Throughout his character arc in the books and the films, he was careful about what he revealed about himself, and to whom.</p><p>Before using her platform <a href="https://www.insider.com/jk-rowlings-transphobia-devastated-trans-harry-potter-fans-2020-6">to spread transphobic messages</a>, the series' <a href="https://www.insider.com/jk-rowling-transgender-comments-show-reality-wizarding-world-harry-potter-2020-6">controversial author, JK Rowling,</a> was known to use Twitter, interviews, and the official Wizarding World website to expand the "Harry Potter" canon beyond the seven books.</p><p>With the <a href="https://www.insider.com/photos-harry-potter-movie-cast-then-and-now">original series</a>, the "Fantastic Beasts" films, and this additional information in mind, read on for some facts about Albus Dumbledore that even die-hard fans may have missed or forgotten.</p><h2><strong>Aberforth may not be his only brother</strong></h2><div type="image" title="aberforth" height="1190" width="1586" msid="78478703" hostid="261"></div><p>Albus's brother Aberforth makes a brief appearance in "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" and gets formally introduced in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows."</p><p>He was instrumental in helping Harry, Ron, and Hermione sneak into Hogwarts for the series' final battle.</p><p>But it may come as a shock that there might be another mysterious Dumbledore brother who wasn't mentioned in the original series.</p><p>During the climax of the 2018 film <a href="https://www.insider.com/harry-potter-fantastic-beasts-movies-ranked-2018-12">"Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald,"</a> Gellert Grindelwald tells the orphan Credence Barebone that his real name is Aurelius Dumbledore and he's a long-lost brother of Albus, Aberforth, and Ariana.</p><p>The reveal comes at the end of the film and will most likely be expanded upon in subsequent sequels, but for now it's hard to determine whether Grindelwald was telling the truth or manipulating both Credence and the audience.</p><h2><strong>Albus had a romantic relationship with Gellert Grindelwald</strong></h2><p><a href="https://ew.com/movies/2007/10/20/jk-rowling-outs-dumbledore-gay/">According to Entertainment Weekly</a>, at a press event in 2007, not long after the "Deathly Hallows" book was released, Rowling said she "always saw Dumbledore as gay."</p><p>This was the first glimpse she gave fans into any sort of LGBTQ representation in the Wizarding World.</p><p>More recently, during a feature, originally unearthed by Radio Times, on the "Crimes of Grindelwald" Blu-ray disc, <a href="https://www.vulture.com/2019/03/j-k-rowling-dumbledore-grindelwald-had-sexual-love-affair.html">Rowling expanded</a> on their relationship, calling it "intense," "passionate," and "sexual."</p><p>This news was met with <a href="https://www.insider.com/jk-rowling-dumbledore-and-grindelwald-had-sexual-relationship-2019-3">backlash from fans</a>, who felt the author should have more clearly drawn out this relationship. <a href="https://www.insider.com/fantastic-beasts-jk-rowling-dumbledore-lgbt-backlash-2018-2">LGBTQ communities</a> specifically took issue with the fact that this part of Dumbledore's identity was left out of the "Fantastic Beasts" movies even after Rowling revealed he was gay.</p><h2><strong>Before becoming headmaster, Dumbledore taught Transfiguration, but he may have also instructed another subject</strong></h2><p><strong></strong></p><div type="image" title="dumbledore chamber of secrets flashback" height="1570" width="2093" msid="78478705" hostid="261"></div><p>Years before becoming Hogwarts' headmaster, Dumbledore was a professor at the school. According to the "Harry Potter" book series, he taught Transfiguration and was a regular writer for the magazine Transfiguration Today.</p><p>There is ample evidence that he's skilled at the craft; for example, he was able to make statues come to life and turn Nagini into a rope during the final battle in "Order of the Phoenix."</p><p>In 2018, Jude Law, who plays young Dumbledore in the "Fantastic Beasts" films, <a href="https://ew.com/movies/2018/07/17/jude-law-dumbledore-interview/">told Entertainment Weekly</a> that the professor "doesn't teach Transfiguration" at that point in the series.</p><p>After the release of "The Crimes of Grindelwald," many fans and <a href="https://ew.com/movies/2018/07/12/young-newt-fantastic-beasts-the-crimes-grindelwald/">media outlets</a> speculated that Dumbledore taught Defense Against the Dark Arts at Hogwarts in that storyline.</p><h2><strong>He received an Order of Merlin award for defeating Grindelwald</strong></h2><p>The Order of Merlin award is given to wizards who have distinguished themselves with acts of bravery, high levels of achievement, or contributions to their fields.</p><p>Dumbledore received the highest version of the award — Order of Merlin, First Class — for dueling and defeating Gellert Grindelwald in 1945.</p><p>This event changed the course of Wizarding history and prevented Grindelwald from achieving even more power and, most likely, taking more lives.</p><h2><strong>Dumbledore seems to have lied to Harry about what he saw in the Mirror of Erised</strong></h2><p><strong></strong></p><div type="image" title="blood pact dumbledore and grindelwald" height="900" width="1200" msid="78478707" hostid="261"></div><p>When Harry views his innermost desires reflected in the Mirror of Erised as a first-year at Hogwarts, he sees himself surrounded by family members — most notably his mother and his father, who <a href="https://www.insider.com/explanation-of-major-deaths-in-the-harry-potter-series-ranking">died when he was a baby</a>.</p><p>In the scene, he asks Dumbledore what he sees when he looks in it, and the headmaster says he sees himself holding a new pair of thick, woolen socks.</p><p>But per The Leaky Cauldron, during a web chat with <a href="http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/2007/7/30/j-k-rowling-web-chat-transcript/">Bloomsbury in 2007</a>, Rowling told fans that Dumbledore's deepest desire was actually the same as Harry's.</p><p>"He saw his family alive, whole and happy — Ariana, Percival and Kendra all returned to him, and Aberforth reconciled to him," she wrote.</p><p>The highly debated topic shifted again when "The Crimes of Grindelwald" came out because, in the scene where young Dumbledore looks into the mirror, it shows that his greatest desire is to be reunited with Grindelwald.</p><h2><strong>His father was sentenced to life in Azkaban</strong></h2><p>It's revealed in the seventh "Harry Potter" book that Ariana Dumbledore was attacked by a group of Muggles who saw her practicing magic.</p><p>After this event, Albus' father, Percival Dumbledore, took justice into his own hands and sought revenge on his daughter's Muggle attackers — which was highly condemned by the Ministry of Magic.</p><p>Percival worried that revealing the truth of the Muggle attack to the authorities would get Ariana sent away for using underage magic, so instead, he accepted a life sentence in Azkaban prison, where he eventually died.</p><h2><strong>Dumbledore's sister may have been an Obscurial</strong></h2><p><strong></strong></p><div type="image" title="ariana dumbledore" height="1301" width="1735" msid="78478709" hostid="261"></div><p>Because she died so young, there's a lot we don't know about Ariana Dumbledore. From the bits of information that are shared in the series, however, <a href="https://www.seventeen.com/celebrity/movies-tv/a12782020/ariana-dumbledore-obscurus-fan-theory/">fans have speculated that</a> she was an Obscurial — similar to Credence Barebone in the <a href="https://www.insider.com/best-movies-to-watch-if-you-loved-harry-potter">"Fantastic Beasts" series</a>.</p><p>Young wizards become Obscurials when they repress their magic so much that it manifests itself in violent and uncontrollable outbursts.</p><p>After her attack, Ariana did repress her magic out of fear, and in the seventh "Harry Potter" book Aberforth Dumbledore says, "It turned her inward and drove her mad, it exploded out of her when she couldn't control it."</p><p>Whether Ariana was an Obscurial has yet to be confirmed or denied, but more "Fantastic Beast" movies in the works will be looking into Dumbledore's past.</p><h2><strong>Dumbledore's boggart would have shape-shifted into the corpse of his sister</strong></h2><p>One of the greatest burdens in Dumbledore's life was the death of his sister, Ariana. She was a bystander during the duel between her brothers and Grindelwald, and she was accidentally hit with a curse in the cross fire.</p><p>In the same fan <a href="http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/2007/7/30/j-k-rowling-web-chat-transcript/">web chat with Bloomsbury</a>, Rowling said this moment had such an impact on Dumbledore that if he were to encounter a boggart, a creature that takes the shape of a wizard's worst fears, he would see the corpse of his sister.</p><h2><strong>He knew multiple languages</strong></h2><div type="image" title="Dumbledore office" height="794" width="1058" msid="78478712" hostid="261"></div><p>We all know Dumbledore was a highly intelligent wizard and gifted in many areas of magic, but what you may not know is that he was multilingual.</p><p>We learn throughout the books that he was able to speak Mermish with the merpeople who live in the lake on the Hogwarts grounds.</p><p>And, <a href="http://www.the-leaky-cauldron.org/2007/7/30/j-k-rowling-web-chat-transcript/">according to Rowling</a>, Dumbledore could also understand <a href="https://www.wizardingworld.com/features/everything-you-didnt-know-about-parseltongue">Parseltongue</a> and the goblin language Gobbledegook (though it's unclear whether he could actually speak those languages).</p><h2><strong>Many of Dumbledore's names hold significant or special meanings</strong></h2><p><strong></strong></p><div type="image" title="Dumbledore great hall" height="761" width="1015" msid="78478715" hostid="261"></div><p>Albus Wulfric Percival Brian Dumbledore is quite a mouthful, but <a href="https://www.insider.com/harry-potter-character-name-meaning-2017-4">like so many names</a> in the Wizarding World, each one holds a special meaning.</p><p>Albus <a href="https://www.online-latin-dictionary.com/latin-english-dictionary.php?parola=albus">means "white" in Latin</a>. Percival was a <a href="https://kingarthursknights.com/knights-of-the-round-table/sir-percival/">heroic knight</a> of the round table, and also the name of Albus' father. Wulfric is an Anglo-Saxon word meaning "wolf" or "powerful," but it could also refer to <a href="https://catholicsaints.info/saint-wulfric-of-haselbury/">St. Wulfric of Haselbury</a>, a miracle worker of the 12th century. Brian is an <a href="https://affiliate.insider.com?postID=5f74a3d0e155cf23c266ddca&amp;site=in&amp;u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ancestry.com%2Fname-origin%3Fsurname%3Dbrian">old Celtic name</a> meaning "high" or "noble."</p><p>And finally, Dumbledore is an old English <a href="https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/dumbledore">word for "bumblebee."</a></p><h2><strong>He wasn't originally from Godric's Hollow</strong></h2><p>In "Deathly Hallows," Harry is shocked to find out that Dumbledore was from Godric's Hollow, the same town he lived in with his parents before their murder. But Dumbledore didn't always call that town home.</p><p>His family resided in the Wizarding village of Mould-on-the-Wold during his early years. However, after the Muggle attack on Ariana and his father's imprisonment, his mother, Kendra, moved the family to Godric's Hollow.</p><h2><strong>Dumbledore's Patronus takes the shape of a phoenix</strong></h2><p><strong></strong></p><div type="image" title="fawkes harry potter" height="839" width="1119" msid="78478717" hostid="261"></div><p><a href="https://www.insider.com/big-differences-between-harry-potter-books-and-movies">In the films</a>, we never actually see Dumbledore casting a Patronus — a spell most often used to shield a wizard or witch from a Dementor attack — but we do know what it takes the shape of.</p><p>In the "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" book, Dumbledore casts a Patronus to send a message to Hagrid after he finds Viktor Krum has been stunned, and Harry says it looks like a "ghostly bird."</p><p><a href="https://www.wizardingworld.com/features/what-is-a-patronus">Pottermore, now Wizarding World, confirmed</a> that his Patronus took the shape of a phoenix — which is fitting since he's rather fond of Fawkes, the phoenix he keeps in his office at Hogwarts.</p><h2><strong>Some of his accomplishments may have been over-glorified</strong></h2><p>After Dumbledore's death, the "Harry Potter" journalist Rita Skeeter published "The Life and Lies of Albus Dumbledore," in which she revealed many secrets about the great wizard.</p><p>The book's accuracy may be up for debate given Skeeter's history of spreading slanderous gossip, but it does appear that at least some of her criticisms could be true.</p><p>For example, in one part of the book, Skeeter accuses Dumbledore of lying about having single-handedly discovered the 12 uses for dragon's blood. To understand the current tug-of-war between Sony and Disney, you need to understand how the arrangement arose in the first place.</span></span></p><p>Sony has owned the film rights to Spider-Man and 900 related Marvel Comics characters since 1998, and can keep them if it releases a new "Spider-Man" movie every five years and nine months.</p><p>Sony kicked things off with a bang with Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man" in 2002, and then its sequels "Spider-Man 2" in 2004 and "Spider-Man 3" in 2007. But "Spider-Man 3" left a bad taste in people's mouths. As reporter Ben Fritz wrote in his book "The Big Picture: The Fight For the Future of Movies," it cost nearly $260 million to make, and profits dipped 35% from "Spider-Man 2" and 64% from "Spider-Man."</p><p>Five years later, Sony rebooted the superhero in 2012 with "The Amazing Spider-Man." Andrew Garfield stepped into the role, replacing Tobey Maguire, and "500 Days of Summer" director Marc Webb took over from Raimi. "They were projecting for ['The Amazing Spider-Man 2] to at least make more money than the first one."</span></p><p><span>That didn't happen, and then the 2014 Sony hack revealed internal communications <a href="https://money.cnn.com/2014/12/10/media/spiderman-marvel-sony-hack/index.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">about "reinvigorating" the "Spider-Man" franchise</a> and potentially having Marvel Studios produce. Sony could no longer ignore pressure to strike a deal with Marvel, from both the public and Marvel itself.</span></p><p><span>Fritz wrote in "The Big Picture" that Feige and other Marvel executives disliked what Sony was doing with Spider-Man and disapproved of rebooting the series. Marvel would be able to use Spider-Man in its cinematic universe, while Sony retained distribution rights and creative control. Pascal, who had shepherded the "Spider-Man" movies since the first in 2002, produced the MCU's "Spider-Man: Homecoming" and "Spider-Man: Far From Home" with Feige. Sony distributed them. </span></p><p><span>That brings us to today. </span></p><p><span>With Sony's Universe of Marvel Characters (<a href="https://variety.com/2019/film/news/spider-man-mcu-sony-disney-agreement-1203308069/">as it's called internally</a>) back on track after the success of last year's "Venom" (it made over $800 million worldwide), and "Spider-Man: Far From Home" making over $1 billion this summer, both sides had something to lose. </span></p><p><span>Spider-Man is Sony's biggest property, so the studio has an extra incentive to maintain its control. Five "Spider-Man" movies make up the studio's top six highest-grossing domestic releases of all time. </span><span></span></p><p><span><div class="KonaFilter image-container display-table"><div><div class="image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/5bb4cb0f21e9cb2cf857ddf6-1300/feature-tom-hardy-kebingungan-di-cuplikan-terbaru-film-venom-1300x500.jpg" border="0" alt="Venom Tom hardy" data-mce-source="Sony" /></div></div></div></span></p><p><span>And after the success of "Venom" last year, experts told Business Insider that <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/venom-success-explained-sonys-spider-man-universe-here-to-stay-2018-11">it was just the rebound that Sony needed</a>.</span></p><p><span>"This is just the beginning of Sony's reemergence as a studio of box-office distinction," Exhibitor Relations senior box-office analyst Jeff Bock said in November. "They're not giving it up without a fight."</span></p><p><span>That observation is coming true. </span><span>Sony proved with "Venom" that it could make a live-action Spider-Man movie without Spider-Man. Sony Pictures Television chairman Mike Hopkins told Variety in March that <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/sony-marvel-spider-man-movies-details-venom-sequel-morbius-2019-3">Sony has "the next seven or eight years laid out"</a> for the "SUMC," including a "Venom" sequel and "Morbius," starring Jared Leto as the vampiric Spider-Man villain.</span></p><p><span>Spider-Man's renewed success was </span><span>a victory for Disney, too, though. "Spider-Man: Homecoming" and "Spider-Man: Far From Home" made nearly $2 billion combined (and counting) thanks to the Marvel Studios brand, and Disney clearly wanted to see a deal that better reflected its contributions to the character's revival.</span></p><h2><span>Can Sony make a Spider-Man movie without Marvel?</span></h2><p><span>Sony is hoping that "Homecoming" and "Far From Home" director Jon Watts and star Tom Holland return for two more Spider-Man movies, according to Deadline. Unless something changes, Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige would not be involved, meaning no MCU characters would appear or be referenced. </span><span>That doesn't mean the new movies will flop, though.</span></p><p><span>"If the writing and execution is there, a solid Spider-Man movie - even outside of the MCU - is possible,"  <span name="Dergarabedian, Paul" data-hovercard-id="pdergarabedian@comscore.com" data-hovercard-owner-id="75">Dergarabedian said. </span></span></p><p><span><span name="Dergarabedian, Paul" data-hovercard-id="pdergarabedian@comscore.com" data-hovercard-owner-id="75">Sony made the animated "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" last year, which was a massive critical hit and won the Oscar for best animated feature. It has also made well-received, and successful, live-action "Spider-Man" movies in the past.</span></span></p><p><span>But it's hard to ignore Spider-Man's redemption in Marvel Studios and Feige's hands. "Homecoming" and "Far From Home" showed Marvel Studios' power in attracting audiences. And Feige's involvement expanded beyond the MCU, as he was involved in "Venom's" production but did not have a producer credit, according to a source familiar with the situation (<a href="https://deadline.com/2019/08/kevin-feige-spider-man-franchise-exit-disney-sony-dispute-avengers-endgame-captain-america-winter-soldier-tom-rothman-bob-iger-1202672545/">Deadline</a> also reported this). </span></p><p>While Feige and Marvel seem to be out of Spider-Man's life right now, Sony was hopeful that a deal could still be made in the future in its statement.</p><p><span>"When you look at the incredible success that came out of the Sony/Disney collaboration on 'Homecoming' and 'Far From Home,' it seems almost unfathomable that some sort of deal cannot be ironed out," <span name="Dergarabedian, Paul" data-hovercard-id="pdergarabedian@comscore.com" data-hovercard-owner-id="75">Dergarabedian said.</span></span></p>

Spider-Man's movie adventures have been a headache for Sony for over a decade, but the character is too valuable to compromise on

A sense of heaviness, gloom and complete disappointment settles in during the second half, as the mundane set-up results in no dramatic or sensory dividends whatsoever. Even if lip-service is paid to some great threat to life on Earth as we know it, the filmmakers bring nothing new to the formula, resulting in a film that's all wind-up and no delivery. In March of that year, references&#xa0;to Kojima's production company were removed from promotional materials for "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain," and someone within the company claimed Kojima <a href="http://www.gamespot.com/articles/kojima-expected-to-leave-konami-after-mgs5-inside-/1100-6426024/">would be leaving Konami</a> after the game was released.&#xa0;<p>In 2014, Konami released a short demo for&#xa0;horror game called "PT," which was eventually revealed to be a reboot of the iconic "Silent Hill" series, a project&#xa0;Kojima was working on with filmmaker Guillermo del Toro and "Walking Dead" actor Norman Reedus. The demo was met with near-universal acclaim, but&#xa0;just a few weeks after the aforementioned report of Kojima's departure from Konami surfaced, "Silent Hills" was officially cancelled.</p><p>Additionally, <a href="http://www.polygon.com/2015/12/3/9847206/konami-prevented-kojima-attending-game-awards-2015">it was reported</a> that Konami barred Kojima from attending the 2015 Game Awards, where "Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain" garnered five nominations and two awards, including Best Action/Adventure Game.</p><p>Really, Kojima's departure from Konami is a symptom of Konami's pivot away from big-budget console games in general. It read: "Maybe the rightwing will hate it, but everyone else will go awww:  the adorable new #Cheerios ad with biracial family" and then included a link.</p>

<p>The New York-based ad tech company <strong>Magnetic </strong>is expanding to the European market with a London office opening in coming weeks. Luke Hayter will serve as Country Manager for the United Kingdom.</p>
<p>David Bryant is no longer chief creative officer at <strong>Organic</strong>, owned by Omnicom. MSNBC Fires Its Social Media Manager For Tweet About The Cheerios Super Bowl Ad [THE BRIEF]

<p><span style="font-size: 15px; line-height: 1.5em;"><span class="KonaFilter image-container display-table float_right"><span><span data-post-image="" class="image on-image"><img src="https://static-ssl.businessinsider.com/image/548ba99eeab8ea455c1c9cee-1200-924/apple-dark-keyboard-2.jpg" border="0" alt="Apple Dark Keyboard"><span class="source"><span>Reuters</span></span></img></span><p></p></span></span>When America dropped its two atom bombs, Little Boy and Fat Man, over Japan in August 1945, it launched the world into a devastating new era of warfare. Nearly 70 years later, humanity is still trying to contain the fallout. But in its zeal to check nuclear proliferation, America--along with Israel--opened up yet another theatre of war: cyberspace.</span></p>
<p>In 2007 a computer worm called Stuxnet was detected for the first time by virus-scanning software, although signs of it may have existed unnoticed before that. At least three more versions followed, seeking to wreak havoc upon Iran's uranium-enrichment facility at Natanz. Stuxnet made itself busy. It turned valves on and off and meddled with the centrifuges, wasting uranium and damaging equipment. It succeeded in slowing Iran's uranium enrichment, and by extension its purported nuclear-weapons programmes, making Stuxnet the first documented case of cyber-warfare intended to cause physical damage.</p>
<p>Where Stuxnet fell short was in remaining hidden, thanks to a series of "flubs that should never have occurred", writes Kim Zetter in "Countdown to Zero Day", an authoritative account of Stuxnet's spread and discovery. In June 2010 a tiny antivirus firm in Belarus stumbled upon Stuxnet while investigating a malfunctioning machine in Iran. The worm contained a "zero-day exploit"--a previously undiscovered software bug--that brought it to attention. An unprecedented five "zero-day exploits" were eventually found in the code. Researchers also discovered that Stuxnet had used a stolen digital certificate, the foundation of the internet's web of trust, bringing the worm further renown.</p>
<p>Such attention-grabbing tactics were the first mistake. The second was failing to anticipate the willingness of security experts to make up for the shortcomings of Iranian investigators. Researchers at Symantec, and Kaspersky, an American and a Russian computer-security company, tore apart Stuxnet and its siblings for more than two years in a bid to reveal the full range of their abilities.</p>
<p>Had Ms Zetter, a reporter at Wired, stopped at simply recounting this saga, "Countdown to Zero Day" would be an interesting record of an intriguing worm of little interest beyond security specialists. But the book deserves a wider audience for its sobering message about the vulnerability of the systems--train lines, water-treatment plants, electricity grids--that make modern life possible. These industrial control systems are increasingly hooked up to the internet, allowing remote access. Passwords are seldom changed from the systems' defaults. Security updates are rare. Firewalls and network logs are inconsistent. Warnings are ignored. Little surprise, then, that researchers have been able to simulate shutting down energy grids, infiltrating water plants and destroying generators. A 14-year-old in Poland derailed four trams in 2008. Another teenager took down communications at a Massachusetts airport. Utilities today encourage the use of internet-connected "smart meters" in homes. The attackers of tomorrow could very well use them to black out entire cities.</p>
<p>Despite the opportunity, the world has yet to see a sequel to Stuxnet. But "given the varied and extensive possibilities for conducting such attacks," Ms Zetter writes, "...it is only a matter of time until the lure of the digital assault becomes too irresistible for someone to pass up." Containing this new proliferation will be even harder. It takes money, raw materials and large facilities to develop nuclear weapons. A cyberwarrior needs only a computer and an internet connection to wreak havoc.</p>

<p>During the Superman 75th Anniversary panel at Comic-Con <a href="http://comicbook.com/blog/2013/07/22/batman-superman-movie-title-revealed-to-be-batman-vs-superman/" target="_blank">Comicbook.com</a> reports "Man of Steel"<span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> screenwriter David S. Goyer revealed the two names.</span></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;"><span>"So over in Hall H at the Warner Bros., I guess most people know now, at the end of the Warner Bros. panel Zack came out and he brought Harry Lennix, who plays General Swanwick in Man of Steel and we –- actually, Harry read a bit from [</span><em>The Dark Knight Returns</em><span>] and so the next film we’re making, we’re already in pre-production, comes out in summer of 2015. We’re actually not sure whether the title is </span><em>Superman vs. Batman </em><span>or </span><em>Batman vs. Superman</em><span> but yes, it’s –- that rematch, that combination, the two guys onscreen and that’s happening."</span></p>
<p>A lot of people missed out on the news because the "X-Men: Days of Future Past" panel was taking place <span>simultaneously.</span></p>

<p>It looks like Warner Bros. may be leaning toward the latter. The studio hasn't <a href="http://insidemovies.ew.com/2013/07/23/batman-superman-sequel-dc-title/" target="_blank">made any comment</a>.</p>
<p>The title's pretty uninspiring. </p>
<p>Part of the creative process behind first Christopher Nolan's "Dark Knight" trilogy and then Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel" was that they didn't use the generic names for the superheroes like "Iron Man" and "Hulk." </p>
<p>That's what set the DC universe apart at the box office from Marvel.</p>
<p>When Warner Bros. first considered a Batman / Superman movie — teased in 2007 — it was also aimed to be called "<a href="http://movieline.com/2012/02/28/exclusive-book-excerpt-how-batman-vs-supermans-development-hell-gave-way-to-batman-begins/" target="_blank">Batman vs. Superman</a>." </p>
<p>According to David Hughes book "<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Tales-From-Development-Hell-Greatest/dp/0857687239" target="_blank">Tales from Development Hell</a>," the failed "Batman Vs. Superman" project paved the way for the Nolan's trilogy.</p>
<p>Warner Bros. has always had a difficult time putting the right label on any project between its two biggest superheroes. </p>

Sometimes, the movie is referred to as "World's Finest" — a comic series featuring the two heroes. <span style="line-height: 1.5em;">In 2002, comic series </span><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Superman-Batman-VOL-01-Enemies/dp/1401202209" target="_blank">Superman/Batman</a><span style="line-height: 1.5em;"> was released. </span><span style="line-height: 1.5em;">The more recent 2009 animated picture was called "<a href="http://www.amazon.com/Superman-Batman-Enemies-Two-Disc-Special/dp/B0027FG2CG" target="_blank">Superman / Batman: Public Enemies</a>."</span></p>
<p>Of course, we understand why Warner Bros. would lean toward such a title. </p>
<p><span>Pitting superheroes against each other sounds like box-office gold to a general audience.</span></p>
<p><span>You can't use the "Dark Knight" title since that's reserved to Nolan's trilogy. </span></p>
<p><span>And Warner Bros. can't exactly call the film "Caped Crusader Meets Son of Krypton."</span></p>
<p><span>The easiest way for people to identify with the film is to have the names of the two superheroes in the title. How do you do that without getting clunky?</span></p>
<p><span>Perhaps something like: "Batman &amp; Superman: Gotham City Crisis" (or Metropolis) or "Batman &amp; Superman: Blackest Night." Even "Batman &amp; Superman: No Man's Land" makes sense.</span></p>
<p>These titles of course are presuming there's a <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lex_Luthor" target="_blank">Lex Luthor connection</a> in the "Man of Steel" sequel — which was <a href="http://www.businessinsider.com/what-superman-reboot-man-of-steel-does-right-2013-6?#hints-at-whats-in-store-for-the-next-films-12" target="_blank">hinted in the film</a>. </p>
