Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel, deployed at India-China border, performed Yoga at the height of 18,800 feet at snow covered Himalayan peaks on Indian-China border in Ladakh on Sunday on the occasion of 6th <keyword id="6362857" type="DEFINITION" weightage="20" keywordseo="international-yoga-day">International Yoga day</keyword>. The Himveers practiced Yoga on different heights at Himalayas. From 18,800 feet in Sikkim Himalayas to Khardung La in Ladakh at the height of 18,000 feet and Vasundhara near Badrinath in Uttarakhand at the height of 14,000 feet, the ITBP personnel performed Yoga on the occasion. The specialised mountain force, ITBP, is deployed on border guarding duties from Karakoram Pass in Ladakh to Jachep La in Arunachal Pradesh covering 3,488 km of Indo-China Border and manning Border Outposts on altitudes ranging from 9,000 to 18,800 feet in the Western, Middle and Eastern sectors of the India-China border. It was a sign of commitment of the ITBP personnel that they showed on the International Yoga Day in the backdrop of India-China face-off that killed 20 Indian soldiers in Galwan Valley in Ladakh on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) on June 15. The International Day of Yoga has been celebrated annually on June 21 since 2015, following its inception in the United Nations General Assembly in 2014. Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice which originated in India. New Delhi, Jul 12 () Early detection of COVID-19 cases through widespread testing, surveillance and clinical management has resulted in India having one of the lowest fatality rate at 2.66 per cent, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said on Sunday. The minister, who visited the Sardar Patel COVID Care Centre (SPCCC) at Chhattarpur to review its COVID-19 management status, also said that "our success" can be seen in the recovery rate which is almost 63 per cent at present. The 10,200-bed SPCC has been developed at the Radha Soami Satsang Beas as part of coordinated efforts of the Centre and the Delhi government to bolster containment measures, the health ministry said in a statement. Briefing reporters after his visit, Vardhan said India's clinical protocol has focused on early detection through widespread testing, surveillance, prompt triaging and clinical management of cases. "This has resulted in one of the lowest case fatality rate of 2.66 per cent. Our success can be seen in the recovery rate which is almost 63 per cent with more than 5.3 lakh patients recovered," he was quoted as saying in the statement. The minister said that "as we proceed further into Unlock 2.0, it is critical to ensure that all of us rely on the 'social vaccine' – 'Do Gaz ki Doori' and each one of us must follow COVID appropriate behaviour". At the Chhattarpur facility, the health minister visited its kitchen area and inspected the SPCCC's stores, according to the statement. It said the SPCCC follows naturopathy and protocols of ayurveda to boost immunity of in-patients at the centre and "they are given 'ayurvedic kadha' in the morning followed by meals as advised by dieticians and the day ends with milk with turmeric". Vardhan, who was in a PPE suit, "interacted with nearly 12 patients and enquired about their health and wellbeing, in addition to the facilities and health care that they receive at the centre," the statement said. He also enquired about the sanitation and hygiene at the SPCCC and visited nursing stations. The minister lauded the services being provided by doctors, nursing staff and sanitation workers, among others, at the coronavirus care centre. Vardhan also interacted with the 30 people who after recovering from the disease are now offering their services at the centre as volunteers. Calling them "COVID Warriors", he thanked them for their contribution and dedication. The minister also thanked all those who made donations for establishing the SPCCC and its daily operations. Vardhan was informed that out of the 10,200 beds at the SPCCC, 2,000 are operational. There are 88 enclosures each with a capacity of 100 to 116 beds with two enclosures supervised by one nursing station. Ten per cent of the beds have oxygen support. The statement said that as on date, 123 patients are admitted out of which five patients with co-morbidities have been shifted to hospitals for tertiary care. In-house psychological counselling and psychiatry services are being provided by NIMHANS trained counsellors at the SPCCC. Meditation and Yoga sessions for the patients are conducted and telemedicine support is being provided by the Referral Hospital, ITBP, it said. Raipur, Jun 4 () Chhattisgarh Police have launched a special campaign to check mental stress and depression among their personnel by conducting interactive programmes and arranging counselling sessions, music and yoga therapies for them, a government official said. The move comes after the state reported over 50 cases of suicide by police personnel, and a number of incidents of policemen attacking their colleagues in the last two years. During a meeting with senior police officials and psychologists on Tuesday, state Director General of Police (DGP) D M Awasthi chalked out an action plan for the special campaign, titled 'Spandan', and ordered it to be immediately launched in all districts, the official said. A mobile application is also being prepared for monitoring the problems of police personnel and it will be launched within next 15 days, he said. On May 31, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel expressed concern over incidents of suicide and fratricide taking place in police camps due to depression/stress among security personnel, and directed Awasthi to come up with a stress- buster plan soon. As part of the campaign 'Spandan', senior police officers will visit police lines, police stations and armed forces companies to interact with the personnel to know about problems being faced by them, the official said. Even all commandants will have to stay at night in the camp of each company of their respective forces once in a month, he said. The DGP will conduct a special interactive programme twice a month at the police headquarters in Raipur to personally meet officers and employees of the district police force and other armed forces. Arrangements will also be made for counselling by psychologists, music therapy, yoga education, sports and library in camps located in inaccessible areas, including those in the Maoist-hit belt, the official said. Senior officers, including DGP, will visit remote areas and hold discussions with the personnel deployed there. Detailed guidelines have been issued to all district superintendents of police and commandants of battalions about the campaign, the official said. A number of incidents of suicide and fratricide have been reported in police camps in the past couple of years. On May 29 this year, an assistant platoon commander of the Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF) opened fire from his rifle at his colleagues, killing two personnel and injuring another, at their camp in Narayanpur district. In a case of fratricide in December last year, six Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) personnel were killed at the camp of its 45th battalion in Narayanpur. Besides, two CAF jawans were killed in a similar incident at their camp in Bijapur district in June last year, according to police. In February this year, the Chhattisgarh government informed in the Assembly that nearly 50 police personnel, including those from paramilitary forces, committed suicide in the state in last two years. Raipur, Jun 1 () The Chhattisgarh government will take special measures to reduce stress among security personnel, particularly those deployed in Naxal-hit areas, days after a state Armed Force (CAF) assistant platoon commander shot dead two jawans in Narayanpur district. Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Sunday directed Director General of Police (DGP) DM Awasthi to take special measures to reduce stress level among police and paramilitary personnel, particularly those deployed in the naxal-hit areas, an official said on Monday. Baghel told the DGP that on many occasions petty disputes blow into major violent incidents due to stress among security personnel. "Security forces face odd and challenging situations. Multiple reasons like work pressure, prolonged separation from family and lack of entertainment leads to stress and depression among them. "Therefore, a conducive environment need to be created at the workplace to keep them protected from mental tension," the official quoted the CM as saying. The CM stressed regular counselling of security forces through psychologists and organising recreational activities besides Yoga and sports. Baghel also emphasised the need for simplifying the process of sanctioning leaves to on-duty personnel, the official said. "Such an environment should be created in their units so that troopers feel like home away from home and do not feel socially isolated. Medical checkup should also be done from time to time," he said. On May 29, a CAF Assistant Platoon Commander opened fire from his AK-47 rifle, killing two personnel and injuring another, after some unknown dispute among them, at their camp in Narayanpur district, police had said. In another incident of fratricide, six ITBP personnel were killed at the camp of the 45th battalion in Narayanpur on December 4 last year. In another incident, two CAF jawans were killed in their camp in Bijapur district on June 19 last year.
