The RBI restrictions on Yes Bank have caused panicamong the devotees, said senior 'Daitapati' (servitor) BinayakDasmohaopatra. "We demand a thorough probe and action against thepersons responsible for depositing such a huge amount in aprivate bank for a little more interest," he said. "It is illegal as well as unethical to deposit thelord's funds in a private bank. Shree Jagannath TempleAdministration (SJTA) and the Temple's Managing Committeeshould be held responsible for the uncertainty," saidJagannath Sena convenor Priyadarshi Patnaik. He said a complaint was filed at a police station inPuri demanding probe over depositing the money in a privatebank, but no action was taken. Allaying concerns, Law Minister Pratap Jena said themoney is with the bank as fixed deposits and not in a savingsaccount. "The government has already decided to transfer thefunds from Yes Bank to a nationalised bank after tenures ofthe fixed deposits end this month," he said. Asked whether the government has taken up the matterwith the RBI, the minister said, "I have not talked to thebank authorities so far. I am sure, we will be able totransfer the money from Yes Bank without any problem." "The SJTA should immediately take up the matter withthe RBI and ensure that the money is safe," Mohanty said. While Rs 545 crore was in the bank as fixeddeposits, the remaining Rs 47 crore was in a flexi account. The money kept in the flexi account has been withdrawnand the remaining Rs 545 crore will be transferred to anationalised bank in two phases after their maturities onMarch 16 and March 29, the minister had said. Congress MLA Suresh Routray sought a clarificationfrom the state government as to why it allowed the SJTA todeposit the lord's money in a private bank. "We will not tolerate improper utilisation of LordJagannath's money. The Congress will launch a statewideagitation demanding early recovery of the funds," he said. New Delhi, Mar 6 () Paytm Payments Bank Ltd (PPBL) on Friday restricted transaction settlements, including those done through UPI platform, into cash-strapped Yes Bank's accounts. The decision by PPBL follows the Reserve Bank of India's move to cap withdrawals from Yes Bank accounts at Rs 50,000 per depositor for a month and imposed strict limits on operations at the country's fourth-largest private lender that faced "regular outflow of liquidity" after an effort to raise new capital failed. "Paytm Payments Bank Ltd (PPBL) today (Friday) announced that they are restricting transaction settlements, including UPI, into Yes Bank accounts to safeguard their users' money," PPBL said in a statement. Yes Bank has been seeking funding since last year to bolster its financial ratios and quell questions about its stability due to its exposure to the non-banking financial company sector entangled in a prolonged crunch in the local credit market. "While third-party apps that rely on Yes Bank have also been affected, the UPI ecosystem has been designed in a way where customers can continue using other UPI apps to transact on UPI. Paytm customers continue to use Paytm UPI and wallet service without any interruption as before," the statement said. The Indian banking system is currently under stress due to rising non-performing assets (NPAs) and other issues, it added. The case of restrictions on Yes Bank is second within a year after the Punjab and Maharashtra Co-operative Bank crisis in September 2019. PPBL said that in a scenario where banks have been facing crisis in India, payment banks are safe and offer more safety and security to the deposited money. Earlier in the day, PPBL took a dig on its rival PhonePe in the wake of obstruction it faced due to using cash-strapped Yes Bank's platform for transactions. It said payments banks are not allowed to lend and, therefore, do not have the problem of NPAs. PPBL also added that such banks have to necessarily invest 75 per cent of customers' deposit money into government securities, which is the safest form of investment. "Safety and security of our users' money are of utmost importance to us. We have stopped all transactions in Yes Bank accounts so that the money doesn't get blocked. We are also requesting users to change their primary bank account to some other bank. However, these restrictions are temporary in nature till the time we get more clarity on the situation," Satish Gupta, managing director and chief executive officer of PPBL, said. PRS HRS

While the revenue fell 20%, costs rose during the quarter squeezing the operating profit by 40%. This is largely due to a sharp spike in bad loans. Gross NPA, a measure of bad loans, jumped to 7.39%— more than doubled compared to the level at the which the number was in the first three months of 2019. Gross NPA rose to ₹17,100 crore— nearly two and a half times more compared to three months ago. The amount of loans that turned sour during the quarter was over ₹5,945 crore. Investors who were anxious about the bank’s survival heaved a sigh of relief and bet big money, taking the stock of Yes Bank higher by as much as 30% in afternoon trade on October 31. Earlier in August, Yes Bank had raised ₹1,930.46 crore through qualified institutional placement to fund its business expansion. The share price has more than doubled from its <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/markets/stocks/news/whats-next-for-yes-bank-after-shares-double-from-decade-low/articleshow/71823268.cms">ten year low </a>it hit this month in anticipation of such fundraising. However, investors must remember the same SPGP Holdings bid for Reid &amp; Taylor earlier this year. It <a href="https://www.thehindubusinessline.com/companies/nclt-mumbai-puts-rtils-liquidation-plans-on-hold/article25892000.ece">reportedly</a> had a corpus of $250 million but the bid was eventually rejected by the court because SPGP Holdings failed to deposit the earnest money, a paltry sum of ₹ 2 crore. The two-judge bench at India’s bankruptcy court slammed SPGP Holdings as they rejected its bid and handed it over to another Gujarat-based asset reconstruction firm. “You painted a rosy picture and misrepresented facts before us. This is just not correct. We waited for one week and now you say you cannot pay. This is contempt of court. You may withdraw your application. We are very unhappy with you,” Justice Mohan <a href="https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/markets/stocks/news/reid-taylor-case-court-dismisses-spgps-plea-new-investor-in-the-fray/articleshow/67551449.cms?from=mdr">reportedly</a> told SPGP director Pankaj Agarwal, who was present in court. For now, Yes Bank’s investors are in cloud nine. "The bank also continues to be in advanced discussions with other global and domestic investors," Yes Bank’s statement said, adding that the fundraising plan is subject to regulatory approvals and bank's board and shareholders approvals. Yes Bank’s white knight SPGP Holdings didn’t have ₹2 crore to bid for Reid & Taylor in Jan 2019

<ul><li><keyword id="8883506" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="yes-bank-founder-rana-kapoor">Yes Bank founder Rana Kapoor</keyword> was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) early today, March 8.</li><li>He has been arrested under the provision of the <keyword id="6355007" type="UNKNOWN" weightage="20" keywordseo="Prevention-of-Money-Laundering-Act">Prevention of Money Laundering Act</keyword> (PMLA).</li><li>Authorities claim he was not cooperating with the probe.</li></ul> The Enforcement Directorate arrested Yes Bank founder Rana Kapoor under money laundering charges here in the early hours of Sunday, officials said. The banker was held under the provision of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) around 3 am as he was allegedly not cooperating in the probe, they said. Kapoor's arrest at the ED office in Ballard Estate followed over 20 hours of questioning by the central agency after it raided his residence on Friday night. The arrest comes after charges of alleged financial irregularities and mismanagement in the operations of the private bank surfaced and the RBI and Union government initiated action to control its affairs. Officials said Kapoor, 62, will be produced before a local court during the day to obtain custody. The investigating officer of the case had recorded Kapoor's statement under the PMLA when he was first interrogated on Friday night at his upscale residence in 'Samudra Mahal' complex in Worli area here. He was brought to the ED office on Saturday noon for a fresh round of questioning. On Saturday, the agency widened its probe in the case as the premises of Kapoor's three daughters in Delhi and Mumbai were searched to gather more information and evidence. According to officials, Kapoor's wife Bindu and daughters -- Rakhee Kapoor Tandon, Roshni Kapoor and Radha Kapoor -- are allegedly linked to some companies to which the suspected "proceeds of crime" have been traced. The case against Kapoor is linked to the scam-hit DHFL as the loans lent by the bank to the company allegedly turned NPAs, they said. A Rs 600 crore worth loan extended by the DHFL to an entity is also at the centre of the ED probe, officials said. The central agency is also probing Kapoor's role in connection with the disbursal of loans to some corporate entities and the subsequent alleged kickbacks reportedly received in his wife's accounts. Other alleged irregularities are also under the agency's scanner including the one related to the alleged PF fraud in the Uttar Pradesh power corporation, they added. The CBI has recently taken over investigation into the Rs 2,267-crore Employees' Provident Fund fraud in Uttar Pradesh, where hard-earned savings of power sector employees were invested in Dewan Housing Finance Corporation (DHFL). The ED action came after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Thursday imposed a moratorium on the capital-starved Yes Bank, capping withdrawals at Rs 50,000 per account, and superseded the board of the private sector lender with immediate effect. Yes Bank will not be able to grant or renew any loan or advance, make any investment, incur any liability or agree to disburse any payment. Yes Bank founder Rana Kapoor arrested by ED on charges of money laundering

IDFC First Bank on Sunday said it will make an equity investment of Rs 250 crore in beleaguered Yes Bank to acquire 25 crore equity shares. "...duly authorized committee of the Board of Directors of IDFC FIRST Bank Ltd had at its meeting held on March 14, 2020 accorded approval for an equity investment of upto Rs 250 crores comprising upto 25 crore equity shares at a price of Rs 10 each and face value of Rs 2 each, under the proposed Scheme of Reconstruction of Yes Bank Ltd under the Banking Regulation Act, 1949, subject to regulatory and government approval(s), if any," the bank said in a BSE filing. Earlier on Saturday, Federal Bank had committed to investing Rs 300 crore in Yes Bank for subscription of its 30 crore shares. The Centre on Saturday notified the YES Bank Limited Reconstruction Scheme, 2020, a day after the Union Cabinet approved a reconstruction plan proposed by the RBI for bailing out fund-starved Yes Bank. The authorised capital of Yes Bank has been increased to Rs 6,200 crore, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Friday. As per the reconstruction scheme, moratorium on the troubled lender will be lifted on March 18. Under the plan, state-run SBI will infuse Rs 7,250 crore in the crisis-ridden bank and take 49 per cent equity. As per the rescue plan, ICICI Bank will invest Rs 1,000 crore, mortgage lender HDFC Rs 1,000 crore, Axis Bank Rs 600 crore, Kotak Mahindra Bank Rs 500 crore, Bandhan Bank and Federal Bank Rs 300 crore each. There will be a three year lock-in period for all the investors. However, the lock-in period for SBI would be only for 26 per cent of shareholding. It would be 75 per cent in case of other investors. SBI Chairman Rajnish Kumar on Saturday said the bank has received the draft scheme of reconstruction for crisis-hit Yes Bank. Bank officials are doing due diligence of the draft scheme, he added. "We have received draft scheme of reconstruction for Yes Bank. Our investment and legal team is doing due diligence," Kumar told reporters here. He also said many potential investors have approached SBI after seeing the draft scheme. Kumar further said the interest of shareholders will not be compromised. On Friday, the RBI announced a draft scheme of reconstruction for cash-starved Yes Bank. In its draft 'Yes Bank Ltd. Reconstruction Scheme, 2020', RBI said the strategic investor bank will have to pick up 49 per cent stake and it cannot reduce holding to below 26 per cent before three years from the date of capital infusion. The draft came a day after the RBI imposed a moratorium on Yes Bank, restricting withdrawals to Rs 50,000 per depositor till April 3. The RBI also superseded the board of the private sector lender, which is now being headed by former deputy managing director and CFO of SBI Prashant Kumar. SBI says its evaluating draft reconstruction scheme for Yes Bank

<ul><li>Yes Bank’s stock slipped by a massive 11.6% in early trade today, after it beat street expectations and posted profits. </li><li>Yes Bank posted as much as ₹114 crore in net profits for the first quarter of 2019-20, as compared to ₹1,265 crore in the same quarter last year. </li><li>The stock had been volatile for the last few days. It slipped 5% yesterday, but went up by 11.4%, the day before. </li></ul> Yes Bank’s stock slipped by a massive 11.6% in early trade today, even as it beat street expectations and posted profits. Though its net profit dropped by 91%, analysts and brokerages have been expecting it to post massive losses, like it did in the last quarter. The stock was trading at ₹87.4, at 9:40 am. The stock had been volatile for the last few days. In anticipation of a quarterly loss, it slipped 5% yesterday, but the day before it rallied 11% on rumours that it struck a deal with private equity investors to sell stake, which the bank denied later. Brokerages however are not rushing into change their stance on the stock. Credit Suisse and J P Morgan maintained their ‘neutral’ rating, while Morgan Stanley maintains an underweight on account on ‘slippages’ during the quarter. Only CLSA was confident of its performance, on expectations that will be able to raise capital. “Management expects a capital raise in the second quarter, and expect 60% of stressed book to slip; retail push is key,” the brokerage said. Yesterday, Yes Bank posted as much as ₹114 crore in net profits for the first quarter of 2019-20, as compared to ₹1,265 crore in the same quarter last year. Last quarter which is the fourth quarter of 2018-19, it posted massive losses to the tune of ₹1,508 crore. The bank’s net interest income grew 2.8% y-o-y to ₹2,281 crore during the quarter. This is in spite of absorbing an impact of ₹223 crores of interest reversals on account of slippages during the quarter, the bank said. Heavy Provisions The quarterly report has a lot of cause for worry. Its provisions which is the amount a bank sets aside in case a loan goes bad, is at a massive ₹1,785 crore, which ballooned from ₹625 crore in the same quarter last year. As per the bank’s earnings report, its non-performing assets or loans that have turned bad, stood at ₹6,883 crore. An NPA account with an exposure of ₹411 crore was sold to an asset restructuring company during the quarter, the bank had said. The bank management is however confident that it will grow from hereon. “This was a ‘Quarter of Consolidation’ in which the bank has demonstrated strong resilience in revenues and asset quality. We believe that earnings trajectory should strengthen significantly from hereon,” the bank said in a press release.
