US-based Qualcomm today announced the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, the company’s latest flagship chipset in India. The chipset comes with support for powerful on-device generative AI features. The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is based on the same architecture as its powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset but offers a different clock speed. The chipset is based on a 4 nm process and supports LPDDR5X memory, UFS 4.0 storage, up to 144Hz Quad HD+ display and Qualcomm Quick Charge 5.

OnePlus is all set to launch a new budget smartphone, the Nord CE 4 Lite in India soon. While the Chinese smartphone maker is yet to confirm the launch of the device, the smartphone has recently been spotted on the website of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and Geekbench. The smartphone is the successor of the OnePlus Nord CE 3 Lite which was launched in India in April 2023. As May is almost halfway done already, the launch of the successor has already been delayed a bit so we expect the company to soon launch the device.

The Indian smartphone market reported good growth during Q1 2024, marking a good start to the year for smartphone makers. There was an 8% increase in smartphone shipments in India in Q1 2024. According to a report by Counterpoint Research, the growth was driven by healthy inventory volumes and the low base in Q1 2023. Another reason for the boost in shipments was the premiumisation trend among customers, with the launch of the Galaxy S24 series and the OnePlus 12.

Carl Pei-led Nothing recently introduced the Phone (2a), the company’s most affordable offering. The company’s sub-brand CMF is now gearing up to launch a budget smartphone, that may be priced at half of Phone (2a)’s price. CMF has already introduced affordable TWS earbuds, but they come with their own design and do not follow Nothing’s transparent design language.

Search giant Google has silently launched the Pixel 8a smartphone in India without any fanfare, introducing the successor of its Pixel 7a smartphone. This comes a week before the Google I/O event, which is scheduled for May 14. The Pixel 8a smartphone retains the same design as its predecessor but comes in two new colour options, Aloe and Bae, in addition to Obsidian and Porcelain. Google has also upgraded the display to finally offer a 120Hz refresh rate, after offering a 90Hz display with its Pixel 7a smartphone.

The year 2024 has begun with some good news for smartphone makers as global smartphone shipments have reported a 6% growth in Q1 2024. The growth is being attributed to strong performance in Europe, the Middle East and Africa and other regions. According to a report by Counterpoint Research, 296.9 million smartphones were shipped in Q1 2024, up from 280.2 million devices shipped in Q1 2023.

The Vivo V30e is aimed at users looking for a good selfie camera and a long battery life. The device’s selfie camera offers 4K recording, which is not common in this segment.

The company had launched the Phone (2a) in India in March 2024. The Nothing Phone (2a) was launched in Black and White colour options, just like the Phone (1) and the Phone (2). For the first time, the company has launched a new Blue Edition for its smartphone.

Chinese smartphone maker Realme on Wednesday launched two new devices in its Narzo series, dubbed the Narzo 70 and the Narzo 70X in India. The devices are placed below the Narzo 70 Pro that was launched in India last month. The Realme Narzo 70 and Narzo 70X are budget offerings from the company, with the Narzo 70X placed as the entry-level offering. The company has claimed that the main highlight of the devices is its display and the rear camera setup.

Vivo has launched its latest mid-range smartphones in the V series, dubbed the Vivo V30 and the V30 Pro in India. The V30 series is the successor of the V29 series and comes with significant upgrades. The Vivo V30 and V30 Pro have become the first mid-range smartphones to feature ZEISS cameras, which the company had so far reserved for premium devices such as the X100.

Google is expected to launch its next mid-range Pixel smartphone, the Pixel 8a at the upcoming annual Google I/O developer conference which is scheduled to be held in May 2024. Ahead of the launch of the device, a leak has revealed that the Pixel 8a will be priced higher than its predecessor, the Google Pixel 7a. According to a report by PassionateGeekz, a Canadian retailer has revealed the prices of the upcoming Pixel 8a ahead of the launch.

Samsung on Monday launched two new devices in its popular Galaxy M series, the Galaxy M15 budget smartphone and the Galaxy M55 mid-range smartphone. The two smartphones are the successors of the Galaxy M14 and the Galaxy M54 respectively. While the Galaxy M15 is aimed at entry-level buyers, the Galaxy M55 5G is a mid-range offering. The company had recently launched the Galaxy A35 and Galaxy A55 smartphones in India.
