On Tuesday, July 16, 2019, the Rajya Sabha passed the AERA (Airports Economic Regulatory Authority of India) Bill with an aim to bid out any new airport on the basis of a pre-approved tariff structure. While replying during the discussion on the said bill, Hardeep Singh Puri, the Civil Aviation Minister said, "As many as 16 airports will be in the purview of AERA. All other airports continue to be looked after by the Civil Aviation Ministry." The implications of the AERA bill At present, the major airports that have an annual capacity to handle about one and a half million passengers remain under the purview of the AERA (Airports Economic Regulatory Authority of India). If the bill is passed, the definition of what makes a major airport will change. Henceforth, a major airport will be any aerodrome which already has or even designated to handle an annual passenger capacity of about three and a half million. The background On June 24, the cabinet had given its approval for the AERA bill. The AERA is a regulator with which the power to fix the tariffs that the airports charge. During the last time, the AERA bill was approved by the cabinet in December 2017 when the Narendra Modi Government was ruling during its first tenure. Nevertheless, the bill could not be passed during the monsoon session during the last year. With the formation of the new Lok Sabha now, the older AERA bill stands lapsed and hence the cabinet had to approve it once again. What the different provisions of the AERA bill imply? The government is looking forward to significantly increase the traffic threshold for the major airports. For instance, the annual traffic threshold of major airports will rise from 15 lakhs to more than 35 lakhs. This will see many airports in the country come out of the ambit of AERA. Hence those that will cease to be identified as major airports will come under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Government of India. So, henceforth, for all these airports, the tariff charges will be decided by the Ministry of Civil Aviation. The amendment also vests the Aviation Ministry with the powers to bid out airports projects on the basis of a pre-approved tariff. The AERA bill seeks to reduce the burden hanging on AERA as there has been a phenomenal increase in the passenger traffic which has increased the workload on AERA. With its limited resources, the AERA is finding it difficult to monitor the quality of services delivered at the major airports and also determine the various tariffs. The need for the amendment Notably, when the AERA bill was passed in 2008, the country had 11 airports with annual passenger traffic exceeding 15 lakhs, but the increase in the volume of air travels saw the number of airports almost triple eventually. Criticisms Some Rajya Sabha members argued against the bill saying that the government should have taken steps to strengthen the hands of AERA to be able to manage the additional workload instead of removing the airports from its control.

"This will be so convenient. With the facility right here, we'll be able pop in and check on him, which will give us peace of mind," Trudi Shertzer, an operations duty manager at the airport, told NBC News. Shertzer's husband also works in the airport as a wildlife manager, according to the outlet. The child care center, which is due to open in August, has 61 spaces available, NBC reported. It's available to the 6,000 employees at the airport, though the 475 airport authority employees will get first dibs, the outlet reported. Childcare is becoming an increasingly important benefit for airports to offer employees, who often work extended hours. The industry has tried to spruce up benefits as travel demand remains high but airlines continue to <a href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/the-future-of-flying-more-delays-more-cancellations-more-chaos/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">struggle with a labor shortage</a>."If you want people to work crazy shifts, in the middle of the night, in the middle of the day, you need to be able to accommodate their family life too," Thomas Romig, vice president at airport trade group Airports Council International, previously told <a href="https://www.reuters.com/business/aerospace-defense/aviation-industry-turns-childcare-free-iphones-lure-workers-2023-02-27/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Reuters</a> on the topic. Childcare centers have popped up in California and Arizona airports, according to NBC. Denver International Airport and Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport are considering following suit, the outlet reported.

Amidst tumultuous uproar as well as strong criticisms, the BJP government headed by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi took some bold steps with regard to the status of governance in the valley of Jammu and Kashmir. The government has now decided to roll back the Article 370 and Article 35(A). Repealing these two articles will scrap the special status and exclusive powers enjoyed by the State of Kashmir. This will mean that Kashmir will come in par with all the other states and will be governed by the same laws that govern the rest of India. The implications of removing 35(A) could mean some significant changes effected to the face of Jammu and Kashmir. Overview of Article 35(A) As per the provisions contained in Article 35(A), the state government heading Jammu and Kashmir can define who the permanent residents of the state are. This article came into force earlier following the Constitution (Application to J&amp;K) order, 1954, which was passed by Rajendra Prasad, the then president on the advice of the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. Definition of permanent resident of Kashmir At the time of adopting the article 35(A) in 1956, the state’s constitution defined the term ‘permanent resident’ as someone who was the subject of the state as on May 14, 1954, or the one who had been the resident of the state for more than 10 years and has acquired an immovable property through legal means. What the article 35(A) implied The clauses contained in the Article 35(A) would bar anyone from outside Jammu and Kashmir (who is not a permanent resident) from getting a state job or owning a property in the state. This article is also known as permanent residents’ law. Yet another important provision of article 35(A) deprives the state’s female residents’ right to property if they get married to an outsider. This provision will eventually extend to the children born to such a female. What has changed now in Kashmir? After the repealing of Article 35(A), Kashmir will no longer enjoy any special status or powers. In response to the proposal by Amit Shah, President Ram Nath Kovind issued the Constitution (Application to Jammu and Kashmir) Order, 2019, stating that the provisions of the Indian Constitution will henceforth be applicable to J&amp;K. The Constitution (Application to Jammu and Kashmir) Order, 2019 takes effect "at once", and shall "supersede the Constitution (Application to Jammu and Kashmir) Order, 1954". The promulgation issued by the President observes, "All the provisions of the Constitution shall apply in relation to the state of Jammu and Kashmir." The order also added that in the proviso to clause (3) of Article 370, the term "Constituent Assembly of the State referred to in clause (2)" will henceforth read as "Legislative Assembly of the State". Kashmir comes on par with any other state in India. The present legislative moves by the central government has scrapped the special status and powers to the state of Kashmir. Henceforth, all the laws that govern the other states of India will come to govern the state of Kashmir also.

These days, flying commercially can sometimes be described as nothing more than a series of inconvenient events. According to a new study conducted by <a href="http://www.businessweek.com/interactive/2014-best-worst-airports/#overall" target="_blank">Bloomberg Businessweek</a>, some airports are far more frustrating than others. 
Based on the Bloomberg study, it's clear that airports in America's major cities such as New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago have a lot of work to do to improve their user experience. Flyers complained about the difficult commutes to the airport, mismanaged security lines, and a lack of amenities in the terminal.
Using a combination of data from a 39-question survey of 3000 frequent flyers, on-time arrival and departure data, along with a calculation of how easy or difficult it is to reach the facility, Bloomberg created what it calls "<a href="http://www.businessweek.com/interactive/2014-best-worst-airports/#departures" target="_blank">The Airport Frustration Index</a>." Measured out of a maximum of 100, airports with with highest frustration index are the most...well, frustrating, while those with the lowest are the least. 
Of the 36 major North American airports included in Bloomberg's report, here are the 15 most frustrating for travelers. As much as folks would be wise to avoid these airports, their presence on this list - in many respects - is due to their role as major regional or international hubs. Which makes them all but impossible to avoid for most travelers. 
With that in mind, check out the list so you may have a better idea for what to expect when you arrive.

But now, due to this new feature, the process may be automatic for certain status updates users choose, when the option is enabled. In the Status Privacy setting on WhatsApp, users will find a new option "share my status updates across my accounts", where they can add their Facebook account, according to the report. Moreover, the report mentioned that this option will be optional and disabled by default. Users will be able to enable this option within the Status Privacy settings if they want certain status updates to be shared to Facebook stories without leaving WhatsApp. Furthermore, the report stated this feature will allow users to save time and effort when they manually share their status updates with Facebook Stories without leaving WhatsApp. Meanwhile, WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature called "audio chats", which will be available within conversations in a future update of the application on <keyword id="6355645" type="General" weightage="20" keywordseo="android" source="Orion">Android</keyword>. A new waveforms icon will be added to the chat header, allowing users to initiate audio chats, plus users will see a red button for ending ongoing calls. The 2018 edition of the study found that overall passenger satisfaction is the highest ever recorded in its 13-year history. Overall traveler satisfaction increased 12 points on a 1,000-point scale to 761. According to the study, travelers surveyed by the consumer data and analytics firm reported improvements in several major areas including check-in; dining and retail; as well as terminal facilities. John Wayne Airport in Orange County, California earned the highest score in the study with 815 points.However, not all of America's facilities fared as well. Airports serving major metropolitan areas such as New York, Boston, Chicago, and Los Angeles are all mired once again at the bottom of the rankings. Unfortunately, things may get worse before it gets better for many of these cities. "Several multi-billion-dollar airport construction projects-such as those in Boston, Los Angeles, and Chicago-are reaching phases in which passenger disruption and increased traffic will be incredibly hard to avoid," J.D. Power study measures overall traveler satisfaction with mega, large, and medium-sized airports in the US and Canada.The study takes into consideration six factors - in order of importance - 1) terminal facilities, 2) airport accessibility, 3) security check, 4) baggage claim, 5) check-in/baggage check, and 6) food, beverage, and retail. The rankings are based on data gathered between September 2018 and September 2018 from 40,183 respondents who traveled through at least one North American airport during the three months prior to being surveyed. This became a huge problem when the airport closed on Thursday morning and pushed back its reopening time from Thursday afternoon to Friday morning.Before it delayed its reopening, dozens of flights - many of them international - were already flying to the airport, assuming it would be open by Thursday afternoon. Once they learned they wouldn't be able to land at JFK until Friday, these flights were either rerouted to other airports or turned back to their departure points.Their problems compounded when they tried to land at JFK on Friday. Since the airport had to make room for an extra day's worth of planes while operating its normal schedule, many Thursday flights had trouble finding open gates. But the problem was worsened because JFK's terminals rarely cooperate, so each Thursday flight had to wait until a gate at its originally assigned terminal was open. This meant that if a flight had planned to land at Terminal 1 on Thursday, it had to wait until it could find a gate at Terminal 1, even if gates at other terminals were open. The chaos at New York's JFK airport was made worse by a major operational flaw

Although it is unclear when American's planes will return to service."We have resolved connectivity issues that led to a ground stop today at our Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth and Miami hubs," American Airlines told Business Insider in an emailed statement.
