Want a unique Indian wedding? Now you can get married at a railway platform

If you're looking for a quirky venue for your wedding and want it to be remembered for a long long time, listen to us. Look beyond those fancy restaurants and grounds. How about a platform wedding?

Yep, you heard us.

Believe it or not, very soon you may be able to exchange vows at railway stations.

As of the moment, the railways are weighing a proposal to rent out less-busy stations in the country for holding wedding functions and other events. What more, if all goes well the Western Railways is planning to open its gates to public to host their reception ceremony at Surat and Navapur stations.

A proposal has been sent to the ministry for approval. The quirky idea is a part of an initiative to boost the economy for the railway sector and came after Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu had ordered railway factions to come up with innovative plans to increase the profits.

According to a senior railways official, Surat is the fourth platform to be picked after Navapur. "Surat station is massive, and there are people there who would actually pay to have their wedding receptions or parties on platforms as well. We will propose platform no. 4 for the project as it has two-three booking offices, which is ideal for these kind of functions," he added.
