The <keyword id="6356740" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="RAILWAY">Railway</keyword>s said that around 2.4 crore candidtates have applied for 1.4 lakh vacancies in Indian Railways for various categories of staff to be hired by the Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs). A statement issued by <keyword id="9255929" type="COMPANY" weightage="20" keywordseo="the-ministry-of-railways">the Ministry of Railways</keyword> said, "It may be noted that RRBs had issued three centralised employment notifications for NTPC categories, isolated and ministerial categories and Level-1 categories for a total of about 1.4 lakh vacancies for various categories of staff." "Against these employment notifications, more than 2.4 crore candidates have applied," it said, adding that the national transporter has made requisite preparations for smooth conduct of computer based tests (CBTs) which is scheduled from December 15 onwards. It said that the details of schedule of the CBTs will be uploaded on the websites of RRBs in due course. It said that the railways had notified three types of vacancies -- 35,208 for NTPC (non-technical popular categories like guards, office clerks, commercial clerks etc.), 1,663 for Isolated and Ministerial categories (steno and teaches etc.) and 1,03,769 for Level-1 vacancies (track maintainers, pointsman etc). This marks a substantial rise compared to the summer of 2023, where a total of 6,369 trips were offered. The additional trains have been planned to connect key destinations across the country, ensuring seamless travel on major <keyword id="21357069" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="railway-routes" source="keywords">railway routes</keyword>. All <keyword id="20617985" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Zonal-Railways" source="keywords">zonal railways</keyword> spread across India have geared up to operate these additional trips, catering to the summer <keyword id="21357806" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="travel-rush" source="keywords">travel rush</keyword> from states like Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Odisha, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi. Planning and running of additional trains is a continuous process for which inputs are taken from all the communication channels 24x 7 like media reports, Social media platforms, Railway Integrated helpline number 139, apart from details of waitlist passengers in PRS system, to assess demand of trains on a particular route. Based on this requirement, number of trains and number of trips are augmented. Neither the number of trains nor the number of trips run by additional train(s) is static for the entire season. During the summer season, Zonal Railways have been instructed to ensure availability of drinking water at Railway stations. Elaborate crowd control arrangements are made at all major and important railway stations. <keyword id="49492" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="rpf" source="Orion">RPF</keyword> personnel have been deputed at originating stations to ensure Queue system for entry in General Class coaches. Skilled RPF staffs are deployed in CCTV Control Room to keep a close watch on the crowded areas and render real time assistance to passengers. Government Railway Police (GRP) &amp; Railway Protection Force (RPF) staffs are deployed at foot-over bridges to regulate crowd smoothly in order to avoid stampede like situation during the heavy rush period. NAGPUR: Electricity produced is electricity saved for Nagpur division of Central Railway! After reducing its consumption, the division is now regenerating power to reduce its bills sizably. 
 "Due to austerity measures while driving, and technical innovation with the use of new version of three-phase electric locomotives, Central Railway managed to regenerate over two crore units and saved Rs 16 crore during 2013-2014," said <keyword id="6605234" type="POSITION" weightage="60" keywordseo="Divisional-railway-manager">divisional railway manager</keyword> (DRM) OP Singh. While mail/express trains regenerated 18-20% power, freight trains did 17-18%, he added. 
 
The two crore units saved by the Nagpur Central Railway can light up over 20,000 homes if one household's consumption is considered 100 unit power. Specifically, the railways generate electricity at a couple of substations, where there are slopes on the tracks and three-phase locos consume no power and start generating it. The railways saved 2% electricity (10 lakh units) at Katol substation and 1.5% (6.50 lakh units) at Pandhurna. 
 "The three-phase locos have been on the tracks for the past three years but railways learnt about the power regeneration by them only in June last, when it launched <keyword id="6360192" type="ORGANIZATION" weightage="40" keywordseo="Energy-conservation">energy conservation</keyword> drive. Energy conservation year was observed in true sense by the division last year, reaping dividends," said Namdeo Rabade, senior divisional electric engineer (SrDEE) for traction distribution (TRD). 
 
After launching stringent power saving measures, energy consumption during 2013-14 was reduced by 33.358 million units, even though gross tonne kilometre (GTKM) increased by 2.78% (1 tonne load for 1km equals to 1GTKM). 
 Similarly, Rabade said the average specific energy consumption (SEC) reduced from 7.98% in 2012-13 to 7.42% in 2013-14. Cumulative <keyword id="25450" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="40" keywordseo="savings">savings</keyword> of nearly Rs 7.74 crore was achieved, despite the fact that power tariff increased by 4.24%. Otherwise, Central Railway could have saved Rs 24.83 crore. 
 
Though the units regenerated have not been physically put to use for alternative purposes, it will surely save money towards power bills. Last year, the Nagpur Central Railway paid Rs 421 crore towards 543 million units.
