Ever since Donald Trump won the 2024 US presidential elections, bitcoin has been surging, going up over 40% in the last two weeks. Recently, the cryptocurrency soared past $97,000, having risen 8.32% in just the last 7 days, and is currently trading at $96,906.09. The overall crypto market is also buoyant, with the crypto volume jumping 10.06% over the past 24 hours to touch $198.83 billion. The markets are enthused about Bitcoin's prospects going ahead, given that Trump has hinted towards establishing a dedicated role in the White House for deliberating crypto policies. Trump has been vocally pro-crypto and had promised, during his presidential campaign, to scale back <keyword id="24085738" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="crypto-regulations" source="keywords">crypto regulations</keyword> and fire SEC chair Gary Gensler, who had initiated a crackdown on digital assets in the US. The crypto lobby in the US has been advocating for crypto-friendly SECs and access to banks. In a bid to do so, crypto companies have pumped in over $119 million to support pro-crypto candidates. Says Edul Patel, co-founder and CEO of Mudrex, "Market sentiment grew stronger from Bloomberg's report of Trump’s plan to establish a dedicated White House role for crypto policy. The anticipation of faster regulatory clarity coupled with BlackRock’s Bitcoin ETF options projecting a $176k price target by 2026 has driven BTC’s price to the $95K milestone and beyond." The ongoing rally is not restricted to just bitcoin but also extended to Solana and XRP, which gained 10.85% and 59.02%, respectively, over the last 7 days. But does this mean that good times are coming for <keyword id="19991358" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Indian-markets" source="keywords">Indian markets</keyword> as well? Apurva Sheth, Head of Market Perspectives &amp; Research, SAMCO Securities, notes that bitcoin is a proxy for risk-taking in the markets. Bitcoin moving up means the risk appetite of investors is rising. Conversely, if it falls, then investors prefer safety." Both Nifty and Sensex have lost over 5% each over the last month. FIIs (<keyword id="19932515" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="foreign-institutional-investors" source="keywords">foreign institutional investors</keyword>) have also been scrambling out of Indian markets, having withdrawn Rs 1,14,445.89 crores during October 2024 and offloading Rs 34,348.30 crore so far in November. During trade today, Nifty and Sensex remained in red, with Nifty down by 0.74% and Sensex down by 0.6%. DIIs (domestic institutional investors) have been trying to keep the market afloat in both October and November, pumping in Rs 31,636.77 crore in Indian markets in November so far. Last month, DIIs infused Rs 1,07,254.68 crore in the Indian markets. According to an NSE report, by the end of the previous quarter, FPIs holding in NSE-listed companies stood at 36.3%, despite the seventh consecutive quarterly decline. Previously, FIIs holding in listed companies had hit a record high of 39.9% in December 2021. In contrast, DIIs are increasingly making headway into the Indian markets. Active Domestic Mutual Funds (DMFs) have been increasing their investments in the NSE-listed companies. Their ownership in these companies has risen from 12.4% in December 2021 to 15.7% as of September 30, 2024. Banks and insurance companies have also expanded their market share. Their ownership in NSE-listed companies has grown from 8.8% three years ago to 11% as of pr quarter.

Reaching a new decade is always weird. Turning 30 says "adult." Hitting 50 means you're officially AARP-eligible. At 40, it's so over. You're middle-aged, and the wear and tear of life is almost certainly taking its toll, no matter how faithful you've been to your strict skincare regimen.As millennials approach the milestone, things look a bit different than they did when our baby-boomer parents reached it and declared themselves "over the hill." (I'm a millennial, so I'm using "our" here.) Forty is supposedly the new 30. The start of middle age no longer means sending your kids off to college, getting a divorce, or buying yourself a Corvette. The modern 40 means having toddlers running around, buying your first home, and, at last, catching up on retirement savings. Or looking around and wondering whether some of those life touchpoints passed you by."Things happen in midlife that you may not be prepared for. One is simply that aspirations align with reality," said Carol Graham, a senior fellow in economic studies at the Brookings Institution who has studied happiness (and unhappiness) and aging. "By the time you're 40, 45, you can't sing, and you can't play guitar; maybe it's time to give up on your aspirations of being a rock star." When you get married, you think that your marriage will last; you don't think that there's a 30% chance you'll be the one that is divorced," he said. "Not everything turns out as nicely, and this can then be just accumulating disappointment."Schwandt added that disappointment leads people to revise their expectations and have a less rosy outlook about the future, so they land in "double misery" territory. The good news is that it gets better. The bad news is that it takes time to figure that out.Millennials were born from 1981 to 1996, so everyone in the '81-to-'84 range — millions of members of the <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/restaurant-job-gains-march-millennials-dining-out-avocado-toast-2021-4">"avocado toast" generation</a> — has hit 40 or is about to in the next couple of months. The delays mean the "huh?" aspect that comes with the start of middle age has been redefined."People are getting married later and having their kids later and settling into careers later, and so they may be thinking, 'Man, when my parents were 40, they'd already been married for 15 years and had completed their family and been working in a career for 20 years, and that's just not where I am,'" said Jean Twenge, a psychologist who wrote the book "Generations: The Real Differences Between Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X, Boomers, and Silents — and What They Mean for America's Future."Delayed development isn't all bad — having kids later in life when you're more established in your career might remove some financial stress, for example. Life expectancies have increased from where they were decades ago, so 40 isn't as "middle-aged" as it used to be (or at least that's what I'd like to tell myself). Schwandt is 42 and the parent of two young children himself. He posited that delayed development might actually ease some of the midlife crisis, or at least put it off, because people simply don't have the space to sit back and reflect and wonder what might have been."There are many worries and many issues, but I don't even have time to think about those questions," he said. "Once things settle a little bit, the dust settles, then you think, 'Hey, what am I doing? Where am I?'"The upside is that as you get older, you become wiser and better able to handle life hiccups. What felt like a disaster at 20 does not feel that way at 45 — you understand that this, too, shall pass."By the time you get older, you've gone through a lot of bad experiences, and they're not always pleasant, but unless you get really ill and die or you have a really horrible shock, you realize you can get over it," Graham said.Justin Balik, 36, a climate-policy director in New Jersey, told me that one thing that freaks him out about staring down 40 is seeing his first gray hairs, an experience he finds "a little bit terrifying." Bigger picture, it's been jarring to realize there aren't really adults in the room to fix everything — behind the curtain, the Wizard of Oz is just another uncertain person trying to figure it out."When you're younger, you assume that there are people that are smarter than you and that have figured it all out and are working on something," he said. "It turns out that it's just up to all of us, collectively."Kelly, a 39-year-old fundraiser in Massachusetts, has been doing a lot of reflecting ahead of her 40th birthday. She's been journaling about it, talking to her therapist about it, and reading "All Fours," a book about a woman in her 40s. She's not so worried about her fertility — she has a son, and she's a one-and-done mom — but she's aware that her body is changing, as is, maybe, her place in society. There aren't a ton of great examples in popular culture of what her 40s are supposed to look like — the movie "This Is 40," she supposes, or "Father of the Bride," maybe. She remembers the stupid "over the hill" birthday cards her parents got when they hit the milestone."I feel like I'm on the cusp of something, and 40 is that cultural touchpoint for it," Kelly told me. She asked for her last name to be withheld to protect her privacy.Many of the anxieties about turning 40 aren't unique, but Kelly can't help but wonder if she would feel better about it had the pandemic not happened, with the associated lockdowns and workforce upheaval and inflation. It stole the end of her youth. "I didn't get to just gradually and gracefully move into midlife," she said. "There's a bit of the arrested development that kind of came from this extenuating circumstance and not this internal thing." I would be remiss not to acknowledge that the experience of 40 is different for women than it is for men. It's not just that things change physically for women as they get older — they change culturally, too. We put a premium on youth and beauty, especially for women, and as they age, many feel like they're treated as invisible. The antiaging industry targets all genders, but it's mostly women who get told how to stay young.Kelly is lucky that in her field of work, being a little older is a bonus. She has friends who work in tech — a youth-oriented industry — <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/millennials-ageism-tech-jobs-gen-z-boomers-2024-9">who are struggling to find jobs</a>. They're not making it past interview rounds they're sure they would have flown through five years ago. Maybe that's attributable to a tech-industry hiring slowdown, but they wonder if it's their age. "We're actually having a lot of those conversations about how you have to kind of remove years from your résumé and don't put your graduation date on," Kelly said.The internet, too, gives aging nowadays a different flavor. TikTok and Instagram put generational debates front and center, with Gen Zers and millennials jousting over hair parts and sock lengths and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/gen-z-was-right-to-mock-these-millennial-style-trends-2023-10">jeans widths</a>. We're also staring at our aging faces a lot more thanks to Zoom and the ubiquity of cameras in our lives. It makes it easier to compare ourselves to one another. The question isn't just whether my 40 will look like my parents' 40 — it's also whether it will look like the 40 of everyone from my high school."Now you're comparing your 40 to your quote-unquote friends' 40 online through Facebook and Instagram and Snapchat, whatever it may be," said Lindsey Anderson, an associate professor at the University of Maryland who studies aging. You're also aware they're looking at you. "I do think that there's also this increased, maybe, feeling that if you fail in some way, people — it's going to be very visible as well," she said. "Also, I mean 'fail' very much in quotations, because what failure is is really subjective."Aging means moving out of that coveted 18-to-34 demographic that culturally sets the tone on what's cool. There's also no way to sugarcoat the fact that part of aging is decline, decay, and, eventually, death.The story around 40 isn't all doom and gloom for millennials. Because life expectancy is longer and people are taking their time in getting around to "adulting," the story of the 40s is one of extended youth more than a transition into old age. People take better care of themselves these days than they did, say, 50 years ago, so while you can't turn back the clock, those years of slathering on sunscreen do pay off.It's also important to remember that 40 is a random number, Anderson said. "It's all arbitrary," she said. "People age differently."People experience the middle-age dip in happiness differently, too. Those who tend to have a more positive disposition generally have a smoother go of it. Graham, from the Brookings Institution, told me that the U-curve story might be changing — and for some reasons that are quite disturbing. It's not that midlife has gotten easier (sorry, millennials) but that <a target="_blank" href="https://www.theguardian.com/society/2024/mar/20/young-people-becoming-less-happy-than-older-generations-research-shows">young people are unhappier</a> now, too (really sorry, Gen Z)."It's much harder to even think about what is going on in terms of youth unhappiness now, but it's to the point that they don't start higher. So it's not really great. In fact, they may be happier in midlife than they are as youth," she said. "The easy explanations like social media or COVID — they exacerbated something deeper going on, and I don't think we have a full handle on it."It's not clear whether today's young people will buck the trend and become happier as they age or become even unhappier. Turning 40 could be worse for Gen Zers than it is for millennials.I'm a little too close to 40 for comfort, and I was hoping this story would make me feel better. It did, to some extent, in that at least I'm (probably) going to get there, and I have really been good about sunscreen. Millennials are turning 40 — and it's freaking them out

Mumbai: The Reserve Bank is unlikely to cut the benchmark <keyword id="20071327" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="interest-rate" source="keywords">interest rate</keyword> in its forthcoming bi-monthly monetary policy review later in the week as <keyword id="19999652" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="retail-inflation" source="keywords">retail inflation</keyword> is still a cause of concern, and there is a possibility of the Middle East crisis deteriorating further, impacting crude oil and commodity prices, say experts. Earlier this month, the government reconstituted the Reserve Bank's rate-setting panel -- <keyword id="19913109" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Monetary-Policy-Committee" source="keywords">Monetary Policy Committee</keyword> (MPC). The reconstituted panel, with three newly appointed external members, will commence its maiden meeting on Monday. MPC Chairman RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das will reveal the outcome of the three-day discussion on Wednesday (October 9). The <keyword id="19899810" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="Reserve-Bank-of-India" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Reserve Bank of India" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Reserve Bank of India">Reserve Bank of India</keyword> (RBI) has kept the repo or short-term lending rate unchanged at 6.5 per cent since February 2023, and experts think some easing could only be possible in December. The government has tasked the central bank to ensure that Consumer Price Index (CPI) based retail inflation remains at 4 per cent with a margin of 2 per cent on either side. In the current context, experts feel that the RBI may not follow the US Federal Reserve, which lowered the benchmark rates by 50 basis points, and the central banks of some developed nations, which have reduced the interest rates. "We do not expect any change in the <keyword id="20094323" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="repo-rate" source="keywords">repo rate</keyword> or stance by MPC. The reason is that inflation for September and October will be above 5 per cent, and the present low inflation is due to the base effect. Besides, core inflation is inching upwards," said Madan Sabnavis, Chief Economist, Bank of Baroda. Further, the recent Iran-Israel imbroglio can intensify, and there is uncertainty here, he said. "Hence, the status quo is the most likely option even for new members. Inflation forecast may be lowered by 10-20 bps and no change in GDP forecast likely," said Sabnavis. The central bank last hiked the repo rate to 6.5 per cent in February 2023 and since then, it has held the rate at the same level. Icra Chief Economist Aditi Nayar said that given the undershooting in the initial first quarter GDP growth relative to the MPC's forecast and the likely sizeable undershooting in the second quarter CPI inflation print as well, "we believe a stance change to neutral may be appropriate in the October 2024 policy review". This could be followed by a shallow rate-cutting cycle of 25 bps each in December 2024 and February 2025, she added. "The abundant monsoon offers some insurance for crop inflation. The impact of global political developments and geopolitical uncertainty on the growth inflation dynamics remains a risk," Nayar added. An HSBC report said three developments stand out -- softer growth numbers have trickled in recently, inflation has been falling, and the external environment has moved from rate hikes to cuts. "We believe the RBI doesn't gain from waiting any longer. We think it will change its stance from a hawkish 'withdrawal of accommodation' to 'neutral' in the upcoming 9 October policy meeting, followed by repo rate cuts of 25 bps each in the December and February meetings, taking the repo rate to 6 per cent," the report said. The RBI kept the repo rate unchanged at 6.5 per cent in its August bi-monthly review amid risks from higher food inflation. This was the ninth consecutive MPC meeting, which decided to maintain the status quo on the rate front. Pradeep Aggarwal, founder and chairman, Signature Global (India) Limited, said while the real estate industry, developer community, and homebuyers are hoping for an interest rate cut in the upcoming monetary policy review, the RBI is likely to hold on to the interest rate cuts for the tenth consecutive time. "The apex bank still seems uncomfortable with the overall retail inflation scenario, particularly food inflation. As such, it is expected to maintain the status quo. The recent interest rate cut by the US Federal Reserve has ignited similar hopes even in India, but the domestic scenario is very different," he added. SBM Bank India Head Treasury Mandar Pitale believed that the MPC has persistently advocated a restrictive policy until inflation aligns durably towards the 4 per cent target. "With the unfavourable base effect taking the next couple of CPI prints near 5 per cent plus or minus, it will pose a major challenge for MPC to start easing from the October meeting," Pitale said, adding that the MPC is also expected to deliberate upon the global factors like growth-inflation behaviour in developed economies. The government has appointed Ram Singh, Saugata Bhattacharya, and Nagesh Kumar as external members of the MPC. They have replaced Ashima Goyal, Shashanka Bhide, and Jayanth R Varma. Apart from the Governor, the other internal members are the RBI Deputy Governor in charge of monetary policy Michael Debabrata Patra and the Executive Director monetary policy department of RBI Rajiv Ranjan. In an off-cycle meeting in May 2022, the MPC raised the policy rate by 40 basis points and it was followed by rate hikes of varying sizes, in the subsequent meetings till February 2023. The repo rate was raised by 250 basis points cumulatively between May 2022 and February 2023.

Status-quo on interest rate likely, say experts ahead of RBI's policy review

The <keyword id="19899810" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Reserve-Bank-of-India" source="keywords" meta.keywordsubtype="org" meta.entityname="Reserve Bank of India" meta.hostid="261" meta.entityid="Reserve Bank of India">Reserve Bank of India</keyword> announced the decision of the newly formed six-member MPC (<keyword id="19913109" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Monetary-Policy-Committee" source="keywords">Monetary Policy Committee</keyword>) today, following the conclusion of the three-day meeting, which began on October 7, 2024. Treading along expected lines, RBI rate-setting panel left the repo rate unchanged at 6.5% for the 10th consecutive time, in its 51st meeting today. The decision was made by a majority, with 5 out of 6 members voting for leaving the rate unchanged. This is the fourth bi-monthly monetary policy review for FY25, and the first since three external members were appointed to the panel earlier this month. The tenure of the previous three members had come to an end on October 4, 2024. While the outgoing members include Ashima Goyal (emeritus professor, Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research), Shashanka Bhide (honorary senior advisor, National Council of Applied Economic Research); and Jayanth R. Varma(professor, Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad), the income members are Ram Singh (Director, Delhi School of Economics), Saugata Bhattacharya, an economist; and Nagesh Kumar (Director and chief executive, Institute for Studies in Industrial Development). <h2>Wait and Watch </h2>RBI also changed its policy stance to neutral, while remaining committed to growth and bringing down inflation to its target of 4%. This means that at present, the bank is not inclined to either increase or decrease the interest rates, but will take a call depending on macroeconomic conditions and prevailing factors. "Taking all these factors into consideration, the real GDP growth for 2024-25 is projected at 7.2%, with Q2 at 7%, Q3 at 7.4% and Q4 at 7.4%", he said. As for inflation, Das highlighted that headline inflation had softened significantly in July and August and even food inflation experienced a certain degree of correction during these two months. Keeping this in mind, CPI inflation for 2024-25 i.e. current year is projected at 4.5%, with Q2 at 4.1%, Q3 at 4.8% and Q4 at 4.2%. CPI for first quarter of next financial year i.e. 2025-26 is estimated at 4.3%. "It's with a lot of effort that inflation horse has been brought to the stable, i.e. closer to the target and within the tolerance span, compared to its place or heightened levels two years ago. We have to be very careful about opening the gate, as the horse may simply hold again. We must keep the horse in tight leash, so that we do not lose control", Das added. Most economists had anticipated a change in the central bank's current policy stance of 'withdrawal of accommodation'. This policy stand indicates that any interest rate cuts are presently off the table. However, given the ongoing geopolitical crisis and Fed's jumbo rate cut by 50-basis points last month, RBI may bring about a cut in interest rates, sooner than later. However, since food inflation remains high at 5.42% as of July 2024, experts had also estimated that now might not have been a good time for RBI to bring down interest rates. Moreover, PMI (purchase managers index) indices, which help in gauging the health of manufacturing and service sectors in the country, presently stand at a multi-month low, and even the core sector output is witnessing a contraction after 42 straight months. As Suman Chowdhury, Executive Director &amp; Chief Economist, Acuité Ratings &amp; Research had highlighted, the current circumstances are not really conducive for RBI to opt for any affirmation action towards an easier monetary policy. "While the fear of the inflation “elephant” may have subsided with the CPI headline print well within 4.0% over the last two months and a favorable monsoon, the concerns around the stability of food inflation still linger among policy makers. The RBI may wait till December 2024 or February 2025 to make a rat cut, he continued. <h2>Housing sector rejoices</h2>From the point of view of homebuyers, the relatively affordable home loan interest rate regime will continue at a critical time for the Indian housing market - the festive season - amid rising housing prices and tapered sales. Q3 2024 saw average housing prices rise by a cumulative 23% in the top 7 cities even as average prices in these markets collectively rose to approximately Rs 8,390 per sq. ft. by Q3 2024-end, from Rs 6,800 per sq. ft. in Q3 2023. "The unchanged home loan rates are much-needed demand support in the ongoing festive quarter. We are expecting faster sales momentum in Q4 2024 when compared to the preceding quarter. This year's festive quarter may see similar demand to that seen in this period a year ago, if not higher. Over 1.27 lakh units were sold across the top 7 cities back in Q4 2023. Unchanged interest rates will play and important role in achieving and maintaining this momentum", says Anuj Puri, Chairman - ANAROCK Group

Courts do," Roberts said.He also argued that the decision to overturn Chevron doesn't call into question prior cases that relied on it. He referred to a recent poll that found 40% of those who worked at Nvidia had a net worth between $1 million and $20 million, while 37% had a net worth of over $20 million.Blain said that leaves less than a third of Nvidia's staff with "any real daily financial pressure upon them." "Do you think that poor quarter of Nvidia peons are really going to bust their guts for guys who are already rich and highly motivated to protect their wealth and position? Do they think Nvidia will rise a further 700%? Will they be happy remaining exceedingly poor relative to their peers and bosses? Or is it more likely the enormous wealth in the office means the poorer but still highly motivated staff are going to figure their wealth chances will be better elsewhere?" Last Thursday, the tech-heavy NASDAQ shed 2% as the Russell rose 3.6%."We have small caps even more oversold and valuations — whether you look at medium P/E, which is now at 10 times 2025 earnings — even lower," Fundstrat's Tom Lee told <a target="_blank" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyHto5WWQ0k">CNBC</a>.
