The authorities have advised the public to not visit beaches in Puducherry as well as in Tamil Nadu's Chennai, including Marina Beach, Pattinapakkam and Edward Elliot Beach. Fishermen are not venturing into the sea. Since last night, we have closed all beaches. We have deployed nearly 300 personnel across all the beaches of Puducherry and we are coordinating with the NDRF also," the SSP said. The coastal areas of Puducherry witnessed rough sea and gusty winds on Saturday morning due to the impact of the cyclone. Puducherry received moderate rain, as per IMD, in the morning today but the rough sea was seen more than usual.

By Lalit K Jha Washington, May 7 () Seven non-scheduled special flights will operate from Saturday to fly back Indian nationals stranded in the US amidst the international travel lockdown over the coronavirus pandemic, the Indian embassy here said.A computerised draw of lots would identify the names of the Indian nationals for the special seven flights back home, due to the limited number of seats available.On Monday, the Indian government announced plans to begin a phased repatriation of its citizens stranded abroad from May 7. Air India will operate 64 flights from May 7 to May 13 to bring back around 15,000 Indian nationals stranded abroad amid the COVID-19-induced lockdown, India's Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Tuesday.India is conducting its biggest ever repatriation exercise named Vande Bharat Mission-sans social distancing and COVID-19 tests to bring back stranded Indians from abroad.Beginning May 9, Air India has scheduled seven non-scheduled commercial flights from the US to India facilitating return of Indian nationals, who could not travel due to COVID-19 related international travel restrictions, the embassy here said in a latest advisory issued on Wednesday night."Since the number of seats on the flights would be limited, passengers with the compelling cases such as those facing medical emergencies or requiring return due to bereavement in the family, students, pregnant women, elderly or those facing expiry of visas will be given priority, and identified through an electronic random selection method," the embassy said.The first of the series of seven flights will fly from San Francisco to Mumbai and Hyderabad on May 9 and the second flight from the city will fly to New Delhi and Bengaluru on May 13, the Indian embassy here said in a media release.Tickets for these flights range from USD 1362 (over Rs 1 lakh) for economy class to USD 3722 (over Rs 2 lakh) for business and USD 5612 (over Rs 4 lakh) for the First-Class passengers. The embassy cautioned that the one-way fares mentioned are provided by Air India; and subject to change. Additional fare may be charged for domestic sectors.Air India has scheduled two flights from Newark, in New Jersey on May 10 (to Mumbai and Ahmedabad) and May 14 (to Delhi and Hyderabad). Similarly, two flights have been scheduled from Chicago on May 11 (to Mumbai and Chennai) and May 15 (Delhi and Hyderabad). The solo flight from Washington DC on May 12 will fly to Delhi and Hyderabad.According to the media advisory, all passengers will be required to undergo medical screening before boarding the flight and only asymptomatic passengers will be allowed to travel. All passengers on arrival in India will be medically screened and would have to download and register on Aarogya Setu app.Further, all passengers will need to undergo a 14-day mandatory quarantine on arrival in India in institutional quarantine facilities on payment basis as per the protocols framed by Government of India. New Delhi, June 9 () Healthcare major Apollo Hospitals Enterprise on Tuesday said the COVID-19 pandemic has had a material impact on the company's healthcare services business operations, though its standalone pharmacy business continued to show growth momentum. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation, the government had announced a country wide lockdown, involving restrictions on international and domestic travel, while also issuing an advisory on postponing elective surgeries and undergoing preventive health checks, Apollo Hospitals said in a filing to the BSE. The pandemic has led to a material impact on the healthcare industry in general and on company's healthcare services business operations due to severe travel related restrictions impacting both employee movements and patient flows to the hospitals, it added. Outpatient footfalls were also impacted apart from incidence of postponement of elective procedures. Both factors in turn have led to a substantial reduction in the inpatient case loads, the filing said. The current embargo on international travel has also impacted patient flows to hospital units located in metro locations such as Chennai, Hyderabad, New Delhi and Ahmedabad, it added. The company pointed out that none of its operations were closed during this phase. It stated that, "Our stand alone pharmacy segmental revenues and business performance were not impacted during the lockdown, and continue to show growth momentum." However, "as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic situation, the overall patient volumes across our hospitals network has reduced by half, thereby adversely impacting healthcare segmental revenues while fixed costs required for maintaining business continuity continued to be incurred," the filing said. The company has embarked on a host of cost optimisation measures to alleviate the situation, it added. "However, we do not anticipate any issues at all related to the company's ability to undertake borrowings or service debt given its comfortable liquidity position and its ability to access debt at competitive levels, even in the current situation," Apollo Hospitals said. The company has undrawn credit lines of Rs 400 crore and also has very strong relationships with large bankers in India, including development finance institutions (DFIs) who have expressed interest to support through debt -- short and long tenured, should the company need it, it added. "Given the current huge demand supply imbalance that persists with regard to healthcare infrastructure within the country, Apollo Hospitals as the largest private health care services provider with its portfolio of more than 10,000 hospital beds is well positioned to continue to address the demand for high quality tertiary care across the country over the long term," it said. The company does not anticipate any risks related to recoverability of receivables or supply chain related bottlenecks. Further, there has been no impact on internal financial controls in the current situation, it added. On the future impact of the pandemic on the company's operations, Apollo Hospitals said it is still evaluating the full impact of the current situation on its business and will continuously calibrate responses to the COVID-19 situation as it evolves. "We would like to however state that patient case loads and occupancies across our hospitals network have witnessed improvements post easing of lockdown related restrictions," it added. By yoshita singh New York, May 10 () Some of the Indian nationals stranded in the US due to COVID-19 related international travel restrictions will fly back home on Sunday on a non-scheduled commercial flight from New Jersey to Mumbai and Ahmedabad, even as authorities said another five flights have been arranged to repatriate others still stuck in the country. Beginning May 9, Air India has scheduled seven non-scheduled commercial flights from the US to India facilitating the return of Indian nationals, who could not travel due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Indian Embassy in Washington had said in its advisory on Wednesday night. The first flight took off from San Francisco on Saturday to Mumbai and Hyderabad. The Air India flight from Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey will fly on Sunday, taking back Indian nationals to Mumbai and Ahmedabad under India's biggest ever repatriation exercise named 'Vande Bharat Mission'. Another flight from Newark will fly on May 14 to Delhi and Hyderabad. All passengers will be required to undergo medical screening before boarding the flight and only asymptomatic passengers will be allowed to travel. All passengers on arrival in India will be medically screened and would have to download and register the Aarogya Setu app. Further, all passengers will need to undergo a 14-day mandatory quarantine on arrival in India in institutional facilities on payment basis as per the protocols framed by Government of India. Highly placed sources in the Indian Consulate in New York said that it "has been a relentless and non-stop work" to coordinate the repatriation exercise and authorities "are going out of their way to make sure not even one seat on the flight goes vacant" since a large number of Indians are stranded in the US due to various reasons and they are "desperate" to go home. Priority is being given to stranded passengers, terminally-ill patients, passengers with medical concerns and students. The sources said that while flights from New Jersey were only supposed to take passengers from states that fall under the jurisdiction of the Consulate in New York, special arrangements have been made to ferry four terminally-ill patients from Houston. Apart from the two flights from New Jersey, two flights have been scheduled from Chicago on May 11 (to Mumbai and Chennai) and May 15 (Delhi and Hyderabad). The solo flight from Washington DC on May 12 will fly to Delhi and Hyderabad. Sources said that some people who had initially registered to return to India on the flights later balked and changed their plans as they did not want to undergo the two-week mandatory quarantine on arrival in India. Sources said the repatriation exercise could be expanded to countries where there is high demand. Under the 'Vande Bharat' Mission, India has already repatriated its citizens from the Gulf and the UK. Nearly 15,000 Indians are expected to return on special Air India flights from 12 countries in the coming days. The sources said efforts were being made to reach out to the Indians stranded in the US. The Indian Consulate here has been assisting several students by helping them with accommodation and essential services after their university and college dormitories closed down. Indian Consulate sources said they were facing a number of challenges in the repatriation exercise. COVID-19: Air India schedules 7 commercial flights to repatriate nationals from the US

New Delhi, Mar 19 () Japanese automakers Honda Cars and Toyota Kirloskar Motor on Thursday said they have set up high-powered teams within their respective organisations to continuously monitor the situation and come with countermeasures in the wake of spread of the coronavirus pandemic in the country. The companies said they are already taking a lot of preventive steps, including putting in place restrictions on travel of their executives to affected regions, in order to reduce the risk of the contagious viral infection. "The risk management committee with top management members is monitoring the situation on a daily basis for further action points," a Honda Cars India Ltd (HCIL) spokesperson told when asked about the measures being put in place by the company. Similarly, Toyota Kirloskar Motor Senior Vice-President (Sales and Service) Naveen Soni said a high-powered team has been created for monitoring the developments and for initiating immediate appropriate countermeasures as required. Elaborating on other steps taken at Honda, the spokesperson said that besides restrictions on any kind of travel, the company has also implemented multiple preventive measures in its all office and manufacturing premises, including rigorous fumigation, temperature screening of all members coming to its plants and offices, use of sanitizers at all locations, and fresh air circulation through aircons. "Our focus is to eliminate multiple common touch points. For example, canteen food counters are restricted to one server per dish to prevent multiple contact of serving dishes, replacement of biometric system to self-declaration for attendance and canteen, and open doors at all times to prevent contact with door knobs," the spokesperson added. All events scheduled in the next two weeks have been cancelled and self-declaration, including for family members, for their health and travel is being tracked, the spokesperson said. Besides, all company dealerships in the country have been asked to implement mandatory protocol while interacting with customers including sanitising of display and test drive cars after every use especially for high-contact points such as steering wheel, door handles and gear knobs, the spokesperson said. Besides, all dealership staff is checked for thermal screening at the time of reporting to work. Soni said safety, health and security of the employees and stakeholders are of paramount importance to the company. "We are following all the applicable laws and regulations of the countries in which we operate, and are taking adequate internal precautions based on our own guidelines and standards of care," he said. In order to keep the customers safe, the company is developing a 360-degree vehicle display on its website, helping them take a virtual tour of each vehicle and get a better understanding to make an informed purchase decision, Soni said. "For employees, we have also released a strict advisory to minimise domestic and restrict international travel to severely affected regions," he added. Already, US auto major Ford has asked its 10,000 employees in India, except those in business-critical roles, to work from home, a step which has also been taken up by Swedish luxury car maker Volvo. Similarly, auto maker FCA India has permitted over 50 per cent of its staff in Mumbai and Pune to work from home at least until March 31. The work from home alternative for the engineering workforce in Chennai is under consideration and not in play as yet, it added. New Delhi, Mar 15 () Amid the gloom surrounding coronavirus pandemic, South Korean auto major Hyundai sees a silver lining for the slowdown-hit auto industry in India as consumers seek isolated mode of transportation at a time when it is also preparing to ramp up online sales of vehicles, according to a senior company official. Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL), the company's wholly-owned arm, plans a nationwide launch of its 'click to buy' programme, which was introduced as a pilot project for the National Capital Region at Auto Expo last month, enabling consumers to avoid visiting crowded dealerships. The company has also taken many internal measures, including daily temperature checking of employees and visitors at its Chennai plant and office, putting a ban on foreign travels for executives while restricting domestic travel to only extremely important business trips. The spread of coronavirus has heavily impacted travel, tourism and other manufacturing sectors, adding to the already low customer sentiment due to uncertainty of economic downturn, according to Managing Director and CEO S S Kim. "At the same time, there might be some positive, green area from automotive manufacturers' perspective. Everybody wants to have a safe place, some kind of social isolation. Home might be the first place and car might be the second place for that purpose," he told . Kim further said, "What we heard from our colleagues is that people who didn't want to buy cars till recently, they have changed their mind because they want to have their own isolated space even on the road." When asked how the company is looking to address concerns of those customers who do not wish to visit crowded showrooms to buy cars, he said Hyundai has already issued advisories to its dealers over safety hygiene, including temperature checking, sanitisation and keeping physical distance of 5 metres to ensure its consumers feel secure. At the same time, he said Hyundai is also revving up its digital sales channel 'click to buy' that will take care of the entire process of buying a car -- from research to test drive to booking, finance, insurance and delivery, with a designated offline sales consultant assisting consumers at every step of the way of purchase. "I think considering the coronavirus situation this might be a great alternative solution to the customers who want to buy a car but do not want to go to any crowded area. So how to handle the situation? We are ready for the situation," Kim said. When asked how soon it will be ready, he said, "It is being pilot tested here in Delhi area and it will be nationally introduced in the coming few weeks period. We are preparing something, but considering the coronavirus situation we think we should hurry up implementing those plans." On steps taken by the company for prevention from the pandemic, Kim said HMIL has implemented "very stringent measures", including mandatory temperature checking for everyone at entry gates of its factory and offices, sending daily body temperature report of each employee to HR head who would assess and discuss with any employee in case of fluctuations from normal and decide whether he should continue working or go back home. Kim said no international trip is being allowed at present and domestic travel has been restricted to only cases for "some compelling reasons". In terms of impact on component supplies due to coronavirus, he said that at the company level it has not had such a problem. However, some tier-I component suppliers which have supply chains spread across countries like China, Vietnam or Thailand have some impact, but that hasn't affected the company's production.
