But its valuation raised many eyebrows! Now that a month and a half has gone by since its listing, time is apt to examine if this gamble paid off. Will <keyword id="93460" type="General" weightage="100" keywordseo="hyundai-india" source="Orion">Hyundai India</keyword> justify its high valuation? Or does the listing highlight broader questions about the overheated valuation dynamics of Indian markets? A record-breaking <keyword id="19898327" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="ipo" source="keywords">IPO</keyword> but questions remain Hyundai Motor India’s mega Initial Public Offering (IPO), launched in October 2024, broke records by raising ₹27,870 crore, making it India’s largest-ever IPO. The offer was oversubscribed by 2.37 times, highlighting robust demand. But many investors remained sceptical: was this IPO an honest attempt to expand Hyundai’s footprint in India or was it trying to offer a way to cashout for existing investors and promoters? Or perhaps, is it an attempt by the Korean chaebol — a large family-owned business conglomerate — to break free from the aforementioned “Korean Discount”? When shares listed on October 22, these concerns seemingly weighed on the minds of most investors and the stock promptly dipped 5% below the issue price on the day. A tepid grey market performance had already foreshadowed this muted debut in the Indian markets. Now, after almost 35 trading sessions on Indian market, the stock remains almost exactly at price it listed on October 22 at Rs 1820—no gain, no loss. <h3>The gamble of hyper-valuation</h3>Much of this hesitation stemmed from Hyundai’s valuation. On listing, Hyundai was valued at $18 billion, positioning it as one of India’s most valuable automotive companies. However, such high valuations often temper investor enthusiasm, resulting in more cautious short-term outcomes. Tackling the 'Korean Discount': A deep dive into curious case of Hyundai Motor India's market listing

But macro factors like inflation are not the only reason for their troubles. Top listed players seem to be losing premium customers to global peers and digital-first brands, apart from mass customers to regional and smaller brands. At the lower end of the market – small and regional players emerged after commodity prices dropped last year. These brands offered attractive prices to downgrading and downtrading customers. Many customers, especially in hand wash, body wash, shampoos, floor cleaners, and cooking oils, have been downtrading – shifting to brands that offer better prices. “It appears that listed FMCG companies have also underperformed as competitors from both mass and premium end are outperforming. At the mass end, the resurgence of competition from price-warriors post a correction in input cost prices has led to market share losses,” says a report by ICICI Securities. Due to a K-shaped recovery, the premium categories are growing at a much faster clip than others. Here too, global unlisted companies, new-age and emerging brands are growing much faster — squeezing the listed players from both ends. “In premium categories, unlisted MNCs peers having higher salience of premium positioned portfolio and digital-first brands (largely in beauty and personal care categories) are taking away market shares from listed peers at the premium end,” adds ICICI Securities. Diverse consumer tastes, and high-decibel campaigns by new-age brands are starting to have an effect. Materially ‘low’ growth in HPC Listed players’ revenue growth is materially lower than unlisted consumer staples companies, the report says. As of FY23, the average revenue growth of listed companies like — ITC, HUL, Britannia, Nestle, <keyword id="19924230" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="tata-consumer" source="keywords" topicspecial.url="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/tata-consumer-products-ltd/stocks/companyid-12929.cms">Tata Consumer</keyword>, Marico, <keyword id="20075276" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="dabur" source="keywords" topicspecial.url="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/dabur-india-ltd/stocks/companyid-11796.cms">Dabur</keyword> etc — was 11%. But the same for unlisted peers like — Kellogg’s, Hershey's, L’Oreal, P&amp;G, and <keyword id="19985277" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="parle" source="keywords">Parle</keyword> — was around 18%. The gap in growth between listed and unlisted peers is much wider in home and personal care. While listed companies’ revenue growth is at 8% for HPC, unlisted companies lost almost thrice as fast – at 22%. “Higher competitive pressure at both mass and premium end has led to underperformance of listed home and personal care, in our opinion,” says ICICI Securities. In the food and beverage category, however, listed companies performed better. “We believe outperformance of listed F&amp;B companies is distribution driven by higher focus on increasing either direct reach or improving the line selling by Nestle, Britannia, Mrs. Bector’s,” the report says. In the last few quarters, FMCG players have been correcting their prices and waging a war against regional brands. Many analysts believe that top-listed peers are expected to win the war against their competitors, even as price-led growth has been slowing down. “We note growth trajectory for listed peers is likely to improve gradually given the competition from price-warriors is likely to reduce with most companies passing the input cost price benefit to consumers. Our channel checks suggest growth of unlisted consumer staples companies has also decelerated in the last couple of quarters,” says ICICI.

Brar said the booking momentum in September was good, which is a strong indication for October. "And this time, all festivals are in October..we expect about 5-10 per cent sales growth during the period as compared to last year," he added. At the same time, the research is going on. The aluminium, ironic oil, and different types of chemistry. The government is working on establishing a testing agency for better research and testing of vehicle manufacturing. CIIT Training Institute will be established in Pune with a sanctioned cost of Rs 450 crore. "Regarding the Testing Agency for Better Research and Development and Development world-class Testing Agency in CIIT Pune we have decided to start a new venture there with international standards and having all types of the facility which are available in the world and my department has sanctioned 450 Cor or that already DPR is in process and next three months we will try to start this project and that is to be very important for the industry where we will get maximum service and maximum to all the industry," he said. The Union Minister requested the automobile industry to support and cooperate with the government for India's scrappage policy. Gadkari asked the industry to promote and come up with better incentives for the scrappage of old vehicles. The vehicle manufacturers of the USA and Europe have increased their sales by 9 to 12 per cent by promoting scrappage policy. He also thanked the industry for the decision to provide a 3 percent discount for vehicle owners for scrapping their vehicles, adding that the cost of components can be reduced by 20-40 per cent due to the move. Gadkari urged the industry to establish their own scrappage centres. In his remarks, Gadkari said, "The automobile industry plays a pivotal role in realizing the Prime Minister's vision of transforming India into a 5 trillion-dollar economy and elevating it to the third largest economy globally. Our ambition is to extend it as the number one auto manufacturing industry worldwide. As we target a carbon-neutral status by 2070, innovation and sustainable practices in the auto sector are crucial." India will soon be in a position to export Lithium-ion batteries: Nitin Gadkari

New Delhi, <keyword id="7636498" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="Tata-Consumer-Products" source="Orion">Tata Consumer Products</keyword> Ltd (TCPL) on Wednesday reported a 29.67 per cent rise in consolidated net profit to Rs 358.57 crore in the first quarter ended June 30 on the back of a strong growth in its domestic business. The company had posted a net profit of Rs 276.51 crore in the April-June quarter a year ago, TCPL, earlier known as Tata Global Beverages Ltd, said in a BSE filing. Its revenue from operations was up 12.45 per cent to Rs 3,741.21 crore during the quarter under review as against Rs 3,326.83 crore in the corresponding period of the preceding fiscal. "Revenue from operations increased by 12 per cent as compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year, mainly driven by strong growth of 16 per cent in India business, 3 per cent in international business and 5 per cent in non-branded business," TCPL said in an earnings statement. The "profit before exceptional items and tax at Rs 495 crore is higher by 23 per cent reflecting strong growth in the India branded business and improved performance in international and non-branded business," it said. Total expenses of the Tata Group FMCG arm stood at Rs 3,304.36 crore, up 11.68 per cent in the first quarter of the current fiscal compared to the year-ago period. TCPL's total income in the June quarter was at Rs 3,798.96 crore, up 12.99 per cent. In the June quarter, TCPL's overall branded business was up 13.11 per cent to Rs 3,372.75 crore. It was at Rs 2,981.82 crore in the corresponding quarter last fiscal. TCPL's branded businesses include tea, coffee, water and other various value-added business. Its revenue from the Indian market in the branded business was at Rs 2,477.93 crore, up 15.51 per cent. In the coffee segment, it continued the strong performance with a revenue growth of 21 per cent in the domestic market. "For the quarter, the India foods business delivered 24 per cent revenue growth and 6 per cent volume growth," the company said. Revenue from its non-branded business, which includes plantation and extraction business for tea and coffee, was at Rs 377.05 crore, up 7.2 per cent in the June quarter. Tata Starbucks -- a 50:50 joint venture between Tata Consumer Products Ltd and Starbucks Corporation -- also recorded "strong revenue growth" of 21 per cent in the June quarter. TCPL Managing Director &amp; CEO Sunil D'Souza said that during the June quarter, it saw positive results from the interventions put in place for the branded tea business, which grew volumes for the second consecutive quarter. "We continue to maintain volume growth momentum in Salt, despite the pricing actions taken earlier to manage inflation," he added. The company continued to accelerate innovation across categories with a number of new launches to expand our total addressable market. "Our growth businesses (Tata Sampann, Tata Soulfull and NourishCo ) continued their strong growth trajectory, they grew by 58 per cent this quarter and accounted for 20 per cent of the India branded business. Tata Starbucks continued to deliver a strong performance along with store expansion," he said. Shares of Tata Consumer Products Ltd on Wednesday settled at Rs 874.10 on BSE, up 0.67 per cent from the previous close.
