President Donald Trump taunted Democratic Rep. Joaquin Castro of Texas and misspelled his name three times amid the intense scrutiny over the president's visit to the state.

Trump also took a jab at Castro's twin brother, Julián, former Housing and Urban Development secretary and one of the Democratic candidates in the 2020 US presidential election.

"I don't know who Juaquin Castro is other than the lesser brother of a failed presidential candidate (1%) who makes a fool of himself every time he opens his mouth," Trump tweeted on Wednesday evening.

"Juaquin is not the man that his brother is, but his brother, according to most, is not much," Trump added. Keep fighting Juaquin!"

Rep. Joaquin Castro, an outspoken critic of Trump, has been criticized this week for publishing a publicly-available list of the names of Trump donors on Twitter. The Democrat tweeted the list of 44 donors in his congressional district and said it was "sad to see so many San Antonians."

"Their contributions are fueling a campaign of hate that labels Hispanic immigrants as 'invaders,'" Rep. Castro said in his tweet.

Rep. Castro later said it was never his "intent" to fuel the potential violence against Trump's donors.

Trump visited Texas on Wednesday to address the El Paso shooting that killed at least 22 people. Earlier in the day, he visited Dayton, Ohio, the location the second mass shooting to take place last weekend. Following that visit, Trump lashed out at other Democratic lawmakers on Twitter, including Sen. Sherrod Brown of Ohio.
