>, Ola Prime and others, which are now being piloted on a large scale in select cities. It is important to bring in increased efficiencies on utilisation at this massive scale, with the same reliability and convenience," he added. 

	Currently, Ola adds up to 1,500 vehicles on its platform on a daily basis. 
 The Softbank-backed company, which launched a cab-leasing programme through a subsidiary earlier this year, said the initiative will help add another one lakh <keyword id="432469" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="100" keywordseo="cabs">cabs</keyword> over the coming year onto its platform.

Ola eyes 3 million daily bookings by April next year

<keyword id="6354720" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Ola">Ola</keyword>, India's largest app-based cab aggregator has stood in favour of Karnataka's new regulations that ask for governing tech-based cab hailing services. It has also accused its arch rival, the multinational cab-aggregator company <keyword id="2502101" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="Uber-India">Uber India</keyword>, of flouting all Indian norms and working in India only for its profit. 
 Ola has also said that it is the only cab aggregator that has been issued a license under the new regulations, and it’s because it satisfies all the conditions laid down by the government. On <keyword id="1042120" type="PERSON" weightage="100" keywordseo="Uber">Uber</keyword> challenging the laws, it said that the petition was "motivated and has been filed in an attempt to bypass the laws of the land by foreign companies who run their operations in this country for profit without due regard for the applicable laws." 
 
It added that Karnataka government has framed the rules with the primary object "to promote and ensure the safety of the user-riders availing the services of aggregators... The rules emphasize the need to provide safety and security to the user-riders." 
 As per Additional Advocate General <keyword id="3449750" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="100" keywordseo="A-S-Ponnanna">A.S.Ponnanna</keyword>’s submissions before Justice Aravind Kumar, the Karnataka government will not allow any aggregator to offer white-board (non-passenger) vehicles on their platforms. To this, Ola, in the affidavit that it filed, said that it does not operate any private vehicles on its platform, but also accused Uber of offering such services in the form of bike-taxies in Gurgaon and car-pooling in Bengaluru. 
 
It added that Uber has been allowing private vehicles without valid contracts and permits on its platform, under the name of car-pooling.

The office of the cab aggregator has been searched and hard disks seized on allegations over Ola illegally downloading songs and playing it on Ola Play, an in-cab infotainment system. Police also raided a few vehicles, which were using that infotainment system and have seized them. According to <keyword id="6356641" type="CITY" weightage="20" keywordseo="times-of-india">Times of India</keyword> news report, a copyright infringement case has been filed against Ola CEO <keyword id="1543567" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="Bhavish-Aggarwal">Bhavish Aggarwal</keyword> and chief technical officer <keyword id="2412264" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Ankit-Bhati">Ankit Bhati</keyword> on a complaint by <keyword id="4663939" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="lahari-recording-co">Lahari Recording Co</keyword>. "We have documented all the songs which were playing,” a police officer told media. "The notice has been issued to both the accused to show their copyrights on each song. Both accused didn't turn up on notice and we will wait for some more time. If they fail to appear, we will arrest them and produce before the court. Luthra &amp; Luthra, Ola's lawyers, said the company hadn't engaged in any wrongdoing. "It appears that the management of Ola has been dragged into this issue with a mala fide intention,, it said in a release. "We are confident that our client will stand vindicated of these allegations. Our client is sensitive to their rights as well as that of others. We have taken appropriate legal steps to protect our client's interests and the matter is now before the courts.” This incident came to light when Lahari had filed a complaint last month stating that the Ola Play feature launched by the company violated its copyrights.
