  • President Donald Trump continued his days-long Twitter tirade against illegal immigration on Monday with tweets calling for Congress to use the "nuclear option" to pass tougher border laws.
  • The "nuclear option" means lowering the threshold for legislation from 60 out of 100 votes in the senate, to just a simple majority at 51, which happens to be the exact number of Republicans in the senate right now.

President Donald Trump continued his days-long Twitter tirade against illegal immigration on Monday with tweets calling for Congress to fundamentally blow up the way they pass legislation by employing the "nuclear option."

The "nuclear option" means lowering the threshold for legislation from 60 out of 100 votes in the senate, to just a simple majority at 51, which happens to be the exact number of Republicans in the senate right now.

Trump addressed a Buzzfeed report that more than 1,000 Central Americans, mostly from Honduras, were attempting to ride a train to enter the US, and bypassing legal authorities that may look to deport them with their sheer size as they flee violence, political instability, or poor economic conditions in their homes.

"Mexico has the absolute power not to let these large 'Caravans' of people enter their country. They must stop them at their Northern Border, which they can do because their border laws work, not allow them to pass through into our country, which has no effective border laws...." Trump tweeted, characteristically bemoaning the US's porous border, which he also criticized on Easter Sunday.

In tweets on Sunday, Trump said Border Patrol agents can't do their jobs properly because of "ridiculous liberal (Democrat) laws" that allow people caught for being in the country illegally to be released while they await a hearing before a federal immigration judge.

"Congress must immediately pass Border Legislation, use Nuclear Option if necessary, to stop the massive inflow of Drugs and People. Border Patrol Agents (and ICE) are GREAT, but the weak Dem laws don't allow them to do their job. Act now Congress, our country is being stolen!" Trump continued.

Finally, Trump slammed the Democrats over their failure to reach a deal with Trump over the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA program, that allows children who entered the country illegally to stay.

"DACA is dead because the Democrats didn't care or act, and now everyone wants to get onto the DACA bandwagon... No longer works. Must build Wall and secure our borders with proper Border legislation. Democrats want No Borders, hence drugs and crime!" Trump tweeted.
