President Donald Trump on Friday said the highly anticipated summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is back on as originally scheduled.

"We'll be meeting in Singapore on June 12," Trump said. "

It will be a beginning," the president added, seemingly suggesting it will take some time for the US to convince North Korea to agree to denuclearization.

"I think you'll have a very positive result in the end," Trump said, emphasizing that the talks with North Korea will be a "process."

Trump's comments came after a visit from a high-ranking North Korea official who delivered him a letter from Kim.

In late May, Trump canceled the summit with Kim over aggressive comments made by the North Korean government. But the two countries have been racing to save the talks ever since.

This is a developing story.
