Several flights will get their airline code and the flight number changed. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) plans to change the number of flights to remove ambiguity over two similar sounding names.

"No flight will have numbers ending with zero or five. It can be any other number. No flight also can not have same number as its flight number, which means it cannot be 777 or 666 or any other number," said a senior DGCA official, who did not want to be identified.

Over and above, schedule of two flights have similar sounding numbers will have to maintain up to 120 minutes difference in their arrivals or departure at a few airports.

"Flights with similar sounding flight numbers like 103 and 203 or 466 and 456 or 778 and 787 will have 60 minutes difference between themselves. Flights from different airlines with similar numbers will have to maintain 120 minutes difference between themselves," the DGCA official said.
